Among the numerous sailing destinations around the world, Turkey is becoming increasingly popular. No wonder! Sailing season in TurkeyThe best time to visit Turkey is during autumn or spring. This is when you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, the absence of tourist crowds and good sailing conditions with moderately strong winds and excellent weather. The air temperature is usually in the range of 28°C to 31°C and the water temperature is in the range of 22°C to 25°C, making long snacks and dinners on deck overlooking a beautiful hidden cove or the bustling city unforgettable. During the high summer season (July and August), temperatures can reach well above 31 degrees, and when sailing in the Aegean Sea, beware of the strong north winds that blow through the region from summer to early autumn. This is why we recommend sailing in Turkey during this period only for the most experienced. With its crystalline waters, secluded coves, and a coastline dotted with pine-covered hills, Marmaris provides a spectacular backdrop for sailing adventures. The region’s dependable winds make it a favorite among both novice sailors and seasoned seafarers. Setting sail from the cosmopolitan Marmaris marina, one can easily access a myriad of nearby destinations. The Datça Peninsula, with its ancient ruins and quaint villages, offers a delightful exploration experience. Bays such as Cennet Adası and Kumlubük provide the perfect anchorages for those seeking solace amidst nature. Beyond the natural allure, Marmaris boasts a lively nightlife, diverse culinary scene, and bustling markets that provide a taste of Turkish culture and hospitality. Historical sites, including the Marmaris Castle, serve as a testament to the town’s rich past, providing a unique blend of relaxation and exploration opportunities for sailors. Choosing Yachting.Rent for your Marmaris sailing adventure ensures not only a high-quality vessel but also the local insights and recommendations that turn a good trip into an unforgettable journey. Marmaris is not just a destination; it’s an experience, and with Yachting.Rent, you’re set to discover the very best of it. gallery-largeWhat Choose Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in MarmarisEmbarking on a sailing adventure in the stunning coastal city of Marmaris, Turkey, promises an unforgettable experience, and the choice between a sailing boat and a catamaran can significantly shape your journey. At Yachting.Rent, we guide you through this decision to ensure your trip is tailored to your desires. Sailing boats offer a traditional and intimate sailing experience for those who seek a closer connection to the sea and the thrill of sailing with the wind. Feel the boat heel under the wind and the splash of the waves against the hull. Sailing boats are typically more agile and responsive, offering a more engaging experience for those who love to actively sail. Generally, sailing boats are more budget-friendly and consume less fuel, making them a popular choice for cost-conscious travelers. Their cozy interiors make them perfect for couples or small groups who enjoy a close-knit atmosphere, and their smaller size allows them to navigate into secluded bays and coves, providing a more private and unique experience. On the other hand, catamarans, with their twin hulls, provide a different kind of sailing adventure, known for their stability, space, and comfort. A catamaran offers a stable and smooth ride, minimizing the effects of the sea’s motion, appealing especially to those prone to seasickness. They provide ample space both inside and out, making them ideal for larger groups or those desiring more room to lounge and relax. The shallow draft of a catamaran allows you to get closer to the beach and explore areas that might be inaccessible to deeper-hulled vessels. Many catamarans come equipped with modern luxuries and conveniences, providing a more upscale and comfortable sailing experience, and with large communal areas, they are perfect for socializing and group activities. Choosing between a sailing boat and a catamaran depends on your preferences, budget, and the kind of sailing experience you seek. Our expert team at Yachting.Rent is here to help you make the right choice for your Marmaris adventure. We offer a diverse fleet of well-maintained vessels, each with its unique character and features. Let us assist you in finding the perfect boat that aligns with your vision, whether it’s the exhilarating romance of a sailing boat or the laid-back luxury of a catamaran. Your dream sailing holiday in the sparkling waters of Marmaris awaits, and with Yachting.Rent, we’ll ensure it’s a journey tailored just for you. Find a BoatWhy book with us. Competitive prices, Exceptional Service ONLY Professional Charter Fleets Rated 4.9/5 on Feefo Super-low 25% deposit Turkey Yacht and Catamaran CharterWe have incredible yachts