A classic 122-foot fantail motor yacht. A tour of the interior of the vessel offers beautifully appointed state rooms. An excellent vessel for Corporate meetings, weddings, sweet sixteen’s, film shoots, and any reason to have a party large or small.

MARINER III

Mariner III was built in 1926 for Captain James Griffiths of Griffiths Steamship Company. This classic 122′ fantail motor yacht, was designed by Ted Geary. Traveling to China to select the lumber for her construction, Captain Griffiths chose 3″ teak planking for the hull and very strong wood, called yacal, for framing. Originally named “SueJa III,” Captain Griffiths used the yacht to travel up and down the West Coast.

In keeping with its original 1920’s design and the flavor of that era, the Mariner II was. restored to its old world charm with deep, rich, patterned furnishings, beautifully varnished woodwork, and polished solid brass fixtures.

Her reputation for excellence is known throughout New York, New England, Florida and the Caribbean. She has enjoyed guests on board from Jacques Cousteau, the Rockefellers, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Robert Deniro, Don Henley, Jimmy Buffett and Madonna, in addition to a long list of corporate giants from across the country. You might recognize her from magazine ads for Ralph Lauren and Maybelline, fashion and travel editorials in The New York Times Magazine and many layouts in Victoria’s Secret catalogs.

Today, the Mariner III is one of the few luxury yachts afloat that offers her guests the classic opulence of days gone by.

Inside, great care has been taken to maintain the integrity of her styling. From the solid mahogany table that seats eight on the aft deck. To the extravagance of having two full-size bathtubs aboard.

Her fully air-conditioned interior provides six staterooms, all richly paneled in polished teak, plus quarters for a crew of six. Guest accommodations include two full-width master staterooms, one with a king-size bed and private tub, and one with a queen-size bed and private head with shower, three single staterooms and one V-Berth.

Her well-appointed main salon is outfitted with an entertainment center, complete with stereo, TV and VCR.

Directly above, the Mariner III’s enormous sun deck offers the ideal spot for private sunbathing. From here her twin powerboats may be launched for fishing or a private excursion to a nearby island.

Mariner III

Historical Summary:

Mariner III was built for Captain James Griffeths of Seattle.  Originally named Sueja III, Capt. Griffeths used the yacht to travel up and down the West Coast. During one her visits to California, actor John Barrymore saw the yacht and approached the owner insistent on purchasing the vessel. Captain Griffeths, poking his finger into the tall actor's chest, said in no uncertain terms, that his yacht was not for sale for any amount.  He would, however, introduce him to the designer, Ted Geary, who then designed the 120-foot Infanta (now Thea Foss ) for Barrymore.

In the early 1950's, Mr. Ayers sold the yacht toa Californian, O. J. Hull.  He replaced her Washington Iron Works diesels with a pair of Detroit Diesel 6-110 S engines. Mr. Hull used the yacht to race up and down San Diego Bay.  After a few years of service, she was sold to a new owner, a New Yorker, who voyaged on the vessel to the Mediterranean.  After a short time, she wound up in Cannes, France.

In keeping with her original 1920's design and the flavor of the era, the Kennedy Engine Company, Inc., restored the Mariner III to her original charm.  Mariner III has had many famous guests, magazine ads shot on her, and articles written about her.

Wartime Use:

Conscripted by the Navy during WWII, Sueja III was ballasted down and set out on patrol, mainly in the Aleutian Islands. After the war effort, the Army returned the yacht to her owners.

There is no rental fee for the vessel. There are marina docking fees that range from $800 to $1,200 depending on the size of the dock and location. Please inquire with the charter company to confirm the exact fee. The price per person is $296 per guest for the meal, alcohol, and up to a 5-hour event. There is a guest minimum of 30 guests for all events. Nautical Holidays can coordinate on different dock locations in New York and New Jersey. Individual docks will have different docking fees.

During the winter months, Mariner III is based at the Palm Beach Yacht Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. From that location Mariner III hosts cruises from Fort Lauderdale, Miami and other points along Florida’s Atlantic Coast.
