A huge split-level sun deck has a fully equipped bar, open-air dining, Teppanyaki grill and a flip-down TV beneath the hardtop and a very large versatile space aft for sun lounging, exercise or entertainment. Forward is a raised jacuzzi for eight guests, sunpads and more sun lounging space that doubles as a touch-and-go helipad.

The upper deck aft is another large entertainment space with open-air dining and buffet bar beneath the overhang and a sun lounge aft. Forward is a Portuguese bridge accessed via the upper deck lobby to starboard, with a dayhead to port, and there is tender and toy stowage on the foredeck with a deck crane for launching.

On the main deck aft is an aft-facing C-shaped sofa with sun lounge banquette aft and steps lead down either side to a spacious swim platform and a sea-level beach club with dayhead. From the main deck aft the starboard sidedeck leads to the main lobby where there is a dayhead. Balconies fold down port and starboard and doors open into the dining area of the main saloon to bring the outside in.

Large picture windows keep the main saloon bright. The large fully equipped bar aft is perfect for entertainment and lounge ideal for socialising and there is a formal dining area forward. The upper deck sky lounge has a media lounge forward facing a large bulkhead-mounted screen. Aft of that is a gaming table and a custom-made table football game themed on the yacht’s decor.

She welcomes 10 guests in five suites. The full-beam owner’s suite is forward on the main deck and features a folding balcony to starboard, a great place for a private breakfast. The en suite has a bath and shower, there are his-and-hers dressing rooms and a private office. The lower deck has two VIP double cabins with walk-in wardrobes and en suite with shower, and two double cabins, both en suite, one of the double cabins can convert into a twin configuration.

Twin 1,308hp MTU diesel engines give her a top speed of 14 knots, a cruising speed of 13 knots and a transatlantic range of 4,500nm with fin stabilisers keeping the passage comfortable.

winch design and burgess collaborate on project ace, described as "the perfect superyacht"

Winch Design and Burgess unveil 72m superyacht concept Project Ace

British studio Winch Design has collaborated with brokerage firm Burgess on a yacht concept known as Project Ace. Billed as "the perfect superyacht", the 72-metre is the culmination of feedback from yacht owners, crew, and shipyards from across northern Europe, Italy and Turkey. The result is a semi-custom platform with charter and resale appeal and several desirable leisure features, including a private owner's deck, an office that can convert into a nail bar and a 100-square-metre beach club and spa.

BOAT takes a closer look...

What is the perfect size for a superyacht?

72 metres, 1700gt, five decks.

"At a smaller size there are a large number of series or semi-custom build options available, which are dominating the market in that sector. At larger sizes, we find that our clients are often wanting to get more engaged in the development of the whole concept for the project so for this approach this really sat in a nice, sweet spot.

For example, if a client wants a traditional or plumb bow, or the elevator to also serve the lower deck cabins and beach club, this has already been considered and can be included, together with any other client-specific requests and customisation requirements." (Crispin Baynes, partner and sales broker at Burgess).

"72 metres is the perfect size to accommodate the features and square metres requested by the majority of clients. It’s also a manageable tonnage when it comes to regulatory complexity, whereby shipyards can offer a very competitive build time and a great level of customisation at an attractive price – all factors which are important in today’s market." (Jim Dixon, managing partner and creative director at Winch Design).

How has Winch Design's "signature yachts" influenced Project Ace's look?

"Both the exterior and interior design of Winch yachts have always been characterised by a 'signature', making them unique and instantly recognisable. Project Ace is no different. The design is pure, balanced, beautifully proportioned, and carries a 'blade' signature along her long aft superstructure lines, which enables an individualised exterior with different material and colour options. We hope this will appeal to not one, but a succession of multiple owners." (Jim Dixon, managing partner and creative director at Winch Design).

How many shipyards did you go to with this concept? How did their feedback inform the design?

"We discussed the design with a number of shipyards ranging from northern European, Italian and Turkish yards. In general, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Firstly, the design and technical platform proposed are feasible and in-line with their own design philosophies and secondly, the project aligns well with the requests and discussions that they are having with their own clients at the moment.

A couple of shipyards felt that a slightly larger version of the same design may suit their client base and Winch Design have been working on that. Watch this space." (Ed Beckett, senior partner and naval architect at Burgess)

What was the level of crew input given? How did their feedback inform the design?

