The upcoming Cannes Yachting Festival will be an extraordinary event for ICE YACHTS, once again showcasing the tremendous energy with which this shipyard is progressively capturing an increasingly wide audience.

In fact, there will be two world premieres on display: the ICE 66 RS and the ICE 53 ST, two exceptional sailing yachts that are arriving at the most important boat show of the season with features that calling innovative would be an understatement, and which we had the pleasure of testing in advance.

A miracle that ICE YACHTS has made possible thanks to a transformation kit that allows the yacht to switch from a racing configuration to a cruising one in just a few hours . This is done by replacing the floorboards, cabin doors, kitchen, saloon table, cushions, and mattresses. The entire kit fits in a small van (or the marina’s garage), making it easy to switch from the luxurious (and heavier) materials of the cruising version to the lightweight materials of the racing version, remarkably keeping the weight of this 16-meter yacht to just 10 tons.

ICE YACHTS has built the new 53 ST entirely from carbon, using quadraxial and unidirectional fibers, a technique that involves a three-step infusion of epoxy resin, laminated over a closed-cell PVC core.

Jeff Bezos has become one of the world's richest people , so it's no surprise that he's purchased lots of expensive toys, from a megayacht to houses on a private island in Florida.

Bezos has a net worth of $192.3 billion and is currently the second-richest person in the world, according to Forbes .

Bezos has invested some of the money that he's made since founding Amazon in 1994 into other businesses. He founded rocket and aerospace company Blue Origin in 2000, for instance. And in 2013, he acquired The Washington Post. This year, he also sold some of his Amazon shares to fund Day 1 Academies , a chain of nonprofit preschools that he founded.

But Bezos has also spent hundreds of millions on planes, a yacht, houses, and other property. A representative for Bezos didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

One of Bezos' newest acquisitions seems to be a Gulfstream G700.

Bezos's newest private jet appears to be a Gulfstream G700, according to data from JetSpy. The Amazon founder likely took possession of the plane in July, flight data shows.

The G700 just got approval to fly from the FAA in March and is worth around $80 million, BI previously reported.

The Gulfstream would be Bezos' fourth jet.

The G700 is the latest private jet purchased by Bezo, who has collected multiple private planes over the years.

He previously purchased two Gulfstream G650ERs as well as a Pilatus PC-24, BI reported. With the addition of the G700, Bezo's aircraft are now collectively worth more than $200 million.

Through the same LLC that his two G650ERs are registered to, Bezos has also owned a hangar in Seattle since 2015.

Bezos also has a megayacht called Koru.

Koru , a 127-meter yacht, made her debut in 2023 with a trek around the Mediterranean. The vessel cost about $500 million and includes the Abeona, a support vessel, BI previously reported.

The yacht has hosted celebrities from Bill Gates to Leonardo DiCaprio . Bezos and fianc ée Lauren Sánchez also had their engagement party aboard Koru last year.

Bezos recently bought three mansions on an exclusive island off of Miami.

Over the past year, Bezos has acquired three homes in Indian Creek Village , an island off of Miami known for its lux residences. Other notable property owners there include Tom Brady and Carl Icahn.

Bezos has spent $237 million between the three properties.

He also owns property in the nation's capital.

In 2016, two years before Amazon announced that it was building its HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia, then-Amazon CEO Bezos paid $23 million for a compound across the river in Washington, D.C.

Bezos then spent another $12 million renovating the two-structure property, which previously hosted a textile museum. The property features a ballroom, 11 bedrooms, and 25 bathrooms, BI reported in 2018.

The mansions are just a few properties amongst Bezos' extensive real estate holdings.

The Amazon co-founder owns properties in his company's hometown, including a lakeside compound with a private shoreline, boathouse, and a waterslide.

A superyacht belonging to billionaire Liverpool owner John W Henry was spotted in Scottish waters this weekend during a trip around the country.

The 10-year-old vessel, which is 66-metres-long, was pictured in Aberdeen , after appearing in the harbour on Saturday, August 24 after leaving Leith.

The boat , which was built in 2014, was bought by the Liverpool FC owner, thought to be worth $5billion, in 2016. And it sailed to the Granite City as the owner took in his side's 2-0 Premier League win over Brentford at Anfield.