and catamarans ready to sail from Marmaris, Gocek and Fethiye! Sailing around TurkeyTurkey is a fantastic place to sail, and we can help you find and book your ideal yacht or catamaran. There's sunshine for 300 days a year, reliable prevailing winds (particularly after lunchtime), and it's an interesting and exciting place to explore by boat. You'll find turquoise blue seas and idyllic bays, fine restaurants, as well as plenty of historic buildings and fortresses, each telling their own tale. With fewer boats on the water, the sailing area is less crowded than Greece and Croatia - so there is no mid-afternoon rush to find a berth, even in high season. In many bays you'll find restaurant pontoons (which are low cost or even free if you eat in the restaurant) and mooring buoys, and the Turkish people are exceptionally friendly. SAILING RATING: Beginner / Intermediate - The sailing area is non-tidal, with line of sight navigation, which makes it suitable for all sailors. New or novice sailors can explore the sheltered Gocek and Marmaris bay areas, whilst there are stronger winds if you head West of Marmaris to Datca, or South of Gocek and Fethiye to Kas. WHEN TO GO: The sailing season runs from March to November , with peak season being in July and August. There is reliable sunshine and good winds throughout the season. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: You'll need RYA DaySkipper or similar to charter a boat in Turkey. It is recommended to have a valid VHF certificate. If you're not qualified, we can find you a professional skipper . VISA REQUIREMENTS: UK and US passport holders require a Visa to visit Turkey, which should be obtained in advance. EU passport holders can visit Turkey without a visa for 90 days. GETTING THERE: The best airport to fly to is Dalaman , which is closest to all three of our bases (25 minute road transfer to Gocek, 50 minutes to Fethiye, or 1h25 to Marmaris). You could also fly to Bodrum (1h45 to Marmaris, 2h15 to Gocek and 2h40 to Fethiye), or Antalya (2h50 to Fethiye or 3h15 to Gocek). We can help arrange transfers to or from the marina, as well as helping you get provisions on board if your flight arrives late at night. An alternative would be to fly to the Greek islands of Rhodes or Kos and to get the regular ferry from there across to Marmaris or Fethiye. Charter a Yacht or Catamaran in TurkeyWe can help you find the ideal yacht or catamaran for your sailing holiday in Turkey. We only work with the very best professional charter operators in the area, who we have met, know, and who we trust to give you the same outstanding customer service as you'll get from PlainSailing.com . Where to sail in TurkeyWe charter yachts and catamarans from three bases in Turkey - Marmaris, Gocek, and Fethiye. See below for ideas of where to sail when you get there (But be sure to check out our detailed destination guides to find out more). MARMARIS Ideas of where to sail: Paradise island is on the doorstep when sailing from Marmaris, and you can fill your itinerary with unspoilt bays and beaches - like Serce Limani, Sogut, Selimiye, and the ancient village of Bozukkale. GOCEK Ideas of where to sail: The Gocek bay area has 12 unspoilt islands which are perfect for sailing and swimming around. Further afield, you could visit historic Fethiye, the idyllic blue lagoon of Oludeniz to the South, or the thermal and mud baths of Ekincik to the North. FETHIYE Ideas of where to sail: Fethiye is well placed for sailing north to the largely unspoilt Gocek bay area, or South to the blue lagoon of Oludeniz, the scuba-heaven of Kas, or check out the sunken city of Kekova. Yacht charter guests can expect here an average minimum temperature of 15 degrees from May, before peaking to 33 degrees in July and August. It still remains positively balmy come October, reaching up to 24 degrees, with comfortable sea temperatures averaging 25 degrees. related articles The majority of yacht charters in Turkey commence in the country’s southwestern marinas thanks to the excellent provision of facilities, unparalleled scenery, and convenient location to both regional and international airports. Vibrant Bodrum , the picturesque fishing village of Göcek , or the enchanting Çeşme , Marmaris , Fethiye , or Antalya are all chartering favorites. For a less obvious starting point, you could choose the tranquil bliss of the Bosphorus strait near Istanbul . However, keep in mind you will have fewer charter options available in this area. sample itineraries Bodrum and Marmaris are popular points to end a Turkey yacht charter, thanks to their excellent array of facilities and close proximity to international airports. The Turkish Riviera (also charmingly known as the Turquoise Coast thanks to its vividly-colored waters) comprising southwestern destinations like Fethiye , Marmaris , and Bodrum, is by far the most popular area for chartering. Fethiye