Scenic announced the launch of the vessel in January 2016 and awarded the construction contract to the Uljanik Group based in Croatia. The vessel’s delivery was, however, delayed due to financial challenges faced by the Uljanik Group. In February 2019, DIV Group and Fincantieri came to the rescue of Uljanik Group by purchasing an interest in the company and, subsequently, led the construction of Scenic Eclipse.

The yacht was finally delivered in  August 2019, followed by a christening ceremony in September 2019. The shipbuilding contract also includes an option for a second ship to be delivered in 2020.

Scenic Eclipse ship embarked on her maiden voyage from Reykjavík to Quebec in August 2019, followed by discovery voyages to the Americas, Antarctica, Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as the Arctic and Norwegian Fjords.

Veranda suites are 32m² in size and offer a private veranda, separate bedroom and living area with floor-to-ceiling windows. It features a pillow menu, mini-bar, deluxe furnishing, HDTV and climate control.

At 38m², deluxe veranda suites are larger than veranda suites and feature larger bedroom and living areas.

Spa suites, located on decks eight and nine, are 48m² in size and have living and bedroom areas with luxury amenities. They feature spa baths and offer space to relax and views from the veranda.

Grand panorama suites are located on decks six and eight at the front of the yacht. At 56m², the suites offer curved verandas on deck six, and a veranda with 43m² terrace on deck eight.

This High-end Expedition Ship Has 2 Helicopters, a Submersible, and Butler Service

Here’s what it’s like to travel around the Mediterranean aboard Scenic Eclipse II, the newest high-end ship from the Australian cruise line Scenic.

The Staterooms

Bars and restaurants, shore excursions, amenities and entertainment, family-friendly offerings, accessibility.

The first thing I noticed about the Scenic Eclipse II is just how sleek the dark-hulled ship looked. Think mega yacht. No, think giga-yacht. At 551 feet, this is no small ship — even if, in the world of cruise lines, the Scenic Eclipse II rates as a rather intimate vessel, with a capacity of just 228 passengers.

Operated by the Australian brand that carved out a niche with luxury expedition vessels, this “discovery yacht” cuts the same gorgeous silhouette as its sibling, Scenic Eclipse , which debuted in 2019. Both ships also have all the hardware needed to operate in the polar regions, with an expedition crew to pull off adventures in places such as Antarctica.

But Scenic Eclipse II also represents an evolution: It has been tweaked with an eye to warm-weather destinations, such as the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Added on Deck 10 were plunge pools, sun loungers, and an indoor-outdoor Sky Bar. These features, the thinking goes, will be more in demand when the ship is in places like Southern Europe, say, where there’s less hard-core adventure and a more immersive shore-side experience.

To give it a try, I joined the Scenic Eclipse II for its christening journey in June 2023, traveling from Barcelona to Málaga, Spain, with stops along the way in the Balearic Islands. I was eager to compare the experience on this ship, in the bustling ports of Southern Europe, with the feel of the original, on which I had previously traveled to Antarctica.

The experiences were, as it turns out, starkly different. Unlike in the polar regions, where guests spend the lion’s share of their time on the ship, the Europe cruise took me to fascinating places on land: I spent most of my voyage on various city tours, visiting impressive sites like the prehistoric Talayotic villages in Menorca and the Botánico Biotecnológico, a high-tech botanical garden, in Ibiza.

One of the highlights of my particular sailing was the opportunity to chat with NASA astronaut Kathryn Sullivan, who was on board in her capacity as the ship’s godmother. She regaled us — passengers and crew — with tales of her career in space, her voyages on expedition cruises, and her descent into the Challenger Deep , the Pacific Ocean spot that’s more than 35,000 feet below sea level.

"There is one common thread of DNA that combines all these experiences: exploration and learning. That's has always been what motivates me," Sullivan said. "It's just the intense and pervasive curiosity about different places, about this planet. Who lives there? What critters live there? What's the landscape like?"

