If you want to master powerboats or apply for an ICC, this is the course for you. This is one of the most popular powerboat courses. It is two days long, and it covers both practical and theory elements in depth.
After you have got your certificate, you will have the confidence to handle a powerboat, and you will have knowledge of seamanship. Because it is longer than the Powerboat Level 1 Course , it goes into far greater detail on all the topics.
When you take the PB2 course with Duck-2-Water, qualified RYA instructors will provide training on a modern and fully-equipped powerboat. Your instructor will cover the following topics with you during your 2 days with him or her:
RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course takes place over two days. Depending on how your instructor structures the course, you will normally spend the first day covering the theory element. During this, you will learn about different crafts and the advantages and disadvantages, personal buoyancy, communication, safety checks, engines, emergencies and more.
The practical assessment usually takes place on the second day, and you will need to show that you can handle the boat properly.
You do not need any previous powerboat experience to sign up for the course, and you don’t need to take the Powerboat Level 1 Course first. However, all applicants must be over the age of 12.
You can book your spot on the RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course with Duck-2-Water today on the website. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Why learn with duck-2-water.

You will meet your instructor in the morning for briefing on the day's activities, then go outside to be shown the RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat - that means it has a rigid hull with inflatable tubes around the outside). You will learn how to check over the boat and prepare it for launch - if you have already driven a powerboat this will be quite straightforward, but if you are a complete beginner you may need a little more time. Then you will launch the boat and set out to practice some basic manoeuvres in the harbour. There will be a stop for lunch, when you will cover some of the theory required - such as navigation - before more practical exercises on the water, and back to the club in the afternoon. On the second day of the course you will learn high speed driving techniques, and cover some more theory, before being awarded your certificate.
No prior experience is needed, but you should be able to swim.

The Powerboat Instructor course aims to provide candidates with the necessary skills and knowledge required to instruct the RYA National Powerboat Scheme in a safe and effective way. The course duration is 4 days, including the pre-assessment, and comprises both practical and theoretical training scenarios, where candidates are expected to deliver short training sessions. These sessions aim to develop the candidates personal skills and teaching ability in the safety of the training environment. The course focuses on teaching you how to instruct. You will learn effective methods of instructing and coaching, how to debrief and how to structure the courses. We revise the skills you will need to teach but you will need to be proficient on a powerboat to do this course.
All potential Powerboat Instructors are required to complete a 1 day pre-assessment course to assess your personal boat handling skills. This assessment will take place on the first day. The course fee includes the price of the pre-assessment.
To do this course, you will need to have completed the Pre-Assessment. You will also need the following certificates: valid First Aid Certificate, RYA Powerboat Level 2, RYA VHF Short Range Certificate. You will need to have 5 years' powerboating experience (or one season full time). The minimum age for this course is 16 years old. Ideally you will have familiarity with a range of craft, giving you a wide range of knowledge of powerboats. Your theory knowledge should be at RYA Day Skipper Theory level and we would recommend holding the certificate.
