So, who are our clients? They own motor yachts from about 30 meters to 80 meters. They are private, floating luxury homes, travelling vacation spots, second (third, fourth, fifth) homes, entertainment venues. Our clients value the privacy and freedom that luxury yachts offer. Some cruise the traditional Mediterranean – Caribbean route, others slip through New England, or the US West Coast, many take extended trips into the Pacific to explore the islands of the Galapagos, the Far East, and a few truly adventurous owners take the yacht to the Antarctic! Really, the only limit to travel is the imagination!  

They hire professional Captains, properly experienced, well certified. Proper Officers with a long-term view of their career. Those Captains, in turn, hire happy, hardworking, professional, fun crew (yes even the Engineers) who are looking to put in the work and have a great time working with a team of like-minded yacht crew.

If you have never worked on a yacht and do not know what to expect, that would make sense, but our clients are seeking well experienced candidates. Each yacht has a training program that will both sharpen your general skills and give you great confidence on how the individual program is run. With each of our clients, there is room for growth – training, learning how to give and take constructive criticism, management skills.

Even skills that may not, at first glance, fall into the realm of what you might expect can become important. Water Sports (Wind Surf, Kite Board, E-Foil), diving with guests, even deep-sea fishing experience are all those additional skills that our clients love to hear about.  

Proper yacht crew are very physically active, but we never lose focus of the fact that this hard work is also fun – we are in the business of supplying the world’s most luxurious vacations, in a safety environment. That means care and excitement are properly blended.

Can it get a bit stuffy at times – yes. When a king or queen comes aboard it is not uncommon to have to put on the formal uniform. We do say “sir” and “madame,” we learn silver service, we learn to observe and anticipate the needs of guests. We treat the owner’s parents like the most important people on earth. We also crack a smile. We laugh out loud. We jump in the water with the kids. We hold the hand of that guest who is just not sure about the jet skis. We produce the most exquisite vacations on earth. 

What about the people you work with – the rest of the crew on the yacht? They are people similar to you – happy, outgoing, hardworking. You rely on each other. You know they are fulfilling their promise to you, you are fulfilling your promises to them. But they are also different. They come from literally every country on earth. Different cultures, foods, backgrounds, languages. You learn from them – they learn from you. You create bonds with these people that truly last your entire life.

This is yachting – we work hard and we have a great time doing it!

Debora Radtke takes a look at some of the varied cruising grounds on offer from southern Florida to the Great Lakes and the unique landscapes each has to offer the superyacht owner and guests

Fort Lauderdale has longed called itself the yachting capitol of the world. More than just American hubris, it is home to the largest boat show in the world and it may, indeed, deserve that title. Yachting is an integral part of the economy of South Florida. The fact that it kept growing and moving even during a pandemic is proof of that.

So why should a yacht decide to “discover” south Florida? It’s a great jumping off point to the Bahamas, it’s easy to get parts shipped in, and typical tax and duty is less than 10% for items that don’t qualify as ships spares. It has world class repair facilities. But South Florida is becoming more than just a pitstop between Caribbean and Med seasons.

Miami rivals any other city in the world with night life, restaurants, art galleries, and events. Art Basel at the beginning of December has dockage options sold out months you can cruise to Palm Beach and take in a Polo Match, or move further up the coast to Cape Canaveral for a Space X rocket launch

However, many American owners and others are choosing new cruising grounds. One “undiscovered” area is the Great Lakes, a string of 5 freshwater lakes, Superior, Michigan, Huron, Ontario and Erie, that separate the US and Canada. The Great Lakes contain 21% of the world’s surface fresh water. Lake Superior, the largest, has often been called an inland sea. It is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface; thus, it makes its own weather.

Access to the lakes is through the St. Lawrence Seaway. The majority of the seaway follows the natural path of the St. Lawrence River, but since there is a rise of 600 feet from sea level to Lake Superior, the western most lake, there is a series of locks, the most notable of which is the Welland canal – the path around Niagara Falls. Pilotage is compulsory for the majority of the trip, for foreign flagged vessels over 300 GRT.