Aberdeen Live reports there was no sign of the American in Aberdeen, and that the yacht departed on Monday, heading south along the east coast.

Henry first took over the English footballing giants back in 2010 when Fenway Sports Group purchased Liverpool, with the group also owning American baseball outfit Boston Red Sox.

Originally built under the name Ester III and delivered in 2014 by German company Lurssen. On its website, Lurssen states "Elysian features strong lines and an extraordinary deck layout and near-vertical bow.

G Herbo Survived a Federal Fraud Case, Substance Abuse, and a Car Wreck. Now, He’s Back and Betting on Himself

G Herbo stands in the wood-paneled control room of a studio in Chicago’s River West neighborhood one afternoon in early May, playing potential tracks for his latest mixtape, Big Swerv (out Sept. 6). He recorded much of it right here in this studio, which served as his second home through the seismic turmoil of the past three years, a period that threatened to upend his career and nearly ended his life.

The mixtape builds on 2018’s Swervo , which takes the name of his alter ego. “One of my friends just gave me that name. It had a lot to do with my lifestyle, like living fast,” Herb, whose given name is Herbert Randall Wright III, tells Rolling Stone . “I was making a lot of money at a young age, and we used to call it swerves.”

Turning the 25 medallion to its side, Herb reveals an engraving featuring the name of two of his kids, Essex, three, and Yosohn, six. (He has a daughter, Emmy, though she came after the medallion.) Still another chain supports an embossed relief of friend and fellow Chicago rapper Juice WRLD, who died in December 2019. “He had like the best, like purest soul,” Herbo says of Juice.

Herb has documented significant losses throughout his career, deaths that inspired albums such as PTSD, 25, and Survivor’s Remorse , all of which hit the Top 10. His brutal honesty — about witnessing life being taken and grappling with the trauma that follows — has contributed to a legacy he began as a teenage progenitor of the drill scene. But in the midst of his rise, he found himself facing a legal case that turned his own life upside down.

Herbo found himself in a police car, where he promptly fell asleep. “Anytime I would get in trouble or get arrested, I would just fall asleep ’cause I feel like being in my head just makes it worse,” he says. But then he was awoken and moved to one of the interrogation vans. “I get on the truck, and they’re investigating me. They asked me about this name — of course, I won’t disclose the name. And I’m like, ‘What the fuck?’” he says.

At one point, the investigators began asking him about wire fraud. “As soon as they said that, I got, like, a big relief. I don’t want to sound ignorant or anything, [but] I kind of got cocky because I don’t do fraud,” he says. “I don’t even know how to really work my cell phone. I barely check my emails, unless it’s having something to do with business. So all of that tech shit and doing frauds and identity theft and credit cards — I’ve never partaken in anything like that in my life.”

Things seemed even better for Herb when no one was arrested, and, he claims, the investigators didn’t confiscate any seemingly incriminating items from the bus. (“We had a bunch of lean, a bunch of weed, a bunch of pills on the bus. And they didn’t care about none of that shit,” Herb notes.) “I was fully relaxed,” he says.

Herb tells me he met Strong at some point through the tight-knit Chicago rap and club scene. But, he insists, they were not close. “He was never a guy that I hung out with,” he says. “He’s not from my neighborhood. I didn’t grow up with him. Like, I can’t even really tell you exactly how we met or what that conversation was ’cause I don’t even remember, it was so long ago.” In fact, when investigators raided Herbo’s tour bus, he says, “he wasn’t even a close enough friend for me to call him and tell him what I had going on. So I didn’t reach out to him or anybody that they asked me about. And, you know, time went on and they never came back.”

And then, two years later, in October 2020, shit hit the fan. Herb and five “associates,” including Strong, were indicted on federal fraud charges (the indictment was unsealed shortly after on Dec. 2, the day before Herb self-surrendered). Herb and the other men were accused of participating in a nationwide wire-fraud and identity-theft scheme. Herb was also later charged with making false statements to a federal agent.

The indictment alleged that, beginning in or around March 2016, Herb and the five other men including Strong, committed wire fraud, using stolen and unauthorized cardholder account information to purchase trips on private jets and yachts, stay in swank hotels and vacation rentals, rent exotic cars, and hire limousines with chauffeurs, among other lavish items. Among the extravagant items purchased, per the indictment, were designer puppies, a private chef, and security-guard services.

