A Stress-Free Vacation That’s Fun for the Whole Family

Family vacations are a fun and excellent way to spend time together as a family, but they are also an important part of growing closer as a family. A shared family experience is something truly special that should never be undervalued. That being said, we also understand that family vacations rarely come stress-free. Whether you’re helping your kids through airport security or figuring out how to spend time when you’re cooped up in a hotel room, otherwise-exciting family vacations can be a little challenging at times.

Yacht charters may not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning a family vacation, but we’ve found that yacht charters are an outstanding way for families to spend quality time enjoying each other’s company as well as the innumerable activities offered by a chartered yacht. Every yacht charter offers your family opportunities for new adventures that you may not have otherwise, all without having to worry about planning, sticking to a schedule, or figuring out mundane details like planning meals.

Enjoyable Experiences

Families are common and very much welcome aboard many charter yachts. Charter crews and captains are as professional as they are dedicated to helping you enjoy your experience aboard their ship. Fabulous meals are usually provided, and your yacht’s friendly crew enjoy sharing their knowledge from exciting water sports to how to identify a parrot fish. Some yacht crew even plan events for your kids, such as pirate-themed games or treasure hunts on a secret beach.

Chartered yachts offer a litany of family-friendly activities, ranging from snorkeling to tubing to fishing. Every yacht’s crew and captain works hard to help you and your family have the best possible time while aboard, ensuring everyone enjoys a combination of keeping busy and having time for that much appreciated afternoon nap.  So by all means take a break, your ‘no’ schedule is important to the crew and captain, and they’ll be ready with new activities when you are.

Many Available Activities

There’s no better way for your kids to experience the world than through the unique perspective offered by chartered yacht. Fully equipped charter yachts offer a range of experiences like deep-sea fishing and snorkeling in reefs that remain nearly untouched by man, as well as more common but still exciting activities like sailing, snorkeling, wake-boarding, tubing, stand up paddle-boarding or even scuba diving. Even the more common activities take on a whole new character when done through private charter, as you and your family are able to enjoy each other’s company and have blast together while you’re at it! By participating in these activities together as a family, you’ll be sure to build memories that you and your family will love and cherish for the rest of your lives.

Safety Precautions

If you have younger kids, you’re probably wondering if chartering is a feasible or wise option for a family vacation. Though some yachts have age restrictions for safety reasons, many offer various degrees of childproofing and many encourage children on board, opening the door for even younger kids to experience the wonders of the open ocean.

Though not every luxury charter yacht is kid-friendly, many offer fun, protected environments for children with included safety provisions, such as baby gates and nets. Depending on the size of the charter, dedicated play areas might be available, either giving adults some much-needed alone time or allowing for family fun for the younger kids.

Many dream of a life on the water, and the only way to make that dream even better is to bring the ones you love. When choosing a catamaran for you and your family, you’ll want to look for something with large living areas. that is very safe and well suited for your type of sailing. But where do you begin?

The 16 best cruising catamarans for a family are:

Fountaine Pajot Astrea 42

Fountaine pajot helia 44, hudson powercat 56.

  • Lagoon Sixty7

Leopard 53 Powercat

Nautitech 47 power, outremer 5x, privilege signature 510, seawind 1600, fountaine pajot victoria 67.

In the rest of this article, I will give you details on each of the best brands and models of family-sized catamarans and discuss why each one is ideal for family cruising. In addition, I will discuss what to look for in a family catamaran and what factors to consider before buying a cruising boat.

Best Catamarans for Family Cruising: Buyer’s Guide

Catamarans are motor or wind-powered boats set apart by their build structure: they have two hulls instead of one. This design choice makes the boats more stable and secure in windy and rough conditions and reduces the boat’s rocking.

Great for long or short cruises with your family, and the best catamarans all have one thing in common: the quality of the build. Each of the brands on this list has mastered the art of building durable and safe catamarans that stand up to years on the water.

All of the boats in this article would be ideal for a family cruiser – it just depends on what you and your family need individually – as some specifications and customizations differ per boat.

Below, I’ll go over a few key points that will make all the difference to you and your family for cruising in comfort.

What To Look For in a Family Catamaran

If you’re looking at a catamaran specifically for cruising with your family, be prepared to do a lot of research. It’s a significant investment, and to ensure you buy a boat that fits your family’s specific needs, try and consider all of the factors that change with each brand and performance make of catamaran .

As you look around, be sure to pay extra attention to:

  • The number of cabins
  • The overall size and space available
  • The price, including any extras

The Number of Cabins

The amount of cabins in a catamaran is a vital part of sailing as a family. Most cats offer at least four cabins, but if you have a larger family and everyone needs their own room, you might want to buy a larger boat with up to six cabins.

Many catamarans also offer the “Maestro” option, where one hull consists of the master suite and the rest of the cabins are together on the other side. This provides an added level of privacy in what is usually a smaller space than your average holiday home.

Cabin layout is also crucial for a family sailing together. Some catamarans have multiple cabins and a loft, but most are just a set amount of rooms.

Where they are in relation to the galley and lounge areas is essential to know and varies based on brand and model.

The Overall Size and Space Available

Ideally, you want enough space to house and feed everyone comfortably on your journey. This will vary depending on the size of your family, which size catamaran you buy, and how that brand prioritizes cargo and living space over other things.

