DUBAI, U.A.E. (WKRC) - Two Ohio brothers were sentenced to serve time in a Dubai jail following their arrest after a yacht party.

According to Detained in Dubai , an organization that provides assistance to those dealing with legal issues in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ohio brothers Joseph and Joshua Lopez were sentenced to a month in jail time for drinking alcohol on a yacht.

The outlet said the brothers are "facing time in some of the world's most notorious prisons."

According to the organization, Joseph Lopez is a 24-year-old Air Force veteran and social media influencer, who currently holds the title of "Mr. Louisiana." Joseph Lopez intended to visit Dubai for two weeks before preparing to train for the Mister USA competition, per the outlet.

The New York Post reported that the influencer had hoped to shoot new content for social media in the Middle East's "City of Gold." The 24-year-old has amassed around 300K followers on Instagram and TikTok.

The brothers visited Bla Bla Dubai, a nightclub located near the Dubai Marina, on June 2. At some point during the night, the Lopez brothers were invited to a hotel "after party" by an Uber driver, per the organization, which reported that the brothers were given "platters of food, sparklers and drinks that were not requested" in a VIP section.

Twenty minutes later, the lights of the establishment came on and the brothers were handed a bill. Despite feeling taken advantage of, Joseph Lopez told the organization that he paid the bill in full.

Detained in Dubai reported that the brothers were later approached by a man at the party, who invited them back to his Yacht. Despite Joseph Lopez telling the man that he was "done spending for the night," the man insisted they join him, telling the brothers they would be his "American guests."

Upon arriving on the yacht, staff gave the brothers a drink and attempted to charge them $2,722. According to the outlet, the brothers refused before they began to feel strange, with the rest of the night becoming a blur. Joseph Lopez told the outlet that he and his brother were possibly "drugged," per the organization.

“They were drugged by locals after being asked to a yacht party by a local resident,” Detained in Dubai CEO Radha Stirling wrote.

Later in the night, the brothers were confronted by men in black ski masks, who allegedly attempted to put them in a vehicle, per the organization. Feeling they were being abducted, they resisted, the organization reported.

The Lopez brothers were arrested and held at a police station from June 3 to June 12, per the organization, which said they were given bail and a travel ban.

According to the organization, the prosecutor considered charging the brothers with alcohol consumption, resisting resisting arrested and property damage to a patrol vehicle.

Detained in Dubai reported that the Lopez brothers appeared in court last week, facing a charge of drinking alcohol. They were sentenced to one month in prison, per the organization, which added that the brothers will still face a charge related to "damaging government property and assaulting an officer."

The organization said it is pushing for a diplomatic intervention from the United States, with the Lopez brothers asking for an intervention from their local representatives in Ohio: Ohio Representative Mike Carey, Senator Sherrod Brown and Senator J.D. Vance.

“The legal process in Dubai can be drawn out for months and often the punishment is the process,” Detained in Dubai wrote. "Without diplomatic intervention, these boys face potentially years in jails notorious for human rights abuse and torture."

Their next court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow, per the organization.

Two Ohio brothers, one an Air Force veteran, were sentenced to spend four months in a Dubai prison after an incident involving drinking on a yacht in June, a crime in the United Arab Emirates.

Radha Stirling, CEO of human rights organization Detained in Dubai and an advocate for Joseph and Joshua Lopez, alleges the brothers were drugged and robbed on the same night as the drinking that landed them in jail, and they are calling on U.S. lawmakers, including Republican Ohio Sen. JD Vance , for help. The drugging allegations have yet to be officially confirmed.

“Sen. Vance’s office has been in constant communication with the State Department, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the United States and the constituents’ family,” Vance spokesperson Parker Magid told Fox News Digital. “Sen. Vance is monitoring the as-yet-unresolved legal proceedings carefully.”

Stirling said the Lopez brothers are appealing their sentence, alleging they were “targeted by scammers while on vacation in Dubai.”

“While local criminals target tourists with what appears to be the support of law enforcement, Dubai is far from the ‘safe tourist destination’ it’s marketed as,” Stirling said.

The State Department told Fox News Digital in a statement it is aware of the Lopez brothers’ recent arrests.

“We take our role in assisting U.S. citizens abroad seriously and are monitoring the situation,” a spokesperson said. “Due to privacy and other considerations, we have no further comment at this time. U.S. citizens are subject to the laws of the foreign countries they visit or reside in, even when those laws differ from U.S. law.”

Neither the UAE Embassy nor the UAE tourist police responded to inquiries from Fox News Digital.

The State Department has a Level 2 travel advisory listed for the UAE due to threats of terrorism. The State Department’s website for the UAE notes that alcohol is “very limited” in certain private areas, and “[p]ublic drunkenness and driving under the influence, regardless of one’s blood alcohol content level, are considered very serious offenses.”