But according to Herb, he didn’t need to commit wire fraud: He says he was already making plenty of money from his music to pay for the lifestyle he was already living. “Even in 2016, I was still like, I wouldn’t say a big superstar, but I was a star. I was doing music, I had some success. I was making money, I was selling records already,” Herb says.

Herb denies having perpetrated any of the alleged wire fraud behind Strong’s apparently bargain-priced services, and says he paid Strong with his own earned money in every exchange between them. Herb says he viewed Strong, the man considered to be the ringleader, as “kind of in a way like a travel agent,” a third party who books things like private jets and luxury cars. “I’m not looking into how’s he purchasing it,” he admits, but “I never got anything for free.”

In other words, Herbo knew he was getting a deal when he gave Strong money for private-jet bookings and foreign trips, but, he says, he was unaware how those deals came to be. That wasn’t his business or issue, he thought. “Any transaction, any business that I did at the time with the guy that was on the case — like he’s the head of the case, I’m just a defendant on a case — all I did was just pay money for goods, as an exchange of goods,” he says.

In May 2024, Strong pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 19. A lawyer for Strong declined to comment to Rolling Stone on behalf of Strong.

It still bothers Herb how the case was portrayed both in court and in public. “I had already been accustomed to the life and everything that I was doing. That’s why it was so easy for me to purchase the things that I purchased,” he says. “They think I was having someone like, ‘Oh, use this bogus credit card and do this and do that — give me a jet and give me this and give me that.’ I was just living my regular lifestyle. I was already all flying jets, and if I could, get it discounted or get something at a better rate because this guy’s offering me those services.”

In January, Herb was sentenced to three years’ probation and ordered to “pay restitution and forfeiture of $139,968 each, as well as a $5,500 fine,” according to his sentence. “I sat in court, and I held myself accountable in front of the judge,” he says, adding that in court he apologized to the victims and the families who were affected by his “minor” role in the scheme. “And, you know, he gave me grace, he granted me mercy. I was able to stay home with my family. I’m super grateful for that. But it was definitely a rough patch.”

In that rough patch between the indictment and his sentencing, things went from bad to nearly unsurvivable. Shortly after Herb was indicted in late 2020, Lil Greg died. Herb spiraled. Because of the case, he could not smoke weed, which he had used to treat his PTSD, and he had kicked lean (and has not touched it since) after going to a detox treatment facility for it a second time, in 2019. So Herb turned to alcohol. “That was like the hardest time I ever went through in my life. I literally just resorted to drinking. I fell into alcoholism so bad. I drunk every single day. Like, I almost lost my life,” he says.

In 2023, Herb sued his former manager, Joseph “JB” Bowden, and label Machine Entertainment Group. The complaint alleged that Bowden had taken advantage of Herb when he was a minor, accusing Bowden and the label of “unfair” and “one-sided” deals to obtain Herb’s copyrights and other “valuable rights.”

In the complaint, Herb sought at least $40 million in damages and for material breaches, as well as termination of their recording agreement and for Herb to retain copyright of his recordings. “When I was 16, 15 is when I signed my deal, and I had to have my parents involved. The deal wasn’t really a good deal in my favor at all, you know, so I signed for a lot of albums,” he says, adding that he had “signed away 100 percent of my publishing at one time.” Per documents from the case, Bowden disputed what Herb was owed, stating that Herb’s “lack of financial self-awareness” led to him “wrongfully believing” that he should be recouped on their recording agreement, and denied he was “being cheated out of money.”

The case was settled out of court and was dismissed in March. Herb says he now owns 100 percent of his publishing, and he needs to record/submit one more project, after which he’ll own 100 percent of his masters going forward.

While Herb is happy with the deal, it was not an easy decision to sue. “A lot of empires, a lot of businesses, a lot of friendships, a lot of relationships were ruined because of these same things that I went through: because of money, because of splits, because of things like that,” Herb says. “I feel like, especially as Black men, if you can’t really come to the table and come to an agreement, you know, what was the point?” There was also love and respect that came from years of working together, which complicated things further. “I did look at [Bowden] like family. It wasn’t a business relationship for me, you know. There were certain things that I would have signed without a lawyer because I trusted him that much.”