When traveling with family for longer cruises, having ample space will necessitate a comfortable trip – too small a space might lead to cabin fever and friction amongst the crew (a.k.a. familymembers).

Payload is also vital to pay attention to – if you overload a catamaran, it will ride lower in the water and won’t be as fuel or sail-efficient. Plan carefully what you will bring and how much space your particular boat will have available – and remember that there will be people on board as well!

The Price, Including Any Extras

A catamaran is a considerable investment, and the price can be daunting. However, as long as you’re purchasing a yacht of good quality, you can go for a cheaper option. Many cats hold their resale value better than most other vessels, meaning you can expect to recoup most of your money should you choose to sell later.

You can also reduce the upfront cost by opting out of certain luxuries. Though these additions may seem exciting and like must-haves, they soon add up. It’s up to you to decide on whether or not you can survive without TVs in every cabin.

And remember that everything thats on a boat will sooner or later either break or need maintenance so calculate that in your budget.

While catamarans will always be pretty expensive, you can reduce your up-front costs by buying a used boat. If you do buy a used catamaran, remember that the refit history of the ship is more important than the age or size. A smaller, older boat without many huge refits will be better than a larger, newer one with multiple issues.

16 Best Catamarans for Family Cruising

Below you’ll find my recommendations for the 16 best cruising catamarans for a family. Although there are many technical aspects to each of these catamarans, there’s not enough time to discuss them all in detail here.

Instead of talking too much about the sailing technicalities, I’ll focus on practicals, touching on the overall features of each catamaran and what makes them ideal for cruising with a family.

Although Bali cruisers are more often used for charter boats, they have thrived in the hands of private owners. The helm and lack of a full flybridge lead to greater visibility and stability, making it easier to sail the boat in rougher conditions. There is also a platform running between the two hulls for extra accessibility.

The Bali 4.1 is a relatively small ship for sailing with a family but still offers three to four cabins and a remarkably spacious master cabin.

It has the extra interior volume and a spacious galley and saloon. This ship is created to sail in comfort while handling adverse weather conditions safely.

From $395 000

At fifty feet (15.24 meters), the Catana 50 is an amazingly spacious catamaran. The cabins are large, and the showers are tall, a feature hard to find on any cruising boat.

There’s enough space for everyone to have some storage and a bunk, and the Catana 50 can be sailed individually or with a crew.

This catamaran was made for long distances, with its size and speed making the boat ideal for traveling through choppy or windy conditions. If you’re traveling with a family, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more comfortable and powerful combination than the Catana 50.

Fountaine Pajot is represented twice on this list, and for a good reason. They are one of the best brands in sailing boats and specialize in making catamarans for cruising and family life.

The Astrea 42 was designed with a family in mind – the layout maximizes living and cargo space, even in a small boat.

On the Astrea 42, the lounge is the heart of the boat, and windows surround the living space for fantastic ocean views.

The cabins also have impressive space, with options for a master cabin suite on one hull and two smaller rooms on the other or four regular-sized cabins split between the hulls.

Another Fountaine Pajot ship, the Helia 44, was made for long-distance journeying in comfort. There are several customizable options in this boat, including the number of cabins and the size of the galley.

The version with the owner’s suite includes a separate shower and toilet, as well as laundry (a must for any family traveling long distances on a small boat).

The Helia 44 is larger than the Astrea but more on par with its sister ship, the Fountaine Pajot Elba 45. The saloon is bigger than previous models, and the steerability of this yacht continues to impress. Fountaine Pajot’s dedication to quality comes through with the Helia 44.

If you want to take your family on a trip in style and with speed, look no further than a Gunboat catamaran.

Gunboat is famous for its fast boats and spacious cabins while not compromising on power and performance. With a Gunboat 68, you can take your entire family around the world comfortably.

The Gunboat 68 is one of the newest members of the Gunboat lineup and is a large catamaran while still being lightweight. You have the option of anywhere from four to six cabins, all of which have been ergonomically and practically designed for comfort.

The galley and lounge areas are also spacious, making this boat ideal for family living.

The Hudson Powercat 56 is one of the few catamaran cruisers with as many outdoor living spaces as there are interior. There are multiple decks to relax on while sailing, including the large outdoor dining area on the boat’s flybridge, and you can choose between a completely covered, hardtop, or open flybridge and helm.

Inside, the Hudson Powercat gives a sense of more space, with a standard of four cabins and a large galley. The galley features a full-size refrigerator and an excellent setup for cooking.

This is an excellent power option for a family that likes the catamaran setup but are not as interested in the actual sailing.

The Lagoon brand of Catamarans is perfect for beginner sailors because each Lagoon boat is built with sophisticated technology to make it easy to pick up and sail.

The Lagoon 440 has all the space a family could need, and most are also equipped with the newest electrical motor to power the boat without burning diesel.

Lagoon is starting to offer more electric-powered boats, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The dual battery system works just as well as a diesel engine without an enormous carbon footprint.

This catamaran is easy to use and incredibly eco-friendly, so you can take your family on long cruises without worrying about the adverse environmental effects.

Lagoon Sixty7 Power or Seventy7 Sail

If you want a lagoon cruiser with even more space and luxury, the Lagoon features a luxury cabin setup and multiple smaller cabins for the kids.

