Nautilus (perini navi) yacht charter.

Chartering the yacht Nautilus, whose design is based entirely on well-being, is the ideal choice to get away from the hectic pace of everyday life.

This 73-metre superyacht offers 12 guests a cocoon of softness and relaxation for a cruise departing from Antibes or the other ports of the French Riviera. A true refuge, the motor yacht Nautilus is equipped to ensure that its guests enjoy a peaceful and happy voyage.

The interior decoration, the fruit of designer Rémi Tessier’s imagination, is resolutely elegant and features pastel colours and pure lines. Here, well-being comes through 7 comfortable cabins designed like cosy nests, where technological equipment makes life easier. The lounges follow this philosophy and the art of living and entertaining can be felt in every room. Moments of laughter and exchange are encouraged for all generations, around the ping pong table or table football or even within the Beach Club where a wellness centre invites travellers to let go.

The outdoor areas invite you to laze on the sun loungers cleverly spread around the pool or to bask in the jacuzzi with a cocktail in hand, admiring the sunset, before enjoying the gastronomic pleasures thanks to the exceptional menus made to measure by the chef of the Nautilus.

The epitome of luxury, the superyacht Nautilus is equipped with an environmentally friendly technological system that avoids anchoring on certain spots, allowing you to explore coral reefs and other sensitive seabeds without causing damage, a good alibi to use the snorkelling equipment and explore the Mediterranean seabed!

The motor yacht Nautilus will seduce you so much that you will be devoured by the desire to prolong the pleasure on board and charter it for much more than a week. The Nautilus symbolises the quintessence of luxury. On this superyacht, time seems to stand still to give way to the happiness of the moment.

Key specifications

  • Length 73m (240ft)

NAUTILUS takes wellness seriously, with a whole deck given to rest and recuperation, an excellent health-conscious chef and greener cruising credentials.

As perhaps the most luxurious on-the-water wellness centre, the NAUTILUS yacht extends the relaxing atmosphere of her Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and massage area throughout her 73 metres.

Interior Design & Engineering

The award-winning NAUTILUS yacht was launched in 2014 to great applause for her improved efficiency and ability to reduce her footprint on the areas she visits . Her dynamic positioning system means it’s possible to avoid dropping anchor in fragile environments, while features like the systems that mitigate her exhaust fumes or allow you to store waste on board for extended periods bolster her eco title. She’s also virtually silent at sea, which helps enhance the zen-like feeling while underway.

The Remi Tessier-designed interior of the NAUTILUS motor yacht is simple, finished in neutral tones and with an open-plan layout to create a spacious, clean environment that helps to foster an uncluttered mind.

Up to 12 guests can be accommodated during a NAUTILUS yacht charter across a master suite, two VIP cabins, two doubles and two twins.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

NAUTILUS has everything you’d expect from a wellness-focused luxury superyacht and more. There’s a classic sauna and steam room, a 3.5-metre resistance pool on her main deck aft and a Jacuzzi on her sun deck aft. She’s got ample deck space for you to enjoy a workout in the fresh air or simply recline on her rotating sun beds with pop-up biminis to boost your Vitamin D levels.

Head up to the sky lounge to compete in games like table tennis or foosball while you take in the panoramic ocean views, or go down to her swim platform if you want to exercise in the water.

You can enjoy a more formal meal around her dining table located forward of the main salon, then head back to the soft sofas for a relaxing digestif. If you prefer a bit more flare with your Japanese fare, you can watch your food being prepared at the sit-up sushi bar.

It’s also possible to enjoy a sumptuous sunset supper at the alfresco dining table on her upper deck aft. Afterwards, flop onto the sofas and turn on the giant screen to create your own outdoor cinema.

Toys & Crew

You’ll be thoroughly outnumbered on your NAUTILUS yacht charter, with a crew of 20 looking after you.

There’s a wide range of water toys to keep you active and thoroughly entertained. From stand-up Jetskis, wakeboards and electric surfboards to towable toys, kayaks, carbon fibre sailing dinghies and fishing and diving gear, there’s something to suit any mood.