HAVING PERSEVERED THROUGH three-plus years of life-altering events, Herb says that he’s grown not only musically but also business-wise, and now has a team he trusts. “I can actually bet on myself and execute with the people that I decided to put around me,” he says.

Here in the studio, a venue that has served as solace for him since he was a teen, he’s ready for the next chapter. This particular studio is a comforting one, to the point that a wall of photos includes a snap of his son Yosohn.

His publicist joins us, as well as one of his producers, Daniel “Oz on the Track” Ivy, and Herb’s in-house engineer, Nicholas “Mixed by White” White. The tracks we listen to are bops: There are songs inspired by hitting the club and made for a freeing night out, including “Yup” and the rumbling “In the A,” which features 21 Savage. Herb’s confessional storytelling flavors “Candyman,” which outlines his recent tribulations .

And there’s also the hard-hitting, raspily rapped “Splat,” which infuses his ambition amid clever wordplay. At one point he rhymes some of it a cappella: “Humble beast, that’s still me, but I’m the chosen one at that/Hot n—-, yes, indeed, but I’m the coldest wherever I’m at/I got that working hard, you n—-s lazy, y’all just wanted that/You n—-s remind me of Tom Brady, never wanted a sack.”

Fellow Chicago-bred rapper Chief Keef (“No Pics”) is among the features, as are Sexyy Redd (“Ten”) and Skilla Baby (“Shoot”). “Strike You (Intro)” sets Big Swerv ’s intentions, and it’s among Herb’s favorites. “The first line is like, ‘And no none of this should get me excited. Therefore, I don’t get upset if I don’t get invited. That’s why if I don’t feel respect, then flames get ignited,’” he tells me. “I’m not really here for the glitter and the gold and the perception of what people think is important to me, like a lot of this shit really don’t get me excited.”

As we hang out in the studio over a couple of hours, friends keep on arriving. Herb wants to get their feedback on sequencing for the album. There’s pizza, veggie trays, and a hopeful vibe in the air — well deserved, as Herb’s been through a long journey to get here. And on Sept. 6 his alter ego will emerge once again with Big Swerv . Herb’s more than ready for his next, freeing chapter.

While his past three studio albums dealt with pain, he’s hoping that he can leave some of that behind him. “Not everybody has been in the streets. And not everybody had to experience violence to the levels that I’ve experienced violence. I was always vulnerable and talked about it through my music,” he says of his past material. But with Big Swerv, he showcases his growth as a rapper and looks toward better times. “So I want to talk about having fun, I want to talk about traveling the world, and living life, and fashion, and stuff that everybody loves, that everybody can relate to.”

The design of the exterior and interior was entrusted to the incredibly passionate experts at Joseph Dirand Architecture in Paris – with their precise imagination they created a true icon. It was a huge challenge for the shipyard to implement all technical necessities to be as invisible as possible in order to strictly follow the challenging aesthetic design intent.

“I wanted this boat to be timeless, elegant, pure, thine, classic, contemporary with a large amount of outdoor space to be immersive with the surround landscape. This is exactly what I see when I look at it today – the black hull is really spectacular and looks completely monolithic”, Joseph Dirand commented when he saw MY LIVA emerging from the shed for the first time. “I have been obsessed by this project during all those years and it is the opportunity of my life to design a boat like this. I am happy today that everyone is realizing why all those details were so important to get to this result. It is my turn to thank the shipyard for being such a great partner in the realization of this dream.”

The yacht employs a sophisticated diesel-electric propulsion system designed for exceptionally quiet operation during navigation and maneuvering. This innovative approach incorporates two 2200 kW electric propulsion motors, expertly manufactured by RAMME Electric Machines GmbH and supplied by SER Schiffselektronik Rostock GmbH. To ensure a steady supply of electrical power, the vessel is equipped with two 2240 kW Caterpillar main generators and three 599 kW Caterpillar auxiliary generators, supplied by Zeppelin Power Systems.

To further enhance its propulsion capabilities and onboard comfort, the yacht features an array of advanced components. Four VOITH thrusters lend their power to the yacht’s maneuverability. Four stabilizer fins from SKF play a pivotal role in comfortable experience for passengers and crew alike. This comprehensive blend of cutting-edge technology culminates in a propulsion and comfort system that ensures efficiency, silence, and seamless operation.