It has the same ease of use as the Lagoon 440, with almost twenty feet more living space. If you buy a new Lagoon, you can even customize your design style.

The most exciting feature of the Lagoon is the cockpit lounge and access to the flybridge. The cockpit is entirely reversible, so you can face the sea or the lounge while sailing. It’s also effortless and safe to get to the flybridge from the cockpit, especially when you’re at sea.

The Leopard 53 Powercat is one of the few power cruisers that are also (somewhat) environmentally friendly. Because of the design of the ship, it’s able to save fuel and travel longer distances.

The three-cabin layout offers a master cabin with a full walk-around bed and extra storage space.

The galley features domestic-sized equipment and a large dinette. You can eat inside or outside because the flybridge also has seating.

This double-deck design makes for amazing views and lots of entertaining options. There’s plenty of space and comfort on board the Leopard 53 Powercat.

The Manta 42 consistently comes up as one of the best catamarans available.

It’s slightly smaller than the other catamarans on this list but has spacious cabins (enormous thanks to the galley being in the saloon instead of the hulls). The layout of the Manta is ideal for family cruising, despite its smaller size.

Another benefit of buying a Manta 42 is that you will almost certainly be able to buy it used. As long as you ensure that the boat’s refitting history is good, you can buy a sturdy ship with all of the previous owners’ upgrades. This process will save you money and get you an excellent cruiser!

Nautitech is an excellent cruiser brand, and its power line delivers some of the fastest and most potent catamarans in the business. While these yachts are not as energy-efficient as some of their counterparts, they can make a journey shorter and more enjoyable with their speeds and engine capabilities.

The saloon on the Nautitech 47 Power has a 360-degree view from large windows, and with four cabins and extra-large living spaces, you’ll be able to fit your entire family into this boat and still have room.

Outremer is a catamaran brand known for speed , as well as the comfort of life.

The Outremer 5X is a huge boat measuring almost 60 feet (18.29 meters) long, with options for three or four cabins. The rest of the space is used for the lounge and living areas, the galley, and ample storage space.

The Outremer 5X is an excellent boat for longer cruises with a smaller family or shorter trips with many people. The amount of deck space is perfect for outdoor dining and parties.

Despite its size, the Outremer 5X is remarkably easy to handle and can easily be short handed.

Made for long-distance traveling, the Privilege Signature 510 boasts a centered owner’s cabin for extra space and views from the master bedroom. There are also two hull cabins and a smaller crew cabin on board for the kids, which is ideal if you want some space between the primary and master cabins.

This catamaran is one of the larger in its class, built for comfort and livability. The main living areas focus on space and light, making them ideal for family living. If you’re planning on living on a boat with your family, you can do no better than the Privilege Signature 510 for luxury and space.

Prout catamarans are known for their sturdy and dependable frames. The company has built boats for long-distance cruising for years and is an expert in sailing ships’ comfort and safety.

The Prout 50 is one of the lighter ships on the line and adds speed and seaworthiness to its dependability. Designed for sailing long distances, the Prout 50 offers excellent visibility and the option to sail single-handedly.

It boasts four cabins and an enormous saloon with high-quality furniture. There’s a lot of space on this boat for a party, a short family outing, or to live in!

The Seawind brand is known for its safety precautions and simple boats. While catamarans are very unlikely to capsize, Seawinds are exceptionally sturdy due to their mast configuration.

These boats are incredibly easy to control and work well for new sailors, and the Seawind 1600 is no exception to this rule.

At 52 feet (15.85 meters) long, this boat has lots of space for a family to live and sail. There is an option for three or four cabins, with the fourth held as storage on a three-cabin boat.

The sleeping quarters take up most of the hull, leaving the galley and lounge areas in the ship’s center.

Another large catamaran, the Victoria 67, will have plenty of space for long cruises with a family. Users are impressed by the amount of space and comfort available in this yacht, as well as the functionality for a boat of this size.

The Victoria 67 features simple wiring and solar panels on deck to help maintain energy levels, and the flybridge and cabin options are massive – there are four extra double bed cabins on board with an owner’s suite.

For ultimate comfort for a crowd, look no further than the massive and spacious Victoria 67.

Final Thoughts

If you’re ready to leave land behind and hit the seas with your family, a catamaran is an excellent and safe choice of vessel.

In any of these luxury yachts, you’ll be able to sail long distances with ample living space. Whichever one you choose, use it to get out there and enjoy the open seas!

Family-Friendly Yachting: Tips for an Unforgettable Family Yacht Vacation

family charters catamaran

Embark on a family adventure like no other with our expert tips for a memorable and family-friendly yacht vacation. Leave behind the mundane and embrace the extraordinary as we guide you through the art of choosing the perfect yacht, ensuring essential safety precautions, and packing efficiently. Discover how to create a kid-friendly itinerary that will keep everyone entertained, and make the most of the luxurious onboard amenities. Get ready for an innovative and unforgettable experience on the open seas.

Choosing the Perfect Yacht

Selecting the ideal yacht is paramount when planning an unforgettable family yacht vacation. There are various factors to consider, such as yacht sizes, luxury vs. budget options, private vs. charter yachts, yacht features and facilities, and crewed vs. bareboat charters.

