Displacement luxury yacht BROADWATER (ex.RASSELAS, TIME FOR US, HALCYON DAYS and RASSELAS) was built by Feadship in 1994 with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, and received an extensive refit in 2020 at the Royal Huisman facilities. She emerged with an increased stern length to 56m/184ft in addition to new decking, a new Jacuzzi, the installation of a day head on the sundeck and brand new interiors with upgrades to the A/V systems, navigation and communications. The naval architecture was by F. de Voogt, International Ship Design and Engineering B.V and the original traditional interiors by John Munford have since been replaced with a contemporary design. The accommodation sleeps a total of 12 guests, who have access to a main salon, skylounge and several dining areas indoors and outside.

Motor yacht BROADWATER has a steel hull, a traditional style interior designed by the celebrated John Munford, a sundeck Spa Pool and luxurious accommodation for up to 10 guests. She has a well appointed main saloon, dining areas and skylounge. The luxury motor yacht also has a good array of water toys and impressive electrical entertainment upgrades including a state of the art Crestron entertainment system throughout.

Guest Accommodation onboard BROADWATER for 12 charter guests. The master suite is on the main deck. The four guest staterooms are aft, all with queen size beds and large marble bathrooms. 1 VIP suite on the upper deck. In addition to the queen beds, the two after staterooms have additional single beds and Pullman berths.

Advertised by DMA Yachting, the majestic charter yacht BROADWATER is a 182 ft motor yacht featuring a hot tub. BROADWATER spends the winter season in the Bahamas. She was delivered by the ship builder Feadship in 2020. An elegant refit was finalized in 1994. The expansive yacht layout features 6 cozy cabins and comfortably accommodates a maximum of 12 guests.

BROADWATER is classified as a superyacht. The key part of the yacht, the aft deck, elegantly connects to the well-equipped and inviting main saloon. Bosun | Jean Niemann | South Africa Jean lives in a beach house in a coastal town in South Africa. Broadwater: A classic 1994 Feadship gets a 21st-century makeover

The refit of a 1994 Feadship propelled a pedigreed build into the 21st century. BOAT explores an intelligent redesign with artistic flair

It would be one of the most ambitious refit projects undertaken in recent years. The job was to transform the 52-metre, 1994-launched Feadship motor yacht (ex- Rasselas ), into a commercially compliant, contemporary 56-metre charter yacht – with an equally ambitious timeframe. It was shopped to both the Feadship and Royal Huisman shipyards.

The brief itself was substantial: refurbish the interior and create all new owners’ and crew quarters; extend the stern by four metres; design a new radar arch and sundeck; change the flag state; and bring the 25-year-old steel and aluminium build to commercial classification in time for the start of the summer 2020 Med charter season… in nine months’ time.

The project was the third in a series of high-profile Feadship refits visualised by the experienced American yacht owner Matt Voorhees, the most recent being the 2017 renovation of his previous 50-metre Feadship Broadwater (ex- Blue Moon ), which was preceded by the 1990-launched, 50-metre built as Mi Gaea .

While seated next to Feadship director and CEO Henk de Vries at a dinner for Feadship owners, Voorhees asked de Vries whether he should purchase Rasselas . “Henk told me it was a wonderful idea,” Voorhees says with a laugh.

Built to a design by Frits de Voogt with an interior by John Munford, Rasselas was delivered in 1994 as a Lloyd’s-classed yacht. “The first Rasselas was the first Feadship build I was really involved in,” recalls de Vries. “There is this family of yachts inspired by John Munford, that began with Rasselas , that has now become almost extinct. Matt’s ultimate dream was to have a true classic yacht, and Rasselas is one of the finest classics.”

Inspired by the thought of reviving a classic build and creating a transitional interior – he found his second Feadship a bit too modern – Voorhees purchased Rasselas in late 2018 and gathered a team that included designer Adam Voorhees (no relation), Captain Jacob Ewing, Captain Mark Jones and project manager Peter Wilson of Marine Construction Management (MCM). Royal Huisman landed the project, and six months of planning and design ensued before the yacht moved to the Huisfit facility in Zaandam.

