88.5m explorer yacht 'Olivia O' relaunched after outfitting

By Katia Damborsky 20 January 2020
Built in Norway by commercial shipyard Ulstein Verf, the 88.5m/ 290ft motor yacht 'Olivia O' has been relaunched in Malta following extensive outfitting by Italian shipyard Palumbo.
Characterized by her distinctive reverse bow and rugged explorer-style profile, Olivia O is set to be one of the most exciting deliveries of 2020.
She was built by Norwegian yard Ulstein Verft, a shipbuilder that is better known for its commercial ferries and workboats.
The yacht underwent sea trials in August 2018. The bare hull was delivered shortly after, and taken to the Palumbo yard in Malta for painting, fairing and outfitting. She has since been relaunched from Palumbo's dry dock.
Benefits of the X-Bow
It is believed to be the first time that Ulstein Verft's trademarked X-bow has appeared on a superyacht. The innovative design has been developed for improved seakeeping by reducing pitching during high swells and piercing smaller waves, allowing for increased on-board comfort at faster speeds.
The 4,989 GT expedition yacht features exterior styling from Ulstein Verft in collaboration with esteemed designer Espen Oeino. On-deck highlights include a commercially-rated helipad, a 10-metre pool and a full-beam tender garage amidships that has been designed to be operational during inclement weather conditions.
On-deck highlights include a commercially-rated helipad, a 10-metre pool and a full-beam tender garage.
Her interiors have also been helmed by Espen, working with Droulers Architecture. Her interiors follow a Japanese theme, with plenty of wood, textures and pale colours. Oriental accents are offset by metal surfaces, giving her a polished finish.
It is not yet known whether Olivia O will become available for private yacht charters .

OLIVIA O Yacht – Extravagant $200 Million Superyacht

OLIVIA O yacht interior
No official photos of the interior of OLIVIA O have been released. The design project was conducted by Droulers Architecture , a studio from Milan that is owned by the two sisters Nathalie and Virginie.
They have worked on several superyachts and she was one of their largest. The vessel includes seven guest cabins that can host up to 14 guests.
A further 30 crew members find space in 15 cabins below the deck. The yacht has a large movie theatre, a gym as well as a beauty salon.
Specifications
The super yacht OLIVIA O is 88 meters (288 ft) long with a beam of 16.3 meters (53.6 ft) and a 5.1-meter (16.9 ft) draft.
Due to her high draft, she is not suitable for shallow waters but rather designed for exploration and more remote journeys. Her twin electric Rolls Royce engines allow her to cruise at a speed of 14 knots although her top speeds of 15 knots aren’t much higher.
With a volume of 4.989 tons, she is very heavy, especially when considering her length.
Ulstein is typically known for constructing vessels meant for the oil industry and OLIVIA O was the first superyacht they built.
To this day she remains the largest yacht constructed at their shipyard in Norway.
When looking at OLIVIA O her unusual exterior design is immediately noticeable. She features a so-called inverted bow (or x-bow) which her builders at Ulstein are known for.
This means that the furthest tip of the bow is not located at the top but rather on the bottom of the water line. Her bow is just one more feature that clearly identifies OLIVIA O as an explorer ship and much more than just a superyacht.
She carries several tenders and features a large helipad and of course a 10-meter swimming pool.
Her remarkable bridge offers almost 360° views and is reminiscent of an exploration vessel.
The exterior design of OLIVIA O was conducted by Espen Oeino who has worked on many other prominent yacht projects in the past.
The owner Offer paid a reported price of US $200 million. She generates US $15 to 20 million in annual running costs.

A 225-foot Russian navy ship was converted into a luxury superyacht named Olivia that's now on sale for nearly $27 million with Burgess Yachts .
The navy ship was first assembled in 1972 by Finnish maker Laivateollisuus to serve as a hydrographic surveying vessel for the Russian Navy. However, the ship found new life in 2011 when it was transformed into its new state as a luxury yacht with amenities like a 12-person jacuzzi and sun pads for comfortable lounging under the sun.
Olivia's transformation was completed by Rouvia Road Yacht Design and Construction and Droulers Architecture, focusing on both the interior and exterior of the ice-class navy ship.
The plush amenities and design aboard Olivia disguise, but pay homage, to the yacht's previous life. Take a look:
Olivia is powered by a 2,000 horsepower engine.
This gives the ship a top speed of 15 knots, about 17.3 miles-per-hour, and a cruising speed of 12 knots, about 13.8 miles-per-hour, according to Burgess Yachts.

Olivia also comes with retractable Rolls-Royce stabilizers.
According to Burgress Yachts, the interior has a "contemporary calm" look.