If you want to pop ashore, there are multiple tenders that can transport you and both electric bicycles and a beach BBQ set up for you to enjoy.

NAUTILUS Yacht – Breathtaking $90 Million Superyacht

The multi-award-winning NAUTILUS yacht was designed with a variety of luxurious amenities that are arranged around a layout that prioritizes both space and comfort.

The goal of the design was to create a superyacht that would exude Zen and have a smaller carbon footprint.

The high-volume superyacht is exceptionally quiet both when it is moving and when it is anchored because it is powered by hybrid diesel-electric plants.

Additionally, the vessel is equipped with a dynamic positioning system.

Unsurprisingly, NAUTILUS received a number of awards at the Monaco Yacht Show Awards the year she was delivered, and she continues to impress every type of charter guest she welcomes on board.

Lighting is very important in the interior of the superyacht NAUTILUS. The recessed lighting and even illuminated furniture work together to create a quietly sophisticated yet entirely inviting atmosphere.

There are over two meters of headroom in the main salon, for example, and the layout is largely open-plan to make moving through the yacht a memorable experience in and of itself.

Tessier chose a variety of textures for the window frames, including light sycamore, bleached wenge, and even some high gloss ebony.

Additionally, the social and private spaces are as comfortable as they are aesthetically impressive, thanks to careful contouring and palladium accents.

The main salon has a light grey color scheme and multiple seating options surrounding a collection of coffee tables.

Instead of a plethora of decorative fixtures, Tessier has simply added a one-of-a-kind artwork by American artist Edward Ruscha, a finishing touch that completes the area in a suitably outstanding manner.

NAUTILUS Yacht exterior

The elegant hull of the superyacht NAUTILUS was designed by French naval architect Philippe Briand with both hydrodynamics and space in mind.

Her plumb bow ensures efficient performance while also maximizing waterline length and providing plenty of volumes.

Tessier has extended his usual preference for uninterrupted spaces on the sundeck to create an environment that captures the Zen that the owner specifically requested.

A number of custom sun pads that can rotate 360° have been paired with similarly bespoke sun loungers with built-in biminis for instant shade.

Additionally, there’s a large Jacuzzi on the main deck aft for taking in the tropical climate in style, as well as a coffee bar on the aft deck that can easily be converted to a cocktail bar when the evening calls for more drinks.

Perhaps the most eye-catching feature of the exterior is the LEDs installed above the social areas, which, when lit, discreetly communicate to the crew that guests are politely requesting some privacy.

NAUTILUS Yacht accommodation

She can comfortably accommodate 12 guests and 22 crew members for a relaxed yachting experience.

The seven cabins available to guests are spread across two decks and each has large windows to allow for plenty of natural light to complement the electric lighting.

All of the cabins, like the social spaces, are furnished with bright and comfortable furnishings, allowing guests to enjoy time alone without sacrificing the beauty of their surroundings.

The main deck master suite features his and her bathrooms separated by a limestone bath, as well as additional seating on either side of the bed.

An added advantage of underwater capabilities means no more seasickness: In rough seas, NAUTILUS can simply dive below the surface and continue the journey in comfort. The NAUTILUS has a surface speed of 9 knots and an underwater speed of 4 knots. She can stay under the waves for up to four days, or for a total of six hours while cruising.

Above water, guests have access to alfresco facilities including a sundeck, bar, pool, dining, lounging and sunbathing facilities. All of this is retracted before going underwater.

A pressure-resistant electrical tender (named ‘ARONNAX’) is stored under the aft deck and will remain outside while diving. ARONNAX can be used for transporting up to five Scuba divers underwater, to and from their destination.

The interior layout is fully customisable; however, the standard layout offers a 50m²/538ft² lounge and dining area, galley, plus guest accommodation over 5 cabins: 1 Master suite and 4 further guest cabins. The crew accommodation provides for 6.