“The biggest philosophical change is the embrace of the outdoors,” says the owner, referencing the four-metre hull extension and transom redesign that expanded the aft deck and allowed for a beach club. This extension accommodates al fresco activities from dining and entertaining to watersports and ease of water access, but also houses the Hi-Fog fire system generator and technical equipment required for the yacht to be commercially compliant. Manoeuvrability also came into play, and the extension included a redesign of the centreline skeg, increase in rudder area and addition of two steel fins to the stern extension to facilitate more accurate close-quarter manoeuvring.

A stern extension of such magnitude necessitated a commensurate adjustment in the profile design. This was accomplished by replacing the original mast with a composite mast and carbon-fibre hardtop, to give the profile a more current, masculine feel. The previously inaccessible flat roof protecting the original bridge deck aft became part of the sundeck, which allowed for the addition of a dayhead and a completely redesigned lounge area fitted with a custom dining table, bar and large spa pool. Down on the new transom, the team installed a beach club fitted with a bar, seating and another dayhead. For the swim platform, the owner had a custom extendable staircase fitted so that guests could enter and exit the water via a stairway instead of a ladder.

As the demolition and stern extension progressed at Huisfit, designer Adam Voorhees began incorporating the revised interior, which he describes as crisp and transitional with hints of modern, artistic and sculptural eccentricities. “The starting point for Broadwater was simply to respect the pedigree of a classic Feadship while introducing modern technology and a more nuanced approach to comfortable, refined living on board,” he says. “We wanted to respect the yacht’s native architecture and bring in a little whimsy and excitement – particularly through the artwork.”

On the main deck, the heaviness of the original gentleman’s club-inspired interior was lightened. The original architecture was retained, but it was toned down to create a backdrop for the yacht’s new bespoke furnishings and notable artworks to shine. In fact, says Adam Voorhees, the collection of artwork itself served as the primary motivator for the design narrative, with influences ranging from classical French and Italian art deco to Indochine and mid-century Scandinavian. “Inherently, I couldn’t help but inject some Californian modernism as well,” says the West Coast-based designer. Freeform furniture and organic shapes create an atmosphere of casual movement within the main saloon and dining area, which draws inspiration from sculptor Alexander Calder in the form of an amoeba-like dining table, pebble hardware and a large wine cabinet.

Behind each carefully placed piece is a story, from the African chair Adam Voorhees found and had fixed with a butterfly joint, to the circular backgammon table marked with the owner’s favourite spots around the world and crafted by London-based artist Alexandra Llewellyn, or Nad, the stuffed goat who presides over the sky lounge. “Every experience on board is informed through pure expressions of natural materials,” says the designer. “From brushed rift European oak, open-grain black walnut and fumed eucalyptus, to richly patinated bronze and highly textural stones of serpeggiante and portoro.”

Yet, unlike many other intricately designed yachts that enter the charter market, Broadwater’s interior is not as delicate as this description may convey. Each piece is considered for durability, with robust indoor/outdoor textiles used throughout. Also vital for successful charter, the galley area retains its original footprint but was upgraded with all new surfaces and appliances. Chief steward Rebecca Kearl redesigned the pantry area, removing the dumb waiter servicing the main and bridge decks and overseeing the creation of dedicated glassware, china and tablescape decor storage that maximises every bit of space throughout the dining area and upper saloon one deck above.

Likewise, the lower deck crew quarters were given a full makeover and the owner made a substantial investment to bring them up to modern day standards with a new crew mess, laundry machines and galley equipment – everything required for superlative service. Bringing the 25-year-old yacht up to class meant significant updates to the navigation system. The bridge retains its original footprint but was upgraded with a state-of-the-art rhodium bridge package by RH Marine. Now 100 per cent electronic, it future-proofs the boat for any upgrades or new regulations.

Aft of the bridge, the captain’s cabin serves as a sixth cabin for guests (the captain would sleep in the crew quarters in this scenario) while to port the area where the rescue tender used to be stowed is now an al fresco spa/gym with curtains that extend from the gantries for privacy. The new SOLAS rescue tender now resides on the bow with the Jet Skis, while a second tender is towed. The only interior space that was completely gutted and rebuilt was the main deck master suite, which now boasts modern functionality with double en suites and a glass shower, as well as plentiful wardrobes and storage.

