Landyachtz Longboards

Landyachtz has emerged as one of the most accomplished skateboard manufacturer in the world, regularly topping lists of the top longboard brands and the most sought-after longboards for riders.

Their extensive line makes it a great option for skaters of all experience levels and desires. We’ve got to recommend for their stellar downhill longboards, though. Impressive stuff.

About Landyachtz

Landyachtz produced their first board before the turn of the millennium. Born in the mountains of North Vancouver, there was a clear demand for a more durable (and faster) solution to tackle those downhill routes. As with most successful companies born out of necessity, they had no idea where the road would take them: to new heights and, of course, new slopes.

The results are clear. Landyachtz has gone from just the basics to producing some of the most sought-after sets and individual completes around. They were one of the longboard brands that pioneered the technical spec’s we take for granted now. The lesson? It’s not just trucks and wheels. It’s the total package. That’s why they focus so much on completes.

What Makes Them Different: One Board One Tree

The math is simple: Landyachtz plants a tree for every board they sell.

Longboarders are a rad community: we give mad respect to the brands that give back. Many longboarding brands use recycled material in their decks. We’re glad to see Landyachtz taking a stand and putting something back in the ground.

Every maple tree that gets planted is enough wood to produce 60 longboards in the future. Growing the longboarding community one tree at a time! They also partner with multiple charities that focus on deforestation and vegetation. It’s a truly great way to give back.

PRE-CURED FIBERGLASS Fiberglass is a lightweight yet extremely resilient material, used to either add extra stiffness to a solid maple board, or replace some maple plys and provide a snappy flex to a thinner flexy board.

ROCKER Rocker provides a more comfortable foot platform by adjusting the deck angles to a skater’s natural stance. It also adds board control and increases responsiveness under your feet.

Fenders Also known as pressed wheel wells, flares are part of the board shape. The resulting bumps in the concave on top allow for larger wheels, looser trucks, and provide better control and more precise foot placement.

• Tent space – 10×10 – ( Now accepting applications for waitlist )

What is Required?

• Minimum 12-month commitment. We are not currently set up to accommodate “pop-up” or short term vendors.
• You are required to vend every weekend; 10am-6pm Friday through Sunday.
• We cannot accommodate food vendors at the Marketplace other than pre-packaged specialty food for OFF premise consumption (so also nothing that would require refrigeration or warming on site).
• If tenant space, you must purchase the City-approved tent (EZ Up Eclipse – see the attachment for details; 4 sides are required as well – we recommend one be the mid-zip style). No push-carts or other similar type vehicles are permitted. The City does not provide tables or chairs.

Landyachtz was started by two childhood friends, Michael Perreten and Thomas Edstrand while attending University of Victoria. They set out making boards to have more fun travelling around the campus.    

“ We started making our own versions of skateboards as a way to have fun while travelling between classes. Riding around campus injected adventure and adrenaline into a moment that wasn’t normally exciting. The enjoyment of travelling on a skateboard was so great, that skateboarding became the destination .” – Tom Edstrand    

The first production run of boards was done in the Blackcomb Ski racing shed.   

“ We started looking for corners to navigate and hills to skate. Our view of the world had forever changed. We started to see our environment as an endless playground, full of possibilities .” – Mike Perreten    

Landyachtz moved to North Vancouver , at the foot of the coast mountains. First using family garage space, then to a shared space with snowboard manufacturer, Invasion snowboards.    

“ The products that were on the market in the late 90’s didn’t stand up to the forces we subjected them to. The steep and winding streets of our city begged us for bigger and better wheels, stronger and more responsive trucks ” – Tom    

While based in North Van, Landyachtz and their team were creating the spark for modern downhill freeride skating. Using what they learned through high level skating in demanding environments, Landyachtz developed Bear Trucks and Hawgs Wheels , pushing the industry to adopt a higher standard of skate gear than was available at the time. After outgrowing their manufacturing space in North Van, Landyachtz relocated to their current location in the Strathcona neighborhood of Vancouver.   

Over the past nearly 30 years , Landyachtz has established itself as a leader in a global community that pushes the boundaries of what is possible on a skateboard. The desire to evolve the sport of skateboarding led to other exciting forms of transportation.   

“Bicycles help us travel further, experience new terrain, and broaden our ability to discover. Self-propelled transportation is not only good for us, but good for the world. It requires no fuel and releases no pollutants into the air. The only by-products are a healthier life and a happier day”- Mike Perreten   

Landyachtz first started manufacturing bikes for city commuting . That quickly blossomed into building premium road bikes for longer commutes and rides. Shaped by the desire to further explore the environment propelled Landyachtz toward designing and building gravel bikes and hardtail mountain bikes .