Truth be told, that same sense of adventure is what’s motivated me to hop aboard many expedition ships over the years. While this particular voyage through Spain lacked the feel of, say, an icebergs-and-penguins odyssey through Antarctica, I did appreciate being aboard a smaller ship during peak season in Europe. It was also a pleasure to return to the excellent restaurants on board — not to mention my spacious cabin — after a long day of touring on shore.

Here’s a closer look about what to expect when traveling on Scenic Eclipse II and my review of its staterooms, amenities, and more.

Scenic Eclipse II

  • With just 228 passengers — and a maximum of 200 in polar regions — Scenic Eclipse II offers an intimate experience.
  • Despite being small, the ship has 10 dining options, including high-end fine dining and casual spots.
  • All cabins have balconies and come with the services of a butler.
  • The ship has two helicopters and a submersible for heart-pumping adventures when conditions are right.

There are 114 balcony suites, and even entry-level options are attended by butlers. Even the smallest of the bunch, Verandah Suites, feel spacious, starting at 344 square feet. I particularly loved how roomy the bathroom felt — and how snazzy the black-and-white marble looked. All suites have king-size beds (that can be split into two twins) and high-end amenities including Dyson hair dryers.

Other cabin categories include Spa Suites (starting at 495 square feet), Panorama Suites (starting at 1,130 square feet), and Owner's Penthouse Suites (an astonishing 2,099 square feet). Spa Suites have the addition of a Philippe Starck–designed tub; the two Owner's Penthouse Suites on board have outdoor spa tubs on their sprawling terraces.

Scenic Eclipse II has an incredible array of delightful dining experiences — 10 in all. My favorites included the sushi bar, French restaurant Lumière, the adjacent Champagne bar, and Night Market @ Koko's, a venue with a rotating menu of regional cuisines, from the Middle East to India. I also loved the casual Azure Café, which serves lighter bites for breakfast and lunch, plus pizzas and pastas for dinner. Room service — which is available 24 hours a day — was also impressive. Finally, it's worth mentioning the gorgeous Scenic Lounge Bar, behind which is an illuminated display of rare whiskies, all available at no extra charge.

Where Scenic Eclipse II Sails

Where doesn't this ship sail? With Polar Class 6 rating, Scenic Eclipse II is capable of traveling to the Arctic and Antarctica but also spends time in warm-weather spots including the Pacific Islands and Southeast Asia, depending on the season. The ship also travels to familiar cruise destinations, including the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Because of the ship’s relatively small size, it can visit some ports that mega-ships aren’t able to.

On my sailing, included shore excursions were fairly typical: Guests had their choice of city walking tours, along with visits to major attractions, like historic sites and cultural centers. In some destinations, we had the option to tackle more adventurous excursions, such as snorkeling.

When the ship is in "discovery mode," on expedition in more remote locations, such as the Arctic and Antarctica, excursions are more dynamic — think boarding Zodiacs to make “wet landings” on shore or for scenic trips around icebergs. In many destinations, Scenic Eclipse II offers helicopter and submersible excursions for an additional fee, depending on local regulations and the weather. .

The most notable amenity on Scenic Eclipse II is the spa, which spans nearly 6,000 square feet and includes a thermal suite. I also spent plenty of enjoyable time on the sun deck, where there’s a plunge pool and the indoor-outdoor Sky Bar. As far as entertainment goes, you won’t find the over-the-top productions that you might see on mega-ships, but that’s part of being on an intimate expedition-style vessel. There is a small theater, though, and I enjoyed the evening shows put on by the talented singers aboard.

Children aged 12 and up are welcome, but my sense was that this isn't a particularly kid-friendly ship: There’s no kid’s club nor is there any sort of programming aimed specifically at tweens or teens. The right kind of kids might like these trips, but they’ll need to be willing to be, potentially, the only youngsters aboard.