The original starboard-side stairway leading to the guest quarters on the lower deck was retained, as was the foyer and the majority of the original John Munford styling and joinery. “It’s beautiful and it works,” says the owner. Everything in the four cabins was simply refreshed and restained, with new mirrors and replated hardware in the guest en suites as necessary. The only new additions were wool felt wall panels in each cabin, created by a Finnish artist, that serve to tie in the whimsical and artistic nature of the rest of the vessel.

Al fresco areas higher up the boat haven’t been forgotten, and the original bridge deck aft was updated with new teak decking and furniture. Pillars of alcohol gel flames atop base mounts create quite the scene at night. Here the owner also incorporated a winter garden inspired by the Feadship Sea Owl .

As with any refit, not everything went entirely as planned – in this case the challenge of bringing a 25-year-old yacht up to class, coupled with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic caused understandable delays. “ Broadwater quickly became all-consuming,” says Peter Wilson of the 14-month conversion. “I knew from the start it was going to be challenging in the original timeframe, but delays due to the Covid-19 crisis meant we had to push back the original schedule. Thankfully we had an engaged and experienced owner and a very focused designer.”

“In spite of, and because of, these challenges, the Broadwater refit is an important milestone for Huisfit and is the result of the work of an exceptional owner, designer, crew and project management team,” says Huisfit CEO Jan Timmerman. “Thanks to her visionary owner, Broadwater will be future-proof for many years to come.”

The owner joined Broadwater in Fort Lauderdale for an extended Thanksgiving cruise in November 2020. Despite the delays, he says, the result was worth the time and challenge. “There is a movement afoot of these lovely classics that people appreciate,” he says. “People understand the quality and pedigree. This classic, lovely boat deserves another several productive and stylish generations on the water – and that’s what we are giving her.”

This is his 6th year in yachting and he is close to completing his officer ticket. Jean is always up for an unexpected adventure and a laugh and he enjoys taking guests out for watersports and sunset cruises. He is also the resident karaoke king! Lead Deckhand | Elani Botes | South Africa Elani worked as a Sports Psychologist before starting her yachting career. She has completed her OOW and is now working towards her Master's license. Elani’s enthusiastic and passionate personality ensures the guest's experience is the most memorable, whether it's a water sport, beach, or excursion day. Deckhand | Will Clifford | United Kingdom Will joined yachting after studying English Literature in London. He always loved the water and knew it was a great industry to join where he could meet new people on a day-to-day basis. Will enjoys running, putting his degree to good use, and reading when he has free time. Will’s great optimistic nature is a great start to your day. Chef | Jesper Weseman | Amsterdam, Netherlands Prior to yachting, Jasper was working in Michelin star restaurants when the opportunity came up to work on a superyacht and he has not looked back since. Jasper enjoys the rotation of different guests so he can present his diverse skills. He loves producing excellent food from different markets around the world. Jasper is dedicated to making sure guests have a five-star unique experience on Broadwater. Chief Engineer | Scott Butler | Durban, South Africa Scott worked as a diesel mechanic for Caterpillar in South Africa and began working on oil rigs before joining his first yacht. His favorite part of his job is the challenges he is presented with and subsequently finding solutions for them. Scott has been with Broadwater for six years and his strive for safety ensures the vessel is always performing to its optimal standard. Chief Engineer | Will Smith | Southmead, UK Will worked on cruise ships for several years until he transitioned into yachting. He loves the variety of work, constant learning and being able to travel to extraordinary places. Will has been with the Broadwater program for three years now and is currently working towards his class 1 unlimited engineering license. He is outstanding at making sure everything is running smoothly and safely. Second Engineer | Sandro Rodriguez Perez | Spessart, Germany German Sandro comes from a Navy background where he worked as Cadet and graduated as a ship mechanic in 2017. He then sailed across from Panama to NZ on a 15m sailboat which grew his attraction even more for the yachting industry. Sandro wants to progress up the engineering ladder and is proud to be a part of the Broadwater crew. He looks forward to welcoming guests onboard and ensuring their stay is pleasant.