The price for a NAUTILUS of your own starts at €25 million, and once commissioned, her Owner can expect to receive her within 30 months.

How Lynch Yacht Sank is the Focus After Recovery Ends

(Bloomberg) -- Following the end of a week-long search and rescue mission, Italian and British authorities are shifting their focus to how the Bayesian luxury yacht sank so quickly off the coast of Sicily.

On Monday, a 56-meter (184 feet) sailing yacht owned by the family of UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch sank in a matter of minutes in a violent storm.

The Italian coast guard declared the end of search and rescue operations early afternoon on Friday, having retrieved and identified the bodies of all those missing, but the judicial investigation over what happened could take months.

Prosecutors are now considering charges including causing a shipwreck, multiple homicide and injuries, newswire Adnkronos reported. Termini Imerese chief prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio, who is leading the probe, didn’t respond to requests for comment.

Bloomberg News was unable to contact the Bayesian captain James Cutfield or the crew. The New Zealand embassy in Rome declined to provide the lawyers’ details for Cutfield or to relay a message, citing privacy.

“The Lynch family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends,” a spokesperson for the Lynch family said in a statement. “They would like to sincerely thank the Italian coast guard, emergency services and all those who helped in the rescue.”

The captain and other survivors have been questioned by the local prosecutor’s office, according to Italian media, and the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch has launched its own probe. But neither has speculated on the cause of the tragic disaster, which claimed seven lives including Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter.

Maritime trade union Nautilus International called for restraint to allow investigations to proceed “without external pressure or pre-judgment.”

Any attempt to question the crew’s conduct without the full facts is “not only unfair but also harmful to the process of uncovering the truth and learning any lessons from this tragedy,” said general secretary Mark Dickinson in a statement.

Witnesses and other parties have speculated whether the crew was prepared for the incoming weather, whether all hatches had been closed and whether the ship’s design, with an unusually large mast and retractable keel, could have played a part. The answers to those questions will be key for the Bayesian’s insurers as they carry out their own investigations.

The head of the company that built the Bayesian rejected the notion that the vessel’s design was flawed, describing it as “unsinkable.”

Human error appears to have led to the ship taking on water that flooded the engine room, knocking out power before the ship sank, Italian Sea Group Chief Executive Officer Giovanni Costantino said in an interview with Bloomberg News. ISG bought Perini Navi, the Bayesian’s ship builder, in 2022.

The company that manages the vessel, Camper & Nicholsons, declined to comment but confirmed it did not manage the crew directly.

Costantino said that an analysis of AIS data, a tracking system used by ships, shows the Bayesian started to drift from where it was anchored just before 4 a.m., drifting for about five minutes for about 360 meters to the spot where it eventually sank.

Footage taken from the port of Porticello, a small fishing village east of Palermo, captured the yacht’s final moments afloat and appears to show it suffered a power failure just before it sank.

“The fact the lights went out means the ship died, that it’s gone into blackout,” Costantino said. “To blow out the electrics, the ship has to have taken water in the engine room.”

Costantino said he hadn’t spoken with investigators about the Bayesian.

The captain of the vessel moored next to the Bayesian, Karsten Börner, said that his crew worked hard to keep their ship upright as the storm hit. Despite it being anchored, he needed to run the engine at full power to keep it steady. He couldn’t believe how quickly the Bayesian sank.

Waterspouts are not uncommon in Italy during the late summer, driven by warm Mediterranean waters. Italy experiences more than 100 “tornadic events” a year, said Andrew Pedrini, a meteorologist at forecaster Atmospheric G2.

Offshore marine spouts often go unreported, though.  In coastal areas, a fierce wind can pick up then die down in seconds with little warning, according to a fellow captain of a super yacht, who asked not to be named discussing the events.

Commenting on whether the tragedy could have been foreseen, Salvo Cocina, head of Sicily’s Civil Protection Agency, said only the level of probability could have been predicted. It was impossible to calculate when and where such weather would hit, he said. Warming seas have increased the severity of such events, Cocina added.