There are no wheelchair-accessible cabins on Scenic Eclipse II , which does have elevator service between all decks. Scenic advises travelers to contact the company before booking to discuss any specific accessibility concerns. Worth a mention was one moment during my trip, when several other guests and I were transported by bus from our pre-embarkation hotel to the port: We were dropped off nowhere near the ship, and there were no Scenic staff on hand to guide us to the terminal's entrance. A few dozen of us, including some people with limited mobility, found it to be a fairly difficult experience.

The sell-out Mediterranean cruise mixing old and new destinations ‘perfectly’

The sell-out Mediterranean cruise mixing old and new destinations ‘perfectly’

I’ve never seen bubbles next to stripes on epaulets before, but then again I’ve never spent time talking to a submarine pilot on a mega yacht before either.

An underwater robot designer who designs ROVs (remote-operated vehicles) and loves to take the controls on a sub, Remy Izendooren clearly has a passion for what lies beneath the surface. Something he can now share with cruisers on our discovery yacht.

Scenic founder and chairman Glen Moroney says he was inspired to add ocean cruising to his river cruises and land tours when he saw a billionaire’s mega-yacht on Sydney Harbour. Seven years later Scenic Eclipse took to the water ready to give guests the full mega-yacht experience, complete with extravagant toys including a submarine for six and two sleek black helicopters.

Remy and fellow submarine pilot Antony Gilbert both worked on private yachts with their own submarines before joining the team on Scenic Eclipse and, judging by the way their eyes light up when they talk about their current sub, she’s something special.

Scenic Neptune, the ship’s U-Boat Worx Cruise Submarine 7, is capable of taking guests down 300m. That’s the depth of one upside down Eiffel Tower and enough to see a change in the sealife. Even though the sub could go further, the brakes automatically kick in at 305m, just to keep things on the safe side.

While luxury and submarine are two words that don’t often go together, here guests sit in airconditioned comfort in large, padded, swivelling leather seats for the best view from the two spheres on either side of the pilot.

• See also: First look: New mega-yacht stuns

• See also: Aussie ship the world’s been waiting for

Inside Scenic Neptune, Scenic Eclipe’s on-board submarine. Picture: Scenic

Remy says every dive is different. Where a helicopter will see the same buildings when it returns from somewhere, a submarine will see different wildlife. Dives can also be tailored for different guests including nervous first-timers who can take comfort in knowing the sub has more safety checks than a helicopter. It’s also programmed to return to the safety of the surface of the water if the pilot doesn’t do anything for 10 minutes.

Not surprisingly, Scenic Neptune is in high demand, with penthouse guests and top-tier loyalty members first in line. But sometimes it isn’t allowed out to play. The US refuses to issue permits to foreign-registered subs, which means as most of our cruise is in US waters there’s no chance to take our underwater seats. In other countries, Scenic works with ministries of environment and culture to secure the necessary dive permits to explore shipwrecks and reefs.

Fortunately on this Polar Class ship, Antarctica is among the places the sub can go out to explore and after following Remy’s Instagram I’m able to follow the adventure and see what those lucky guests see, with photos of alien looking jellyfish making me wish I could be there all the more.

The underwater world awaits. Picture: f-Stop Movies

On Scenic Eclipse almost everything is included in the fare, the exceptions being spa treatments, a small number of rare, fine and vintage wines, champagnes and spirits, and the two things that take you high above and below the ship. A 20-minute ride in the submarine costs $US250 (about $377) while the same time in the helicopter is $US475. You can also fly for up to 40 minutes for $US925.

While we may miss our chance to explore the depths, we are able to go to another level. When our spots on a helicopter ride are confirmed we have to face something that’s best avoided mid-cruise and step on a set of scales. Our weigh-ins are then discreetly recorded by staff and used to help decide who will sit where so that the helicopter is balanced properly for our flight.

I’ve flown in a helicopter before but stepping out on to the back of a yacht and into a sexy black chopper goes to No.1 with a bullet on my rock star helicopter moments.