Yacht sizes play a crucial role in ensuring comfort and space for the entire family. Smaller yachts are more intimate and can navigate narrower waters, while larger yachts offer more amenities and space to accommodate larger families. It is important to consider the number of cabins and sleeping arrangements when choosing the right size for your family.

Luxury yachts provide top-of-the-line amenities and services, ensuring a lavish experience. On the other hand, budget options offer a more affordable alternative without compromising on the overall experience. It is essential to determine your family’s preferences and budget before making a decision.

Private yachts offer exclusivity and privacy for your family, allowing you to customize your itinerary and have a more intimate experience. Charter yachts, on the other hand, come with a professional crew who take care of navigation and maintenance, providing a hassle-free vacation experience.

Yacht features and facilities also vary, with some yachts offering water toys, jacuzzis, and onboard entertainment systems. It is important to consider your family’s interests and preferences to ensure a memorable experience.

Finally, choosing between crewed and bareboat charters depends on your sailing experience and preference for independence. Crewed charters provide a dedicated crew to navigate and assist, while bareboat charters allow you to be the captain and have full control over your vacation.

Essential Safety Precautions

When planning an unforgettable family yacht vacation, it is crucial to prioritize essential safety precautions to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for everyone on board. Water activities can be fun and exciting, but they also come with certain risks. To mitigate these risks, it is important to establish and communicate emergency procedures before setting sail. Make sure everyone on board is aware of the location and proper usage of safety equipment, such as life jackets, and educate them on how to respond in case of an emergency.

Childproofing measures should also be taken into consideration to ensure the safety of young children on board. Install safety gates or nets to prevent falls, secure cabinets and drawers to keep dangerous objects out of reach, and cover sharp edges to prevent injuries. Additionally, having a well-stocked first aid kit on board is essential. Include basic medical supplies such as bandages, antiseptics, and medications for common ailments.

Life jacket usage is non-negotiable, especially for children. Ensure that life jackets are properly fitted and worn at all times during water activities. It is also a good idea to assign a responsible adult to keep a close eye on children, especially when they are near the water.

Packing Tips for a Family Yacht Vacation

To ensure a smooth and organized family yacht vacation, proper packing is essential. Here are some tips to help you pack efficiently and ensure you have everything you need for a memorable trip:

  • Clothing essentials: Pack comfortable and lightweight clothing suitable for warm weather. Don’t forget swimsuits, cover-ups, and hats to protect from the sun. Also, include a few warmer layers for cooler evenings. Remember to pack enough clothes for the duration of your trip, as laundry facilities may be limited.
  • Food and snacks: While most yachts provide meals, it’s a good idea to bring some of your family’s favorite snacks and non-perishable food items. This ensures you have options that everyone will enjoy, especially if you have picky eaters. Don’t forget to pack enough water to stay hydrated throughout your journey.
  • Entertainment options: Keep your family entertained during the yacht vacation with a selection of books, magazines, board games, and playing cards. If you have children, consider bringing their favorite toys or electronic devices to keep them occupied during downtime. Additionally, you may want to bring a portable speaker to enjoy music while on board.

Remember to also pack beach and water gear such as towels, sunscreen, snorkeling gear, and inflatables. Lastly, it’s crucial to have a well-stocked first aid kit on board, including basic medications, band-aids, and any necessary prescription medications.

Creating a Kid-Friendly Itinerary

Designing a tailored itinerary that caters to the interests and needs of children is essential for a successful family yacht vacation. To ensure an unforgettable experience, it is important to incorporate fun activities, choose kid-friendly destinations , provide educational experiences, offer child-friendly meals, and provide entertainment options.

When planning a kid-friendly itinerary, it is crucial to include a variety of fun activities that will keep the children engaged and entertained throughout the trip. This can include water sports such as snorkeling or paddleboarding, beach games, treasure hunts, and even onboard movie nights under the stars.

Selecting kid-friendly destinations is another key aspect of creating an itinerary that children will enjoy. Look for destinations that offer attractions and activities tailored to kids , such as theme parks, aquariums, or wildlife sanctuaries. These destinations will not only provide entertainment but also educational experiences that can enrich their understanding of the world around them.

Incorporating educational experiences into the itinerary can be both enriching and entertaining for children. This can include visits to local museums, historical sites, or cultural centers, where they can learn about the history and traditions of the places they visit.

Child-friendly meals should also be a priority when planning a family yacht vacation. Ensure that the yacht’s chef is aware of any dietary restrictions or preferences of the children and can provide meals that are not only nutritious but also appealing to their young palates.

Lastly, offering a range of entertainment options onboard the yacht is essential. This can include games, puzzles, books, and even a selection of age-appropriate movies or TV shows. Having these options available will keep the children entertained during downtime or in case of bad weather.

Making the Most of Onboard Amenities

To fully maximize the onboard amenities, families should take advantage of the wide range of features and facilities available on the yacht. Here are three key ways families can make the most of these amenities:

  • Entertainment options: Yachts today are equipped with state-of-the-art entertainment systems, including flat-screen TVs, surround sound, and streaming capabilities. Families can enjoy movie nights under the stars or have a karaoke session in the comfort of their own yacht. Some yachts even offer gaming consoles and virtual reality experiences, ensuring endless entertainment for everyone on board.
  • Meal planning: Many yachts come with a professional chef who can cater to the specific dietary needs and preferences of the family. From gourmet meals to themed dinners, families can indulge in culinary delights without having to worry about planning and preparing meals themselves. The chef can also organize cooking classes for the whole family, allowing them to learn new recipes and techniques during their vacation.
  • Water activities: Yacht vacations offer numerous opportunities for water-based fun. Families can engage in activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving , jet skiing, and paddleboarding. Yachts often come with water toys, such as inflatable slides and trampolines, ensuring endless hours of excitement on the open sea.