The 16 minutes that plunged the Bayesian yacht into a death spiral

Until midnight last Sunday, Matteo Cannia was sitting out on a bench overlooking the sea in Porticello. It was too hot to sleep.

The 78-year-old, a fisherman since the age of 10, saw the first flashes of lightning. "I heard the thunder and the wind and decided to go home," he told me.

"As the storm grew, everyone woke. Water was coming into my friend’s house."

At about 04:15 local time, Fabio Cefalù – a fisherman who had been due to go out that wild Monday morning but, like others, decided against it – suddenly saw a flare go up.

He changed his mind and went out to sea to find out what was going on – and discovered only cushions and floating planks of wood.

A luxury super yacht called the Bayesian, moored only a few hundred metres away, had already sunk.

It all happened in a 16-minute window of disaster , chaos and torment, which catapulted a sleepy Sicilian fishing port to the centre of world news.

All but seven of the 22 passengers of the Bayesian had scrambled into a life raft as the yacht began to capsize. The others never made it out.

Charlotte Golunski, a British woman, was thrown into the water with her one-year-old daughter, Sophie. She told of clutching her baby in the air with all her strength to keep her from drowning. "It was all black around me," she said, "and the only thing I could hear were the screams of others."

She, her baby, and her husband James were among those rescued by a nearby sailing boat captain. Trapped inside the sinking Bayesian was her colleague Mike Lynch – one of the UK’s top tech entrepreneurs, dubbed “Britain’s Bill Gates”.

Luxury turned to terror

Mr Lynch had brought together family, friends and colleagues for an idyllic holiday on his luxury boat: a sumptuous 56-metre (184ft) sailing yacht that won design awards and had the world’s tallest aluminium mast.

In June, he was acquitted after a lengthy trial in the US on charges that he had fraudulently inflated the value of his company, Autonomy, before selling it to Hewlett Packard in 2011. The trip was planned as a celebration of freedom to mark his rehabilitation in public opinion.

Three days after the yacht went down, his body was retrieved by divers from the wreckage.

A day later, the body of his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, who was due to begin studying at the University of Oxford next month, was recovered.

Among the others who died were the president of the investment bank Morgan Stanley, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy; Mr Lynch’s lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda; and the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas. Mr Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, survived.

The family has released a statement talking of their “unspeakable grief”, adding they are “devastated and in shock”.

How the super yacht sank so quickly while other smaller vessels nearby survived the storm undamaged has dumbfounded experts.

In a press conference this weekend – the first public statement by officials since the disaster – local prosecutors said they had begun an investigation into potential crimes of manslaughter and negligent shipwreck.

The region’s state prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio told reporters that while the probe was at a very early stage and nobody specific was being investigated, there were “many possibilities for culpability. It could be just the captain. It could be the whole crew… we are absolutely not ruling anything out”.

A small team of British marine investigators has also been sent to Sicily to work with their Italian counterparts.

Prosecutors said that they now believed a downburst was the weather phenomenon that hit the ship: a localised, powerful wind that descends from a thunderstorm and spreads unpredictably.

That contradicted previous reports that had identified the cause as a waterspout , or mini tornado at sea.

Either way, it’s clear extreme weather played a major role.

The crucial 16-minute window

Much of the focus for the investigation team is of course on the conduct of the captain, 51-year-old James Cutfield from New Zealand. He survived, along with eight of his crew, and is being questioned.

“We didn’t see it coming,” he told Italian media, alluding to the storm, in his only public comment so far.

The problem is: plenty of others did. Violent winds and rain were forecast, following days of searing heat. The head of the company that built the Bayesian, Giovanni Costantino, told me he was convinced there had been a litany of errors on board.

“At the back of the boat, a hatch must have been left open,” he said, “but also perhaps a side entrance for water to have poured inside.

"Before the storm, the captain should have closed every opening, lifted anchor, turned on the engine, pointed into the wind and lowered the keel."

A keel is a large, fin-like part of the boat that protrudes from its base.