Scenic Eclipse’s helicopters are super quiet. Picture: Scenic

Scenic Eclipse has two Airbus HI30 helicopters which, thanks to shielded rear rotors and automatic rotor speed control, are some of the quietest in the skies. Not only does it make for a more enjoyable ride, it’s also good news for wildlife and for guests relaxing on board. As we rise up over the ship and head for Martha’s Vineyard, pilot Bradley Brummett explains our helicopter also has automatic vibration damping systems, which are a bit like tuning forks under the floor that help cancel the vibrations out. Between the helicopter’s smooth ways and the Bose noise-cancelling headphones, the rotor blades sound more like soft thrumming than the loud rapid fire thuds of helicopters I’ve flown in before.

While every guest on-board has a chance to take a tender to Oak Bluffs and walk around houses that look like they’re straight out of a storybook, only those lucky enough to score a spot on the helicopter get to fly over mansions and lighthouses, and to see some of the island’s wild beaches and what’s on the other side.

Our flight takes us over the tiny town of Aquinnah, perched on beautiful clay cliffs, looks over fishermen tending to lobster pots, and gives us a glimpse of Martha’s Vineyard real estate from splashy mansions to more discreet millionaire hideaways.

As we head back out over the water I’m struck by just how sleek and stylish Scenic Eclipse looks from up here where we can admire her full-tiered deck effect.

A world of wonder

Over the last five years, the World’s First Discovery Yachts have ventured to more than 350 extraordinary destinations across all seven continents.

“Scenic Eclipse is just as at home moored alongside superyachts in Monaco as she is breaking ice less than 900 kilometres from the true North Pole. She is truly a ship for all regions and seasons,” Griffiths says.

And then there’s Antarctica. Scenic has defined ultra-luxury discovery voyages in the seventh continent. All-inclusive Discovery Excursions by Zodiac, kayak, and stand-up paddleboards to enjoy penguin, whale and seal sightings, flyovers of the staggering McMurdo Dry Valleys and submersible dives beneath the seas of South Georgia are just some of the experiences offered on a Scenic Eclipse Expedition Voyage.

“We’re the pioneers in polar exploration . The itineraries we’ve developed in Antarctica and the Arctic region are very conducive to discovery and exploration.”

Jason Flesher, Director of Discovery Operations

The future of discovery

The five-year journey of Scenic Eclipse was celebrated in April 2024, when the Discovery Yacht paid its first-ever visit to Australia, where Scenic was founded in 1986. With new destinations on the horizon, including East Antarctica and the Ross Sea, the Baltics and the majestic rivers of Europe and the Americas, the Scenic team is committed to making the next five years and beyond even greater. “A Scenic Eclipse voyage means wonder in all aspects,” Senior Captain le Rouzic says. “It can be looking at what the planet has to offer, curiosity about our exceptional culinary experiences, meeting other guests and even meeting the crew.” The success of Scenic Eclipse’s first half-decade has also inspired Scenic Group to expand its sister brand Emerald Cruises on the oceans. In March 2022, their groundbreaking luxury yacht Emerald Azzurra welcomed her first guests, followed by Emerald Sakara a year later and a new super yacht Emerald Kaia on the horizon for 2026. The luxury yachts feature an open-air infinity pool, a wellness deck with a spa and gym, and a marina platform with a variety of water toys.

Emerald Kaia floats gracefully on the calm water, reflecting the serene surroundings.

Scenic Eclipse 2 Review

Review of scenic eclipse 2.

The 2023-built Scenic Eclipse 2 cruise ship is Croatia ( Rijeka )-built superyacht. The same-designed sistership Scenic Eclipse 1 was inaugurated in 2019.

The vessel (IMO number 9850460) is currently Bahamas- flagged (MMSI 238269640) and registered in Nassau . Curiously, during its construction, the vessel was Croatia-flagged and named "NOVOGRADNJA 101" (MMSI 238269640) and "BRIONI" (MMSI 238000000).

