Rolex Bracelets Ultimate Guide

The case, dial, and bezel might draw the most attention, but the look of a Rolex watch is not complete without its bracelet or strap. In fact, switching out a strap can completely transform the appearance of a Rolex watch, something that isn't necessarily true for other parts of the watch. While the brand's bracelets contribute to the watch's iconic style, some collectors will learn how to change the Rolex bracelets to leather or rubber straps for a different look. Rolex is renowned for some of the most iconic and recognizable bracelet designs of all time, and their catalog includes several different bracelet styles along with a few strap options. Take a look at our in-depth Rolex bracelet and straps guides for tips on how to wear and adjust your watch to suit your needs.

Rolex takes its straps and bracelets very seriously. It is not an afterthought but rather an integral part of its famous timepieces. For instance, the Rolex Day-Date's famous nickname is the "President" in part because of its bracelet. The other part is because it's the go-to luxury watch of countless political and business leaders.

Speak to any Rolex fan and they’ll tell you how comfortable and well-made most Rolex bracelets and bands are. Additionally, not only does Rolex continuously improve upon the bracelets they already have, but the company also introduces new ones. Rolex unveiled a completely new bracelet, the Oysterflex, a few years ago. Such an important timepiece component deserves some attention, so sit back, strap in, and read our ultimate guide to Rolex bracelets, bands, and straps.

The Rolex Oyster Bracelet

We'll start with the most ubiquitous Rolex band - the Oyster bracelet. It may come as a surprise to learn that the Oyster bracelet has been a staple in the Rolex collection for more than seventy years. Rolex first patented the Oyster bracelet design in 1947 and presented it to the public the following year in 1948. However, it's important to note that the origins of the Oyster bracelet date back to the Bonklip style Rolex bracelets that were outsourced to bracelet manufacturer Gay Frères during the 1930s/1940s.

The links of the Oyster bracelet have always been flat and the links have evolved over the years. There have been riveted links, folded links, and solid links. Over the years, the "rivet" style links would be replaced by a thicker "folded" style, before finally being phased out in favor of solid links, which give the bracelet its modern character. However for many, those hollow links from the early days have a certain charm that pure functionality cannot beat.

Today, the Oyster bracelet is the most widespread band style found in Rolex’s lineup, available in almost all Rolex collections. It is the bracelet of choice of famous Rolex sports watches like the Submariner and the Daytona, as well as, quintessential dress watches like the Datejust and Oyster Perpetual—and plenty in between. Of course, there are also different sizes of the Oyster bracelet depending on the watch. From the smaller Lady-Datejust timepieces to the larger GMT-Master pilot watches to the jumbo Deepsea dive watches, the versatile Oyster bracelet is always a great fit.

In addition to being the most prevalent Rolex band, the Oyster bracelet is also available in every metal Rolex uses. Additionally, there are Oyster bracelets set with diamonds for some ultra-special Rolex jewelry watches. The last number in any Rolex bracelet code denotes the material.

  • 0 = Steel and/or 904L Oystersteel
  • 1 = Everose Gold & Steel
  • 3 = Yellow Gold & Steel
  • 5 = Rose Gold

  • 9 = White Gold

Depending on the model, the Oyster bracelet comes equipped with a range of clasps. Here's a list of the type of Rolex clasp used on current-production Rolex watches with Oyster bracelets. What's the difference between the Oysterclasp and Oysterlock? Aesthetically, the former has the Rolex coronet embossed into the clasp whereas the latter includes the coronet as part of the opening mechanism. Mechanically, the Oysterclasp is constructed with a folding clasp with a cover while the Oysterlock is built with a folding safety clasp, a cover, and a safety catch. The Easylink extension system permits the wearer to extend the bracelet by 5mm while the Glidelock can lengthen the bracelet by 20mm in 2mm intervals. Furthermore, the Fliplock extension links allow the band to be adjusted by an additional 26 mm to fit over thicker diving suits.

The Rolex Jubilee Bracelet

Dressier than the Oyster bracelet, the Jubilee bracelet made its debut in 1945 on the then-new Datejust timepiece. Its five-piece links construction includes three thinner interior links flanked by larger links. These two different link sizes are especially noticeable on two-tone Rolesor versions when the interior links are in yellow or Everose gold. It is one of Rolex’s dressier bracelet styles, available in a bevy of metal options and sizes.

While the overall look of the Jubilee bracelet has remained largely the same since its introduction, a closer look at the links reveals some notable modifications over the years. There have been folded links, oval links, D-shaped links, and solid links. Before Rolex became the vertically integrated giant it is today, the company outsourced the manufacturing of certain parts to specialists—standard practice in horology back in the day. Some bracelets were even manufactured in the USA and Mexico and these bracelets had distinct oval-shaped links.