Entry to the seaway is through an area rich with sea life. One of the first stops may be Taddoussac and the Saguanay Fjord to see Beluga whales. As you work your way west you will follow the path of early explorers and fur traders where you’ll experience the effect of the tidal currents lessening and the influx of fresh water from the Great Lakes turning the water brackish. The first major city to visit is Quebec, Canada. The old city is a UNESCO world heritage site. From Quebec City you would continue west to Montreal. This is where you would have your seaway inspection and pick up the seaway pilot. From Montreal, you head into the Thousand Islands area, a popular vacation destination for Americans and Canadians where you can see some relics of the gilded age, such as the Boldt Castle, in Alexandria Bay. Entering Lake Ontario, you can choose the Canadian side and visit Toronto, Canada’s center of government, or continue on your way to the Welland Canal.

The Great Lakes is an exciting mixture of big cities such as Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, and remote small towns like Parry Sound in Georgian Bay. There are tens of thousands of islands in Georgian Bay. Most of these islands are along the east side of the bay and are collectively known as the Thirty Thousand Islands, including the larger Parry Island. Manitoulin Island, lying along the northern side of the bay, is the world’s largest island in a freshwater lake. In October 2004, the Georgian Bay Littoral was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

Both Canada and the US have numerous provincial and national parks that line the shores of the Great Lakes. In Superior Provincial Park you can discover pictographs from the earliest settlers, and a visit to the Apostle Islands National Lakes shore along Lake Superior’s Wisconsin shoreline takes you among 22 islands and the opportunity to kayak among sea caves that have been carved by a millennium of water and ice movement.

Destinations along Florida’s east coast or through the Great Lakes have much to offer the yachting scene; from the excitement of a large city experience to stunning natural areas, the options for cruising are many and varied.

NO RUSH has Volvo IPS 950s with joystick control, including a cockpit IPS joystick docking station. It features a gyroscopic SeaKeeper stabilizer for maximum comfort at sea. This vessel offers a three-stateroom layout, each with an en-suite head and separate access to a master suite that boasts a king-size walk-around berth with a custom innerspring mattress. The two-person crew quarters have swim platform access. Additional amenities include an electronic hi-lo actuating table in the salon, an upgraded wine refrigerator across from the galley, a dishwasher in the galley, and a washer/dryer underneath the companionway stairs.

Riviera to Unveil 6800 Sport Yacht at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

Australian yacht builder Riviera will introduce its latest model to the North American yachting audience during the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The 6800 Sport Yacht Platinum Edition will be part of Riviera’s 11-model showcase.

Following three years of development, the Riviera design group—in collaboration with superyacht designer Luca Vallebona—have created this series’ flagship. It features well-defined areas for guest enjoyment, from the foredeck to the protected aft deck and salon. The stern has an electro-hydraulic, articulating swim platform that morphs into steps which can be lowered below the water or raised above to match the level of dock or quay, with aft wing doors on either side as well. Snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding and fishing enthusiasts will find stowage for watersports gear in the tender garage, and there’s also a tender cradle and electric winch system.

The aft deck is the entertaining and dining center, with an extended hardtop providing all-weather protection. A guest lounge extends across the width of the transom; forward to port is an L-shaped lounge dining area with folding teak table. This area also has an entertainer’s galley with a grill and hotplate, exhaust fan, two drawer fridges, an ice maker, stainless-steel sink with a mixer and solid-surface benchtop. An LED TV folds down from the hardtop.

The galley window lowers with the push of a button to connect the salon and aft deck. The U-shaped galley is outfitted with all the requisite meal-prep appliances and stowage for extended cruising. Forward of the galley to port is a U-shaped lounge with matching ottomans, along with a handcrafted solid-wood table that folds out from the lounge for dining inside. The salon also has a very practical starboard door for foredeck access to tend to mooring lines when short-handed cruising.

The 6800 Platinum Edition has  four staterooms and three heads belowdecks, plus a utility/crew cabin. The full-beam master has a walkaround king-size berth while the VIP forward has a queen berth. The portside guest stateroom has twin berths that slide together for a single berth  while the starboard guest stateroom adds two adult-sized single berths overlapping at 90 degrees. This can also be laid out as a media room to entertain young children. Finally, there are crew quarters which can also be used for laundry or utility as needed. 

