The Whitby 45 is a sailboat that was first introduced in 1968 by the Whitby Boat Works company, based in Ontario, Canada. This offshore cruiser was designed by Ted Brewer and features a center cockpit, full keel, and cutter rig. It is constructed with a solid fiberglass hull, which makes it a sturdy and durable vessel. With a length of 45 feet and a beam of 13 feet, the Whitby 45 has plenty of room for comfortable living and cruising.

Boat is located in La Paz BCS, Mexico.

Built as As a Ior racer very well built and fast and smooth sailing under all conditions, equipped and fun to sail was raced on the Great Lakes for many years and 5 times from RhoadRoad Island to Bermuda.Also sailed from California to Australia Australia averaging 200 miles per day.We have sailed her from California to Mexico and the Sea of Cortez , She is well equipped with radar radios windvain auto pilot, dingy and outboard motor and sails.

I love this boat but am getting o getting old and would like to go to a smaller boat for some time.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

WHITBY 45 MKII (1980+ only 2 or 3 built): Draft was reduced to 6’. (cast lead keel made longer and thicker and swept-back rudder was redesigned to be more vertical.) The deck was raised .16’. to increase headroom, the former low coachroof was extended for and aft, and the cockpit divider was eliminated. The sail plan remained the same, but the interior was completely redesigned.

La Porte pipeline fire erupts as smoke fills sky in Texas

A huge pipeline fire erupted in La Porte, Texas , on Monday morning (16 September), dramatic footage shows.

Firefighters were dispatched to the blaze in the 8700 block of Spencer Highway at 9:55am, the city’s Office of Emergency Managament said.

An evacuation was ordered for between Spencer Highway and Fairmont Parkway between Luella and Canada Road in the Brookglen neighborhood area.

Residents were urged to avoid the area and follow law enforcement direction.

The cause of the fire was not immediately confirmed.