The Jubilee bracelet is fitted with a concealed folding Crownclasp, which has a Rolex coronet lever that opens the bracelet to reveal folding blades. The concealment of the clasp allows the intricate pattern of the Jubilee links to run seamlessly around the wrist.

The Rolex President Bracelet

The Rolex President bracelet was first introduced on the inaugural Day-Date watch in 1956. Its signature semi-circular three-piece links are instantly recognizable and highly sought-after. Rolex only ever produces the President bracelet in precious metals—never in steel. There are yellow, white, and rose gold, as well as, platinum versions of the President bracelet. For ultra-lavish versions, there are also some diamond President bracelets available too.

The President bracelet is exclusive to all Day-Date watches—Day-Date 36, Day-Date II, and Day-Date 40—as well as some precious metal Lady-Datejust and Datejust 31 models.

Over the years, Rolex made some noteworthy versions of the President bracelet including the Tridor variety where the center links had a mix of three shades of gold. For a short time in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Rolex also manufactured some President bracelets with bark-like accents on the center links.

Similar to the Jubilee, the famous President bracelets are always fastened with a concealed folding Crownclasp. Again, this allows for the beautifully curvy bracelet links to wrap around one's wrist without interruption from a bulky clasp.

The Rolex Integrated Bracelets

In 1977, Rolex presented a range of Oysterquartz watches that ran on in-house quartz calibers. In addition to the distinct angular case shapes of the Oysterquartz Datejust and Oysterquartz Day-Date watches, another fundamental design element of these unique Rolex quartz watches were their bracelets.

True to the fashion of the era, Oysterquartz watches have integrated bracelets that taper towards the clasp. A truly unforgettable look, these bracelets are really fantastic. But even more clever is how Rolex took its classic bracelet designs—Oyster, Jubilee, and President - and revamped them into the integrated style.

The stainless steel integrated Oyster bracelet, two-tone integrated Jubilee bracelet, and solid gold integrated President bracelet were designed close enough to the original bands to bear the same names, yet modified enough to give the Oysterquartz watches their singular style. Many Oysterquartz bracelet codes are the same number as the reference of the watch.

The Pearlmaster Bracelet

Rolex launched the Pearlmaster bracelet in 1992 for the Lady-Datejust Pearlmaster watches. The Pearlmaster is Rolex's collection of lavish jewelry watches where diamonds and other gems adorn the dial, bezel, bracelet, or all of the above.

Distinguished by their rounded five-piece links, all Pearlmaster bracelets are exclusively in 18k gold, whether in yellow, white, or Everose. Diamond versions range from a pair of diamond-set links to full diamond pavé styles.

While the Pearlmaster's home is the Pearlmaster watch collection, in the 2000s, Rolex did make some special edition Day-Date "Masterpiece" watches fitted with Pearlmaster bracelets and 39mm cases. This explains why in some circles, the Pearlmaster bracelet is called the Masterpiece bracelet. However, in the official brand catalog, these Masterpiece/Pearlmaster bracelets for the Day-Date were labeled "Oyster Special Edition."

The Rolex Leather Strap

Though Rolex is most famous for its metal bracelets, the Swiss watchmaking giant certainly has made its fair share of leather straps too. In fact, early Rolex models came with leather straps including vintage Oyster watches. The advent of Rolex tool watches — Explorer, Submariner, Milgauss, and GMT-Master — brought about the dominance of metal bracelets in the Rolex Oyster catalog. On the other hand, as the brand’s more traditional dress watch, Rolex Cellini watches have often had leather straps. All current Cellini watches are fitted with leather straps equipped with tang buckles.

In the early 2000s, Rolex revealed some special white gold Daytona models with colorful dials and even more colorful leather straps. Dubbed the "Daytona Beach" collection, these vibrant chronographs donned pink, turquoise, green, and yellow exotic leather straps.

There is an assortment of modern Rolex watches with leather straps such as the Sky-Dweller, Daytona, Day-Date, and Datejust. The Day-Date 36 with leather is yet another collection of colorful dial and leather combinations, including green, blue, Bordeaux, and chocolate. Completing these leather straps are matching gold folding Crownclasp buckles for easy adjusting and optimal security.

Rolex recently replaced all leather Daytona watches with another style of bracelet, the Oysterflex.

The Rolex Oysterflex Bracelet

The newest Rolex bracelet to join the catalog, the Oysterflex is the brand’s version of a rubber strap. Making its debut on the Everose Yacht-Master in 2015, the Oysterflex may look like an ordinary black rubber strap. But of course, it isn't.

