During its 48-year history, Pinmar has expanded its operations across Europe including offices in Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and La Ciotat, and established US operations with bases at Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Savannah, Georgia, as well as establishing partnerships with the largest New Build shipyards.

As the size and complexity of new superyachts continues to increase, Pinmar has also increased its capabilities, with the average yacht size for projects increasing from 55 metres to nearly 80 metres since 2012.

Research & Development

Pinmar has played a key role in recent years in driving the adoption of the latest technologies and application methods within the industry. Our equipment is developed to accommodate advancing technology whilst always being conscious of the environment.

Our pioneering adoption of electrostatic paint application in the European superyacht industry, recently introduced into the US superyacht Refit market as well , and a collaborative research project trialling the application methodology for a new spray filler product are good case points.

We are invested in sharing technologies across all our locations that yield a positive impact for the shipyards, the clients, the environment and better overall long-term performance for the yacht owners.

KEY PERSONNEL

Remy millott - chief executive officer.

Remy has over 40 years of yachting industry experience having commenced his offshore career in 1982, becoming one of the industry’s youngest yacht Captains at the time. He joined Pinmar in 1996 and became Managing Director in 2003, growing the company extensively. He has led several acquisitions and mergers at Pinmar since then, including the formation of GYG in 2012. As Group CEO he successfully listed GYG plc on the London AIM Stock Market in 2017 and continues in this role since taking the company private as GYG Ltd in 2022.

Rupert Savage - CCO/Director

Rupert was a highly respected yacht captain for over 16 years and is still a keen racing yachtsman. He moved ashore and joined Rolling Stock in 2006 where he became Managing Director and was instrumental in the development and growth of the business into a leading player in the yacht painting and service sector. Rupert has been responsible for the integration of the various Group companies, running the business on a day to day basis. He is now focused on the Group's commercial development and continues to be influential in the strategic growth of the business.

Ada Cañellas - Corporate Legal & HR Director

Ada has a Degree in Law from the University of Navarra, MBA from IESE and a Masters in human resources management. She began her career as a recruitment consultant and for the last 15 years she has directed Human Resources and Legal departments in technology, service, and food-based companies. A multi-disciplinary professional with knowledge of all areas of Human Resources with special attention to personal development and personnel administration, including her extensive experience in Spanish and European labour law.

Peter Brown - Director

Peter has been involved in the Superyacht industry for over 40 years, having had a successful career at sea, including as a yacht captain, for over 16 years. He joined Pinmar in 1998 to develop the Barcelona facility and later became the General Manager of Pinmar. Peter headed up the expansion of Pinmar into the New Build sector in Germany in 2005, after which he took over Pinmar's USA operations as Managing Director. As Peter continues to run the US business and its expansion, he also supports the Group and the CEO on special projects using his deep experience of the yachting industry.

Alexander Swain - President, North America

Alex brings more than 30 years of global business development and production management experience to Pinmar and is most recognised in the marine industry for his previous roles at MB92 Barcelona and more recently at Jotun’s global yachting division. During his 12 years in senior management at MB92, Alex was instrumental in delivering rapid, sustainable business growth while achieving customer quality expectations, and was part of the original team who formed the ICOMIA Superyacht Refit Group. His specialist role at Jotun focused on the development of their global yachting division, including roll-out strategies in emerging markets such as the US and Asia. Alex will be responsible for Pinmar’s business operations in the USA and will provide greater synergy between our US and European operations. Alex will be sharing his time between Pinmar’s main USA bases at Rybovich West Palm Beach, Derecktors Fort Lauderdale and Savannah Yacht Centre as he looks to expand the company’s turnkey services with its existing partners and across the American superyacht market.

Manu Ayme - Sales Director

Manu Ayme joined Rolling Stock in 2006 in a logistical support role during the construction of two new builds in the South of Spain. After that he followed the business around Europe with extensive spells in Pendennis, Cartagena and Viareggio to eventually join up with the team at the Palma de Mallorca headquarters in the summer of 2008. During his time in Palma he held a number of management positions within the company, and after the merger with Pinmar in 2012 to create GYG he was co-heading the Groups’ global production division. His vast 'hands on' technical experience and management skills led to his latest role of Sales Director, where he applies his knowledge to perfectly understand our clients’ needs and can fulfil their expectations.