Access to the full-height engine room is via a watertight door from the utility cabin aft of the master stateroom, or through a lift-up door on the transom. Standard power is twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13 IPS 1350s.

The Pantera 35 is due to arrive in Fort Lauderdale September 2025. Her exterior styling and interior space plan is by renowned designer Jure Bukavec of Unielle’ Yacht Design and her interior decor design is by H2 Yacht Design of London. This raised pilothouse yacht has been created expressly for the American market and American Project Manager, Tim Kings is onsite to oversee the build process.  Infused with the experience and knowledge of the Atlantic Yacht and Ship team that brought to market such custom yachts as King Baby 140’ and Serenity 133’, the Atlantic 115 is Rina Commercial Class and MCA LY3 compliant.

Her design exploits the needs of contemporary, knowledgeable owners and captains with generous 27’ 6” max beam and a shallow cruising draft of 5’ 8” making the skinny waters of the Bahamas and Caribbean accessible. Powered by twin Caterpillar C32s she will cruise easily at 20 knots. Fully specified with USA friendly engineering and systems, the Atlantic 115 includes zero speed stabilization, prop tunnels, full sound insulation, bow and stern thrusters and all name brand components that are best-in-class.  

Plenty of outdoor spaces for both sun and shade, the flybridge features full pilothouse with navigation, comfortable outdoor seating, BBQ, dining, jacuzzi and in-mast day head & shower. The aft beach club features an Opacmare drop down transformer extending and facilitating your access to the sea. On the main deck, aft area dining or sunbathing.

Her large floor to ceiling windows in the main salon and dining area plus the clear bulwarks in this area brings a vision of the sea inside. Builder: Sirena Length: 25m

German Frers is responsible for this volume-packed 25-metre cruiser, which hides bags of space across its tri-deck trawler design. Owner flexibility is prioritised in this model, with a flybridge that can be completely enclosed or semi-enclosed to offer a versatile upper deck space with a handy helm station. This is the first Sirena model to offer this kind of forward-thinking functionality – not even the 88 model comes with a fully enclosed flybridge. The yacht makes an exciting addition to the line-up of new yachts at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. 

Azimut Grande 36M

Builder: Azimut Length: 35.3m

The little sister of its larger 38-metre model, the Azimut Grande 36M is set apart from its siblings by her extensive use of glazing, open plan layout and eco-friendly performance – including her high-efficiency hull design created by Pierluigi Ausonio of Studio PLANA in collaboration with the Azimut | Benetti Research and Development department. Full-height, electrically operated sliding glass doors on the upper deck disappear completely into pockets in the superstructure when open, creating a semi-walkaround upper deck where the side decks act as terraces.

Numarine 37XP

Builder: Numarine Length: 37.2m

Designed by the Turkish yard and with Can Yalman , the 37XP features naval architecture by Umberto Tagliavini and interiors by Hot Lab. Its lines are a more refined take on the robust look of the 32XP with flowing softer lines that extenuate its longer length. Highlights come in the form of a 10-metre-long flybridge and space for a nine-metre tender on the upper aft deck that, when launched, turns into a large sunbathing platform.

Gulf Craft Majesty 111

Builder: Gulf Craft Length: 34.1m

This marks the Majesty 111's third continent following her debut in Dubai and first international appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show . With exterior and interior by Phathom (in the studio's first on-the-water project), a highlight of the yacht’s design is its focus on natural light, with up to 40 per cent more glazing than yachts of comparable size. This is particularly evident in the owner’s cabin, which sits below a glass-floored dip pool that sends cascades of light into the cabin below. The new model slots between the existing Majesty 100 and Majesty 120 models.