First, Rolex insists on calling it a bracelet rather than a strap. This is because of its unique construction. The proprietary Oysterflex actually begins as a titanium and nickel metal alloy blade. That metal blade is then coated in black elastomer. This clever combination means the Oysterflex is both robust like metal yet flexible like rubber.

Flip the Oysterflex bracelet over and you'll find a patented cushion system that resembles fins. This detail allows for much-needed air circulation to keep the sweatiness typically associated with rubber straps at bay.

When the Oysterflex first launched, it was only available on the Everose Yacht-Master 40 and Everose Yacht-Master 37. The white gold Yacht-Master 42 later followed with an Oysterflex bracelet. The Oysterflex bracelet is now also an option on yellow, white, and Everose gold Daytona models. As previously mentioned, the Oysterflex Daytona watches have replaced the leather Daytona models.

There are three widths for the Oysterflex bracelets and each side of the bracelet comes in six different lengths, which are categorized from letters C to H. Rolex currently only pairs the Oysterflex bracelet with gold versions of the Yacht-Master and Daytona.

The Iconic Rolex Bracelets

As we've illustrated, the bracelet style is such a significant part of the look and feel of a Rolex watch. It's one thing to have certain watch models that are so famous that they are recognizable just by their model names without the need to mention the brand name. Rolex took it further by applying this same icon-making approach to its collection of bracelets.

Rolex bracelets have their own names, distinct design language, histories, and marketing campaigns. No other luxury brand celebrates the watch bracelet as intensely as Rolex does. Drop the names Oyster, Jubilee, and President, and people who know watches immediately know what these Rolex bracelets look like. Similar to cases and movements, Rolex dedicates an enormous amount of research and development to their bracelets too. And it clearly shows when you put one of them on.

Oyster vs Jubilee: Which Rolex Bracelet Should You Choose?

What’s the difference between the two most iconic watch bracelets in the world, and which is right for you?

You’ve decided to take the plunge and get yourself a Rolex . Or, maybe you just put your name on a waiting list for your dream watch. Even if you’ve already got the model and exact variant in mind, though, you still might be faced with an important #richpeopleproblems choice: Oyster or Jubilee bracelet?

Not every Rolex watch comes with this decision, and these aren’t the only bracelet/strap styles the brand makes. But they’re the two bracelets most people are most likely to be choosing between. Getting a GMT Master II ? A Datejust ? A Sky-Dweller? You’ll have to take your pick.

Another reason it’s good to understand the differences between these two iconic bracelet styles is that other brands offer similar bracelets, as well — particularly the Oyster, which is the de facto tool watch bracelet style for many a brand.

rolex oyster and jubilee bracelets

So what are the differences between Oyster and Jubilee bracelets? Is one better than the other? A lot comes down to style, purpose and preference, but here’s what you’ll want to know in making any decision.

Jubilee is the swankier option

The Jubilee bracelet is so named because it was introduced on the Datejust at a jubilee event for Rolex’s 40th anniversary in 1945. The Jubilee is a five-link bracelet with its outer links brushed on top, and its three inner links mirror-polished.

With shorter links, and more of them, however, a complicated look makes it stand out, and it’s the classic choice for a model like the Datejust — that’s made for genteel activities more than rough-and-tumble ones. It’ll make a watch feel more dressy and a bit more flashy compared to the no-nonsense vibes of the Oyster, and that includes sporty models. Rolex sports watches are today fully prestige items, so why not wear them as such?

The Jubilee is currently offered as an option on the Datejust, the GMT-Master II and the Sky-Dweller, with the latter being your only choice if you want a full-gold Jubilee, as those were introduced by Rolex at Watches and Wonders 2024 . The Datejust and GMT-Master II both offer steel and two-jone Jubilees, depending on the reference.

All three watches — Datejust, GMT-Master II and Sky-Dweller — are also available on an Oyster, making them the only watches where you’ll actually need to decide between the two bracelet styles.

Oyster is the sportier, simpler, everyday option

The Oyster bracelet was introduced in the 1930s (and later patented by Rolex) and its sturdy three-link construction embodies the old-school tool-watch side of Rolex’s personality. On some models, like the Submariner, all three links are totally brushed for a more utilitarian feel. On others, like the GMT-Master II and Daytona , only the bracelet’s outer links are brushed while the center links are polished to add some luxury sparkle.

The Oyster is the more understated option and is most associated with the brand’s sporty “Professional” models. It’s perfect for watches like the Submariner — and is, in fact, the only option for the Sub along with the Explorer, Explorer II, Oyster Perpetual, Air-King, Sea-Dweller and Deepsea.

It can can also imbue something like a dressy Datejust or Sky-Dweller with a pragmatic vibe that’ll make it more versatile and easy to wear for years and in many situations. The Oyster is by far Rolex’s most common bracelet option, and the only models that don’t offer an Oyster are the Day-Date and the 1908 dress watch , which only comes on a leather strap.