“Persons arrested on alcohol-related offenses are regularly detained for many days as they await a court hearing. Penalties may include hefty jail sentences, substantial fines and, for Muslims (even those holding U.S. citizenship), lashings,” the website states.

The State Department also notes the country’s “strict” laws on drugs, public decency, photography, social media usage and LGBTQ-related activities or preferences.

Stirling said if the brothers’ appeal is unsuccessful, Joseph, a veteran and 24-year-old father, and Joshua “face months in Dubai jails notorious for human rights abuses.”

“Visitors are flocking into Dubai and facing the most ridiculous charges for alleged crimes they haven’t even committed. Last year, we saw Tierra Allen targeted by a rental car company, Elizabeth de las Santos targeted by an immigration officer and Peter Clark detained for residual hashish found in his blood that he’d legally smoked in Las Vegas weeks before flying,” Stirling said.

She is pressing the United States to “increase travel warnings” for Americans going to Dubai.

“Not only will they be robbed and extorted, but they’ll usually end up in prison too,” she said.

The strict enforcement of alcohol laws in the UAE led to their arrest during a touristic visit in June, as reported by the organization Detained in Dubai.

Joseph and Joshua Lopez , who were in the UAE to create content, found themselves in legal trouble after a night out on June 2. According to Detained in Dubai, the brothers claimed they were drugged at a yacht party they were invited to by a local resident. Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, stated that the brothers were targeted by scammers after attending two separate afterparties where they were forced to pay hefty bills.

Joseph Lopez, currently Mister Louisiana in the Mister USA competition , traveled to the UAE with his brother on May 25, intending to showcase the luxury of Dubai. Their troubles began after a night out at nightclub Bla Bla, where an Uber driver offered to take them to an afterparty. They were served food and drinks they didn't order and later faced a massive bill.

"They were clearly targeted by scammers," Stirling said. After deciding to end the night, the brothers were approached by a man who invited them to a yacht party, assuring them they were "American guests" and wouldn't have to spend more money. However, onboard the yacht, they were given drinks and later charged $2,722. After being offered another drink by a woman, the brothers claimed they lost consciousness.

Joseph Lopez later told Fox 19 Now, "This girl brought me a drink, and after she brought me this drink, I don't remember anything." The brothers' next memory was waking up in a police car. Stirling explained that they believed they were being abducted but were actually being taken to the Al Barsha police station, where they were held from June 3 to June 12.

The brothers were charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, damaging a patrol vehicle, and alcohol consumption. Despite their claims of being drugged, their request for a blood test was ignored by the police. They were eventually released on bond but were given a travel ban, preventing them from returning to the U.S.

As the brothers prepare to fight the charges of assaulting an officer and damaging property in court on August 20, their lawyers anticipate a potentially lengthy sentence describing the jails as "among the world's most notorious." Stirling criticized the UAE's treatment of tourists, arguing that Dubai is not as safe and crime-free as it claims to be. She called for diplomatic intervention from Ohio politicians to help bring the brothers home.

Ohio brothers sentenced to jail time in ‘targeted attack’ in Dubai

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Two Ohio brothers were sentenced in Dubai last week after a night out went horribly wrong.

Former U.S. Airman Joseph Lopez and his brother, Joshua, were sentenced to one month in prison for drinking alcohol on a yacht back in June.

The two men were in Dubai to travel, see the sites and create social media content for Joseph’s influencer career. However, things quickly went downhill after they accepted an invitation to a yacht party from a new “friend.”

FOX19 NOW’s Megan O’Rourke spoke with Joseph back in July to hear his side of the story. According to the veteran, it all started when he was hit with an expensive bill onboard the yacht - one he did not take part in and refused to pay.

Upset and confused on how that could have happened, the issue seemed to have been resolved, he said.

“And then this girl brought me a drink and after she brought me this drink, I don’t remember anything,” Joseph told O’Rourke. “Basically, she drugged us.”

The men did not remember the rest of the night and woke up in the back of a vehicle. They thought they had been kidnapped, not realizing that they were under arrest.

Joseph says while in custody, police did not conduct a breathalyzer test for 24 hours or a drug test for four days.

In addition to their alcohol sentence, the brothers are also facing damaging government property and assaulting an officer charges.

If they are found guilty of the other two charges, they both could spend several years in prison overseas.

According to FOX19 NOW’s previous story, the two Ohioans were released from jail on bond after a few days there, however, they were forced to rent an Airbnb due to a travel ban against them.

The CEO of Detained in Dubai, Radha Stirling, says this was a “targeted attack” and is telling of the country’s character.

Stirling’s organization has helped tens of thousands of people who are facing/faced legal issues in the United Arab Emirates, including the Lopez brothers.