This is a top-luxury superyacht with max passenger capacity 228 (plus 192 staff-crew) and a 10-deck design, more resembling a billionaire yacht than a passenger ship. The ultra-modern design features an ice-strengthened hull, top-deck helipad (with two on-deck stored helicopters / in hangars), 12x Zodiacs (high-speed, large-capacity RIBs / rigid inflatable boats), 1x submersible (9-person mini-submarine/model "Triton 660-9 AVA"), 1x ROV (camera-equipped Remotely Operated Vehicle). The aft-located Marina Platform is used for launching water sports equipment (aqua quad-bikes, seakayaks, snorkeling and scuba diving activities).

Scenic Eclipse II cruise ship

With the top-luxury expedition superyachts Eclipse 1 and Eclipse 2, Scenic Cruises and Tours (1987-founded river cruisetour company) entered the ocean-cruising market. The first boat (Eclipse 1) was launched in August 2018 and inaugurated in September 2019. The second vessel (Eclipse II) was scheduled for inauguration in 2020 but postponed to 2022-Q3 and eventually, to 2023 (April).

Besides Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours, the shipowner Scenic Group also owns the subsidiary and travel brand Emerald Cruises .

Scenic Cruises yacht design

Scenic's new ships are advertised as "discovery yachts". The hull has the highest passenger ship ice-class (1A-Super) allowing the vessel to operate on polar cruises (Arctic and Antarctica itineraries) for 3 months a year. On polar voyages, the ship's passenger capacity is limited to 200 in order to allow several Zodiac landings per day.

Scenic Cruises yacht submarine

The ship's 2 helicopters Airbus H130 (single-engine aircraft, each with capacity 7 passengers) can be booked/hired at extra charge. Helicopter tours allow passengers to get closer to the wildlife in comparison to the Zodiac landings. Also at an additional charge can be booked the ship's Triton submarine. The 9-person submarine (1 pilot plus 8 passengers) is named "Scenic Neptune" and is capable to submerge up to 660 ft (200 m).

Decks and Cabins

Scenic Eclipse 2 staterooms (114 total) are all double-occupancy Suites in total 14 categories. Cabin sizes range between 345 ft2 / 32 m2 (Veranda Suite) to 2745 ft2 / 255 m2 (2-Bedroom Penthouse Suite, with included 645 ft2 / 60 m2 wraparound terrace). Owners Penthouse Suites are sized 1990 ft2 / 185 m2 (balcony included). Each cabin has a private step-out balcony. The vessel has an almost 1:1 passenger-to-crew ratio and each stateroom are served by a dedicated butler.

The boat has 10 decks , of which 8 are passenger-accessible and 5 with cabins.

Four Lifts (midship-located Elevators) interconnect all cabin decks.

Shipboard facilities

  • four bars and lounges
  • 240-seat Theater Lounge
  • 2 (indoor and outdoor) swimming pools
  • heated pool (indoor, with retractable glass roof)

Senses SPA (5900 ft2 / 550 m2) is the wellness complex with a heated indoor pool, outdoor Jacuzzies, plunge pools (temperature-controlled), treatment rooms (for massages), male and female areas, Hair Salon, Nail Studio (manicure/pedicure), Sauna Rooms, Steam Rooms, an outdoor terrace (with padded loungers), Aerobics Studio (for Yoga and Pilates), Gym (fitted with premium-brand fitness equipment). In comparison to Eclipse 1, Eclipse 2's steam room area is larger/expanded and features an aromatherapy room, ice fountain, experience showers (water at different temperatures and intensities, a KLAFS salt therapy lounge (with infrared chairs/color light therapy).

In comparison to Scenic Eclipse 1, Scenic Eclipse 2's swimming pool and sundeck (Deck 10) are larger-sized. There is also a new poolside bar (with indoor-outdoor seating) and the swimming pool is oval-shaped.

