RIG INSPECTION AND SERVICING

Regular rig inspections and servicing should be part of any owner’s schedule. Our expert team can identify wear and tear before it becomes a big problem, keeping your rig safe and strong, and saving you money on big bills later.

Spars are the big-ticket items in your boat’s rig, and you want to be sure you’re getting the best. We work with leading manufacturers such as Selden-Proctor, Z-Spars, and Axxon to supply and fit the right spars for your boat. We can step and un-step masts at our waterside workshop in Penryn, but we’re also fully mobile in bringing this service to you.

STANDING RIGGING AND FURLING SYTEMS

The strength of your rig is in the standing rigging, and there are a lot of options when it comes to materials and terminals. Working with top suppliers including Sta-Lok, Petersen, BSI and Blue Wave, we’ll help you keep your standing rigging solid and trustworthy. We also supply and fit the best furling systems from manufacturers like Bamar and Selden, making sail furling easy and stress free.

DECK HARDWARE

We can design and fit stylish and intuitive deck plans, making your boat safe and simple to sail. With all your essential controls easily at hand, you can enjoy sailing at its purest, tangle free and with minimal effort. We supply and fit winches, traveller systems, sheet tracks, and much more, using suppliers such as Harken, Lewmar, Andersen, and Spinlok. We can also service your existing hardware, keeping your boat’s sailing systems smooth, efficient, and safe.

Ropes are the arteries of your boat’s rig, transferring loads to the structure of the boat and pulling it through the water. So they need to be strong and properly spliced. Using respected suppliers, such as English Braids and Liros, we can spec the right rope and size for the job, to get the most out of your sailplan. We also make made-to-measure mooring strops, decorative ropework, and soft shackles. If there’s anything else you’d like made from rope, just ask. We can do it.

Whether you’re racing or cruising, a well tuned rig is fundamental to a well performing boat. In racing terms it can be the difference between getting to the windward mark first, and fighting it out in the pack with the also-rans. For cruisers it’s an issue of safety and comfort. A well balanced boat gives it’s owner confidence at sea and makes it easier to sail, saving wear and tear on crew and autopilots. SERVICES: 

Led by one of the most experienced yacht riggers in the South West, we are able to complete your project to the highest of standards. 

As part of our service, we will offer friendly advice, with safety and functional longevity our highest priority. 

Whatever your rigging needs, we will work with you to see your project through from start to finish.

You may be looking for a full re-rig, a simple part replacement, or somewhere in between. Either way, contact us and we'll be happy to talk you through your options. 

Standing rigging  

We will conduct a thorough visual check of the standing rigging, paying particular attention to end terminal fittings and areas where bending fatigue is most likely. Our report will also include our findings on the overall condition of the mast and rigging at the date of the inspection.  

Running rigging  

Running rigging is visually checked for condition. All materials are checked for UV breakdown, and wear and tear. 

Condition  

We will report on visual condition only at the time of the report. We will take into account, the age of the stay and its material when checking the condition. 

Remaining working life  

We cannot estimate the remaining working life of the halyard or stay assembly, as future UV breakdown and bending fatigue cannot be measured.  

Hidden defects   

It is not possible to detect internal fractures in the wire (which are commonly found in older rigging) from a visual check. Fibre or UV breakdown in rope assemblies can be estimated only by visual checking. 

Masts and Spars  

We visually check masts and spars for overall condition. Depending on access, it may not be possible to check certain areas while the mast is in situ.  

Summary   

Any areas of concern will be reported in our findings along with recommended actions.  

Our findings are reported following a visual rig check only; therefore, we cannot guarantee that all components are fit for purpose. The report is based on observations made on the date of the rig check and should not be relied upon as an exhaustive list of all possible issues that exist or potential improvements that can be made.

One of the UK’s most renowned yacht rigging and spar fabrication experts has become the first boating and marine-related business to relocate to Falmouth Harbour’s new Marine Hub.

Allspars have added workshops and office units at the Falmouth Harbour Marine Hub in Grove Place to their marine bases in Plymouth and the Solent, supplying state of the art services to leisure and racing yachts in local waters and across the globe.

“Falmouth Harbour is responsible for a huge body of water and a variety of stakeholders and we are very excited to be offering opportunities for marine businesses to work alongside us right in the heart of our historic town,” says Falmouth Harbour’s Head of Commercial Operations Holly Manvell. “For centuries our harbour has been a centre for building, servicing and teaching just about everything ‘marine’, so to help provide facilities, skills and opportunities to continue this legacy is both a privilege and a responsibility for our team. Allspars are renowned for their quality and team spirit, and we are delighted to welcome them as our Marine Hub’s inaugural tenants.”

Falmouth Harbour’s Marine Hub of related operations, working alongside traditional boat storage on the Harbour’s Grove Park waterfront site, aims to make a variety of marine services readily accessible to the wider Falmouth boating community as well as visitors throughout the year.

“Accessibility to key services like rigging and boat repairs is a major component for getting out and enjoying the water in the season ahead – and as a Harbour Authority it’s a major component of safety in our waters,” says Holly. “Our Marine Hub of “pods” will become a colony of expertise for our boating community to easily tap into.”

Formed more than 25 years ago, the award-winning Allspars has evolved into one of the world’s largest rigging companies with a reputation for excellence in the industry. Their team is made up of sailors who combine their love of the water with both extensive experience in sailing vessels of all shapes and sizes and technical and engineering knowledge.

“The opportunity to relocate our Falmouth operations to the new Marine Hub in Falmouth Harbour was too good to turn down,” says Matt Pullen from Allspars. “The quayside access will be a huge asset to the business and the services we can offer onsite and this move is a mark of our commitment to provide Falmouth and the wider sailing community with our masts and rigging services. As a full service boatyard and marina, we offer full refits, restorations, and upgrade services for our guests fleets. Excellent marina. Personnel are skilled and helpful. Docks are beautiful. Best shower facility I have experienced and located perfectly in active Harbor. Had another fun visit to MacDougalls for the road race. The dock crew are experienced and very helpful. I realized I needed to extend our stay by a night and they made it happen without a fuss. good group great well run marina.
