Morning Mimosas Sail

Enjoy a unique start to your morning, sailing on our spacious catamaran taking in the sights of Old San Juan from the bay.

Make yourself comfortable on the front net and take some sun in or sit back in the shaded cockpit area and sip your drink of choice as we narrate some historical facts along the way.

This one-hour and 30-minute sail includes bottomless mimosas, house rum punch, local Medalla beer, rum and cokes, orange and pineapple juice, soda, and water.

Our most popular sail! A relaxing cruise around the calm waters of San Juan Bay to enjoy a beautiful sunset and a perfect start to your evening.

See Old San Juan as it changes from daytime to sunset colors and then city lights coming on at night as we are headed back to the marina.

Our two-hour sailing route stays within the calm, protected waters of San Juan Bay for a relaxing experience.

While the sun is fully out during the time of this sail, the back cockpit area of our catamaran is shaded so you can also enjoy the sail without being subject to the sun.

Environmentally Friendly

In an effort to reduce plastic waste in our seas, we do not serve single-use plastics such as straws and water bottles. We provide 100% Britta filtered water. You are welcome to bring along your reusable bottle and we will fill it up for you. We use compostable cups aboard for included drinks.

Our Ohana 2 is defined as “a yacht or other boat with twin hulls in parallel (imagine two separate big canoes joined together by a platform)” it is the most stable sailing experience you can get while still having a full sailing experience feeling the wind in your face and the fluid motion of the ocean. Equipped with a forward net to lay out, shaded area, spacious cabin in case of rain and full bathroom inside your comfort needs are met for a great sail!

San Juan is located in the subtropical region and is the capital of Puerto Rico. It is one of the most visited cities in the world. The main sightseeing attractions include Old San Juan, El Morro, La Fortaleza and Castillo de San Cristóbal. The culture of this City is influenced by its multicultural past and enjoys the reputation of being full of passionate people in music, art and family traditions!

The climate and geography of San Juan, Puerto Rico make it a popular tourist destination. Food is a big part of this place and you won't be disappointed with the local cuisine such as mofongo, a plantain mash or churrasco steak. The flavors of the island are a fantastic combination that you must experience when you visit the city.

Frequently asked questions

Where are you located.

We are a convenient 5-10 minute drive from the major hotels in the San Juan, Condado and Isla Verde area in Puerto Rico. We are located in San Juan Bay Marina at Slip A72. If you are taking a cab, ask your driver to take you to San Juan Bay Marina and reference where the Sizzler Restaurant is at. Once at the Marina, walk through the boatyard towards the lower part of Sizzler Restaurant. Once at sea level, go past a Jetski rental kiosk towards the long dock with boats on either side. Our slip is on the left past the white gate that leads to the dock. Slip numbers are marked on the floor.

How do I book a sail?

You may book online here, or by clicking any of the “book now” buttons. We ask that you call, text, or email us for same-day bookings to ensure availability even if the calendar doesn’t show it. Online bookings are handled through a secure and encrypted provider accepting most major credit cards.

How should I dress?

For daysails we recommend cool, light clothing, hat, sunglasses and sunblock. While San Juan Bay has very calm waters and you will usually not get wet, there is always the possibility of some small splashes of water. Sunset sails have usually calmer breeze and cooler temperatures so you may dress more comfortably, however we do recommend light clothing. If you choose to go out into the ocean, the possibilities of getting wet are more likely as we will be sailing in bigger seas. No shoes allowed on-board.

At what time should I arrive for my sail?

We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your sail for a proper safety briefing and preparations. Sails depart sharp on time. Plan to be on time as in consideration to others that may be present we can not delay departure time. Failure to be on time for departure will result in forfeiting full fare or a $50 rebooking fee.

How many passengers are allowed on a boat?

We can accommodate 2-6 passengers for a personal, intimate experience. If you wish your sail to be private you may opt for the Private Charter or reserve the boat for your group. If you are sailing alone we ask that you contact us so we may schedule you with a current group.

Do I have to aid in handling the boat?

Your crew will take care of all the boat handling maneuvers so you may sit back and relax, but you are welcome to take part if you want a more hands-on experience.

Will I get seasick?

As we usually sail in very calm waters, the possibilities of getting seasick are almost zero. However, if you have gotten motion sickness at other times, we do recommend taking some remedies beforehand.

What drinks are included?

We offer complimentary soda, water, local beer, rum & coke and special rum punch for adults over 18 years of age. Sunset sails also include Spanish Cava or Prosecco.

Are there age restrictions to sail?