The Jubilee is slightly more expensive

More complicated to produce, the Jubilee tends to command a price premium over the Oyster of a couple hundred bucks. (On a steel GMT-Master II, the difference is exactly $200.) A Jubilee bracelet arguably makes a watch look more expensive, too. As long as your spending Rolex money in the first place, though, you should get exactly what you want, and this probably won’t be a deal breaker — but it’s one element of which you should be aware.

Many consider the Jubilee to be especially comfortable

The Oyster is very comfortable, but the Jubilee’s smaller links help it curve more precisely to the wrist, allowing it to better “hug” the wrist. It might be merely anecdotal, but Rolex owners often cite the Jubilee’s exceptional comfort as a primary reason to prefer it over the Oyster.

steel rolex watch on man's wrist

Don’t forget about the clasp

Different Rolex models come with different bracelets, and they can be fitted with specific clasps. Since there’s no option to pair the bracelet you want with a certain clasp, this is simply an element of Rolex bracelets to be aware of when weighing their pros and cons.

The Jubilee bracelets on the Datejust and Sky-Dweller are only available with an Oysterclasp, the most basic of Rolex’s folding clasps, while the Jubilees on the GMT-Master II comes with an Oysterlock clasp, which is more secure against accidental opening.

Oyster bracelets in Rolex’s “Classic” line — Datejust, Oyster Perpetual and Sky-Dweller — again come with Oysterclasp, while the “Professional” models — Air-King, Explorer, Daytona and GMT-Master II — get an Oysterlock. The aquatic Professional watches — Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Deepsea and Yacht-Master — boast Glidelock clasps on their Oyster bracelets, which incorporate an on-the-fly micro-adjustment feature.

Other Rolex bracelet styles

In addition to the Oyster and Jubilee, Rolex makes two other bracelet styles: the President, which is a rounded three-link bracelet only available with the Day-Date (and hence only available in precious metal).

Then there’s the Oysterflex, a black rubber strap with a titanium-nickel core that’s available on certain precious-metal references of the Daytona, Yacht-Master and Sky-Dweller. The Sky-Dweller offers the most bracelet options of any Rolex model and is the brand’s only watch to offer the choice of an Oyster, Jubilee or Oysterflex.

Rolex Bracelet Guide | Jubilee vs Oyster

photo rolex oyster and jubilee bracelets in steel, two-tone and solid gold, discovering your bracelet preference.

Considering your first Rolex is an exciting journey! Many first time buyers choose between the  Rolex Jubilee or Oyster bracelet. Although many also enjoy the President, Pearlmaster and strap bracelets; the Jubilee and Oyster style bracelets are on the majority of Rolex models.

Trying on the various models with both types in a variety of metals eases the decision making process. Each thickness and diameter wears slightly different depending on the bracelet and wrist size.

A large percentage of Rolex are paired with either the Jubilee or Oyster bracelet.

Many prospective buyers pose the question "Jubilee or Oyster?"

This Beloved Watch Journal was inspired by a recent Facebook post created by yours truly.

( Above photograph Rolex Jubilee vs Oyster bracelet infographic 24% Oyster and 76% Jubilee )

The Oyster bracelet is used on the following Rolex sport/dress models.

The Jubilee bracelet is used on the following Rolex sport/dress models.

  • Rolex Datejust
  • Rolex GMT-Master

Bracelet review | rolex jubilee, (photograph above : four rolex jubilee bracelets new style and old style clasp & link), ju·bi·lee | celeration & anniversary.

The first Rolex manufactured bracelet was the Jubilee bracelet in 1945. This in-house bracelet celebrated 40 years of Rolex. The Jubilee bracelet was originally released only on the solid gold Datejust.

Jubilee noun A special anniversary of an event, especially one celebrating twenty-five or fifty years of a reign or activity. The in-house Jubilee bracelet offered more diversity and a new way to display the manufacturer's engineering prowess.

Rolex began producing other models that used the Jubilee bracelet in the 1950s.

The bracelet would evolve with the brand and update the end links, clasp and links.

Left to right : Older style (hollow end caps/center links), Discontinued newer style (concealed clasp solid end link/links) & newest style (Oysterclasp solid end link/links).

The evolution of the jubilee bracelet.

The Jubilee began as a folded link bracelet with hollow end links. The folded design was then upgraded into a hollow 3 center link and solid 2 outer link design which greatly improved the durability.

The latest design uses 5 solid inks ensuring the strongest possible structure which can withstand everyday wear.

The older Jubilee bracelet design flaws were caused by the hollow structure. This flexible design causes more wear throughout the pressure points of the bracelet.

