Located in Fairhope, Alabama, along the picturesque eastern shore of Mobile Bay, Fairhope Yacht Club has been a Mobile Bay institution since 1942.

Fairhope Yacht Club embodies rich maritime traditions dating back to our founding members. We welcome maritime enthusiasts of all ages. Our junior program is among the best along the gulf coast, with over one hundred members. We sponsor four high school sailing teams who compete in regattas along the coast and around the country. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor, a novice eager to learn, a junior sailor, or a cruiser, our facilities are designed to enrich every aspect of your yachting journey.

Beyond the water, our club provides a vibrant social hub where members can form lasting friendships and share their passion for the water. From excellent dining options overlooking Mobile Bay to lively social events, there’s always an opportunity to connect and unwind in our welcoming clubhouse.

We are blessed with a moderate climate, steady afternoon sea breezes and the most beautiful sunsets on the bay. Our generally laid-back lifestyle is occasionally punctuated with bursts of extreme intensity, usually right before the starting gun, or during a jubilee !

Small yatch club with an excellent restaurant and bar. Friendly yatchers and club staff. Restrooms could be a little cleaner.

About fyc sailing

FYC ACEDEMY

 Ford Yacht Club is partnered with Sail GI, a 501c3, that encourages and helps teach sailing and safe boating to members of FYC and Veterans and Active Duty members of the US Military. 

Classes are offered during the Summer months and include classroom and on the water activities

 Ford Yacht Club is home to the S2 7.9 Fleet #15. There are 10 boats in the area. Join us in helping the fleet grow! One design racing is some of the most competitive racing there is and this is a great boat to get started in!  

 FYC has a long tradition of big boat racing and offering both Spinnaker and Jib and Main races throughout the year. Come join us for good times racing your boat and sharing stories afterwards with your friends 

 These are a series of cruising races on most Sunday afternoons. Your handicap is given to you with a specific start time. Where you finish, is where you place. Only 1st place is awarded for each race. Cruising boats are encouraged, but all are welcome. Special classes are available for "Dacron Cruising Boats" and "Unlimited Race Boats.

Summer Sailing

Session 1: June 3rd – June 14th Session 2: June 17th – June 28th Session 3: July 8th – July 19th Session 4: July 22nd – August 2nd

Session A: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. Session B: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Camp Fees: Members $400. Non-members $450

Bay Buddy camp is hosted the 2nd week of each session listed above. It is only offered from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Bay Buddy camp fee: $225 for members $250 for non-members

Sailors ages 7-12 or high school sailors

Types of boats.

There are three classes used for instruction at FYC.

The Optimist is a small sailboat designed for learning to sail and raced until a sailor reaches their 13th birthday.  It is a singlehanded boat. The Optimist fleet learns points of sail, how to determine wind direction, sailing terminology and on the water safety. Children between the ages of 7-12 weighing up to 125 lbs. should register for this fleet.

The C420 is the boat used for high school and college sailing.  It is a double handed boat with a mainsail and a jib.  The 420 fleet will learn weather basics, on the water safety, points of sail and sail trim.  In addition, the 420 sailor will learn how to work in a skipper/crew team.  Sailors over 12 years old and over 105 lbs should register for this fleet.

The Feva is an up and coming youth class boat sailed double handed like a 420.

Children ages 5-7

Our Bay Buddies program is designed to introduce our smallest sailors to the yacht club, the beach, and sailing in a positive, playful environment.  Bay Buddies will swim, play beach games, throw cast nets, go for sailboat and powerboat rides with counselors while learning about our bay and all it has to offer.

Do I have to be a member of Fairhope Yacht Club?

NO, All interested sailors are welcome to attend.

How early should I sign up for Summer Sailing?

As early as possible, sessions sell out quickly.

Does FYC offer after camp care?

NO, a camper picked up more than 15 minutes after their session has ended will be charged a late pickup fee of $10.

What should my child bring to camp?

Your sailor needs:

• A US Coast guard approved life jacket in their size
• Closed toe shoes
• change of clothes
• bathing suit
• and a bag to keep their belongings organized.

What will my child learn during FYC Summer Camp?

New sailors are going to learn parts of the boat, sails, and rigging as well as basic knots, weather and safety.  They will be taught the fundamentals of sailing by US Sailing Certified coaches.

Adult sailing & powerboating

Sailing has been a tradition at Florida Yacht Club since its inception. Located on the banks of the St. Johns River, FYC plays host to nationally renowned regattas including the 2022 Thistle National Championships and the Annual Orange Peel Regatta. Whether you are new to sailing or want to improve your navigation and racing techniques, our U.S. Sailing Certified instructors can design the perfect program to meet your goals. Oue expert staff also offers comprehensive powerboating courses tailored specifically to your boating lifestyle and needs out on the water.

FYC FIRST SAIL

First Sail is a relaxed introduction to the FYC Adult Sailing Program and consists of a two hour cruise on the St. Johns River followed by a complimentary draft beer or wine at the Pirate's Den Bar. After your First Sail you will be eligible to continue your FYC sailing experience in classes (2 or more clients) or one-on-one private lessons. SAIL WITH JIMBO

Join Jimbo on the water for a low-stress, fun sailing opportunity. We can accommodate up to  4 Adults and/or Children per Session. $15.00 Per Person Available Dates Saturday’s, 11:00am - 1:00pm: January 6th, January 13th, January 20th, January 27th, February 10th, February 17th ,February 24th

PRIVATE LESSONS

A personal experience featuring informative and valuable time skippering and trimming. We will work around your schedule to get you on the water!  

POWERBOATING LESSONS

Looking for more experience driving a powerboat? With docking, safety and local navigational tips, our powerboating lessons are tailored to your specific needs out on the water.

Jimbo Cannon

Sailing program manager.

Jimbo Cannon has joined the Florida Yacht Club Sailing Program in an effort to build adult sailing in Northeast Florida and get the FYC membership enjoying all the St. Johns River has to offer. He is looking forward to working with everyone - beginner sailors to advanced racers and is passionate about sharing the sport of sailing which has been a major part of his life. Jimbo will also be assisting with the junior and high school teams. We are excited to have Jimbo at FYC to share his passion with our membership.