We welcome everyone to enjoy the wonderful experience of sailing! However, US Coast Guard requires children under 13 to wear a lifejacket at all times. There is also certain level of physical exertion that may take place to board and move around so we advise caution for the elderly and persons with mobility issues and serious medical conditions.

Can I bring my own music?

Of course! We encourage you to do so. Our speaker is bluetooth ready so you may connect your own device and use your personal playlist. We use Spotify and Pandora and may look up your favorite station.

Are the booking times shown here the only ones available for a sail?

While the times shown are our standard offerings we are always available for special requests. Give us a call or email us to make special arrangements

What If I have to cancel my reservations?

We have a 48 hour cancellation notice policy for full refund. 48 hours or less cancellations forfeit 50% fare. 24 hour cancellations forfeit full fare. No shows, late to departure time or same-day booking cancellations will forfeit 100% fare.

What happens if my sail is cancelled due to weather?

We want you to enjoy a great experience while sailing with us so we would reschedule your sail for another day when the weather is ideal. If this would not be possible due to your travel plans, we would offer a full refund. The decision to cancel due to weather rests solely on the Captain. Tropical weather can change quite rapidly so some decisions to cancel might be last minute, however we always take into consideration your time and alternate plans so we try to always cancel at least an hour in advance from our scheduled departure time.

We had a great time on the waterfall hike, cliff dive and rope swing tour. The entire experience was great. Be prepared for a good and muddy hike, a bit challenging in places over the rocks. Bring good water shoes or hiking shoes but they will get dirty and wet! We definitely recommend these guys.

We did the rain forest, horse back riding and the Culebra Island tours and they were amazing! The rain forest is for active people and there is some climbing involved to get to the good part. The horse back riding was pretty relaxing and beautiful. And the Island was absolutely breathtaking!

Best tour in San Juan! I’ve been going for 5 years now and I will NEVER let anyone take us on a tour unless it is with Carlos and his team! Good people, good experience, good times to come back to!

The spot chosen for snorkeling was just amazing. Flamenco beach is definitely a must. But what made a difference is the awesome Sail Getaways crew. All of them were super attentive and nice with us. My friend and I took the tour to Tamarindo and Flamenco beach and it was amazing. The weather was perfect which made the ride super smooth. We were a fortunate group to enjoy a beautiful day. Great quick getaway for our group of 13. Quick boat ride to snorkel, excellent fish viewing and lunch. Then a quick boat ride to Flamenco Beach to wander around. The staff was friendly, knowledgable, and patient.

We took the three-in-one catamaran getaway on New Year's Day with Omar and Arturo. Our group was 2 adults a 9 year old and a 5 year old. All of us had an amazing time. Our sunset sail is a unique and enjoyable experience for everyone who visits us in sunny Puerto Rico! Enjoy the warm sunshine while at the beach followed by the beautiful sights of an ocean sailed sunset. Our afternoon and sunset tour takes you to one of the most stunning islands and coral reefs on the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. It’s truly an experience you don’t want to miss!

Transportation:

Roundtrip transportation is available from most locations in Metro San Juan and hotels at an additional cost of $50 per person. Transportation requires a minimum of 6 passengers in total in order to operate. MUST be arranged 48 hours prior to the scheduled trip or transportation is not guaranteed.

Islands That We Visit:

Destination will be determined by our captain on the day of the experience. The destination is determined based on the weather and water conditions of the day. 

Isla de Palominos

Located some 3.5 nautical miles east of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 104 acres. It is one of a few private islands that exist throughout Puerto Rico. Part of the island is on lease to El Conquistador Hotel to be used as the hotel’s beach. About a quarter-mile south of Palominos island lies Cayo Palominitos, which is a one-acre sandy key with tropical vegetation perfect for swimming or snorkeling.

Isla de Lobos

Located some 1.5 nautical miles east of Cayo Icacos, it has a size of approximately five acres. It is also one of a few private islands throughout Puerto Rico. In the early ’60s, the island hosted a very exclusive hotel, which ran into financial difficulties and was abandoned for a great part of the ’70s and ’80s until it was bought by a local family and converted into a paradise vacation home. Surrounded by small keys and coral reefs, it is great for snorkeling.

Cayo Icacos

Located some four nautical miles northeast of Fajardo, it has a size of approximately 163 acres. It is part of a chain of small islands, keys, and coral reefs known as La Reserva Natural de la Cordillera. The island hosts a fairly large amount of marine life, coral reefs, birds, and land iguanas. It is the perfect setting for snorkeling, swimming, diving, and beachcombing. It gets its name from the large number of Icacos bushes on the island. The Icacos is a small sour fruit, which grows to about the size of a key lime. When ready to be picked, they are pale yellow in color and come off the bush quite easily. The best way to eat them is cooked in heavy syrup.