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). Med - Spain/Balearics and winter season in Caribbean Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Caribbean Leewards, Caribbean Windwards. It was built by Feadship in 2000. A refit was done in 2017. The yacht layout features 6 cabins and accommodates 12 guests. The cabin arrangement is following: 5 king cabins, 1 queen cabin, 2 pullman cabins.

MARK JONES | CAPTAIN (ROTATIONAL) | BRITISH From Wales in the United Kingdom, Mark has been a keen sailor since the age of 7. Having been a member of the Royal National Life Boat Institute for 3 years, he gained experience in boat handling and working under pressure. Mark has worked his way up in the yachting industry since 2007, crewing on large 252ft, 200ft and 180ft yachts, acquiring much private and charter experience. He has gathered vast yacht location berth and anchorage knowledge, including, but not limited to the Black Sea, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Adriatic Sea. Mark completed his MCA 3000gt Master license in 2016. He has been a part of the BROADWATER program since 2014 and this is his third vessel with the owner. He loves all things pertaining to the sea and will ensure that your time spent partaking in seafaring activities is thoroughly entertaining and safe. When Mark isn’t overseeing your flawless experience, you can find him at home in North Carolina with his wife, daughter and son. BEN POLLON | CAPTAIN (ROTATIONAL) | AMERICAN Ben grew up in the Turks and Caicos Islands and has been around the water his entire life. At a young age his family lived on a sailboat and after going shore based they continued to be avid boaters. When he eventually left the islands he immersed himself in the South Florida marine industry and took over his father’s yacht repair business in Fort Lauderdale. He then made the move to professional yachting over 11 years ago and found it to be the perfect combination of his skill set and passion for the ocean. Ben has commanded vessels of varying sizes and has a plethora of charter and navigational experience including the Cocos Islands, the Galapagos, the Marquesas Islands, Polynesia, New Zealand and Indonesia. Ben has cruised over 130,000NM and has completed 12 Atlantic crossings and 3 Pacific crossings. He always enjoys exploring new destinations and showing guests something they haven’t before seen or experienced. He is thrilled to join the BROADWATER team and provide your clients with the charter of a lifetime. ROBERT DEMPSTER | FIRST OFFICER (ROTATIONAL) | BRITISH Rob was born in Southampton, U.K. but grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. Soon after Rob was born in Southampton, U.K. but grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. Soon after finishing primary school in Sydney, his family moved to Singapore. Rob’s parents have always enjoyed a nomadic lifestyle by traveling the world. Rob graduated from St. Luke’s Grammar School in 2007, and spent the next three years working at Virgin Active Health Club in Sales & Operations Management. He completed a two year traineeship at the Superyacht Crew Academy in Sydney gaining both Australian (AMSA) and MCA Maritime Qualifications. He also managed the company’s Sailing Yacht Charter side of the business. While completing a gap year backpacking around the world, Rob visited some friends in Cannes, France where he discovered yachting, and joined the industry in 2012. He loves the challenge of delivering exceptional service all and doing water sport activities with the guests. Rob has a contagious, cheeky smile and will be the first one to get you amped to do activities! MATTHEW ORCHARD | FIRST OFFICER (ROTATIONAL) | BRITISH Matt grew up on the beaches of Cornwall, swimming and surfing from an early age. He was a life guard for 7 seasons and after school studied Economics at the University of Swansea. He spent many holidays on surf trips in some incredible places, such as Mexico, Hawaii, Indonesia, Australia, NZ, France and Spain. Matt’s love for driving boats and being in the water, combined with his desire to travel, led him to join the yachting industry at the age of 25. He did his OOW in May 2017 and is working towards his Chief Mate. Matt has his PADI open water and when he isn’t surfing, he enjoys swimming, cycling and running. SCOTT BUTLER | CHIEF ENGINEER (ROTATIONAL) | SOUTH AFRICAN Scott is from Durban, South Africa. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Caterpillar in South Africa and then began working on an oil rig before joining his first yacht at the age of 21. He started in the industry as a deckhand prior to transitioning into his true passion of engineering. His favorite part of his job is the challenges he is presented with and subsequently finding solutions for them. Scott recently purchased an equestrian farm in South Africa and he enjoys spending his time away there as well as free diving and spear fishing. THEO SMIT | CHIEF ENGINEER (ROTATIONAL) | SOUTH AFRICAN Theo was born and raised surrounded by the breathtaking natural scenery that is Cape Town, South Africa. His strong love for the outdoors landed him a position as an adventure tour guide throughout the whole of Africa, showing tourists everything from the Namib Desert to Zambia’s Victoria Falls. In 2009 Theo embarked on a new adventure on the sea and his engineering and travel skills married happily with his transition to the world of yachting. Theo has been trained by a number of the best engineers the industry has to offer and recently achieved his Chief Engineer (Y3) License. When he isn’t working (which is rare!) you can find him exploring the outdoors, hiking, watching sports and spending time with his family in South Africa. DOMINIC ANDREW | SECOND ENGINEER | BRITISH Dominic grew up in the South of England. Born in South West London, then moving to the New Forest at the age of 10. Due to its location on the South Coast it wasn’t long before he set his sights on the sea. Joining sailing clubs soon after arriving and enjoying kayaking at the weekends on the Solent and down Beaulieu river. Dominic grew up to study to become a Marine Engineering Officer, holding his Class 4 EOOW Unlimited license. Having trained in the Merchant Navy upon Cruise Liners and LPG Gas tankers, and undergoing relentless studies and exams, he has now embarked on a career in the yachting world and is excited to be a part of the Broadwater Team. GJORGI MITEV | CHEF | MACEDONIAN Chef Gjorji was born and raised in Macedonia where his passion for all things food began. He studied Food Science and Technology and apprenticed in some of Macedonia’s finest hotels after which he opened his own restaurant at the young age of 20 years old. Gjorgi then moved to St.Maarten where he met his wife and had a baby. During this time in St. Maarten, after being exposed to the industry in this yachting town and having a Brother who was already working on yachts, Chef Gjorgi began his career as a yacht chef. During his 8 year yachting career, he has continuously explored various cuisines while working alongside some amazing chefs in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Chef Gjorgi has served elite clientele both on land and on luxury sailing and motor yachts. REBECCA KEARL | CHIEF STEWARDESS (ROTATIONAL) | AMERICAN Rebecca was born and raised in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Colorado, Boulder and spent four years after university living and working in Argentina. Rebecca interned at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires in the Press and Events Department, as well as carried out a number of Personal Assistant roles during her time with the State Department. She moved back to the US five years ago to pursue a career in private service and attended Butler School in Denver with the intention of going into estate management, however, she was intrigued by the yachting industry and decided to try her hand at private service by sea. This is her tenth season in the industry and Rebecca’s outgoing personality, passion for service and love of travel keeps her enthusiasm for her job in full bloom. Rebecca is committed to exceeding guests’ expectations while enjoying all of the unique experiences, opportunities and challenges that the yachting industry has to offer. Her hobbies include learning languages, exercising, yoga, skateboarding, basketball and real estate. LEIGH-ANNE CAWOOD | CHIEF STEWARDESS (ROTATIONAL) | SOUTH AFRICAN Leigh-Anne is from Johannesburg, South Africa. She completed her Honors degree at University in Hospitality & Event Management where she gained a thorough knowledge of customer service, management, housekeeping and laundry skills which prepared her well for her venture in yachting. She has been with Broadwater from the very beginning and has worked her way to Chief Stewardess. Prior to yachting, Leigh-Anne was employed with a leading luxury tour operating company and during her time there her desire for travel and work increased immensely, hence securing her desire to set out for the USA and secure a position on a motor yacht as a Stewardess. Leigh-Anne loves to hike, travel and has a great love for the outdoors. GAYLAINE QUACH | THIRD STEWRDESS | CANADIAN Gaylaine, was born and raised in the metropolitan city of Toronto, Canada. At an early age, she discovered her love of travel as her large family would take road trips every summer; her highlight being Highway 101, touring down the West Coast of the USA. Having a love for the outdoors, Gaylaine enjoys skiing, kayaking and hiking. She is bilingual, speaking English and Cantonese. She worked