The winner of the highly prestigious and adrenalin fueled TransPac (CA-HI) Race, GAIA is now available to charter for groups of up to eight in four cabins. For those who want to experience the excitement of sailing of one of the fastest Gunboats ever built (speeds of over 20kts are not unusual), GAIA is the yacht for you. Reconfigured for charter comfort and with a highly professional crew ready to provide estimable care and gourmet meals.

Represented by DMA Yachting, the astonishing charter yacht GAIA is a 66 ft sailing catamaran. GAIA spends the winter season in British Virgin Islands. She was constructed by the famous yacht builder Gunboat in 2015. A well-done refit was completed in 2021. The well-planned yacht layout features 3 large cabins and comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests.

GAIA is offered primarily as a sailing catamaran. The the heart of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. The aft deck is generous, with a prominent dining and seating area and that's where the guests spend most of their time. The modern cabins offer unbeatable views in the morning and are located just below deck. The cabins offer designer mattrace beds and feature ensuite bathrooms. Multiple portholes add to the feeling of connection with the discovered environment.

The sailboat features 2 18kw electric drives 2 Generators engines and a generator.

Reconfigured for charter comfort and with a highly professional crew ready to provide estimable care and gourmet meals.

Advertised by DMA Yachting, the breathtaking charter yacht GAIA is a 66 ft sailing catamaran. The most valuable elements of GAIA are her well-chosen interiors and culinary experience. GAIA spends the winter season in US Virgin Islands. She was completed by recognized shipbuilder Gunboat in 2015. A well-done refit was finalized in 2021. The well-planned yacht layout features 3 large cabins and easily accommodates up to 6 guests.

GAIA is classified primarily as a sailing catamaran. The yacht layout radiates from the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). Gunboat 57 Vai Vai is not your average charter cat.

One of the many perks of my job as a yachting writer is that I get to sail aboard a wide variety of boats. I especially love ripping off speed runs aboard some the world’s largest (and fastest) offshore race boats . Now, the truth is, the only reason I’m allowed aboard is because I’m just a humble journalist. But the blistering speeds those boats are capable of is addictive.

And as someone who’s been lucky enough to sail more than my fair share of charter catamarans in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, French Polynesia and other bucket list destinations, I can say every charter cat I’ve ever been on has been a fantastic platform for living large in the tropics. They’re not particularly exciting to sail.

After spending a little time with the VaiVai’s owner Jeff Hager earlier this summer, all I can say is Vai Vai ’s speed potential makes it possible to cover way, way more ground than a more conventional charter boat. And since everyone (even the helmsman and sail trimmer can hang out in main bridgedeck area, and the catamaran never heels more than a few degrees) more speed doesn’t mean less comfort.

In fact, the indoor/outdoor living aboard Vai Vai is next level. The wrap-around windows provide protection from the high winds and spray such a fast boat produces. The 360-degree view is amazing while the massive roof provides essential sun protection. And the sheer size of the bridgedeck is soooo much bigger than what you’d find on a 57-foot monohull. And the nice thing about having the galley and living cabins in the hulls is that each cabin is particularly private.

But, let’s fact it. This boat will not appeal to anyone who rates a charter boat based on how over-the-top-“luxurious” the accommodations are. This is a high-performance sailor’s catamaran for people who don’t want to give up the sheer thrill of sailing on a charter.

Se alquila | Así es el Catamarán Gunboat 57, un charter diferente con un plus de velocidad sobre el mar

Una de las muchas ventajas de mi trabajo como redactor especializado en náutica es que tengo la oportunidad de navegar a bordo de una gran variedad de barcos. Me encanta especialmente hacer regatas de velocidad a bordo de algunos de los  barcos de regatas oceánicas  más grandes (y rápidos) del mundo. Ahora bien, la verdad es que la única razón por la que se me permite subir a bordo es porque sólo soy un humilde periodista. Pero las velocidades de vértigo de las que son capaces esos barcos son adictivas.

Y como alguien que ha tenido la suerte de navegar en una buena ración de catamaranes de alquiler en el Caribe, el Mediterráneo, la Polinesia Francesa y otros destinos de la lista de deseos, puedo decir que todos los catamaranes de alquiler en los que he estado han sido una plataforma fantástica para vivir a lo grande en los trópicos. Pero no son especialmente emocionantes de navegar.

También estoy agradecido de poder decir que he navegado en algunos catamaranes de vela de alto rendimiento como el  Gunboat 57  Vai Vai . Una de las muchas cosas geniales del  Vai Vai  es que es capaz de alcanzar velocidades de vértigo y proporcionar la cantidad justa de espacio habitable y comodidades de crucero. Pero nunca supe que fuera posible alquilar algo tan rápido y divertido de navegar como un Gunboat 57 –en Newport, Rhode Island, en verano y en el Caribe en invierno– hasta ahora.

Después de pasar un poco de tiempo con el propietario del VaiVai, Jeff Hager, a principios de este verano, todo lo que puedo decir es que el potencial de velocidad  del Vai Vai hace posible cubrir mucho, mucho más que un barco de alquiler más convencional. Pero, seamos realistas. Este barco no atraerá a nadie que valore un barco de alquiler en función de lo exageradamente «lujosas» que sean las comodidades. Se trata de un catamarán de alto rendimiento para navegantes que no quieren renunciar a la pura emoción de navegar en un chárter.

Y si tiene la suerte de reservar una semana a bordo del VaiVai antes de que se dirija al sur en otoño, asegúrese de parar a comer ostras en la pequeña isla de Cuttyhunk. Le garantizo que superará a cualquier otro barco de alquiler de vela de la flota de Newport.