Each pressure point depends on interlocking pins that connect each link. This connection is much wearer with a hollow link vs a solid link. The upgraded solid bracelet greatly improved the Jubilee bracelet's overall durability.

(Photograph below mint condition older style Jubilee bracelet on Rolex Datejust 16220)

The hollow bracelet was cured by the solid end link (SEL) and robust solid center links. This updated bracelet far out performed the older design.

These upgrades were first introduced with the launch of the model 63200 featuring the super jubilee with concealed clasp.

The concealed Jubilee clasp was later discontinued and updated to the Oysterclasp.

The main reasons why the "Super Jubilee" was discontinued was the lack of micro adjustment capability.

The size of your wrist changes during cold and warm environments.

Many collectors are upset by the removal of the beautiful super Jubilee since it's far more dressy and formal vs the updated folding clasp.

Rolex reserves the concealed clasp to the Day-Date President bracelet. The Day-Date Pearlmaster bracelet on the Masterpiece also have a concealed clasp.

Note : This end link upgrade was also given to the Oyster bracelet. This is NOT exclusive to the Jubilee.

The 126XXX (126234, 126200 & 126231) is the newest iteration of the 36mm Datejust. The newest model Jubilee bracelet has a folding Oysterclasp (instead of the previous hidden clasp on the 116XXX model line).

The change from the concealed clasp to the Oysterclasp makes the Datejust seem more like a sport model due to all other sport models having similar clasps.

In 2018, the Rolex GMT-Master II received a new style Jubilee bracelet with flip lock clasp. This is the first time the flip lock clasp is paired with the Jubilee bracelet.

(Photo below Rolex Ceramic GMT-Master II "Batgirl" 126710BLNR with updated Jubilee flip lock bracelet)

The Jubilee bracelet has a small five-link design. The Jubilee design features three interior links secured by two outer links.

The smaller link size in the Jubilee bracelet creates additional movement and flexibility allowing the bracelet to mold the wrist.

This molded bracelet offers superior comfort to less common wrist sizes.  The Jubilee bracelet tends to feel lighter since it uses less metal.

BRACELET REVIEW | ROLEX OYSTER

Oys·ter | marine mollusk & waterproof.

The Oyster bracelet is first available in 1938, three years after the first in-house Jubilee hit the market.

Oyster noun Oyster is the common name for a number of different families of salt-water bivalve molluscs that live in marine or brackish habitats.

The Oyster name promotes the marketing initiatives of the Rolex Oyster case being waterproof.

The oyster concept was revolutionary in the world of watches because of it's complete waterproofness.

The Oyster bracelet was used on a variety of sport and dress models throughout Rolex history.

Much like the Jubilee, the bracelet would evolve with brand and update the end links, clasp and links.

Left to right : Older style (hollow end links older style folding clasp), New style (SEL solid end links new style folding clasp)

(above left to right : older style flip lock clasp, new style flip lock clasp with glide lock adjustment), the evolution of the oyster bracelet.

The Oyster bracelet has had many improvements since it's birth. The link design, clasp functionality and hollow to solid end link were amongst the a few of the most well known updates.

The Submariner featured the flip lock clasp up until the Glide-lock clasp was introduced in 2010. The Glide-Lock system allows for simple sizing of the bracelet up to two links worth of space.

(Photograph below of new style Oyster bracelet with flip-lock clasp and Glide Lock adjustment)

The Glide-Lock clasp also assists divers who want so quickly adjust their watch to fit over their dive suit.

Other models were given the easylink 5mm extension update which acted as a smaller adjustment that used a small folding link to extend the bracelet

The rectangular 3 link design are wide and sturdy. The robust link design is perfect for an everyday watch.

The Oyster link fights gravity much better than the Jubilee bracelet due to less pins and connections. The Oyster bracelet tends to feel slightly heavier than the Jubilee bracelet.

The Oyster bracelet maps the same update path as the Jubilee bracelet; clasp, link and end link improvements.

The Oyster bracelet went from a tinny flip lock and folding clasp to a much higher quality Oysterclasp and flip lock clasp with new glide lock adjustment.

The larger Oyster link can cause a strange fit for unique wrist sizes since you can only remove one link and use 4-6 micro adjustments (depending on newer or older style clasp, the older has 6 and the newer have 4-5) in the clasp.

How Many Links does a Rolex Come with? (+ How to Count)

Rolex Oyster bracelet

How Many Links does a Rolex Come with And How to Count Them

How many links does a Rolex bracelet come with from the factory?

Rolex has a number of different bracelet designs, made for different types of watches. From the factory, Rolex watches come with full links, and when a customer buys a watch, the retailer will help size the bracelet for the customer – if they want to.