In conclusion, a family yacht vacation can be a truly unforgettable experience, providing a unique opportunity for quality time, relaxation, and adventure. By choosing the perfect yacht, taking essential safety precautions, packing wisely, and creating a kid-friendly itinerary, families can make the most of their time on board. With the abundance of onboard amenities available, there is no shortage of entertainment and enjoyment for everyone. So set sail and create lasting memories with your loved ones on a family-friendly yacht vacation.

Reasons to Consider a Family Yacht Charter

Children playing in the water

Yacht charters are one of the best ways families can enjoy a vacation together, as they offer a private setting and fun for the whole family. Here are some of things you can look forward to on a family charter getaway:

  • Relaxation for Parents

Travelling with children can be challenging! There is the extra luggage, special meals, as well as entertainment once you reach your destination. However, yacht charters provide the ultimate relaxation for parents. While the children partake in supervised watersports or shoreside activities, parents can find time to read on the sundeck or sip a cocktail in the jacuzzi. Sounds like paradise? It is!

  • Fun for Kids

A dream come true for kids is to be onboard a fun-filled yacht in the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas or Caribbean. Plus, the crew onboard are fantastic at arranging activities. From themed events and movie nights, to taking your children sailing, paddleboarding, or tubing, there’ll never be a moment of restlessness.

  • Creating Memories Together

Undoubtedly the most important part of your yacht charter vacation will be creating lifelong memories as a family. On a yacht charter, the potential to create these experiences are unparalleled. Join in family adventures, explore and dine on secluded beaches, and experience the serene waters with your loved ones.

  • Hassle-Free Planning

Unlike other vacations which require constant planning, your job on a yacht charter is to relax, while leaving the rest to your experts at Worldwide Boat. We’ll take care of all the itinerary planning, provisioning, and logistics, allowing you to enjoy your stress-free getaway. Simply tell us what you want, and we’ll handle all the details!

  • Perfect for Celebrations

Looking for an unforgettable way to celebrate a birthday or holiday? A yachting getaway offers one of the best solutions, allowing you to celebrate a birthday, graduation, or milestone together as a family. Holiday charters are also perfect getaways, allowing you to enjoy Christmas or New Year’s together with the people you love in stunning destinations around the world.

  • Year-Round Destinations

Whether you’re looking for a summer destination (Mediterranean, Maine, New England) or want to escape with the family during Spring Break (the Caribbean), Worldwide Boat offers exclusive access to beautifully appointed yachts around the world. Our team can offer you recommendations on the most family-friendly charter spots.

  • Fun-Filled, Flexible Itineraries

One of the hardest parts of traveling with children is daily planning, e.g. where will you have lunch, nap times, activity planning, etc. A yacht charter ensures that all of those daily details are planned. You’ll enjoy chef-prepared meals (with special accommodations for picky eaters), and your crew will provide ideas and planning for daily excursions and fun for the family. Best of all, if you need to make a change, your itinerary will be flexible.

Tips for a Fun and Memorable Family Yacht Charter

charter guests jumping off boat

Many parents have concerns about bringing the kids on a yachting vacation. The first of which is safety, followed by ensuring that a private charter will be fun and memorable for kids, and that they won’t get bored and feel like they don’t have anything to do.

First, there are many safety precautions that are taken on board, to ensure the youngest guests are comfortable and safe while chartering. For example, small children are asked to wear PFDs, while cruising. As far as if your kids will enjoy themselves, the best yacht crews understand how to engage kids in fun activities, and ensure that they will be entertained throughout their charter.

However, there are some tips to consider as you prepare for a family yacht charter, including:

  • Introduce Safety Guidelines

Talk about yachting safety prior to your trip to familiarize your kids with safety while onboard. Some basic rules for young children on charters include:

  • Wear a PFD or life vest while on deck.
  • Ask for permission from a parent or adult before swimming or deboarding the boat.
  • When entering the water make sure crew or a parent is aware, and always swim with a partner.
  • Avoid running on deck.
  • Make sure a parent or crew member can supervise when a child is on deck.
  • Listen to rules from the captain and crew and follow any directions that they provide.
  • Choose a Kid-Friendly Yacht

The best yachts for children have kid-friendly amenities. This includes water toys and gear like a slide, paddleboards, jet skis (for teenagers). Other amenities you might look for on a yacht, includes snorkel gear or a home theater.

  • Itinerary Planning

One recommendation that we have guests traveling with children: Avoid long passes. If possible, shorter cruising distances will ensure you have plenty of time between sailing, for beach picnics, water toys, swimming, and shoreside excursions.

  • Help Them Get Excited

Before you embark, prepare your kids for the activities, sights, and experiences they will have on charter. You might show pictures of the beaches, wildlife, and landscapes they will encounter, or introduce them to sailing or motor yachting.

