Tahiti

Tahiti is the international arrival point and is the largest island in French Polynesia. The interior of the island is pretty much uninhabited, it is mountainous with flowing streams and cascading waterfalls. The majority of Tahitians live in the capital Papeete where there are tourist attractions, shopping, fine dining and high-end resorts and spas.

One of the largest islands in the Society archipelago, Mo'orea is famous for its crystal clear waterfalls that tumble down from jagged volcanic peaks. Pastel coloured villages are nestled into a rain forest highlighted with pink and red frangipani and hibiscus. The surrounding lagoon thrives with vibrant corals and an abundance of tropical fish.

Huahine is the wildest and most secretive island of the Society Islands it is composed by two islands: Huahine Nui (big Huahine) in the North and Huahine Iti (small Huahine) in the South separated by a narrow channel. Both offer a luxuriant vegetation, white sandy beaches, small coves hidden from the eyes, coral desert islets, a lagoon with turquoise colours and much diversified food and fruit-producing cultivation. A real haven of peace for recharging the batteries!

Raiatea is the second largest island. Located 193 km north-west from Tahiti, Raiatea has an authentic charm thanks to its historical prosperity, legends and sacral mountain Mount Temehani, that stands at 772 metres high. To the south of Raiatea, there are beautiful waterfalls and the Faaroa river, that offers the possibility of kayaking to enjoy the unspoiled nature of this mystic island.

This unique island shares a huge lagoon with Raiatea, is famous for vanilla plantations and the cultivation of exquisite pearls. Visit a pearl farm and examine some of Tahiti's finest export before jumping in the sea at the 'coral river'. Glide over hundreds of colourful coral species while being pursued by a school of brilliant yellow butterfly fish.

The legends and romance associated with Bora Bora bring an almost mystical presence to the island. Part of the allure, are the towering black peaks that dominate the centre of this volcanic archipelago. The emerald waters of the lagoon and the surrounding barrier reef offer a kaleidoscope of colourful fish and living corals. For a fun night on shore, then Bloody Mary's restaurant is a must!

Are you currently planning a Vacation or Honeymoon to Bora Bora and Tahiti? Or, do you just have questions about the destination? Either way, we can help.

When you commission your private voyage through Venture Tahiti and Tahiti Yacht Charter, your culinary preferences are not forgotten.  In addition to your English-speaking Skipper, you will be accompanied on your private charter by a hostess who will also prepare all of your meals.  Prior to your trip, your Venture Tahiti Concierge will contact you and ask you to share your preferences for food and drink.  Your hostess will accommodate any food allergies or special diets as well.

All of your meals (continental breakfast, lunch and dinner) are included during your cruise, with the exception of lunch on your first and last days.  Your included dining will commence with dinner on the day you embark and end with a continental breakfast on your final day.  Juice and hot drinks are included with your continental breakfast.  However, drinking water and other drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cruise) are not included in your package pricing.  You will have the opportunity to have the galley stocked with your favorite cocktails, liquor, beer, wine, water, and soft beverages as well.  A price list which is generally about 10% higher than local supermarket pricing will be presented to you when you are asked for your cuisine preferences.

Your private yacht experience through Venture Tahiti is a never ending “excursion”.  However, there are many opportunities for additional land and water-based activities along the way.  On your voyage, you will have the opportunity to swim in magnificent lagoons (with sharks and rays, should you choose to).  You can also take advantage of the included sea kayak or stand-up paddle boarding equipment, floating hammocks, snorkeling gear, and maybe even a sunset cruise (weather allowing).  These non-motorized experiences are included in the price of your charter.

For an additional charge, there will be local options depending on your choice of itinerary, including shopping on Huahine, touring a vanilla plantation on Taha’a, or visiting the Bora Bora’s Lagoonarium to see additional aquatic life.  If you choose an itinerary featuring Bora Bora, you may even desire to schedule a massage at the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort’s famous Thalasso Spa.

All our boats have 4 double cabins and 2 or 4 bathrooms, depending on the model. They can take up to 10 guests. The “Classic” types are much appreciated by families and groups of friends and represent an excellent value-for-money. Our “Grande Croisière” models, equipped with generator, air conditioning and water maker, are ideal for sailing in the Tuamotu, where there are water shortages. The standard of comfort is that of a home. We organize private cruises, with or without crew, for couples or more. The only other persons on board will be your crew and they know how to make themselves unobtrusive whenever it is appropriate.

The Deck Plan shown is for the Lagoon 40.