Scenic yacht cruise deals are inclusive of butler service (regardless of cabin category), flights, all tips/gratuities, Discovery Team leaders (professional tour guides on all cruise itineraries), shore excursions (all land tours and organized events at ports of call and beaches along the itinerary route, expert-led Scenic Free choice activities, discovery excursions by Zodiacs / large-capacity inflatable boats), onboard dining (all dining venues are complimentary / fee-free), onboard entertainment, e-biking, water sports (sea kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving), premium beverages (at bars and cabin mini-bars).

The ship has "zero speed stabilizer fins" (50% larger than typical on a similar-sized vessel) allowing it to navigate in rough seas with just little movement. Voyages to Antarctica include passing Drake Passage - a notoriously rough waterway between South America and Antarctica.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Scenic Eclipse 2 cruise ship offers all 9 dining venues plus 24-hour room service. The ship also has an impressive number of bars and lounges - 8, which is an extraordinary variety considering the vessel's size. All these options are complimentary (cruise price inclusive).

Scenic Eclipse II cruise ship

Specialty dining venues highlight regional cuisine, intimate deck location and dinner privacy at no additional cost. These venues range from the open-kitchen Teppanyaki grill dining (capacity 10 people) to the Chef's Table (private VIP dining for 8 people). Professional cookery demonstrations are offered at the dedicated Chef's Garden @ Epicure (cooking emporium). Chef's Garden At Epicure is a new dining and presentation venue with max capacity 14 standing or 7 seated guests. At the Epicure are also hosted culinary classes (like chocolate-making) and whiskey-tasting courses.

The main dining room restaurant "Elements" offers Italian fare, seafood, and steaks. The other restaurants are named Koko's (Asian, with sake bar), Sushi at Koko's (authentic Japanese), Lumiere (French, with Champagne Bar). The Yacht Club has its own a bar, buffet and poolside grill. Azure Bar & Cafe offers all-day relaxed grazing.

Bars and lounges include Lobby Lounge, Champagne Bar, Azure Bar & Cafe. Fine wine, top-shelf beverages, cocktails, specialty teas, and coffees are all included in Scenic Cruises' ticket prices.

Scenic Eclipse 2 Wiki

The Malta- flagged vessel Scenic Eclipse II (IMO number 9850460) was designed with the latest technological advancements in order to ensure the highest safety standards. It has custom-built fin stabilizers (50% bigger than on other vessels with similar GT tonnage) and an ice-strengthened hull.

The yacht's state-of-the-art fins are able to adjust themselves, enabling the boat to handle the strongest water currents and to remain stable. Unlike other ships that use traditional anchors, Scenic's mega-yachts are fitted with a dynamic positioning system. It uses GPS data to accurately maintain the ship's position - an eco-friendly way to control the vessel. The other environmentally sustainable systems implemented are efficient marine engines and advanced water treatment system.

The ship's integrated navigation and automation/control system was provided by the company Kongsberg Maritime. This modern technology combines the following systems - Navigation, Dynamic Positioning, automation, Emergency Shutdown, Power Management, Safety Management, and Control. The system is integrated with online diagnostics and remote service facilities.

Both vessels operated by Scenic Yacht Cruises are owned by Scenic Group and Croatia-built - Eclipse 1 in Pula (Uljanik Shipyard), Eclipse 2 in Rijeka (3 Maj Shipyard). Eclipse 2 yacht's construction officially started on April 24, 2020, with the steel-cutting ceremony held at Rijeka's 3 Maj Shipyard (Treci Maj Brodogradiliste).

With Eclipse 2, Scenic Group established a new fully-owned subsidiary company (MKM Yachts) that manages newbuilds' construction. In late-April 2020 Scenic Group also announced plans to build in Croatia 5x new superyachts in the next 6 years. For these shipbuilding projects was dedicated a separate section at Rijeka's Maj 3 Shipyard. In early-July 2020, MKM Yachts was granted a sub-concession at Rijeka's shipyard. This way, the company became the prime contractor for all Scenic Group's newbuilds.