The ship also has accommodations for up to 26 crew members.

Autopsies reveal causes of death of two superyacht passengers killed when £30million Mike Lynch vessel sank in a thunderstorm off Sicily coast as authorities continue criminal probe into the tragedy

Autopsies have been carried out on two victims who drowned when the super yacht Bayesian sank last month in a freak storm with the loss of seven lives.
Tech billionaire Mike Lynch, 59, and his daughter Hannah, 18, who was due to start at Oxford University later this month were among those who died.
Mr Lynch's wife Angela Bacares, Hannah's mother, survived along with 14 others after the £30 million vessel sank off the coast of the Italian island of Sicily at Porticello near Palermo on August 19.
The first autopsies were carried out on lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda, and confirmed that they drowned, sources said on Monday.
There were 'no signs' of any other injuries and autopsies on the other victims will continue for the rest of the week alongside the judicial investigation.

All the victims were passengers except for the boat's cook Recaldo Thomas.
His body was the first to be recovered after the yacht sank.
Three crew members are currently under investigation in Italy for suspected multiple negligent manslaughter and causing a shipwreck, including captain James Cutfield.
Cutfield exercised his right to remain silent when questioned by prosecutors on Tuesday, his lawyers said.
They explained that he was 'worn out' and that they needed more time to build a defense case.
One of the Bayesian yacht survivors previously said the crew 'saved who we could' as the boat sank.
Matthew Griffiths was one of 22 people on board the Bayesian when it was devastated by a freak waterspout just a few hundred metres away from Porticello port in the early hours of August 19.
The 22-year-old, who was on watch duty on the night of the tragedy, told investigators that the crew members did everything they could to save those on board the Bayesian, according to comments reported by Italian news agency Ansa.
'I woke up the captain when the wind was at 20 knots (23 mph). He gave orders to wake everyone else,' Ansa quoted Griffiths as saying.
'The ship tilted and we were thrown into the water. Then we managed to get back up and tried to rescue those we could,' he added, describing the events of the fateful night, when the Bayesian had been anchored off the Sicilian port.
'We were walking on the walls (of the boat). We saved who we could, Cutfield also saved the little girl and her mother,' he said, referring to passenger Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter. In all there were 15 survivors of the wreck.

Chief engineer Tim Parker Eaton, 56, has insisted all 'doors and hatches were closed' on the doomed Bayesian ahead of a violent storm

Prosecutor Raffaele Cammarano said last week that the vessel was most likely hit by a 'downburst,' a very strong downward wind.
British engineer on doomed Bayesian superyacht insists to police all 'doors and hatches were closed'
However, the sinking has puzzled naval marine experts, who said a vessel like the Bayesian, built by Italian high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, should have withstood the storm and, in any case, should not have sunk as quickly as it did.
Prosecutors in the town of Termini Imerese, near Palermo, have said their investigation will take time, with the wreck yet to be salvaged from the sea.
They are currently investigating whether human error may have caused the disaster with claims that 'portholes and hatches' were left open which led to the ship being engulfed by water and sinking in just 16 minutes.
Chief engineer Tim Parker Eaton, 56, who is from the UK was also been named as one of the crew members who is under investigation.
Mr Parker Eaton, 56, has told prosecutors he followed procedures and made sure all was watertight as the storm engulfed the yacht.
According to excerpts from Mr Parker Eaton's statement, leaked to the Italian media, he insisted all doors and openings on the yacht were shut.

He said: 'I activated the generators and the hydraulic pump for the rudder.'
When asked crucially if all portholes and hatches, including where the yacht's tender was kept, were closed he replied: 'Everything was shut.
'The only thing open was the hatch to the engine room which from my point of view would not have caused the disaster because it was at the other end from where the yacht went down.'
Lynch, 59, had invited friends and family onto the boat to celebrate his recent acquittal in a huge US fraud case when the tragedy occurred earlier this month.
The 56-metre (185-foot) yacht was struck by a storm when it was anchored off Porticello, near Palermo, and sank within minutes.
The bodies of Lynch, his 18-year-old daughter Hannah and friends were recovered over the subsequent days in a major search operation.
Chief prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio, who is heading the investigation, has said his team will consider each possible element of responsibility including those of the captain, the crew, individuals in charge of supervision and the yacht's manufacturer.
Investigators are focusing on how a sailing vessel deemed 'unsinkable' by its manufacturer, Italian shipyard Perini Navi, sank while a nearby sailboat remained largely unscathed.
Prosecutors said the event was 'extremely rapid' and could have been a 'downburst' - a localized, powerful wind that descends from a thunderstorm and spreads out rapidly on hitting the ground.