Family-Friendly Activities on Yacht Charters

Starship yacht and banana

A great thing about yacht charters: There’s an endless variety of family-friendly activities that will keep the whole family entertained. Some of the best onboard activities for kids include:

  • Water Toys – Kids love to spend hours on the swim platform taking to the water. A boat with a slide, water trampoline, or a diving platform can provide hours of entertainment.
  • Beach Picnics – A beach picnic can provide a chance for kids to explore and collect seashells. You might ask the crew to plan a game for the kids, while on the beach like cornhole, or choose a beach with a nearby hike.
  • Shore Excursions – Need an afternoon away from the boat? Almost all top charter destinations have fun activities ashore for kids, like the swimming pigs in The Bahamas, zipline tours, or ATV excursions.
  • Snorkeling – Snorkeling is one of the best ways to encounter wildlife and explore the vibrant corals, while on charter. Many yachts have snorkel gear onboard, with crew members that can serve as guides for the family.
  • Hiking and Biking – A nature hike or bike ride provides kids an opportunity to stretch their legs and experience a local destination. The Baths in the British Virgin Islands, for example, are a popular family hiking destination on the beach.
  • Themed Nights – Plan a themed party or dinner for the kids. Pirate parties, 80s parties, or a Harry Potter themed night are all ways you can make the charter more memorable for kids.
  • Fishing – Whether you and your kids enjoy a quiet afternoon fishing off the swim platform, or you prefer a longer trip by tender, fishing can be a fun, entertaining afternoon activity.
  • Sailing Lessons – A yacht charter provides a chance for curious kids to find a new hobby. If you’ll be on a sailing yacht, you can ask the crew for a sailing lesson, and give your kids a hands-on learning experience.

Top Destinations for Family Charters

Many of the world’s most desirable charter destinations are kid-friendly, and offer a plethora of activities for the whole family. Some of our favorite family-friendly destinations include:

Caribbean The Caribbean is home to some of the most popular family charter destinations including:

  • The Bahamas – The Bahamas offer a wide variety of kid-friendly activities, including snorkeling, iguana beaches, shelling, and numerous shoreside activities. A charter on Nassau also offers access to destination resorts like Atlantis.
  • Virgin Islands – The British Virgin Islands can keep kids entertained with pirate-themed activities, horseback riding, zipline tours, and jungle hikes. It’s also a popular destination for kids interested in sailing.

Mediterranean The Mediterranean, which includes Italy, Spain, Greece, and France is the world’s favorite destination for summer yacht charters. A few of our favorite family-friendly spots include:

Family Yacht Vacations

A family that plays together, stays together. This wise old maxim offers great advice in today’s stressful and fast paced world where technology rules. Playing together is a very important part of our busy lives that we all too often cut out and there’s no better place to play together as a family than on a relaxing luxury yacht in a beautiful destination, where everyone both young and old has a shared interest. Few special moments can foster family bonding and lasting memories like those experienced on the water on a family yacht charter vacation.

Superyacht Life

There's nothing quite like spending a vacation with your family on an especially designed family yacht charter. Luxurious crewed yachts provide everything and more anyone could possibly wish for when having fun on the ocean. There are all the amenities onboard that are the norm in five star hotels, along with plenty of freedom and flexibility. In addition, luxury yacht charters on superyachts and mega yachts are more personalised and bespoke than any land based holidays. And the best part of all is that your whole accommodation moves around at your whim to explore the coastline with you.

"...there’s no better place to play together as a family than on a relaxing luxury yacht in a beautiful destination, where everyone both young and old has a shared interest."

Azimut Family

The cabins on luxury yachts are spacious and fully equipped with comfortable beds, en suite bathrooms and pretty décor. Wherever you decide to sail to, expect fantastic destinations, beautiful scenery and the opportunity to enjoy plenty of relaxation. There are many different types of luxury yacht to rent, from crewed catamarans right up to the latest new superyacht (mega yacht). Also, there are almost endless yacht charter locations worldwide from the Mediterranean through to the Caribbean and once again the ideal location for you and your family depends on what you wish to do. Talk to your professional yacht charter consultant (broker) to get the best free advice on what to charter and where to go.

Spending quality time with your family on a superyacht means you can eat together, have fun together as well as enjoying the many different water sports from your vacation home. There are toys and tenders which are stored on the yacht to keep everyone occupied, so no time to be bored. Take the kids snorkeling so they can see amazing colored fish and marine life they have only read about in books. Play on the many inflatables that are provided like wave runners, jet skis, knee boards and sea bobs. Good fun!

It’s an educational holiday too. Visit different islands on your yacht charter travels and take a picnic with you, relax on the sun drenched beaches or play games like beach volley ball. You can also stop off at many splendid towns or cities to take in the sights and meet friendly people. Shop at the local markets to buy souvenirs for family and friends back home or treat yourself. With so much to see and do when taking a family yacht charter vacation, you're sure to have the time of your life.