James Millott - Production Director

James began his career with Pinmar in 2006 in northern Germany. Starting out in logistics and quality control, he worked his way up to project manager and quickly showed a high level of technical understanding. Based in Germany for 9 years, James became the senior project manager for the company’s Northern European business, successfully completing many of the industry’s largest and most iconic new builds. In 2015, James became the joint head of production of GYG which is the parent company of Pinmar; he now splits his time between the company’s headquarters in Mallorca and overseas projects including the USA. Still heavily involved in every aspect of the Group’s production and quality control, James is working on the Group’s technical development in order to improve quality and efficiency. Built up over many years, James has vast technical and practical knowledge of the coatings business as well as working with very large teams on multiple projects in different locations which has been key in the Group’s international growth.

What is a Chandlery

In medieval times, a chandlery was the area of the house which kept candles and the wax used to make candles., origins of the chandlery the term "chandler" originates from the old french word "chandelier," which itself comes from the latin "candela," meaning candle. in medieval times the primary source of light during darkness, before electricity, was often candles, and also used in religious ceremonies. chandlers were originally candle makers and sellers, crafting candles from beeswax and animal fat (tallow). the chandlery was the store which kept candles and the wax used to make candles. the chandlery transition into maritime supply during the 15th and 16th centuries maritime trade and exploration expanded and the role of the chandler evolved significantly. the chandler selling candles at seaports to the seafarers soon found that long voyages required more variety of essential goods including rope, tar, sailcloth, tools, anchors as well as candles. this, in turn, saw the simple candle supplier transform into suppliers of a wide array of goods and maritime accessories. the naval dominance of the british empire and its navy needed a healthy and well organised supply chain to serve and support its ships. fast becoming indispensable, the chandleries were now providing ships with everything needed for a long voyage. this diversification marked the beginning of the chandler’s role as a maritime supplier. the east india company being one of many who relied on the chandleries for outfitting their ships bound for far away shores. global trade of chandleries the 17th and 18th centuries, often referred to as the golden age of sail, saw an explosion in global trade and naval warfare. chandleries flourished during this period, particularly in major port cities like london, amsterdam, and boston. ships setting off on long voyages required extensive provisions, and chandleries rose to the occasion, stocking items ranging from food and fresh water to navigational instruments and medical supplies. the chandlers role extends beyond mere provision, the chandler often acted as intermediaries between ship owners, captains, and various suppliers, ensuring that ships were adequately prepared for the challenges of the sea. this period also saw the rise of specialized maritime chandleries that catered specifically to the needs of naval ships, commercial vessels, and fishing fleets. industrial revolution and beyond the advent of the industrial revolution in the 19th century brought significant changes to the chandler trade. the introduction of steam power and the subsequent decline of sail-powered vessels gradually transformed the nature of maritime commerce. however, chandleries continued to thrive by adapting to new technologies and expanding their product ranges. chandleries began to stock these new essentials, such as coal and machinery parts and spares for the steamships. additionally, the development of railroads and improved road infrastructure meant that chandleries could serve a broader customer base, including inland waterway industries and domestic markets. the diversification continued, with some chandleries branching out into general hardware stores, supplying tools, paints, and building materials. the modern chandlery in the 20th century, with the advent of container shipping and advanced logistics, the traditional role of the chandlery underwent further transformation. large-scale industrial suppliers and specialised marine equipment companies began to dominate the market. despite these changes, traditional chandleries persisted, especially in smaller ports and coastal communities where they retained their charm and utility. today, modern chandleries are a blend of old and new. they still cater to the needs of recreational sailors, fishing boats, and smaller commercial vessels, offering a mix of traditional maritime supplies and modern equipment. with the rise of the internet, many chandleries have also established online stores, expanding their reach beyond local ports. cultural impact and legacy the legacy of the chandlery is not just in the goods they provided but also in their cultural and social impact. chandleries were often communal spaces where sailors, ship owners, and locals would gather, exchange news, and share stories. they were integral to the social fabric