In August 2020, Scenic Group (shipowner) contracted Viking Crew (part of the Dover UK -based Viking Maritime Group Ltd) as the vessel's crew managing company. Viking Crew is responsible for the Scenic Eclipse 2 yacht's crew recruitment, management, deployment and placement, including officers and staff-crew from the onboard Engine, Hotel and Deck departments. Viking Crew was also contracted for the crew management of the superyachts Scenic Eclipse 1 (2019) and Emerald Azzurra (2021).

The vessel's construction officially started with the keel-laying ceremony held on May 12, 2021, at Rijeka's Maj 3 Shipyard. The special event was attended by Glen Moroney (Scenic Group's founder, owner and Chairman), Andrej Plenkovic (Croatia's Prime Minister), Tomislav Coric (Croatia's Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development) and Oleg Butkovic (Croatia's Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure).

The superyacht was launched/floated out from drydock on June 25, 2022. The ceremony was attended by Glen Moroney.

In December 2022, Anna Wolfsteiner (Scenic Group's Chief Sales & Marketing Officer) announced the name of the ship's godmother - Kathryn Dwyer Sullivan (1951-born American scientist/geologist and oceanographer, and a former US Navy officer and NASA astronaut).

The Adriatic Sea trials were in two phases and successfully conducted in February-March 2023. The superyacht was officially delivered on April 6, 2023, when it left the Croatian shipyard. The delivery ceremony was attended by VIP guests like Andrej Plenkovic (Croatia's Prime Minister), Sasa Cokljat (Managing Director MKM Yachts), Glen Moroney (Scenic Group's Owner, Founder and Chairman). In April 6-13th started the relocation voyage around Italy (from Rijeka to Lisbon) from where started the 11-day Maiden Voyage ("Incredible Iberian Discovery" itinerary, Lisbon to Barcelona).

Scenic Eclipse II's christening ceremony was on June 3, 2023, held dockside in Port Malaga (Spain) during the 10-day voyage from Barcelona to Lisbon. The official naming ceremony was led by godmother Kathryn Sullivan and attended by Glen Moroney, travel industry professionals, media representatives, VIP guests (Dutch dignitaries and government officials) as well as the current voyage's passengers.

The following YouTube video is a timelapse of the Scenic yachts construction process.

In late-September 2021 Scenic Group contracted Triton Submarines for the construction of a new-design submersible for the Eclipse 2 yacht.

  • The Scenic-Triton deal was for the construction of one submarine (model "Triton 660-9 AVA". The submersible has max capacity 8 passengers (plus the pilot), max operating depth 200 m (660 ft), patented hull design (elliptically shaped,metallic-acrylic).
  • The long-term agreement was signed by Rob Voss (Scenic Group's COO) and Patrick Lahey (Triton Submarines' President).
  • The Vero Beach Florida-based Triton Submarines specializes in designing and manufacturing of commercial and privately-owned submersibles. These vessels are usually used for scientific researches, filming, as well as equipment for private superyachts and smaller-sized cruise ships. The company has a fully-owned subsidiary in Barcelona Spain (Triton Submarines EMEA).
  • In 2017, Triton started (via partnership with Aston Martin) the ultra-luxury submarine project "Neptune". The new model "Triton 1650-3 Low Profile" mini-sub was designed after Aston Martin's Valkyrie (aka "Nebula"/limited production hybrid sports car) and features improved hydrodynamics and more powerful propulsion system/thrusters.

In January 2022, Scenic Group contracted De Wave Group (global contractor for cruise ships and superyacht interiors) for Eclipse 2's outfitting. By the contract, De Wave Group provided and installed all the 114 staterooms (including cabin bathrooms), passenger decks' hallways/corridors, all crew deck areas (including crew cabins and hallways), all dining venues, catering areas and storage rooms (galleys/kitchens, cold rooms).