Tahiti Yacht Charter

Islands that evoke a beautiful state of mind.

French Polynesia, often referred to as “ Tahiti  and her Islands”, marries a perfect blend of French sophistication with a joyful and party-like spirit. The local people combine modern living with ancestral rhythms linked to the sun and the sea.

At first glimpse, the 118 islands of French Polynesia seem to inspire as little activity as possible – lounging on the beach, taking a dip in warm, turquoise water, or simply napping in an overwater bungalow – but this archetypal island paradise presents plenty of adventures to entice you away from more sedentary pursuits. The three most visited archipelagos by charterers are the Society Islands, comprised of Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine, Raiatea and Taha’a. They offer the most comprehensive array of activities, both on land and in the water.

When to Visit

Tahiti and her Islands are located south of the equator, in the  South Pacific , halfway between California and  Australia . The climate is moderately tropical, warm and humid with two distinct seasons. The average temperature is around 27°C. The waters in the lagoon average 26°C in winter and 29°C in summer.

Graph of temperatures on a yacht charter itinerary Tahiti

Summer is from November through April, with a warmer and more humid climate. Winter is from May through October, when the climate is slightly cooler and drier. The dry and windy season lasts from March to November, when the temperatures are cooled by the regular southeast trade winds called Mara’amu. April, June and September are very good months, with July and August being the tourist peak months. The rainier months are January and February, with brief heavy rains but still warm temperatures.

Luxury resort on a yacht charter itinerary Tahiti

Because of its exceptional biodiversity, scientists consider the Polynesian seazone to be the “richest aquarium on earth”. The crystal-clear waters of Tahiti and its islands are home to more than 1,000 species of fish dispersed between the lagoon, the reef and the ocean. Schools of damselfish, mullet and soldierfish frolic in the coral lace-work as striped convict surgeonfish and frowning Picasso triggerfish pass by. View the Tahiti Scuba Guide here.

Shark swimming on a yacht charter itinerary Tahiti

Tahitians describe their laid-back culture as ‘aita pea pea,’ an expression meaning ‘not to worry’ in English. The bustling Papeete Municipal Market , the vibrant nightlife of Tahiti’s capital, and the young people practicing their hip-hop skills on the street are the noisiest things visitors are likely to encounter during their stay on this tranquil island.

Tahitian pearls with a yacht charter itinerary Tahiti

The first people to set eyes on Tahiti and French Polynesia’s other isolated islands migrated from Southeast Asia roughly 4,000 years ago. Most of today’s South Pacific residents are descendants of these sailors who navigated the Pacific Ocean’s challenging waters aboard wooden canoes stitched with natural fibers.

Fly into Papeete to join the yacht anchored in the marina and freshen up. Step on board and let the crew introduce you to your new home for the next seven days, with a welcome greeting by the local dancers. After settling in, you can tour the island and go to the local markets to get a taste of the island life. At most resorts throughout the islands, a Tama’ara’a or Tahitian Feast is held at least once a week. This involves cooking in a ahima’a (an oven that has been dug into the ground). Food is wrapped in banana leaves and the hole is covered with sand making it airtight. Cooking can take up to several hours but is well worth the wait as the food comes out soft, tender and fall-off-the-bone ready.

Head out to Moorea in the morning. Moorea is one of the most scenically striking islands, perfect for a  French Polynesia yacht charter . Possessing a relaxed vibe and welcoming spirit, Moorea is just as warm and inviting as the Tahitians lucky enough to call this island home. You can travel by tender to swim and hand feed sharks and stingrays. This popular excursion is thrilling and can be enjoyed on most of the main islands. You’ll be able to get in the water and swim with them or simply watch from the boat. In the afternoon we go ashore and travel by Four Wheel Drive or scooter to explore around the island. Getting around on a 4WD guided tour is a great way to discover volcanic islands like Moorea.

Overnight we travel to Huahine which is 70 nautical miles to the North West.

View of peaks on a yacht charter itinerary Tahiti

After cruising through the night, we wake up at Huahine for breakfast. The island is equivalent to the Garden of Eden. Beyond its lush landscapes and bright blooms, Huahine is also a culturally preserved sanctuary with sacred temples. The island feels like you are stepping back in time; this is a much different kind of French Polynesian experience. Undoubtedly, this island will leave you spellbound. In the afternoon we have lunch with a Motu Picnic while resting your feet in the clear water and enjoying the delights the islands have to offer. You can tour the ancient Marae (archeological sites). For water activity you can feed the sacred blue-eyed eels of Faie Village. You also have the opportunity to snorkel in coral gardens.