For smaller watches, targeted towards people with smaller wrists, the bracelets tend to have fewer links. For larger, sports watches, the bracelets have enough links so that they fit most wrists. It is unusual that people have so large wrists that they need to add more links than what the bracelet has from the factory.

But how many links do Rolex bracelets come with from the factory? The answer is that it varies. It also depends on how you count, because different people may give you different answers concerning the same watch. Below you can find how many links a Rolex watch comes with from the factory.

Rolex Bracelet links – How many links do different Rolex bracelets have?

Below, we have compiled a list of the most common Rolex models and the total of links they come with from the factory. Note that the total number of links indicates the number of standard links (fixed and removable) and not half-links, end links, Easylinks, etc.

Note that exact same models but with different metals (gold, steel, gold & steel, etc.) have the same number of bracelets on the links, only that the bracelet is made in a different material. A 126234 has, for example, the exact same number of links as a 126233 or a 126231.

How many links does a Rolex bracelet come with?

On Oyster bracelets, It varies from 11 to 15 links, but a vast majority have 12.

Professional models from Rolex come with 12 links plus the end link and either EasyLink extension system . These Rolex bracelets have 4 fixed links on each side, which are links you cannot remove. You can see which links are removable by looking at the side of the links. The removable links have a head screw in the link. The end link is a half link, and whilst some people count this as a link, it’s officially not. This is primarily what can cause some confusion, as some people will then say that a Rolex comes with 13 links.

There are, however, exceptions to this rule as not all oyster bracelets have 12 links. Some Oyster bracelets such as the Oyster bracelet reference 78360 have 13 links which is due to the fact that the clasp is shorter.

The Rolex Oysterquartz, on the other hand, has 13 links.

How many links does Rolex Submariner have?

The new 2020 Rolex Submariner (regardless of material): 124060, 126610LN, 126610LV, 126613LB, 126613LN, 126618LN, 126618LB, 126619LB have 11 and a half links on the bracelet. This means that Rolex has removed one link and replaced it with a half link compared to the previous Submariner reference.

How many links to Jubilee bracelets have?

So how many links do Jubilee bracelets have?

Jubilee bracelets have 22 links, not factoring in the end links.

How do you count the end links?

Note that you should not count the end links. Furthermore, you should not count the extension clasp ( Glidelock or Easylink), nor the half-link).

Below you can see an example of how you should count the links:

Hello, Thank you for a great article. May I ask, how many links would a Yacht Master 11662 bracelet would come with because I just bought one and the bracelet is very small? Thank you, Clive

Hi, Are you referring to 16622 or 116622?

Either way, the 16622 has a total of 11 normal links. The 116622 has a total of 12 normal links.

' src=

In counting the 12 links that are to come with the Explorer II 226570, is the “end link” you reference (which is not to be counted) the first actual “link” that swings, or is the “end link” the edge of the fabricated case that looks like a link? Please confirm/advise. Thank you!

Hi, By end links, we mean the final links that are mounted against the case. Neither the end links nor the Easylink is counted, only the “standard” links”.

GMT-Master II

yacht master jubilee bracelet

THE COSMOPOLITAN WATCH

The Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II was designed to display the time in two different time zones simultaneously. Robust and functional, it is the ideal watch for criss-crossing the globe.

In function as well as in name, the GMT-Master II evokes long-distance travel across time zones. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) marks mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London – historically the location of the official prime meridian used for calculating longitude and determining different time zones around the world. A cosmopolitan watch, the GMT-Master II is designed for those who criss-cross the globe or whose activities take place simultaneously across several time zones.

ACROSS TIME ZONES Launched in 1955, the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master witnessed the rapid expansion of intercontinental travel in the latter half of the 20th century. It even became the official watch of Pan American World Airways, better known worldwide as Pan Am, the most prominent American intercontinental airline at the time. In 1959, a major event marked the partnership: the first non-stop Pan Am Jet Clipper flight from New York to Moscow. The captain was wearing a GMT-Master, which was used as a navigation aid during the flight. The GMT-Master, a true ‘tool watch’, evolved continually to offer increasing technical performance. In 1982, Rolex introduced a new movement that allowed the hour hand to be set independently of the other hands. To clearly mark this evolution, and to avoid any confusion with the GMT-Master, the model fitted with the optimized movement was named the GMT-Master II.