The project presented its fair share of challenges, and the most notable was the construction of a tender garage on the Lower Deck fitting a 16-meter day tender. The second tender garage on Main Deck forward accommodates not only three splendid boats, but also a Triton Submersible for up to seven guests and a variety of water toys, bicycles and dive equipment enhancing the yacht’s recreational offerings.

The exterior design, thoughtfully crafted to maintain the vessel’s elegant black silhouette, boasts a unique approach. Instead of traditional anchor pockets, the yacht incorporates underwater anchors on the keel. This ingenious design not only adds to the vessel’s allure but also enhances its efficiency and maneuverability.

Mapping the Arctic adventures of scientific superyacht Yersin

Yersin was built to combine scientific exploration with all the comforts of a superyacht. Owner François Fiat and Captain Jean Dumarais tell Sophia Wilson the story of this ice breaker's first exploration in the Arctic Circle

When 76.6-metre Yersin hit the water back in 2015, it marked a momentous shift in the world of expedition yachts. Not only had the boat, named after 19th-century physician and bacteriologist Alexandre Yersin, been designed to explore the globe, she had also been created to protect it as one of the world’s only sustainable, clean and green vessels. Her vast autonomous range, Ice-Class hull and sustainable credentials were well documented at the time but last year she finally got to flex her exploration muscles on her debut adventure to the Arctic Circle.

“I wanted to test the vessel,” says François Fiat, who devised and owns Yersin . “She was conceived specifically for these regions.” As tests go it was fairly extreme, with the yacht visiting Iceland and Greenland before crossing Baffin Bay and cruising down Baffin Island and on through Labrador, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. At her helm during the voyage was Captain Jean Dumarais who, having been involved in the yacht’s construction, was equally keen to test her capabilities. “It was preparation for future trips over there,” he explains. “The crew are not on board for the glitz and glamour of the Med. They want to go exploring.”

The yacht first headed north at the end of July, stopping in Iceland, before making her way to Greenland’s west coast. After clearing in Nuuk, Yersin headed to Ilulissat, which is home to the Jakobshavn Glacier. “It is one of the most productive glaciers in Greenland, which makes the largest amount of ice,” says Captain Dumarais. “Most of the icebergs that you meet are coming from that glacier.” At approximately 65 kilometres long and two kilometres thick, it’s famous for being the source of the iceberg that caused the Titanic to sink. As the yacht cruised further north, it also visited Eqi Glacier, which is accessible only by boat and was one of the captain’s highlights. “Polar explorer Paul-Émile Victor had a base there when he did his crossing of Greenland and you still find little houses attached to the rock. It is amazing that they are still there in this polar region so many years after he visited,” he says.

Fiat was equally entranced by Greenland’s northern territories. “The most fascinating thing for me was the immensity of the landscape,” he says. “We saw the ice caps from the sea and watched glaciers fall into the water. The air is very crisp and clear.” The pure air quality actually created an unforeseen issue for Captain Dumarais as it became increasingly hard to judge the distances to the shore. “Looking at the glacier it seems that it is near, but when you check it on a radar it is much further away than it appears,” he explains. “You have to verify the distance before you go over there in a tender, especially in ice-covered water. Otherwise it can take a very long time.”

As well as its stunning natural credentials, the trip also provided a fascinating insight into remote communities. “There are two or three main cities but after you head north there are only a few houses and a few dogs,” says Dumarais. “The towns have roads, but they stop at the end of each town, so [people] have to take a boat to visit other settlements.” The trip made Dumarais aware of the uncertain future that these traditional set-ups face. “You can see the movement of the population; a lot of people have moved to the major cities leaving only a few people in the villages. You will see a village with 20 houses and probably 15 of them are now uninhabited. It makes you realise just how fragile this equilibrium is,” he adds.

From Greenland’s Uummannaq, Yersin crossed Baffin Bay to Baffin Island, the largest island in Canada and the fifth-largest island in the world. This stretch of coast proved to be one of the best destinations for spotting sea life and polar bears. On this trip they chose not to have a naturalist on board to help them find bears, but they still had success. “We saw five, including a couple of cubs,” says Dumarais. “They definitely see you more than you see them, though. As they are white-on-white it is very difficult to spot them.”