Currently, Detained in Dubai is calling for U.S. diplomatic intervention, specifically from U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio), U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and JD Vance (R-Ohio).

“Without diplomatic intervention, these boys face potentially years in jails notorious for human rights abuse and torture,” Stirling wrote. “Joseph Lopez is an Air Force veteran who helps people in difficult situations through his mental health advocacy. He and his brother deserve every effort from the US government to bring him home.”

As of Monday afternoon, none of the three politicians have released information or input on the Lopez brothers.

Joseph and Joshua Lopez will each serve a month in prison for the drinking alcohol charge they received while on a “touristic visit to the Emirates” in June, according to Detained in Dubai, an organization dedicated to helping people facing legal issues in the UAE.

The two brothers were enjoying a night out on June 2 when they were brought to two separate “afterparties” and forced to pay massive bills before a woman served them a drink that they claimed was drugged.

“They were drugged by locals after being asked to a yacht party by a local resident,” Detained in Dubai CEO Radha Stirling wrote on its website.

Joseph Lopez, who is currently “Mister Louisiana” in the Mister USA competition, had traveled to the UAE with his brother on May 25 hoping to generate luxurious content in the City of Gold.

During their trip, the brothers spent a night out at nightclub Bla Bla before they were approached by an Uber driver who offered to take them to an “afterparty” at a nearby hotel.

They were handed platters of food and drinks they didn’t request, and after 20 minutes, the party was over — and the brothers were handed a massive bill to pay.

“It is clear they were targeted by scammers who were wanting to rob them,” Stirling wrote.

The two brothers decided to call it a night when they were reportedly approached by a man who invited them to a yacht party.

Air Force veteran Joseph Lopez — who left the military less than a year ago — explained that he was “done spending for the night,” but the man insisted they were “American guests” and not to worry about spending money.

Onboard the boat, the brothers were given more drinks from the staff, who later charged them $2,722, before one woman offered them another refreshment.

“This girl brought me a drink, and after she brought me this drink, I don’t remember anything,” Joseph Lopez previously told Fox 19 Now.

“They were given one drink onboard the yacht, and the next thing they remember is being taken away by plain-clothed police officers in an unmarked vehicle,” Stirling explained.

Both Lopez and Stirling claim the brothers thought they were being abducted on foreign soil but were instead brought to the Al Barsha police station, where they remained from June 3 to June 12.

“The police did not test their blood for presence of any drugs or sedatives despite the boys’ request for them to do so,” Stirling wrote.

Police charged the brothers with assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, damaging a patrol vehicle and alcohol consumption.

They had bonded out but were given a travel ban preventing them from returning to the US.

The brothers will fight the damaging government property and assaulting an officer charges in court on Aug. 20, according to Stirling’s Detained in Dubai post.

Lawyers for the brothers expect a lengthy sentence for those charges, with the organization calling the jails “some of the world’s most notorious prisons.”

Stirling blasted the UAE for its treatment of tourists.

“The government portrays that Dubai is a safe and crime-free destination for tourists, but the fact is, we see tourists targeted all the time. Whether it’s financial predators looking to scam visitors like Joseph and Joshua or attacks on women like Selina Waterman Smith, who was abducted and gang-raped,” she wrote.

“The government doesn’t seem to acknowledge crimes in the statistics they provide to the media or tourists. It’s a myth that Dubai is crime-free. They just don’t acknowledge it as it’s bad for business.”

Stirling has asked Ohio politicians — including Republican Rep. Mike Carey and Sens. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, and JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate — for diplomatic intervention to get the brothers home.

“Without diplomatic intervention, these boys face potentially years in jails notorious for human rights abuse and torture,” she wrote.

“Joseph Lopez is an Air Force veteran who helps people in difficult situations through his mental health advocacy. He and his brother deserve every effort from the US government to bring him home.”

The brothers had been staying in an Airbnb as they awaited their fate.

Families will particularly love Notorious thanks to her child-friendly setup. She offers guest accommodation for up to 6 guests with a layout comprising a master suite, one VIP cabin and one twin cabin. There are 6 beds in total, including 2 doubles, 2 singles and 2 pullmans. She is also capable of carrying up to 3 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Commissionato inizialmente dal principe Jefri Bolkiah del Brunei e oggi di proprietà dello sceicco Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , il Dubai è un altro colosso dei mari. Con i suoi 162 metri, si distingue per i dettagli architettonici, come la spettacolare scala centrale e la piscina con piastrelle decorative che sembrano opere d’arte. Gli interni, arricchiti da materiali pregiati, offrono il massimo della sontuosità, rendendo questo yacht una delle imbarcazioni più ammirate nelle acque di tutto il mondo.