Yacht IDOL

Most luxury charter yachts are child friendly offering fun, a safe environment for kids with gates for stairs along with safety nets. There are always suitable yachts to hire for your requirements, no matter what the ages are of your little ones. Children are entertained in safety while moms and dads can enjoy sitting on comfortable deck sun loungers with a refreshing drink, taking the opportunity to chill out and spend precious time together. There are often Jacuzzis onboard to take a dip in, now that's luxury. Many crew members love spending time with kids and have lots of experience in keeping them amused. Friendly crew will go out of their way to host wonderful evenings onboard your boat or organize trips ashore, even arranging treasure hunts on the beach or exciting pirate games.

When it comes to meal times, moms will be truly spoilt. All meals are prepared by professional onboard chefs, so sit back and dine in sumptuous surroundings. Tuck in to gourmet cuisine while the little ones have what they enjoy most. Some superyachts (typically motor yachts) have gyms, spas and saunas while others offer computer gaming, movies and for a touch of romance, star gazing. Best yachts for family charters

With the school year drawing to a close, it’s time to start looking for the best way to entertain the entire family during the summer holidays. A family-friendly superyacht may be the answer, and there are a host of vessels that can offer an array of amenities to keep everyone on board amused. So, whether you’re celebrating a graduation or looking to appease your toddlers, BOAT has curated the best superyachts in the fleet for the perfect family-led charter.

Stats : 80m, Abeking & Rasmussen, 2019, 12 guests, 22 crew

Highlights: If you’re in the market for a truly unique vessel, then Excellence 's jaw-dropping exterior should be at the top of your list. Her futuristic reverse bow, vast windows (shielding a triple-height atrium) and large deck space make her an immediate head-turner, but it's her onboard amenities that make Excellence a fine choice for a family charter. Accommodating 12 guests across seven double bedrooms – as well as an additional staff cabin – Excellence has all the space you need at 2,115GT for a relaxing family gathering. Her main deck features a large pool with a swim-up bar and there are two Jacuzzis on board.

Like any successful family charter, entertainment is key, which is why Excellence ’s toy box is brimming with action. On board, you’ll have your pick of trampolines, SeaBobs, eFoils, sailing dinghies and an aqua park, among much else.

With family charters, it’s also important to consider downtime away from the kids. Relaxing and unwinding have never been so easy as it is on board Excellence , with a number of luxury design attributes including a wellness spa with its own sauna, a dedicated gym and a tiered cinema for a quiet evening in.

Excellence is available for charter with Burgess with a weekly rate of $1,150,000.

Stats: 115.1 metres, Lürssen , 2022, 16 guests, 36 crew

Highlights: She may be one of the hottest (and most expensive) yachts in the charter fleet, but this 115-metre Lürssen was explicitly designed for family use. Her double-height owner's apartment can be sequestered from the rest of the vessel for intimate family quarters and has a staggering master cabin, as well as two identical bedrooms designed for the owners’ children. With accommodation for 16 across eight well-appointed cabins, Ahpo has four staff cabins, perfect for a nanny, tutor or other auxiliary staff.

Entertainment on board also suits the whole family, including a 12-seater cinema equipped with velvet seats and a starlit ceiling. On the walls are three portraits of the owner's favourite actors and artists – Dorothy Dandridge, Sidney Poitier and Sammy Davis Jr – created in black and white fabric mosaics that add a touch of fun and vintage Hollywood to the elegant space.

Ahpo is available to charter with Edmiston with a weekly rate from €2,600,000.

Stats: 60 metres, Brodosplit, 2015, 12 guests, 15 crew

Highlights: Boasting ample deck spaces and large volumes, Katina i s equipped with a range of luxury amenities for every member of the family to enjoy. These include a spa centre comprising a gym with state-of-the-art tech, a sauna and a massage room, as well as a deck Jacuzzi, an outdoor cinema and a clubhouse-style whiskey and cigar room with its own ventilation.

For parties and events celebrated together with the whole family, Katina can accommodate as many as 150 guests on board and offers an impressive surround-sound system and light show for partying the night away. An RYA-approved water sports centre, Katina is bursting with water toys; little ones can enjoy a splash in the sea with the inflatable playground and waterslide, while older kids can try out the Hoverboard and Flyboard. Katina even welcomes canine members of the family, with the experienced crew having hosted a charismatic Pomeranian for more than a month onboard in previous seasons.

Katina is available for charter with TWW with a weekly charter rate starting from €260,000.

Stats: 90.1 metres, Lürssen , 2007, 12 guests, 20 crew

Highlights: Emanating her own unique charm, the glamorous 1920’s inspired yacht is in a league of her own in the charter fleet. Built by Corsair Yachts , her owner was inspired by J.P. Morgan's Corsair yachts from the 1930s. An apt replica, she resembles a small, classic cruise liner – with a (model) smoke stack included. Beneath her classic exterior, Nero features state-of-the-art technology and she’s up there with the best modern yachts, making her a great choice for the whole family.

Following an extensive refit, Nero has an upgraded Icon AV/IT system, which enables streaming for all devices with a theatrical experience in the observation lounge cinema. Two new pizza ovens are also on board, perfect for younger guests to get involved in the galley.

For a bit of peace and quiet, this 90-metre vessel has one of the finest wellness offerings in the charter fleet, including a beauty salon on the upper deck, with a massage table. There is also a state-of-the-art gym on the sun deck with Technogym equipment including a Kinesis, treadmill, cross trainer and cardio bike.

Nero is available for charter with Burgess with a weekly rate of €497,000.

