The vessel is reportedly bow-up on the rocks, and has sustained structural damage to the bulb, bow and hull. The hull has allegedly punctured forward – while there is no water ingress at present, there are concerns of her sustaining further damage on the rocks. The cause is thought to be a navigational track error and propulsion failure, although this information is not yet confirmed. The situation is said to be resolvable with a hull patch and ballast placed aft, however weather conditions have not favoured her removal, but are improving. Gage Rowden7 Senior MemberOMG NO!! One of my favorite yachts... Dang.. Serene just got back from refit recently as well. I bet the owner isn't too happy with this! German Yachting Senior Memberhttps://instagram.com/p/BZgHvlAjbI-/ Scott W Senior MemberHoly moly. That's a significant grounding considering how little tidal range there is in the Red Sea, particularly in the central Red Sea (think a couple feet, at most and if that). I'm not sure a 'patch and ballast' is going to dislodge her from that position. Well that sucks! One of my favorites.. Hope they can get it out and get it fixed.. I heard all devices were searched for images of the vessel high and dry. 134m Fincantieri-Built Superyacht Serene Runs Aground in Red Sea A navigation track error and propulsion failure reportedly caused the incident, although that information has not been confirmed. The situation is expected to be resolved with a hull patch ad ballast placed aft. Weather conditions have not been favorable, however, but are improving. Fincantieri built Serene in 2011. She was sold to her current owner for an undisclosed price in 2015, with estimated ranging from €350 million to €550 million. Related PostsUK Edition Change- UK Politics

Footage has emerged of the moment a £16 million luxury Italian superyacht sunk off the coast of a Greek island . The 47-metre yacht was spotted lurching to one side when sailing near Paliokaravo Bay, Kefalonia, which is west of the Greek mainland. Five tourists and five crew members were successfully evacuated from the vessel as it ran aground in Evretis Bay where it then anchored, according to local outlet Gazetta . One of the crew members reportedly left a side door open allowing an influx of water when the weather in the area “turned”, Greek website Protothema reported. The crew did not notice the open door until it was too late and the vessel, called Ethos, had started sinking. Safety systems were activated effectively and the crew of Ethos - which was flying the flag of Malta - disembarked without any injury. A private boat at the scene helped to tug the yacht as two harbour guards oversaw the operation, with a professional diver expected to inspect the underside of the boat. Earlier this year the boat underwent renovation after being purchased for $16 million by its new owner, who received the yacht in September last year. Ethos was built in 2014 by Admiral and can host up to 12 guests and nine crew members onboard its steel and aluminium structure. Renters can enjoy stays with a gym, jacuzzi, steam room and jetskis onboard the yacht - but will have to fork out a huge £180,000 to do so for a week. The upper deck boasts a master suite, a vast dining area, Turkish bath and a Sauter piano - but the luxury vessel will be out of action for the foreseeable future as work gets underway to pump the water out of the boat. It comes just days after a yacht turned on its side entirely off Chesapeake Bay in the US state of Maryland, with five people on board as the 122-foot boat turned on its side. The yacht sunk in just five minutes with passengers having to be rescued from the water after they abandoned ship on Saturday. No casualties were reported. Watch: 31m Wally sailing yacht washed ashore following storm in Formentera, SpainThe 30.5-metre Wally sailing yacht Wally Love has run aground following a storm on the Spanish island of Formentera. Footage taken by a bystander shows the yacht out of the water and listing on her starboard side close to shore. Several other sailing yachts have run aground alongside her. The State Meteorological Agency informed the public of a "strong destabilisation of the atmosphere" yesterday (13 August). View this post on Instagram A post shared by Katia Damborsky (@theyachtwriter) The latest weather update was published an hour ago and warned of hail "exceeding two centimetres in diameter" and very strong gusts of winds in excess of 100km per hour. A number of other 24-metre-plus builds are in the direct vicinity according to BOATPro , including the 35-metre Benetti Sea Belle and the 29.1-metre Sanlorenzo yacht Francamarina . At the time of writing, local news outlets have claimed that more than a dozen sailing boats are aground. Several injuries have also been reported but are unconfirmed. Wally Love was delivered in 2007 to a design by Luca Bassani . She is equipped for bluewater cruising and has a family friendly layout which includes a line-free cockpit, a versatile foredeck for entertaining and a swim platform that lowers into the water. They were almost in deep ship! A superyacht capsized in the Chesapeake Bay near Washington, DC , forcing passengers to plunge into the water as it sank — and prompting a dramatic rescue, authorities said. The splashy, 122-foot vessel, known as the Lovebug, began taking on water around 12:30 p.m. Saturday near Edgewater, Maryland, police and witnesses told CBS Baltimore . Striking footage shows the $8 million superyacht — which docks at the Annapolis Yacht Club and costs $125,000 to charter per week — sinking on its side in a heavily traveled area near the mouth of the West River. Trevor Hardman was in a boat nearby when he realized folks onboard were up a creek. “It slowly started to list and lean over to one side,” Hardman, who works at Boat Annapolis, told the station. “I would say within four to five minutes the boat was consumed and the captain had made the determination that they needed to abandon ship.” All five people on the yacht, who were not identified, jumped into the water from the stern of the vessel as Hardman radioed for help, he said. They were all pulled to safety, with no major injuries, by first responders, the station reported. The captain, who was not identified, was baffled by what may have caused the yacht to capsize, said Hardman, who spoke to the seaman after he was plucked from the bay. “In the moment, I was like, ‘Did you run aground? He was like, ‘No … We were taking on water,’” Hardman said. “Boats of that size have alarms that tell you when there’s water inside the boat.” Police are investigating what caused the nautical mishap. “The biggest thing now is just to get the vessel salvaged so that we can hopefully get some clues as to what happened,” said Cpl. Christopher Neville of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police. The Italian-made yacht, which was previously named Anastasia M, features jet ski storage and a small pool along with enough room to host 11 guests and seven crew members, according to boatinternational.com . After the vessel capsized, first responders set up barriers around the yacht to contain a potential fuel leak, but authorities don’t believe any spilled, CBS reported. One person aboard the yacht complained of head soreness after the rescue but declined to go to the hospital. “It could have been a lot worse had everybody not remained calm and spoke on the radio and were clear to make sure that everybody was accounted for,” Hardman said. The marine service Towboats US also helped with the rescue, he said. Advertisement |

Running aground has to be near the top in the pantheon of nightmare scenarios for yacht captains. Being at the helm when the boat is damaged and inducing the guests to spill their drinks is bad enough. But the mauling to the skipper's reputation can be even worse. Careers have been fatally holed below the waterline by less.