Ferretti Yachts 1000

Builder: Ferretti Yachts Length: 30.1m

Launched in 2021, Ferretti Yachts 1000 showcases a sporty exterior with an excess of glazing, enhanced by the practical beach club aft and spacious flybridge. The yacht's standout features include the "substantial" carbon fibre construction, with both the superstructure and hardtop fully constructed from carbon fibre. The yacht packs impressive interior volume into a modest LOA, and the high-volume Ferretti Group will be making its American debut on the docks at FLIBS.

Riva 76' Perseo Super

Builder: Riva Length: 23.3m

First launched by Riva in 2021, the Perseo Super (courtesy of Officina Italiana Design and Ferretti Group’s Engineering Department ) is a hardtop evolution of the Italian shipyard’s earlier Perseo model. Distinguished by her upper deck “sport-fly” helm and 40-square-metre windows, she still carries the Riva tradition in the extensive use of mahogany and polished stainless steel. A design highlight is her convertible cockpit, which sees the dining area become a spacious sunpad by lowering the table for eight and covering it with cushions. 

wallywhy150

Builder: Wally Yachts Length: 24.1m

First premiering at the Venice Boat Show (and then at Cannes), the wallywhy150's "semi-explorer, semi-fly" design harnesses the same team as her big sister, the wallywhy200. From the drawing boards of Wally-Ferretti Group Engineering team, Luca Bassani and Studio Vallicelli Design , the 150GT yacht boasts a number of unique features, including a 270-degree owner’s cabin located in the bow. She also offers 50 per cent more living space compared to other yachts of her size, according to the shipyard. 

Benetti Oasis 34M

Builder: Benetti Length: 34.4m

RWD -designed, the Oasis 34M is a model for "the modern-day owner" with its open-plan social spaces and signature Oasis Deck. This patented aft-deck design comes with opening balconies that, once extended over the water, are ideal for diving in, getting to grips with water toys, and boarding on or off a tender. Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimović took delivery of the second hull in the series, named Unknown , in 2022.

Builder: Viking Length: 27.4m

Inspired by the previous Viking 92 and Viking 80 models, the sportfishing Viking 90 yacht has a streamlined profile with the option to have an enclosed or open bridge. There is also a one-piece wraparound enclosed bridge windshield, enhancing visibility. Delivered in 2023, this model is well-suited to serious anglers thanks to its 922-litre live well on the 224-square-metre cockpit, making it a boat that's worth seeing at FLIBS.

Sunseeker Ocean 182

Builder: Sunseeker Length: 27.1m

This model is poised to offer something "completely novel" to the British yard's existing Ocean range. Named after its gross tonnage, the Sunseeker Ocean 182 features a newly designed enclosed flybridge and a widebody hull that allows for a 7.2-metre beam and plenty of internal volume. Combine this with a single helm station on the upper deck and you have an open-plan yacht that allows for "easy transition from space to space".

80 Sunreef Power Eco

Builder: Sunreef Length: 23.8m

Known as the comfy cat with solar panels galore, the 80 Sunreef Power Sól is named after the Norse sun goddess and will be showing off her bronzed good looks in Fort Lauderdale. Its ultra-slim “solar skin” – composite-integrated solar panels – is built into the yacht's hull, bimini roof and superstructure, and it also features custom-engineered battery banks with a density of less than 5.2 kg per kWh. The catamaran uses this green technology for fuel-free cruising in total silence and can accommodate eight guests in a custom-tailored four-cabin layout.

Sanlorenzo SD90

Builder: Sanlorenzo Length: 27.3m

Building on the success of the SD96 and SD118, this entry-level model boasts a flexible configuration and optimised hull design. One-way glazing allows the windows on the main deck and lower deck to remain concealed, resulting in a more "harmonious" look, according to the yard. She's designed by Zuccon International and Patricia Urquiola, with Philippe Briand also contributing research into the yacht’s efficient form. 

Princess Y95

Builder: Princess Yachts Length: 29.1m

Making her way to North America for the first time is the flagship of Princess' new Y Class series, the Y95. Featuring exterior design by Pininfarina and Olesinski , it has a dramatically different layout to the X Class despite utilising the same hull structure and engineering platform. The change is largely seen in the series' expansive exterior spaces, including an open flybridge area with cleverly concealed crane, a flybridge helm and a raised pilothouse. The Y95 will be part of a five-yacht display that includes the F50, F55, Y85, and the show debut of its "super flybridge" model X80.