as a lifeguard throughout high school and studied, Psychology and Anthropology in university. Longing for a change of scenery, Gaylaine moved to Antigua in 2013, where she attended medical school. Enticed by the surrounding waters and variety of yachts anchored in English Harbor, she decided to transition into the yachting industry where she has been able to explore more of the world. JANINE DAVIDSON | THIRD STEWARDESS | BRITISH Janine was born and raised in Cambridgeshire in the United Kingdom. At the young age of 18, once she had graduated from school, Janine pursued her love of travel and backpacked around Asia for over 6 months. Janine then settled back in the United Kingdom in West Hempstead where she worked as a housekeeper, this job proved as valuable experience that she brought with her when she joined the Yachting Industry just over 2 years ago. Janine enjoys meeting new people, being outdoors and hiking and looks forward to ensuring your stay on Broadwater is a memorable one. ANDREA BIO JIMENEZ | FORTH STEWARDESS | MEXICAN Andrea is from the West Coast of Mexico in a little town called Ensenada. Her Family made her an adventurer and fueled her hunger to see more of the world with their continuous travels around the world. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in architecture and after working three years in construction, she came across the yachting industry. She decided to give it a try using her hard work, her care for others and her enthusiasm for adventure. She enjoys ballet, fitness, off-road racing among others. She looks forward to welcoming you onboard Broadwater and showing you a wonderful experience. SAM MCGETTIGAN | BOSUN | NEW ZEALANDER Sam was born and raised in Napier on the East Coast of New Zealand. Sam grew up playing a lot of sports, predominantly rugby and surfing. He studied for 4 years at Victoria University and came out with Bachelor of Tourism Management and A Bachelor of Commerce Majoring in Marketing. Soon after Sam decided to join yachting and has been in the yachting industry for almost 4years and has enjoyed every minute of it and looks forward to welcoming guests onboard Broadwater. Sam loves all things outdoors and on the ocean. His favorite hobbies include surfing, traveling, playing the guitar, hiking, diving and fishing. MATT BURKITT | DECKHAND | AUSTRALIAN Matt was born and raised in the sunny Gold Coast, Australia. Living along the coast, he has spent most of his life around the oceans and beaches raising a passion for diving, water sports, traveling and health and fitness. Eager to travel and continue being surrounded by the ocean, Matt decided at the young age of 19 to pursue his career in the Yachting Industry where he has gained over 3 years’ experience thus far. Matt hopes to further his yachting studies and experiences to create a successful, long term career in the industry. Matt is excited to be a part of the Broadwater Crew and ensure that all guests onboard have the best vacation experience. JASCHA SANDLES | DECKHAND | AUSTRALIAN Born and raised minutes from the coast of Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Jascha developed a deep connection to the ocean spending as much time in and around it. Surfing, swimming, Sailing and exploring the vast coastlines have created a real passion for travel and adventure having explored many corners of the earth. Naturally yachting caught his attention as a means to continue that lifestyle while simultaneously creating a career. Ekosem-Agrar opens largest dairy facility in Siberia

In the presence of Andrey Travnikov, Governor of the Novosibirsk Oblast, the facility named "Elban" was officially opened after a construction period of about one year.

The facility includes six stalls for 1,000 dairy cows each, two large milking carousels for 72 cows each and a high-performance cooling system for 240 tons of milk.

At full capacity, Elban achieves a milk output of around 180 tons per day. Another smaller facility for 3,550 dairy cows is currently being built in the region. This will increase the number of dairy cows of the Group in the Novosibirsk region from around 12,900 today to around 17,000 by 2020.

By the end of 2019, the annual milk yield of the group is expected to rise to more than 800,000 tons.

The new facility will create around 170 new jobs. In total, the Siberian EkoNiva subsidiary now employs more than 1,000 people with three dairy farms and its other agricultural activities in the Novosibirsk region.

Stefan Dürr, CEO and main shareholder of Ekosem-Agrar, said, "The newly constructed facility in Novosibirsk is one of the world's largest and most modern dairy cow facilities. We are thus setting standards in terms of efficient milk production and can almost double our milk output in the region to approx. 400 tons per day.” ​