"That would have stabilised the vessel, they would have been able to traverse the storm and continue their cruise in comfort," he said.

Rescuers instead found the wreckage of the Bayesian 50 metres underwater with its almost 10-metre-long keel raised .

Had it been deployed, it could have helped counter the wind buffeting the Bayesian’s 75-metre high aluminium mast and kept the ship stable. But without it, experts told the newspaper La Repubblica that gusts of 100 kilometres an hour (62mph) would have been enough to capsize the ship – and Monday’s storm far exceeded that.

“The Bayesian was a model for many other vessels because of its stability and exceptionally high performance,” Mr Costantino said. “There was absolutely no problem with it. If water hadn’t surged in, it was unsinkable.”

He told me there were 16 minutes between the power going out on the ship at 03:56 – showing that water was flooding areas with electrical circuits – and the GPS signal being lost, indicating the moment it sank.

That period, along with any measures taken to mitigate the extreme weather, will be pored over by investigators, particularly once they locate the vessel’s black box recorder.

Rino Casilli, one of Sicily’s top ship surveyors, similarly believes that errors may have made the yacht vulnerable to the extreme weather.

“There should have been two members of the crew taking turns to be on watch overnight, given the storm warning,” he told me as he took me out on his boat – around a third of the size of the Bayesian. “And it should have been moored in the harbour, not out at sea.”

It has not yet been established how many people, if any, were on watch that night.

From his sailing boat, we gained rare access to the spot where the Bayesian went down.

Around us, an Italian police vessel circulated, warning us back. Suddenly, there was a flurry of activity among divers, as other rescue vessels arrived.

We didn’t know at the time – but they had just located more bodies.

It was an intensely challenging operation for the teams to recover those trapped in the wreckage. Given its depth, at 50 metres underwater, each diver was allowed 10 minutes down before resurfacing for their safety – 120 dives in total. They were assisted by remote control vehicles that could operate on the seabed for far longer.

In this weekend’s press conference, rescuers said the passengers trapped inside during the sinking took refuge in cabins on the ship’s left side, where the last air bubbles formed.

Five of the bodies were found in the first cabin on the left, they said, while the last body – confirmed as Hannah Lynch – was in the third cabin on the left side.

Access for the emergency teams was extremely difficult since the yacht remained largely intact with its furniture obstructing entry.

The coastguard compared it to an “18-storey building full of water”. When Ms Lynch’s body was brought ashore emergency workers on the port applauded their colleagues.

All seven of the dead have been transported to a mortuary for post-mortems.

Rescuers will now need to decide whether – and how – to salvage the wreckage, which would undoubtedly offer vital clues as to what happened. But bringing the Bayesian to the surface could take six to eight weeks and cost 15 million euros (£12.7m) by some estimates.

The hunt for clarity

While the divers’ painstaking work to recover the dead has ended, the investigators’ painful hunt for answers has only begun.

They and the survivors are hunkered down in a hotel close to Porticello, which is strictly off-limits to journalists. Security guards promptly asked us to leave.

Solving the enigma of what happened to the Bayesian will be crucial not only to help loved ones of the victims reach some sort of closure, but also for the maritime industry to draw conclusions.

The brother of James Cutfield, the captain, said he was a “well-respected” sailor who had worked on boats his whole life. Did the experienced sailor somehow make a series of catastrophic errors? The trade union Nautilus, which represents seafarers and captains, called for restraint in passing judgement on the Bayesian’s crew.

"Any attempt to question their conduct without the full facts is not only unfair but also harmful to the process of uncovering the truth and learning any lessons from this tragedy," it said.

The world’s media has begun to leave Porticello, which is gradually returning to the tranquillity of its pre-Bayesian era. Stray cats roam among the old fishing boats, and children play as their families eat out at the few seaside restaurants.

But what has happened over the past week has stunned and scarred many here.

“Last Sunday night, we saw the end of the world in Porticello,” said resident Maria Vizzo. “We’ve never seen something like this. Everyone here is shocked – and everyone is crying.”

