VIVA: The $250 Million Superyacht Of UFC Owner Frank Fertitta III

From his current position as CEO of Station Casinos to how he – alongside brother Lorenzo and childhood friend Dana White – transformed the UFC into a multi-billion-dollar promotion , there’s virtually endless information about how Frank Fertitta III made his fortune. How he chooses to spend said fortune, however, is a little more mysterious (at least for the fun stuff). One such indulgence we know the elder Fertitta brother has treated himself to is the ultra-luxurious Feadship-built superyacht known as Viva, which comes with an eye-watering price tag of US$175 million / AU$252 million.

Conceptualised by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture in collaboration with De Voogt Naval Architects, while also showcasing interiors accomplished by Peter Marino, Viva was only completed in the Netherlands last year and delivered shortly thereafter.

Back to the matter of Viva, it boasts an overall length of 308 feet / 94 metres with a 13.6-metre beam and gross tonnage of 2,999 – making it the 85th largest superyacht in the entire world; seventh largest ever constructed by Feadship – and can comfortably accommodate 14 guests across seven cabins alongside a capable crew of 18.

Viva has been called the “most environmentally-friendly luxury vessel of its kind” due to it featuring a hybrid propulsion system that allows the boat to cruise using diesel-electric power, as well as a waste treatment plant and heat recovering systems.

The owner of the ground-breaking VIVA set the target of keeping the environmental impact of this eco-friendly 94.00-metre Feadship at around the same levels as his previous, 32.00-metre shorter Feadship. One of the ways in which this highly ambitious goal was reached was through an exceptionally advanced hybrid propulsion system that allows VIVA to travel a comfortable 12 knots on diesel-electric power. Painted in a special pearl-white livery, the hull was designed, engineered and built to be as efficient as possible and reduce the engine power needed to power her. Little wonder VIVA was named Motoryacht of the Year in 2022.

Feadship 94 metre superyacht Viva delivered

The 94 metre Feadship superyacht Viva , previously known as Project 817, has been delivered and is now en route to Gibraltar. 

It comes after the yacht completed sea trials after hitting the water for the first time in February. 

Viva features exterior design penned by Azure Yacht Design and Studio De Voogt and an interior by Peter Marino described as “open beach-house style”.

Commissioned by a keen charterer of Feadship yachts, the owner of Viva was keen to keep the environmental impact of Viva at the same as his previous 62 metre Feadship superyacht.

One key environmental feature is the hybrid propulsion system, which will allow Viva to travel at 12 knots on diesel-electric power and 20 knots under traditional diesel power.

The yacht also features a waste treatment plant and heat recovering systems on board. Viva is characterised by “great edifices” of glass, according to the yard, including floor-to-ceiling windows.

Elsewhere, Viva features a 14 metre beam, allowing it to accommodate the largest tender and boast the longest hull doors ever seen on a Feadship.

To the amazement of onlookers, former UFC owner Frank Fertitta III’s $250 million yacht, Viva, got stuck at a Fort Lauderdale bridge. The 308-foot yacht, boasting a gym, pool, cinema, helipad, and even a beauty salon, may have suffered damage in the accident.

The Viva yacht, known as an active Feadship luxury vessel delivered in 2021, experienced a bit of inactivity at Fort Lauderdale on September 10th. The vessel, with a top speed of 20.0 knots, was caught in a state of inertia due to the massive luxury yacht being lodged against the bridge. A video of the 308-foot pleasure craft, named Motoryacht of the Year in 2022, shows the pearly white hull practically stuck to the bridge with barely any space for air to pass through. It doesn’t take a genius to guess that this unwanted attachment likely caused some damage, though it is difficult to confirm from the video.

VIVA yacht is a masterpiece built by the renowned Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects , a Netherlands-based yacht designer, in their Kaag shipyard.

She was built in 2021 and is considered one of the largest motor yachts in the world that can accommodate up to 14 guests in luxurious comfort and 18 crew for excellent service.

Her price is $175 million and her annual running cost is at around US$ 17.5 million yearly. She is currently not believed to be for sale nor available for private charter.

