New Zealand is the home of the renowned yacht maker Alloy Yachts. In the 1980's the average length of an alloy yacht was 12 to 13 metres, but that changed with the creation of the Chanel which came in at 28 metres. Currently they are custom builder of luxury motor yachts and sailing yachts ranging from 30m to 70m. Alloy Yachts was formed on the banks of Henderson Creek in West Auckland, by a number of local yacht builders after Chanel commissioned in 1985. The next project was for the Americas Cup challenge for New Zealand in 1987 and much of the boat building team have been together ever since. In 1991 Alloy Yachts built their first vessel of over 100 feet in length. A period of expansion followed through the 1990's with innovation at the forefront, Alloy Yachts skipped up the league of super yacht builders. The first use of a carbon fibre mast originally developed for the Americas Cup, was incorporated into a cruising super yacht, the 32 metre Esprit. Imagine, a 33 metre boat used a ground breaking technology enabling sustained quiet periods on board by being able to use any shore based power system. Then the slightly larger, at nearly 35 metres, Corinthian, was the first yacht to be built with a concealed anchor. From there, more recently Alloy Yachts have built what was at the time the largest sloop in the world, the 49 metre Georgia and then followed that with the Tiara at over 54 metres, the latter being awarded the 2004 Showboat International highest technical achievement award. More awards followed in 2005, a Boat International superyacht award was earned by Ad Lib, a 40 metre beauty and in 2006, the following year, Como received a styling award from the same magazine. In 2006, after 21 years of manufacture, Wyoming won the Showboats International best sailing yacht award. Further awards have followed in 2007 and 2008 so the company can justifiably claim to be one of the leading yacht builders in the world, a great achievement for a Company based in one of the least accessible countries in the world. It is not just the boats themselves that they build. They have developed a range of options that can be incorporated into other existing or in production vessels. Apart from their already mentioned concealed anchor systems, they have developed captive and vertical winches, deck hardware such as stanchions, line haulers, mooring cleats, through to the much more sophisticated Seatouch Monitoring and alarm system. They also make and supply boarding passerelles and platforms, and even jacuzzis. Alloy yachts is recognised as one of the leading superyacht builders in the world and particularly specialises in high quality luxury sailing yachts. Yachts built by Alloy have an international reputation for reliable operation and world class quality. The quality, innovation and reliability of Alloy Yachts has been acknowledged in by winning 16 International Yachting Awards.

Yacht Vertigo sailing

When a group of New Zealand boat builders set out to build a 28-meter aluminum yacht in the late 1970s, not even they would have guessed that – just two years later – it would have led to the launch of an entire yacht-building company, Alloy Yachts.

With a strong 28-year history in the boat-building business, Alloy Yachts has become a super yacht icon, one synonymous with luxury, seaworthiness, engineering excellence and craftsmanship. Inspired by a deep passion for boat building , and always looking for new ways to innovate, Alloy Yachts keeps up with the trends by perfectly combining age-old yacht traditions with modern, cutting-edge designs.

Led by managing director Tony Hambrook, Alloy Yachts has a top-notch team of naval architects, interior designers, skilled artisans, project managers, captains, and of course, satisfied customers from across the globe.

The company has gained an international reputation for its reliable operation and world-class quality, and as a result of its efforts, has achieved award-winning standards that yacht aficionados from around the world have come to respect. Most notable of these achievements has been the creation of the Red Dragon and Mondango yachts, both of which were finalists in the worldwide 2008 Boat International superyacht awards.

Alloy Yachts

Alloy Yachts

The creation of the brand «Alloy Yachts» belongs to New-Zealand shipbuilders who joined together in the beginning of 1980 to realize an incredible at that time project of 28 - meter aluminium yacht «Chanel».

The next project - the tender for the America's Cup in New Zealand in 1987 - put the foundation for the production of world-famous aluminium superyachts.

90s were a period of great expansion for the Alloy team. A series of innovations in technology and design have resulted in the company being considered among the industry leaders.

Yacht models produced by «Alloy Yachts» became increasingly famous and won awards of various organizations. «Atlanta» won «ShowBoats International 1996" in the category for best interior divine interior design, made of noble wood.

The company «Alloy Yachts» celebrated its 21 years with the release of 39.7 -meter «Janice of Wyoming», the best sailing yacht in 2005 according to the «ShowBoats International», and in 2007 -an impressive «VvS1» that was recognized as the best displacement motor yacht under 500GT.

In 2008 «Alloy Yachts» introduced a 52 -meter sailing yacht «Red Dragon» with control and alert system SeaTouch. For optimum degree of seaworthiness all settings onboard can be controlled with six touch screens located throughout the yacht and associated with numerous sensors and monitors.

The fifth yacht over 50 meters long, a 51.7 -meter ketch «Mondango», has a unique curved glass rear window - another achievement of the shipyard. The main and additional side windows can be opened and closed by a simple pressing of a button. However, one of the incredible super masterpieces of «Alloy Yachts» became the «Kokomo» project in collaboration with «Dubois Naval Architects», this 58 -meter sailboat was launched in New Zealand in 2010 and is still considered one of the best in the world , «Kokomo III » can accommodate up to 10 guests in 3 double and 2 twin cabins.

Yacht «Kokomo» became the successful evolution of the results of the designers, shipbuilders and the owner of this sailboat . This is the third superyacht «Alloy Yachts», built for the same owner; moreover, she is the biggest. She embodies all the most successful features of the previous two models «Kokomo», having allowed «Dubois Naval Architects» and «Alloy Yachts» to create a sailing yacht with a new level of seaworthiness, comfort and style.

«Alloy Yachts» have gained a great reputation of excellent quality vessels.

The Alloy Yachts Story

The Story of Alloy Yachts

Ambitious Shipbuilder

The Alloy Yachts shipyard was founded in 1985, following an ambitious project to build a 28-metre performance sailing yacht in West Auckland, New Zealand. The yacht, Chanel, had been constructed of lightweight aluminium and featured a luxury interior that had required the builders to establish a new standard of fit and finish. The success of this launch persuaded the local yacht-building team to form Alloy Yachts, Ltd.

One of the original build team, the late Tony Hambrook was named managing director of Alloy Yachts in 1989 and guided the shipyard for the next 27 years. During this time Alloy increased its capacity for constructing larger luxury yachts, with deliveries that included sailing yachts longer than 67m and motor yachts up to 47m in length.