Stats: 85.3m, SilverYachts , 2019, 12 guests, 20 crew

Highlights: If you’re looking to find a yacht that looks like it's from outer space, then Bold should be your first choice. Built in 2019 by Australian yard SilverYachts, the 85-metre yacht is certainly a head-turner with its aggressive military-inspired profile. But when it comes to entertaining the whole family, looks only go so far, and Bold also has the amenities – as well as the itinerary – to keep the whole family happy on board.

Bold has an enormous screen – or rather nine screens that can be synchronised to show one gigantic image – for streaming videos, or watching a movie with the family. The space doubles up as a disco room in the evenings and the screen is hooked up to high-wattage sound through Renkus-Heinz speakers for serious celebrations. Additional party spaces are higher up on the top deck. There is also a firepit and the equipment to set up another movie screen for al fresco movie nights.

Currently on a world tour, Bold’s itinerary is known for being exciting and true to her name as a sports activity vessel (SAV) – its own breed of explorer. Her toy box is brimming with inflatables, jet skis, sailing dinghies and kite surfers and there’s even a basketball court on board.

Bold is available for charter with Hill Robinson with a weekly rate from €875,000.

Stats: 76.6m, Amels , 1999 (2020), 12 guests, 22 crew

Highlights: If you’re looking to bring the whole family on holiday this summer, then volume should be a key consideration. Boadicea has this covered, with 2,190GT of interior space spread across six decks. Built by Amels in 1999, the 76-metre had an all-encompassing refit in 2020, where she was propelled into the future and is now a contemporary charter vessel with elegant interiors that were recreated specifically with charter in mind. For time away from the kids, Boadicea also has an onboard spa complete with a steam bath, a hydro massage hot tub and a massage room.

When they say a charter for the whole family they mean it as on Boadicea, you can spend your charter with your four-legged friend. The 76-metre was designed to be pet friendly and there’s even a garden on board with a trough containing soil and shrubs. This is where afternoon tea is served on board, known as the ‘tea garden deck’.

Boadicea is available to charter with YPI at a weekly rate from €645,000.

Endless Summer

Stats: 49.9m, Delta Marine , 2017, 12 guests, 9 crew

Highlights : Built in 2017 by US shipyard Delta Marine, this 50-metre superyacht has family fun at its core with state-of-the-art entertainment systems and lots of space for fun and games. With accommodation for 12 guests on board, Endless Summer is an accessible yacht with an elevator connecting all four decks.

Family games and entertainment are a core element of Endless Summer . The upper deck saloon table can play host to drinks and jigsaws or be flipped to provide a Las Vegas-style green baize surface for more serious card games. Music and entertainment are channelled from multiple sources, and there’s satellite television and more than 1,000 movies on the server to keep the kids entertained.

But this isn’t just a good match for the kids as one of Endless Summer’ s standout features is a spectacular collection of wine. Ascending the stairs to the upper deck, you’ll come across the collection housed behind a glass wall in a climate-controlled cellar. Softly lit, the dark wood tones of the wine racks and the symmetry of the bottles in serried floor-to-ceiling ranks create a striking impression.

Endless Summer is available to charter with Y.CO with a weekly rate of €250,000.

Stats: 62m, Feadship , 2013, 12 guests, 18 crew

Highlights : Delivered in 2013 and designed by Winch Design, Sea Owl sports a striking green hull and white superstructure colour scheme matched by her tenders. With family life at its core, Sea Owl was designed to be a place where the children learn as they play and adults can enjoy family time, work or relax miles away from land. Inspired by several fairy tales, the designers worked closely with the owner’s family to personalise each room and encourage the children to explore real and imaginary worlds. The result boasts some sensational spaces on board including a pirate-themed room, an Alice in Wonderland-inspired cabin and on the sun deck, where a toothy shark grins on the walls of the freshwater spa pool.

Her colourful exterior is not the only thing that makes the literary-inspired Sea Owl a green superyacht. To spice up meals on board, the chef – or indeed the kids – can pick fresh herbs from the nifty garden on the superyacht sundeck of this 61.9-metre Feadship.

Sea Owl is available to charter with Northrop & Johnson with a weekly rate of $440,000

What Is A Crewed Yacht Charter?

A crewed yacht charter is an exclusive vacation experience aboard a private yacht, complete with a dedicated crew. They personalize your itinerary based on your activities of interest and dining preferences. Whether you wish for an adventurous journey or a relaxed getaway, the choice is entirely up to you.

Why Use A Yacht Charter Broker?

A yacht charter broker offers invaluable, unbiased, and professional advice. They are knowledgeable about the yachts, crews, and destinations they recommend. Brokers, especially those affiliated with organizations like CYBA (Charter Yacht Brokers Association), adhere to stringent ethical and fiduciary standards.

How Early Should I Book A Crewed Charter?

Booking early is highly recommended, as popular yachts and crews can be reserved months in advance, especially during holidays and spring break. To ensure you get your preferred yacht and crew, we suggest planning your charter 6 to 12 months ahead, or even earlier.

How Do I Book A Crewed Yacht Charter?

Booking with Carefree Yacht Charters involves a simple 3-step process: selecting a suitable yacht and crew, placing a hold on your chosen yacht while discussing contract and travel details, and finalizing your charter with a signed contract and deposit.