Yacht ChartersMany begin a yacht charter in Fethiye , thanks to its convenient location to Marmaris and Bodrum in the north. Dominated by soaring cedar trees and pine-carpeted cliffs that tumble into clear blue waters, it's flecked with archaeological ruins and uninhabited islands, with plenty of bays to take toys for a spin. Fethiye yacht charters are also a great base for visiting one of Turkey’s most jaw-dropping beautiful beaches, Ölüdeniz (Blue Lagoon). Göcek Yacht ChartersGöcek yacht rentals have been long adored by international jet setters. This fishing village located on a private bay is the entry to undiscovered coves and more than 12 islands of unmatched beauty. Boasting six well-equipped marinas (including two for superyachts) it’s brimming with cafes and tavernas. Before going off-shore, stop by for a traditional mezze platter or sip a cocktail as the sun's apricot glow falls on its shorefront promenades. Marmaris Yacht ChartersA Marmaris yacht charter gives guests the best of both worlds. A superyacht haven, this buzzing town is a hub of activity: with a bustling grand bazaar, throngs of restaurants, bars, and shops lining cobblestone streets, and paragliders filling the skies above. But this is in dramatic contrast to the rest of the stunning Carian Coast which is within easy reach of Marmaris : secluded bays and quaint villages are dotted all along the Bozburun Peninsula . Bodrum Yacht ChartersWhy are Bodrum yacht rentals so popular? It's a vibrant coastal city humming with nightlife and home to a large glittering marina as well as the landmark St. Peter’s Castle. Unquestionably a glamorous beach hangout, hip restaurants and bars sheltered by palm trees frame the chic Yalikavak marina. During a Bodrum yacht charter, be sure to anchor at nearby Türkbükü Bay for a taste of the “Saint-Tropez of Turkey" and dance under a canopy of stars. Cruise further afield and you’ll reach the olive-grove covered Datça Peninsula , as well as the Dalyan- Ekincik Bay, revered for its windsurfing opportunities. Surrounded by the Mediterranean , Aegean , Marmara , and Black Seas , it should come as no surprise that Turkey is home to a vast array of world-class marinas perfect for gulet or yacht chartering. It should be noted that whilst the Black Sea is replete with deep valleys, verdant mountains, and crater lakes, it does not usually feature on a typical yacht itinerary. That’s largely down to its wetter and colder climate, leading to few well-developed marinas. As a result, it does not feature in our list below. - Setur Finike marina: situated in the stunning historic city of Finike, with a 320 slip capacity.

This is usually payable once the contract has been signed Turkey is an increasingly popular superyacht destination, so yacht charter guests can rest assured that they will have boundless vessel options which will meet their budget criteria. Whatever type of vessel you ultimately choose, one thing to keep track of are the additional costs not included in the yacht charter base rate. For example, VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). This is usually 30% of the charter fee, and paid in advance. The APA covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests. However, gulet charters usually have lower APAs. For personalized advice please consult your yacht charter broker. Not sure whether to pick a motor yacht, sailing yacht or gulet? Browse our site according to your chosen dates, number of guests, yacht type, features, and preferred onboard toys and we'll show you what's available and within your budget. If you make a subsequent enquiry, a yacht charter broker will get in contact to provide you with a bespoke charter proposal. Alternatively, get in touch with your yacht charter broker directly and they can research the best yacht for you in line with your requirements. The vast majority of yacht charters commence in southwest Turkey, with the most popular superyacht locations being Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, Göcek and Antalya. Unlike many yacht charter destinations, you also have the option of a gulet charter in Turkey. It is well worth considering if it may be right for you. Benefits include lower APA costs and considerably wide decks onboard to lap up turquoise-tinged panoramas that surround you. However, capped fuel limits and air conditioning times are common to gulet yacht charters. Yes, it is possible to visit Greece on a luxury Turkey yacht charter. However, additional VAT and fees may apply if venturing outside Turkish waters. It is also worth noting that for convenience, it can often be better to visit Turkey and then Greece or vice versa, rather than zig-zag between the two. That's because you will need to provide documentation every time you cross borders which can be time-consuming. For precise details regarding fees and routes to Greece, consult your charter broker.