For nearly a week after a violent storm sent a luxury yacht to the bottom of the sea off the coast of Sicily, Italian scuba divers plunged deep underwater, moving through ropes and fallen objects inside the yacht in a desperate search for the six people missing.

On Friday, the recovery of the body of Hannah Lynch, 18, put an end to the wrenching search and to the slim hopes that any of the missing people might have survived.

Ms. Lynch, the daughter of the British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, who also died in the yacht’s sinking, was the last person to be formally unaccounted for since Monday after tragedy struck a group that had been celebrating her father’s acquittal in a high-profile fraud case.

There were 10 crew members and 12 passengers on board the 180-foot vessel, the Bayesian, when it was hit by a storm and went down about 4.30 a.m. on Monday, the boat’s management company said on Friday.

Fifteen survived.

The body of the ship’s cook, Recaldo Thomas, was found on Monday, a few hours after a downpour hit the northwestern coast of Sicily, near the port of Porticello, where the yacht had been anchored.

But it took several days to recover the bodies of the six passengers who were apparently trapped inside the yacht: Mr. Lynch and Ms. Lynch; Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International; his wife, Judy Bloomer; Christopher J. Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance; and his wife, Neda Morvillo.

On Friday, a round of applause could be heard from the firefighter’s tent set up on the dock in Porticello after the last body was pulled out in what the corps described as a “complex” search operation at a depth of about 165 feet. The firefighters said they had made 123 immersions into the sea to try to retrieve the bodies.

The body bag was then loaded onto an ambulance. A local man had left a small wooden cross on the rocks in front of the dock where the bodies were brought ashore.

Mr. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was among those who managed to reach the safety of a raft. They were rescued by a sailing schooner that had been bobbing about 150 yards from the yacht.

In a statement, the family thanked the search teams and said that it was enduring a “time of unspeakable grief.”

“The Lynch family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends,” the statement added.

As prosecutors from the nearby city of Termini Imerese began conducting interviews with the survivors and possible witnesses, the crew and passengers of the Bayesian have been confined to a local hotel, where the news media have been denied access.

Salvatore Cocina, the head of Sicily’s civil protection agency, said on Thursday that the survivors had turned down the psychological assistance his department had offered to them.

In Porticello, the sprawling presence of rescue services made a haunting backdrop for an otherwise tranquil port town. People sunbathed and ate ricotta-filled pastries, and stores selling sandals and dried fruit opened as normal, while coast guard and firefighting vessels came and went from the shore, taking scuba divers out to the shipwreck.

Other reminders of the tragedy could be seen along the coast, among palm trees and ice cream shops, with groups of onlookers staring out at the sea, now tranquil and flat.

Local and national news organizations have complained that prosecutors have not issued a statement or held a news conference. Prosecutors may shed more light on the yacht’s sinking when they hold a news conference on Saturday.

The marine accident investigation branch of the British transportation ministry was also looking into the shipwreck of the vessel, which was registered in Britain.

One of the major questions is what caused the boat to sink: Was it the fault of the boat maker, of the crew or of a powerful act of nature — or some combination of the three? None of those who were onboard the Bayesian have spoken publicly.

The luxury yacht, built by the Italian manufacturer Perini Navi and launched in 2008, had the second-tallest aluminum mast in the world, according to its makers.

Giovanni Costantino, the chief executive of the Italian Sea Group, which in 2022 bought Perini Navi, has been assertive in defending the design and construction of the yacht, saying that the Bayesian would be “unsinkable” if the proper procedures were followed.

But yacht design experts have cautioned that the lesson of the Titanic, the ocean liner that sank on its 1912 maiden voyage, showed that no vessel, no matter how robust, was worthy of that label.

Nautilus International, a maritime-focused labor union, criticized any implication that the crew had been at fault, especially at this stage. In a statement , the union’s general secretary, Mark Dickinson, said, “Experience tells us that maritime tragedies are always the result of multiple, interconnected factors,” and he urged people to refrain from drawing any conclusions until a thorough investigation had been carried out.

