Rap artist Lil Yachty was forced to cancel his Vancouver concert on Saturday night after just a few songs due to safety concerns when attendees in the stands rushed onto the floor and toward the stage.

Videos posted to social media platforms show the rapper encouraging audience members to join the venue's general admission section on the floor of the arena, calling on them to "fill it up."

The concert was held at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

In a statement released Sunday afternoon, UBC said arena staff and concert promoter Live Nation made the joint decision to cancel the concert.

"During the performance, the artist had invited attendees from reserved seating in the stands to join the floor area. This put the floor area over capacity, so UBC and Live Nation staff paused the show to direct audience members back to their seats," said the statement.

But it says when Lil Yachty reappeared, the floor began to fill again, and staff decided to cancel the show "out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of concert-goers top of mind."

"We are unaware of any significant medical or police incidents arising from the show's cancellation," says the statement.

Sebastian Stratford, 18, says the energy of the crowd changed when the rapper invited people to the floor.

"Heat of the moment, everybody started storming it," said Stratford. "Everybody just started hopping the wall."

Although Stratford was disappointed his first-ever concert was cut short, he said he understands why the decision was made.

"It's just unfortunate, but it's not the end of the world," he said.

CBC News has reached out to Live Nation to ask if attendees will be refunded for the event.

Rapper Lil Yachty's Vancouver concert cancelled after fans rush the floor

Rapper Lil Yachty’s show in Vancouver was halted after only a few songs on Saturday night after he encouraged fans in the stands to rush the floor.

Videos posted to social media show the artist telling the crowd to “come on over” and “fill it up,” and attendees appearing to jump over barriers to join the general admission area.

The videos then show the lights at UBC’s Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre turning on, and Lil Yachty telling fans that security will shut down the concert.

“They’re saying we have to go back to the seats or I have to cancel the show,” he’s heard announcing.

In statement to CTV News Sunday, the University of British Columbia said arena staff and Live Nation ultimately decided to cancel the performance part way through due to safety concerns.

“During the performance, the artist had invited attendees from reserved seating in the stands to join the floor area. This put the floor area over capacity, so UBC and Live Nation staff paused the show to direct audience members back to their seats,” a spokesperson wrote.

“When the performer reappeared, the floor began to fill again. At that time, out of an abundance of caution and with the safety of concert-goers top of mind, the joint decision was made to cancel the remainder of the show.”

The spokesperson added that the arena is not aware of any “significant medical or police incidents” as a result of the show’s abrupt cancellation.

Lil Yachty himself took to Instagram on Sunday, posting a video of the incident and writing, “They shut us down last night Vancouver.”

Grammy-nominated Lil Yachty’s performance at UBC’s Thunderbird Sports Centre was shut down shortly after it started Saturday, due to safety concerns.

A few songs in, the rapper asked the crowd to fill the mosh pit.

“You don’t come to a Lil Yachty show to (stay in) your seats,” he said in a video he posted to Instagram . “Come down here! Come over! Fill it up!”

At this point, the crowd rushed the stage. Multiple videos posted online show several audience members jumping over a security fence near the stage.

Videos then show security telling the crowd that everyone had to head back to their seats if they wanted the show to start back up.

When this did not happen, the venue put an end to the performance.

“They shut us down last night, Vancouver,” Lil Yachty posted to Instagram, along with a video of the incident.

Vancouver rap show cancelled after crowd rushes floor

lil-yachty-leaves-vancouver-stage

After just a handful of songs, Lil Yachty had to sail away after his Vancouver show was cancelled.

The show at UBC's Thunderbird Sports Centre Saturday night (Oct. 21) started normally, but after the Grammy-nominated rapper asked the crowd to rush the stage, security shut the show down.

Several videos on social media catch the moment Lil Yachty told the crowd to get in the mosh pit, calling for attendees to "fill it up." Audience members who had been in the arena's seated area appeared to hop the security fence around the floor area and charge toward the stage.

In the videos, it appears that a short time later the show was cut short, after only a few songs from the headliner. The lights in the venue are turned on and Lil Yachty comes out to ask the crowd to return to their seats.

"I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know," he tells the crowd. "They say have to go back to the seats or we're going to have to cancel the show."