24-HOUR DISPLAY AND INDEPENDENT HOUR HAND In addition to conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, which display the local time (the time in the wearer’s current location), the GMT-Master II features an arrow-tipped hand which circles the dial once every 24 hours, as well as a bidirectional rotatable bezel and a 24-hour graduated monobloc Cerachrom insert in two-colour ceramic. When the bezel is in the neutral position, that is with the triangle at 12 o’clock, the 24-hour hand displays a reference time (home time, for example), which can be read using the graduations on the bezel . When abroad, travellers can set the local time easily, with the hour hand ‘ jumping ’ from hour to hour thanks to a mechanism operated via the winding crown. The adjustment can be made independently of the minute and seconds hands, and without affecting the 24-hour hand. As a result, travellers can simultaneously read their local time as well as the reference time .

ROTATABLE BEZEL AND ALTERNATIVE TIME ZONE The time in an alternative time zone can be displayed by simply turning the rotatable bezel. In this case, the reference time is no longer shown, as it is the alternative time zone that is now read via the 24-hour hand against the graduations on the bezel. The bezel was carefully designed to ideally fulfil its function. Rolex developed a bezel rotation system with a trigonal spring that allows the bezel to be turned crisply and securely in either direction and locate with a positive click in each of the 24 different hour positions. The bezel can be turned with ease thanks to its knurled edge, which offers excellent grip.

CERACHROM BEZEL INSERT The bidirectional rotatable bezel of the GMT-Master II is equipped with a 24-hour graduated, monobloc two-colour Cerachrom insert. This patented insert is made of extremely hard, virtually scratchproof ceramics whose colours are unaffected by ultraviolet rays. In addition, thanks to its chemical composition, the high-tech ceramic is inert and cannot corrode. The moulded, recessed graduations and numerals are coated with gold or platinum using a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process. Over and above its functions and its intrinsic technical assets, the bezel of the GMT-Master II contributes to the model’s strong visual identity. In 2013, Rolex broke new ground when it introduced its first single-piece, two-colour ceramic bezel insert – blue on one half and black on the other – on an Oystersteel version of the GMT-Master II. A year later, it unveiled the two-colour bezel insert in red and blue ceramic, on a GMT-Master II in 18 ct white gold. In 2018, the brand presented a two-colour bezel insert in brown and black ceramic, on two variants of the GMT-Master II – one in 18 ct Everose gold and the other in an Everose Rolesor version (combining Oystersteel and Everose gold). The two-colour bezel insert in green and black ceramic was introduced in 2022 on an Oystersteel GMT-Master II with the winding crown on the left side of the case and the date aperture at 9 o’clock – the only Rolex watch with this configuration. In 2023, a two-colour Cerachrom insert in grey – a new shade – and black was unveiled on two variants of the model, one in a yellow Rolesor version (combining Oystersteel and yellow gold) and the other crafted entirely from 18 ct yellow gold. These Cerachrom inserts blend the exceptional resistance of high-technology ceramic with the iconic aesthetics of the original GMT-Master.

THE GMT-MASTER II, SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFIED Like all Rolex watches, the GMT-Master II is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories and according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee. The precision of every movement – officially certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) – is tested a second time by Rolex after being cased, to ensure that it meets criteria that are far stricter than those of the official certification. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day – the rate deviation tolerated by the brand for a finished watch is significantly smaller than that accepted by COSC for official certification of the movement alone. The Superlative Chronometer certification testing is carried out after casing using state-of-the-art equipment specially developed by Rolex and according to an exclusive protocol that simulates the conditions in which a watch is actually worn and more closely represents real-life experience. The entirely automated series of tests also checks the waterproofness, the self-winding capacity and the power reserve of 100 per cent of Rolex watches. These tests systematically complement the qualification testing during development and production, in order to ensure the watches’ reliability, robustness, and resistance to strong magnetic fields and to shocks.

THE OYSTER CASE, SYMBOL OF WATERPROOFNESS The GMT-Master II’s Oyster case, 40 mm in diameter and guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet), is a paragon of robustness and reliability. The middle case is crafted from a solid block of Oystersteel or 18 ct gold. The case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only certified Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The Triplock winding crown, fitted with a triple waterproofness system and protected by an integral crown guard, screws down securely against the case. The crystal, with a Cyclops lens for easy reading of the date at 3 o’clock – or at 9 o’clock on the version with the winding crown on the left side of the case – is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire and benefits from an anti-reflective coating. The waterproof Oyster case provides optimal protection for the movement it houses.

CALIBRE 3285 The GMT-Master II is equipped with calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of technology, this movement carries a number of patents. It offers outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability.

Calibre 3285 incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement, made of nickel-phosphorus, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability and is also resistant to strong magnetic fields.

The movement is fitted with the blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in a paramagnetic alloy. In addition to resisting strong magnetic fields, this hairspring offers great stability in the face of temperature variations as well as high resistance to shocks. It is equipped with a Rolex overcoil, ensuring the calibre’s regularity in any position.