The investigation into the causes will take months, prosecutors said.

Divers of the Vigili del Fuoco, the Italian Corps. of Firefighters enter Porticello harbor near Palermo, with the body of Hannah Lynch, the last missing person

UPDATES with number of dives, time of sinking, maritime trade union

Divers searching a sunken superyacht off Sicily recovered the body of the teenage daughter of UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch Friday, the seventh and final victim of a tragedy in which the businessman also perished.

Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah had been among six passengers reported missing after the "Bayesian" went down off the north coast of the Italian island in a storm early on Monday morning.

After Hannah's body was brought ashore on Friday, her family issued a statement describing their "unspeakable grief".

"The Lynch family is devastated, in shock and is being comforted and supported by family and friends," it said.

Search teams had recovered the bodies of four of Lynch's friends on Wednesday, and that of the entrepreneur himself on Thursday.

The body of a man believed to be the yacht's chef had been found a few hours after the sailing ship sank.

Lynch had invited friends onto the sailing boat Bayesian to celebrate his recent acquittal in a massive US fraud case

Lynch, 59, had invited friends and family onto the sailing boat to celebrate his recent acquittal in a massive US fraud case.

But the 56-metre (185-foot) British-flagged yacht was struck by a waterspout -- akin to a mini-tornado -- before dawn on Monday as it was anchored off Porticello, near Palermo.

It sank at around 04:30 am local time, according to management company Camper and Nicolsons, and now lies on the sea bed some 50 metres down.

Hannah had just finished her end-of-school exams and had a place to study English literature at Oxford University.

Friends described her as warm, loving and "charming and ferociously intelligent", according to one of the tributes issued by the family.

Lynch, once dubbed the British "Bill Gates", was "the most brilliant mind and (most) caring person I have ever known", said another.

The businessman had been acquitted on all charges in a San Francisco court in June after he was accused of an $11 billion fraud linked to the sale of his software firm Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard.

US lawyer Chris Morvillo, a partner at top law firm Clifford Chance who worked on the trial, also died in the sinking, along with his wife Neda.

Morvillo's firm Clifford Chance paid tribute to the couple, saying all were "heartbroken at the tragic passing... and still coming to terms with this terrible loss".

Italy's fire service said 27 divers had gone down to the submerged yacht each day, performing 123 dives overall in a search that also saw helicopters scour the area.

Italian authorities launched what they called a 'delicate' search operation involving specialist divers, boats from several emergency services and helicopters

The bodies of Jonathan Bloomer, the chair of Morgan Stanley International, and his wife Judy, were also found.

The Bloomer family said they were suffering "unimaginable grief" for a couple who had been together for five decades.

"Our only comfort is that they are still together now," the family said.

Many questions remain about why the yacht sank, and so quickly, when other boats nearby were unaffected.

Italian prosecutors have opened a probe and will hold a press conference on Saturday.

On Thursday the head of the company which built the boat said the tragedy could have been avoided.

"Everything that was done reveals a very long summation of errors," said Giovanni Costantino, head of the Italian Sea Group, which includes the Perini Navi company that built Bayesian in 2008.

But Nautilus International, a maritime trade union, called for a "thorough, unbiased investigation".

General secretary Mark Dickinson warned questioning the crew's conduct "without the full facts" would be "not only unfair but also harmful to the process of uncovering the truth".

The Bayesian, owned by Lynch's family, boasted a 75-metre mast, the tallest aluminium sailing mast in the world, according to the Charter World website.

Raising the wreck would likely cost some 15 million euros and take "six to eight weeks", according to the salvage engineer who led the operation to recover the Costa Concordia cruise ship, which sank off Italy in 2012.

To recover the yacht, the mast could be removed on the seabed but the boat would be lifted up whole using a giant crane and a team of 40 specialist divers, South African engineer Nick Sloane told the Repubblica daily.