As a private yacht, little is known about her owner who is a billionaire and features his initials on the helicopter register N702FF.

Feadship launches 94m superyacht VIVA (Project 817)

Feadship’s 94m (308ft) superyacht VIVA, previously known as Project 817, has left the Dutch builder's yard in Kaag for the first time today.

The custom-built superyacht includes a number of ambitious features to fulfill the needs of the Owner, a very experienced yachtsman who has owned and chartered numerous Feadships over recent years.

An advanced hybrid propulsion system has been installed in keeping with the Owner’s desire to ensure the efficiency and environmental impact of the 94m (308ft) yacht is the same as his previous Feadship, despite that being some 32m (105ft) shorter. The end result will mean  VIVA can cruise comfortably at 12 knots on diesel-electric power.

The superyacht's styling is clean and linear, with all exterior doors flush with the design and operating on electric sliding mechanisms, as part of the Owner’s less-is-more philosophy.

A further prominent feature of the latest Feadship build is its floor-to-ceiling windows, which also play a key role in its open beach house-style interior by Peter Marino Architects. The exterior design comes courtesy of Azure Yacht Design and Naval Architecture and Studio De Voogt.

This comes at the start of another busy year for Feadship with eight superyachts set to be delivered in 2021, the largest of which will be the 95m (312ft) Project 1009. She will take her place in Feadship's top ten superyachts by length, a list headed by 110m (361ft) ANNA, when she is handed over to her Owner.

It is not yet known whether VIVA will become available for luxury yacht charters.

Viva crashes into Fort Lauderdale bridge

The 94-metre viva wedged itself against a bridge in fort lauderdale, despite the captain and crew’s best efforts….

Viva raised eyebrows on Wednesday 10 September when it became lodged against the 17th Street Bridge in Fort Lauderdale. The 94-metre Feadship, delivered in 2021, was navigating the waterways when it wedged itself precariously close to the bridge, leaving onlookers both shocked and amused. Fortunately, the incident did not result in major damage to either the yacht or the bridge.

Among those witnessing the incident was Brant Reid, captain of Luxuria Vida , who offered some valuable insights to SuperyachtNews. “It happened early in the morning by the Hilton Hotel,” Reid recalls.

“I’m relatively new to this, so seeing a yacht of that size pull off that kind of manoeuvre, I wanted to stay and see how the pros do it. Needless to say, I was taught a lesson in what not to do.”

Reid admitted he wasn’t entirely sure what went wrong. “Maybe it was mechanical? It might have been due to the tide or the current, perhaps? But I can’t be sure exactly. From my perspective, it looked more like it was down to the current.”

As the situation unfolded, Reid closely observed the captain’s actions. “As the yacht began to turn, I did wonder what the captain was actually trying to do because it was easy to see it was going to run into some issues,” he explained. As Viva edged closer to the bridge, Reid noticed the crew scrambling to mitigate the impending impact.

“The crew began frantically getting the fenders out, but it ended up colliding with the bridge, and it must have done some substantial damage, cosmetically at least, as there was a very loud screech as it connected,” continues Reid.

“The yacht was moving back and forth, with little to no movement in getting ot out of the situation. At one point, the captain came out, looked over the starboard side, then shook his head and returned to the bridge. It must’ve taken him a while to get out of there, as it looked pretty stuck.”

Despite the crew’s efforts, Viva remained lodged for some time before eventually freeing itself and continuing on its journey, reportedly docking at the Port of Savannah shortly after. While the incident caused a minor delay, it appeared the damage was more cosmetic than structural.

While Viva had long been known for its advanced design and cutting-edge features, this incident served as a reminder that even the most experienced captains and sophisticated yachts can run into challenges.

Meanwhile, rumours are that Frank Fertitta, who played a major role in transforming the UFC into a global powerhouse before selling it in 2016, may have sold Viva to billionaire Ken Griffin, though no official confirmation has been made. Griffin, the CEO of Citadel and one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, is known for his interest in luxury assets, including a record-breaking $238 million penthouse in New York City.