"[Project Ace] was developed hand in glove with the Burgess Management team which is filled with ex-yacht crew, from captains and deck officers to engineers and interior crew. We drove the mantra hard that a yacht with a good operational setup will deliver a better experience for the guests on board.

Things which can easily be overlooked in favour of few additional square metres of guest interior have been driven into this project – appropriate crew numbers, flow of crew and provisions around the yacht, storage - and not just one large deck store but good functional storage distributed around the yacht. This is an absolutely fundamental part of creating a successful yacht." (Lucy Medd, partner head of crew services at Burgess).

Who else did you speak to?

"We sent the design to a number of our trusted clients who have experience chartering, owning and building their own yachts, or multiple yachts, with careful commercial considerations in their own designs.

Tips we garnered, that you only know from active yachting, ranged from window heights for seated views, to smart floor lighting at night, design-led accessibility options, guest pantries, hidden kids’ activity tables, a ship’s office that can convert to an occasional nail bar, flower fridges, beer taps, sauna and cold plunges, and bigger galleys for chef’s table or ‘kitchen party’ options. Which we baked back into the current go-to-market design package for Project Ace." (Crispin Baynes, partner and sales broker at Burgess).

How have you maximised Project Ace’s charter appeal?

"The layout of Project Ace places attention on the principal guest by offering a forward-facing master suite with 180 degree, floor-to-ceiling panoramic views. The "best in class" 100-square-metre waterside beach club and spa is also at the heart of any great charter experience, as is the 5.2-metre deck pool above. In fact, the entire aft area of the yacht is dedicated to relaxation, socialising and casual wellbeing. Another important feature is the central elevator which connects to main deck to the sundeck, allowing guests of all ages to connect easily from their cabins." (Jim Dixon, managing partner and creative director at Winch Design).

"Project Ace is also in a 'sweet spot', able to achieve a high volume of charters whilst also securing a very attractive charter rate versus annual running cost." (Ben Harwood, senior partner and head of charter at Burgess).

How have you maximised Project Ace’s resale value?

"The project has a fantastic design edge without being radical or too polarising in opinion and the features and functionality are top drawer for a project of this size. We have taken care to ensure that Project Ace has global appeal and that the design and layout isn’t skewed particularly towards one market.

Project Ace is not just a design that looks good – it comes with a huge amount of unique industry IP so it will work well too. This yacht is one that will be thoroughly enjoyed by the guests and the crew alike." (Ed Beckett, senior partner and naval architect at Burgess)

Inside the World of Mega Yachts — How the Super Rich Find Their Dream Boats

Why giga-yachts are the next big thing in the billionaires' playground.

The 242-foot 'Cloud 9' is priced at $95,709,000 and is also available for charter.

S uper-yachts, mega-yachts, giga-yachts — the billionaires’ play toys keep getting bigger and bigger, not to mention more costly.  Just ask Burgess Yachts head of sales director Richard Lambert. The dashing businessman, based in Monaco, made a swift visit through Houston on his way to the Miami Yacht Show  and shared his insights on the surprisingly burgeoning world of private yachting.

He noted that yacht charters already booked for the coming year, exceed 2018 bookings by 20 percent. With a stable of 750 yachts available for charter and 35 offered for sale, Burgess, which was founded in 1975, is one of, in not the, largest company of its kind worldwide. Count 13 offices globally and 200 employees.

Lambert allows that the United States is the firm’s largest market and that Dallas and Houston are strong. In fact, chartering and sale of the Houston-owned 190-foot   Lady Sheridan is handled through Burgess.

Dramatic interior design of the 'Lady Sheridan' was executed by the owner's talented wife.

Just how do the mega rich distinguish between these hyperbolic yacht descriptions, we asked. While there are no rules for describing these floating palaces, Lambert says that, generally speaking, a super-yacht measures in at nothing less than 100 feet, while mega-yachts stretch to 250 feet and the largest private vessels afloat, or the recently-coined giga-yachts , push the limits at 300 feet and well beyond.

Among those earning the Olympian status are the 593-foot Azzam , owned by the Emir of Abu Dhabi, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich’s 533-foot Eclipse,  and the Sultan of Oman’s 509-foot Al Said .