Take advantage of our professional snorkeling lessons provided by our crew, swim and/or snorkel from the shore, walk the soft, white sand beach for some shell hunting, or just relax and sunbathe at your leisure.

After spending some time at the island enjoy a delicious picnic lunch prepared and served on board by our crew. After lunch your boat will head back out on the water and anchor approximately 200 yards offshore over a living coral reef. Here you will have the opportunity to snorkel over the reef and view numerous tropical fish and coral formations. Relax as the catamaran returns you back to the marina on a picturesque sail and recount this amazing day with your fellow shipmates, making memories that will not soon be forgotten.

Cruising Catamaran Learn-n-Cruise

Basic coastal cruising (asa 103), bareboat cruising/charter (asa 104) and cruising catamaran (asa 114), (11 am saturday through 11 am friday).

Our most popular course model, this weeklong live-aboard course will take you out in the San Juan Islands aboard one of our swift, stable, spacious catamarans, for a long stretch of sailing, exploring and learning, in a relaxing teaching environment. This course is designed to develop your fundamental sailing and navigation skills as well as to introduce you to the skills unique to multihull sailing and twin engine maneuvering. You will have the opportunity to achieve Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103), Bareboat Cruising (ASA 104) and Cruising Catamaran (ASA 114). Basic Sailing certification or equivalent experience is a prerequisite.

• If you already have ASA 103 and 104, you can still attend this course and enjoy a more relaxing week of review and skill refinement, while also completing your ASA 114.
• You’ll learn the skills essential to skippering a twin screw 38' - 41' catamaran aboard this comprehensive weeklong course.
• This course will cover sailing fundamentals for Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103) and Bareboat Cruising/Charter Certification (ASA 104), well as the nuances of multihull cruising for Cruising Catamaran (ASA 114).
• The course is taught on one of our beautiful catamarans and is geared to the student who is primarily interested in learning and sailing on a catamaran and who wants the added skills to charter multihulls between 30 and 50 feet.
• There will be both a written and a skills test for each certification to complete the course. Thorough study of the texts, Basic Coastal Cruising Made Easy, Bareboat Cruising Made Easy and Cruising Catamarans Made Easy , will prepare you for your course and greatly enhance your learning experience. The curricula (links below) are helpful to follow while reviewing the texts and will streamline your studying.
• Based on boat size and cabin layout, this course can accommodate up to 5 students. A 4 student minimum is needed to send a course.
• There will be opportunities for free time, to go ashore and explore the island beaches and trails, villages and marinas, or simply enjoy a quiet anchorage from the cockpit of your catamaran.
• All meals included, with the exception on one night, when you’ll eat ashore and enjoy the local island dining. Overnight will mostly be at anchor or mooring ball, with one night at a marina. Bed linens are included.

Spend 7 days/6 nights living aboard and learning from an ASA certified USCG Captain/Instructor, while exploring the San Juan Islands. Tuition includes your ASA 103, 104 & 114 certifications, a private stateroom, linens, meal provisioning, fuel and moorage. *To receive the $300 shared stateroom discount, you and the person you will be sharing a stateroom with must book your course together. We do not pair people who do not know each other.

This course covers ASA 103 (Basic Coastal Cruising), ASA 104 (Bareboat Cruising/Chartering), and ASA 114 (Cruising Catamaran). If you prefer to join the class to practice hands-on skills but not pursue ASA certifications, you are welcome to do so. Please let us know if you will not be pursuing ASA certifications and we will discount your tuition $60.

Now you’re ready for your first catamaran bareboat charter vacation! Click here for information on options to let you implement and enjoy what you have learned after graduation and to help you continue to build your sailing skills.

Please arrive at our office at 10:45 am. We will introduce you to your instructor and you’ll begin loading your gear onto your boat (making lunch together with your crewmates will be your first activity before departing). You'll want to be fully prepared to take your Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103) written test either Saturday evening or Sunday morning, after you are on the boat. This is the first of three written tests. Each level of certification has a written exam and a skills exam and every few days another written exam will be completed. Thorough study of the textbooks will prepare you for the course and greatly enhance your learning. We highly recommend using the curriculum (link below), in conjunction with the textbooks, as a guide to help streamline your studying.

At the end of your learning vacation your boat will return to the San Juan Sailing docks by noon on Friday. Please allow yourself two additional hours to unload, debrief, and shower when planning your transportation home.