The oscillator of calibre 3285 has a large balance wheel with variable inertia regulated extremely precisely via gold Microstella nuts. It is held firmly in place by a height-adjustable traversing bridge enabling very stable positioning to increase shock resistance. The oscillator is also mounted on the Rolex-designed, patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, further enhancing the movement’s shock resistance.

Calibre 3285 is equipped with a self-winding system via a Perpetual rotor, which ensures continuous winding of the mainspring by harnessing the movements of the wrist to provide a constant source of energy. Its oscillating weight has been fitted with an optimized ball bearing since 2023. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of this movement extends to approximately 70 hours.

The GMT-Master II’s movement will be seen only by certified Rolex watchmakers, yet it is beautifully finished and decorated. Since 2023, it has also been marked with the words ‘Chronometer Perpetual’ and ‘Superlative Adjusted’ engraved respectively on the oscillating weight and on the bridges.

BRACELET AND CLASP: SECURE AND COMFORTABLE The GMT-Master II is available on a three-piece link Oyster bracelet or a five-piece link Jubilee bracelet. These two bracelets are equipped with a Rolex-designed, patented Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening. They are fitted with the Easylink comfort extension link, developed by the brand, which allows the wearer to easily increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance. On the 18 ct gold versions of the GMT-Master II, the Oyster and Jubilee bracelets include ceramic inserts – designed by Rolex and patented – inside the links to enhance their flexibility and longevity.

Deep confidence

The Oyster Perpetual Submariner in Oystersteel with a Cerachrom bezel insert in black ceramic and a black dial with large luminescent hour markers.

Unidirectional rotatable bezel, an underwater tool.

The Submariner's rotatable bezel is a key functionality of the watch. Its 60-minute graduations allow a diver to accurately and safely monitor diving time and decompression stops.

Manufactured by Rolex from a hard, corrosion-resistant ceramic, the Cerachrom bezel insert is virtually scratchproof. A luminescent capsule on the zero marker ensures legibility, no matter how dark the environment. The bezel’s knurled edge is carefully designed to offer excellent grip under water, even with gloves.

For legibility underwater

The dial’s luminescent Chromalight display is an innovation that improved visibility in dark environments, an essential feature for divers.

Hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – and broad hour and minute hands enable instant and reliable reading to prevent any risk of confusion underwater.

Oystersteel

Highly resistant to corrosion

Rolex uses Oystersteel for its steel watch cases. Specially developed by the brand, Oystersteel belongs to the 904L steel family, alloys most commonly used in high-technology and in the aerospace and chemical industries, where maximum resistance to corrosion is essential.

Oystersteel is extremely resistant, offers an exceptional finish once polished and maintains its beauty even in the harshest environments.

The Oyster bracelet

Alchemy of form and function.

The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable.

It is equipped with an Oysterlock clasp, which prevents accidental opening, and an ingenious Glidelock, allowing fine adjustments of the bracelet without using any tools — and allowing it to be worn comfortably over a diving suit.

  1. Yacht-Master 40 on a jubilee bracelet, need some help.

I believe that fskywalker has done this in the past. Yes as Lee pointed out I have put my 65210H Jubilee bracelet on my 16622 Yachtmaster (case of the 16622 / 116622 / 126622 are the same in terms of the bracelet), some pictures below: I read the superjubilee bracelets 63200 / 63600 would also fit as well.

  3. Does it look good? (Yacht Master + Jubilee Bracelet) : r/rolex

The esthetics of this makes so much more sense than the oyster steel bracelet. I prefer the oyster on the BLNR. I love the Pepsi GMT with the jubilee. I think this is a good possibility. It goes so well with the bezel fluting. As any AD will tell you the fluted bezel on the date just is a better sale than a smooth bezel with a jubilee.

  5. Rolex Yacht-Master

An elegant watch with a sporty character, it was the first to be paired with an Oysterflex bracelet in 2015. In 2023, after testing under real-life conditions by acclaimed helmsman Sir Ben Ainslie, Rolex launched a new version of the Yacht-Master 42.

  6. Oyster vs Jubilee: Which Rolex Bracelet Should You Choose?

The Jubilee is slightly more expensive. More complicated to produce, the Jubilee tends to command a price premium over the Oyster of a couple hundred bucks. (On a steel GMT-Master II, the difference is exactly $200.) A Jubilee bracelet arguably makes a watch look more expensive, too. As long as your spending Rolex money in the first place ...

  7. Yacht-Master on Jubilee?

The SELs of the Super Jubilee fit nicely between the lugs of the Platty; but that's it - when you push the spring-bar thorugh, it refuses to line up with the holes of the lugs. The older Jubilee bracelet has different non-SELs so apparently they seem to match up as do the spring-bars. JJ _____