One of the key parts of Yersin ’s design is her polyvalent room on the main deck, which can be used as a laboratory, media room or classroom as required. Even though this trip was not specifically for scientific purposes, scientists and television reporters did come on board for parts of the adventure. “We did some on-site fact-finding research,” explains Fiat. “In Iceland, we [studied] whales. In Greenland, we surveyed the formation of ice and glaciers falling in the fjords. In Nova Scotia, where the currents are very strong, we studied scallops with the scientists from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris.”

One of the biggest challenges of the voyage was that so much of the route was uncharted. “No map is available – land maps do exist, but it’s not possible to know where the seabed is or how deep the water is beneath the vessel. It could be 10 metres or 500 metres,” says Fiat. To ensure the route was safe, Yersin used sonar and sent the tenders in front to navigate. “We had to cruise slowly and make our own map,” adds Fiat. “When we were unfortunate enough to encounter fog, we had no other choice than to stop, which was quite distressing.”

The lack of charted maps was particularly perilous as the yacht cruised south from Baffin through the remote region of Labrador. “The area is not charted; it’s just a blank page,” recalls Dumarais. “It is treacherous because you can find rocks 50 miles [80 kilometres] offshore.” The yacht used the trip to help plot a safe route for future visitors. “Vessels that go to Labrador make their own way and record their route and send it to the team that creates charts, who will then list the vessel’s route as a new route on the map. Our voyage is now charted,” explains Fiat.

During its time in Labrador the yacht went for periods of longer than a week without seeing any other boats or humans. “In Greenland you can find some villages but in Labrador there is no one,” says Dumarais. Labrador also saw the yacht face some of the most challenging weather conditions. “We had good weather for most of the trip but of course we had a storm as well. If you are visiting this area you expect this,” he says. “We had to hide in a bay and protect ourselves. We were fine but I lost all my instruments because the winds were over 100 knots an hour.”

With such a remote cruising route, provisioning was also one of the biggest considerations that had to be factored in. “The preparations and storage start way before the trip. You have to be very organised,” says Dumarais. “Once you are further north you won’t find anything; you are happy if you find 10 apples.” The crew were able to catch some cod en route, which they used to cook fish and chips, and also purchased some halibut in Greenland. “We made a local dish from the South of France. It was quite amazing to have a glass of wine and that type of food so far from home,” says Dumarais. During the trip they were also able to have some meals on the sundeck using the yacht’s teppanyaki hot plate. “These are some of the best memories, when you are able to eat something unique in a place where you wouldn’t normally think it was possible,” he adds.

As autumn approached, the yacht continued to make her way south, including a stop in the Bay of Fundy, which is famed for having the highest tide in the world. As the seasons changed, those on board were fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights frequently. “We saw splendid aurora borealis,” says Fiat. “We were there in September, and from 10pm to 5am or 6am; the auroras constantly move above your head. It is not a rare phenomenon at all.” After making it as far south as Nova Scotia, Yersin crossed to Bermuda before returning to her native South of France.

So, did Yersin pass the test? According to her owner, yes – with flying colours. “ Yersin is perfectly equipped and she reacted very well, as anticipated. To make this kind of trip you need an appropriate vessel; I know of only one, and that is Yersin ,” he says. For Fiat, it is her combination of robustness and luxury that make her perfect for such a voyage. “Of course, there are many ice breakers out there, but without comfort on board. It is lovely to return after an expedition and enjoy a sauna, relax in a nice [suite], watch a movie and dine on sophisticated cuisine,” he adds.

Captain Dumarais agrees that there is no other yacht he would rather take to this part of the world. “If you have a boat as silent as ours, you can cruise along like you are visiting the place on a magic carpet. You can barely see a wake on the back of the boat,” he says. “It was breathtaking.”

This trip is clearly just the beginning of Yersin ’s adventures and Fiat has even more ambitious plans for her in the future. “My dream trip would be the Northwest or Northeast Passage ,” he reveals. “We stopped on its doorstep and it should be feasible as Yersin has all the capabilities to explore this route.”

Yersin is for sale (for the first time since she was built) with Fraser for €79.5 million.