It appears the crowd did not return to their seats in an orderly fashion, and the show was officially cancelled. On social media some people in attendance note it was security who made the final call.

On Instagram Lil Yachty himself has posted footage from the show, showing the crowd coming down to the stage front.

"They shut us down last night Vancouver," he writes.

In a statement issued Sunday, Oct. 22 afternoon, UBC stated safety was the reason for the cancelled concert; the university notes venue staff and Live Nation, the event's promoter, decided together.

"During the performance, the artist had invited attendees from reserved seating in the stands to join the floor area," states UBC.

"This put the floor area over capacity, so UBC and Live Nation staff paused the show to direct audience members back to their seats. When the performer reappeared, the floor began to fill again."

It was at that point the plug was pulled on the show.

"We are unaware of any significant medical or police incidents arising from the show's cancellation," notes UBC.

V.I.A. has reached out to police and will update this story once details are released.

Warning, some videos contain strong language.

The rapper was playing at the 7,000-capacity Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre last night (October 21), and before he performed ‘Slide’, he invited the concertgoers in the stands to come down into the arena floor and join the mosh pit.

Lil Yachty can be heard telling his fans to “fill it up,” referring to the arena’s main floor in front of the stage, as they came down from higher arena sections.

However, various eyewitnesses have alleged that security pulled the plug on the show when concertgoers refused to leave the pit. In footage of the incident, Lil Yachty could also be heard asking people to return to their seats.

Lil Yachty has not yet commented on the incident. NME has approached his representatives for comment.

Elsewhere, Lil Yachty recently collaborated with Drake on a new song, ‘Another Late Night’, which appears on the latter’s new album ‘For All The Dogs’ .

Before the album came out, Lil Yachty said it would see Drake dealing “with some controversial things” .

Earlier this year, the rapper released a new rock album ‘Let’s Start Here’, marking a departure from his usual trap-pop stylings.

‘Let’s Start Here’ features production by Chairlift’s Patrick Wimberly,  Unknown Mortal Orchestra  bassist Jacob Portrait and synth-pop duo  Magdalena Bay . Guest performers include  Daniel Caesar ,  Fousheé ,  Teezo Touchdown , Justine Skye and Diana Gordon while  Mac DeMarco  is credited as a writer on two tracks – ‘Drive Me Crazy!’ and ‘Failure’.

The record was inspired by the likes of  Tame Impala ‘s ‘Currents’,  Pink Floyd ‘s seminal ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’ and  Frank Ocean ‘s ‘Blonde’.

“To be honest, I’ve always been so much more than just hip-hop,”  he said in an interview with  Billboard .

He continued: “There’s a lot of kids who haven’t heard any of my references. They don’t know anything about  Bon Iver  or Pink Floyd or  Black Sabbath  or  James Brown . I wanted to show people a different side of me — and that I can do anything, most importantly.”

Lil Yachty Concert Abruptly Shut Down After He Incites Pandemonium In Crowd

Lil Yachty ‘s tour stop in Vancouver was forced to come to a halt this week after he inadvertently incited pandemonium in the crowd.

The incident went down on Saturday (October 21), when Lil Boat’s ‘Field Trip Tour’ made its way to the Canadian city. According to video footage from the night, Yachty was shouting “fill it up” from the moment he started performing, directing the crowd to descend toward the mosh pit area of the arena.

His fans were more than happy to oblige and started climbing over railings and security guards – which, unsurprisingly, quickly resulted in chaos. According to TMZ , the “One Night” rapper was able to do about three or four more songs, but his mic was then promptly cut off and the house lights came on. However, the show still wasn’t over, as a voice over the speakers simply told the crowd to head back to their seats, which Yachty encouraged.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough, and the show was ultimately shut down. You can view footage from the night below.

Earlier this month, Toronto attendees at Lil Yachty’s Field Trip Tour were treated to a surprise appearance from their hometown hero, Drake .

Lil Boat brought his Field Trip Tour to HISTORY, where Drizzy was lurking in the crowd up in the balcony section. Needless to say, the 6 God’s presence didn’t go unnoticed and at some point during the show he jumped on the mic himself.

“Aye Boat,” Drake said while rocking colorful hair accessories. “I know you been going crazy tonight. First of all, I just wanna say, y’all make some noise for one of my best friends in the muthafuckin’ world.