Of these immense yachts, Burgess recently sold the 361-foot Jubilee , originally built for the Emir of Qatar, which had an asking price of $310 million. This beauty boasts 16 guest cabins and a crew of 45. It was the most expensive vessel in Burgess’ portfolio which has offerings for lesser yachts that begin at $5 million.

Fallon B Bachendorfs

For those not interested in the pleasures of ownership but want to live large for a while, Burgess’ charters  range from $250,000 to $300,000 a week plus APA (or advance provisioning allowance) which includes fuel, food and drink, mooring and harbor fees as well as the recommended 10 percent tip.

Burgess: Celebrating 40 Years In The Superyacht Business

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]ntering its fifth decade in record-breaking style, Burgess celebrates its 40th anniversary this month. 2014 saw exceptional sales results with Burgess closing on three of the five largest yachts on the market and in total 42 yachts were sold over the year with a value in excess of Euros 1.2 billion. The fact that seven of these were new construction projects heralds very good news for the future of the superyacht industry as a whole.

charter

Peter Brown, Sales Broker:

Yachts are selling, confidence is growing. We predict another good year of strong sales in 2015 with some highly desirable yachts on the market that are ready to go.

Burgess has always been ahead of the game: it pioneered offering superyacht clients a full suite of specialist services, having introduced its operational management division within a few years of establishing the company. The first yacht to join the company’s yacht management programme, an 86m (282ft) superyacht, is still looked after by Burgess 28 years later.

sale

In the same year, Burgess launched its new construction division, now known as Burgess Technical Services (BTS), to offer owners, captains and other interested parties a range of project management services throughout the build process. Within four years, BTS had amassed 18 projects and has to date been involved with some of the world’s largest and most complex new build projects, including the first superyachts to comply with the third iteration of the Large Yacht Code. The BTS team were also responsible for developing and implementing the Passenger Yacht Code for commercial yachts designed to accommodate between 13 and 36 guests.

Tim Wiltshire, Group Sales Director:

The market may be stabilising and recovering, but we are not predicting any return to the pre 2008 inflated market conditions. The increase in yacht sales has only recently placed moderate upwards pressure on prices, but we can expect the most sought-after vessels – high quality, large superyachts, with good pedigree, well-maintained and proven on the water – to hold their values more robustly over the next 12 months as inventory levels fall, especially as the upper end of the market.

Burgess continues to evolve with the challenges and pressures of the evermore regulated superyacht industry, not least when it comes to technology. Last year the “Burgess Manage” digital management solution was launched. This allows the team to work more efficiently with the captains and crew on the managed fleet of over 70 superyachts. Automatic tracking of regulatory paperwork and crew qualifications enables yachts to operate more efficiently and effectively.

crew

Jonathan Beckett, Chief Executive Officer:

Times change and I am immensely proud of the way Burgess has grown over the last 40 years from a single-handed venture to a global market leader with a multi-million Euro turnover. We are now 160 people in 11 offices worldwide and it is inspiring to see the next generation of brokers, technical experts, charter specialists and yacht managers taking Burgess forward. The superyacht industry remains forever fascinating, never predictable and always challenging. I am very much looking forward to the next chapter.

In addition to record sales in 2014, Burgess enjoyed a buoyant boat show season at Cannes, Monaco and Fort Lauderdale, exhibiting more than 10% of the vessels on display, with a total value of over US$1 billion. In Monaco alone, the total length of Burgess superyachts in Port Hercule and at anchor exceeded 1 kilometre. And 2015 is shaping up to be even more exciting, with new builds, and the sale of large, high quality yachts continuing to reflect the strengthening market. As Burgess celebrates its 40th anniversary in the business, the company is looking forward to an even better future as it continues to lead the way as the global superyacht authority.

Woman Who Filed Civil Suit Against Diddy’s Son Speaks Out About Rapper’s Arrest: ‘Justice’

Diddy King Combs

The lawyer of a woman who filed a civil suit against Diddy ’s youngest son, Christian “King” Combs , has spoken out against the rapper’s arrest via a statement from her lawyer.

Grace O’Marcaigh, 25, accused King, 26, of sexually assaulting her while she was working on a yacht in 2022 via a lawsuit filed in April.

After Diddy (real name Sean Combs ) was taken into custody this week, O’Marcaigh’s lawyer, Rodney S. Diggs , described the arrest as the “first step” towards “justice” in a statement provided to Us Weekly on Wednesday, September 18.