Builder: Bering Yachts Length: 29.1m

Making her world debut at FLIBS this year, Papillon is a steel-hulled, semi-custom explorer primed for prolonged bluewater trips. As such, particular attention was paid to “the crew members’ comfort and safety” according to Bering CEO Alexei Mikhailov, with spacious quarters that include a separate galley and crew resting mess. Her pale-grey hull and red bootstripe recall Bering's 44.2-metre flagship Heeus .

Azimut Grande 26M

Builder: Azimut Length: 26m

The Grande 26M touts a distinctive Alberto Mancini exterior, while interiors are the work of Achille Salvagni – the same pairing that produced the Grande 36M and Grande Trideck flagship. Part of Azimut's pioneering fleet of "Low Emission Yachts", her Large POD 4600 propulsion system, combined with a lightweight superstructure, delivers 20 per cent lower fuel emissions (and therefore CO2 emissions).

Alpha Custom Yachts Spritz 102

Builder: Alpha Custom Yachts Length: 31.1m

A World Superyacht Award -nominated series, the Spritz 102 exhibits the design work of Giorgio Cassetta and sees several standout features contained within an eight-metre beam. This includes a 2.2-metre-high ceiling, oversized windows and a tiered aft deck with a heated plunge pool and hydraulic platform, all cultivating a "Miami villa" feel on the water. There are only two Spritz 102's currently on the water – Vivace and Saint V and it is Vivace that will appear at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Sports | Williams drops Fort Lauderdale’s Logan Sargeant from its F1 lineup in middle of the season

Sargeant leaves F1 with one point from 36 race starts since he joined Williams for the 2023 season — and a best finish of 11th this season. He crashed heavily in practice for last week’s Dutch Grand Prix and finished 16th in the race.

“To replace a driver mid-season is not a decision we have taken lightly, but we believe this gives Williams the best chance to compete for points over the remainder of the season,” team principal James Vowles said in a statement. “We have just brought a large upgrade to the car and need to maximize every points-scoring opportunity in a remarkably tight midfield battle.”

Vowles acknowledged the decision would be “incredibly tough” on Sargeant, who was already due to be replaced for next season as Carlos Sainz Jr. moves from Ferrari to Williams to partner Alex Albon for 2025. There are nine races remaining this season, two of them in the United States.

The 21-year-old Colapinto, who is sixth in the F2 standings, becomes the first driver from Argentina to race in F1 since Gaston Mazzacane in 2001. That was a long wait for a country with a proud tradition in F1 as the home of Juan Manuel Fangio, a five-time champion in the 1950s.

“Coming into F1 mid-season will be an enormous learning curve but I am up for the challenge, and I’m fully focused on working as hard as I can with Alex and the team to make it a success,” said Colapinto, who drove one practice session for Williams at the British Grand Prix last month using Sargeant’s car.

Sargeant arrived in F1 at the start of last year as the first U.S. driver in the series since 2015. He had placed fourth in F2 in 2022 but struggled to be competitive in F1 against his more experienced teammate Albon.

The highlight of Sargeant’s time in F1 came on home soil at the United States Grand Prix last year, when he earned the only point of his career in 10th — but only after two cars above him were disqualified for technical infringements. That made Sargeant the first American driver to score a point in F1 since Michael Andretti 30 years before.

It wasn’t the breakthrough Williams had hoped for, however, and Sargeant regularly finished far behind Albon in qualifying and races this year.

In March, the team took the unusual step of benching Sargeant and giving his car to Albon at the Australian Grand Prix after Albon’s own car was wrecked in a practice crash. At the time, Vowles praised Sargeant as “a true team player,” but the incident was a sign the team had little confidence he would score points.

“This is undoubtedly incredibly tough on Logan, who has given his all throughout his time with Williams, and we want to thank him for all his hard work and positive attitude,” Vowles said Tuesday after Sargeant was replaced. “Logan remains a talented driver and we will support him to continue his racing career for the future.”