“You been going crazy tonight. I haven’t been home in four months, so you take yourself a little break. I’ma try some shit out.”

From the comfort of the VIP section, Drake then proceeded to perform his “Meltdown” collaboration from Travis Scott ‘s UTOPIA , which sent the hometown crowd into a frenzy.

Drake’s appearance at Lil Yachty’s show arrived on the heels of the “Poland” rapper explaining how they differ in terms of how they approach life and music.

“Me and him are kind of different when it comes to lifestyle,” Yachty recently told Complex . “We’re really similar as people, but as far as life, we’re very different. I don’t go out, he loves to go out, he loves to host people, he loves to party and I don’t like people that much.”

He continued: “And I record every day all day, where he kind of is very selective on his recording days as he has more of a life than I do. And, he is much more into actually living life as to where I am literally trying to record music every day.

Lil yachty appears to encourage fans to rush stage, show canceled, lil yachty appears to encourage fans to rush stage before show halts.

Lil Yachty seems to be responsible for getting his own concert canceled early this weekend -- because not long before the plug got pulled ... he was telling folks to come on down.

The rapper was performing Saturday night in Vancouver, BC ... and toward the beginning of his set at the University of British Columbia's Thunderbird Arena -- which looked to be packed -- the ticketholders could be seen pouring down onto the main floor and rushing the stage.

102223-lil-yachty-crowd-primary

Take a look for yourself ... in footage obtained by TMZ -- you can see tons of young people descending toward the mosh pit area of the arena, seemingly at LY's behest.

Eyewitnesses tell us Yachty was shouting "fill it up" as he was starting to perform the very first song of his set list ... and his fans obliged, with tons of folks climbing over railings and security guards to get to the mosh pit area and be as close to Yachty as possible.

102223-lil-yachty-lights-on-primary

We're told Yachty did 3 or 4 songs under these conditions, but then his mic was cut off and the house lights came on. Someone over the speaker told everyone to go back to their seats -- something Yachty himself encouraged, saying the show would be over if they didn't.

Sounds like people didn't head back fast enough ... 'cause our sources say when Yachty trying launching into yet another song, the sound was gone -- and the gig was canceled.

No word on whether anyone was hurt here ... but it goes without saying, rushing the stage like that can be dangerous. We've reached out to Yachty's rep ... so far, no word back.

Lil Yachty's Vancouver Show Abruptly Canceled After He Appears To Rile Up Crowd

Lil Yachty was scheduled to perform at the Thunderbird Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia on Saturday night (October 22), but the show didn’t go according to plan. Per  TMZ , the 26-year-old rapper appeared to encourage the crowd to rush the stage, causing organizers to pull the plug. Concert attendees claimed Lil Yachty was yelling “fill it up” as he started his set. Fans then began climbing over railings and security guards to get to the mosh pit area to be as close to Lil Yachty as possible.

After performing three or four songs, Lil Yachty’s mic was cut and the house lights were turned on. Someone then announced over the speaker that if attendees didn’t return to their seats, the show would be canceled. Evidently, they didn’t follow orders quickly enough and the show ended prematurely.

Concert promoters have been on high alert since 2021, when Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival ended in tragedy. During the show, a crowd surge ultimately led to 10 deaths. Scott faced questioning in a deposition for various lawsuits filed against him last month. It marked the first opportunity for attorneys to question Scott about the horrific incident.

“Travis Scott’s deposition is typical legal procedure,” Ted Anastasiou, a spokesperson for Scott, said in a statement. “What is not typical is how the media continues to focus on him despite being cleared of any wrongdoing by extensive government investigations, including by the Houston Police Department. Travis is fully cooperating with the legal process while still remaining committed to his tour in support of his record-breaking album, ‘Utopia,’ and his charitable efforts to support at-risk communities.”

More than 1,500 cases were filed against Scott and other parties involved in the Astroworld Festival. Live Nation reached settlements with some of the families of victims who died. No charges were filed against Scott following an investigation by the Houston Police Department. A grand jury also declined to indict him and five other people on any criminal counts related to the deadly concert. Police Chief Troy Finner wouldn’t explain his agency’s overall conclusion.