“The long-awaited federal arrest of Sean Combs is the first step for our clients receiving justice,” Diggs said in the statement. “We leave the criminal aspect of this case in the hands of the people and justice system. As for the civil cases, we await our time for the facts to reveal themselves and seek the justice our clients deserve.”

He added: “We also anticipate more victims coming forward. We knew this was coming. The evidence is very clear, and it was only a matter of time. This is an important step towards justice for all of Mr. Combs’ victims including my clients. Justice will prevail.”

Us Weekly has reached out to a representative for Diddy for comment.

Diddy was arrested in New York on Monday, September 16. The following day, a 14-page indictment alleging that Diddy “abused, threatened and coerced women and others around him” was made public. The rapper has since entered a not guilty plea for charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution.

A New York judge denied Diddy bail on Tuesday, September 17, and he will remain in custody pending trial. He lost an appeal to overturn the decision on Wednesday, September 18.

Diddy’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo , insisted that Diddy is innocent in an interview on CNN’s The Source With Kaitlan Collins .

“He’s innocent. I believe he’s innocent. I believe he’s innocent of the charges,” he said Tuesday. “He is going to go to trial. And I believe he’s going to win.”

A lawsuit filed by lawyers on April 4 in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleged that  Diddy’s son King sexually assaulted O’Marcaigh while she was working on a yacht. The papers alleged the working environment had been “sold as a wholesome family excursion” but turned into a “hedonistic environment.”

Diddy King Combs

King was also accused of sexual harassment and infliction of emotional distress in the lawsuit. Diddy was sued in the same suit for premises liability for chartering the yacht and for aiding and abetting King in the alleged assault.

Days later, a lawyer for Diddy and King hit back at reports and slammed one of the lawyers representing O’Marcaigh.

In a statement to Us on April 8, lawyer Aaron Dyer cautioned the public to meet the claims with skepticism, pointing the finger at the accuser’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn , who filed the lawsuit alongside Diggs.

“We have not seen this woman’s claim but I’m sure we can expect the same kind of manufactured lies … just as we saw in Rodney Jones ’ lawsuit — which has yet to be served,” Dyer said in a statement to Us at the time.

“[Blackburn] was just slapped by a federal judge in New York earlier this week for his ‘pattern of behavior’ in ‘improperly [filing] cases in federal court to garner media attention, embarrass defendants with salacious allegations and pressure defendants to settle quickly,’” Dyer continued.

Dyer was referring to a court filing by Judge Denise Cote that suggested Blackburn had a history of filing lawsuits aimed at attracting media attention to pressure high-profile defendants into settling quickly.

Blackburn faced similar accusations in the past, including from lawyers representing Nicki Minaj, T.I. and Tameka “Tiny” Harris , who accused him of participating in a “sordid shakedown campaign” to extract settlements from the artists.

“Two days after he was referred to the disciplinary committee in the Southern District of New York, it’s interesting he chose to file a new suit in California,” Dyer’s statement concluded. “This is just another page from that same playbook, as we learned of this lawsuit the same way anyone hears about Mr. Blackburn’s filings: through the media.”

King broke his silence on the matter on March 29, days after he was detained and later released by law enforcement. He posted a message via Snapchat that read, “Stop with the 🧢,” using the slang term of “cap,” i.e. lying.

Jubilee Delivered

  • By Kelley Sanford
  • Updated: July 20, 2017

Jubilee, Oceanco

Oceanco recently delivered its largest build yet, the 361-foot Jubilee . In fact, the builder says that Jubilee is also the largest yacht ever constructed in the Netherlands. However, she should be a head-turner for more than just her size: she has a sleek, light blue superstructure contrasted with a silver hull.

Jubilee, Oceanco

Jubilee ‘s exterior was penned by Lobanov Design while her interior is from Sorgiovanni Designs. She accommodates 30 guests in 15 staterooms, which includes a private owner’s deck. This yacht has the space with her substantial length and a 54-foot beam. She displaces a hefty 4,500 gross tons.

Jubilee ‘s amenities include a foredeck helipad, a pool with built in aquarium aft and a beach club. Oceanco says that Jubilee represents another yachting first as she was fully outfitted with all owner’s supplies upon delivery, including tenders, water toys, china, furniture and more. The superyacht reportedly tops out at 18.5 knots and has a 14-knot cruising speed.

Jubilee is for sale with Burgess Yachts .