We will spend the night anchored off Huahine Island.

Total cruising time approx. 7 hours

Turquoise waters on Huahine coast, Tahiti yacht charter itinerary

First thing in the morning we cruise to Raiatea to visit the many pearl farms located inside the lagoon. The world-renowned iridescent luster of Mother Nature’s most perfect gem can only be created in Tahiti warm lagoon waters. Commonly known around the world as Black Pearls, each Tahitian Cultured Pearl ranges in size and shape and the colours range from the darkest black to shimmering shades of green, blue, bronze, aubergine, or even pink. After an afternoon of exploring, we dig into a delicious meal on board and spend the night on the ocean.

Total cruising time approx. 2.5 hours

We continue our journey to Taha’a which is enclosed to Raiatea by a coral reef. Suitably shaped like a flower, the island is also an immense natural greenhouse for the highly-prized Tahitian vanilla orchid. Thanks to this abundance, the intoxicating scent of vanilla pervades the air in Taha’a, meaning this island is just as sweet as it sounds. Have lunch onboard before heading out for an excursion of the vanilla plantations and the local produce.

Since the scenery here is especially remarkable, Taha’a is ideal for hiking. You can explore these ascending slopes and deep valleys while discovering the diverse flora and fauna along the way.

Snorkeling is also a popular pastime in Taha’a. There is a shallow coral garden between Motu Maharare and Motu Tautau where you can drift snorkel amidst scores of intensely hued tropical fish.

Hiking in the rainforest on a yacht charter itinerary Tahiti

In the morning travel 2 hours to Bora Bora and enjoy an amazing view of the atoll and the villas over the water. Bora Bora is French Polynesia’s leading lady, undoubtedly the most celebrated island in the South Pacific.

The wonderful thing about Bora Bora is that you can be as active or inactive as you wish to be. Since water is a way of life on the island, popular lagoon excursions include snorkeling, diving, cruising, fishing, paddle boarding, kitesurfing, jet skiing, and shark and ray feeding. You can also explore in and around the lagoon with a sea bob.

After spending the afternoon in the crystal-clear waters, come back on board for sunset cocktails in the jacuzzi. We will enjoy a delicious dinner to recount all of our day adventures around the table.

Tahiti Yacht Charter Itinerary

Explore the beautiful islands of South Pacific on your luxury Tahiti yacht charter . This is just a sample itinerary to give you an idea of what you can see and do on a week long charter. Once you select a boat, your captain will prepare a custom-made itinerary just for you and your guests.

Days 1 & 2: Moorea

Moorea Tahiti

From Tahiti, cruise to the island of Moorea – a distance of 15 miles (approximately 1.5 hours of cruising). During the day, tour the island by four-wheel drive vehicle or motor scooter, swim with manta rays, and enjoy good diving on the outer reef pass. The oceans around Moorea offer some of the best diving in the world. Just as the islands feature mountains, cliffs, and valleys, the sea bottom offer canyons, chasms, and promontories. Anchor overnight at Moorea.

The next morning, move to a different anchorage on the island and spend the day snorkeling, fishing and on the beach. Depart the second night after dinner for the island of Huahine, a distance of 90 miles (about 9 hours).

Days 3 & 4: Huahine

Huahine Tahiti

Huahine is an escape into a modern day Garden of Eden. This verdant tropical jungle features abundant coconut plantations, vanilla orchids, banana groves, fields of watermelon, and flowering breadfruit trees.

Huahine is also home to the largest concentration of ancient temples (or marae) which may date back to the earliest inhabitants around 700 AD. Just outside of Maeve Village, you can see the largest stone temple along with hundreds of excavated structures.

Day 5: Tahaa

Tahiti Raiatea

Sail to the island of Raiatea and Tahaa , a distance of 25 miles (approximately 2.5 hours). Tahaa is also called the Vanilla Island, and as your yacht approaches this small island, you’ll understand why. The pleasant smell of vanilla fills the air as local farmers grow more than 70% of all vanilla produced in Tahiti.

Tahaa offers a relaxing atmosphere and simple vacation escape. The island is surrounded by “motu,” or very small islands. You will love exploring the landscape and villages. Cruise into peaceful bays, enjoy a picnic lunch on a sandy motu, or hike along ancient footpaths to the Temehani Plateau or to Mount Temehani.

Anchor overnight at Tahaa.

Days 6 & 7: Bora Bora

Bora Bora huts

Depart mid-afternoon for the island of Bora Bora , a distance of 20 miles (about 2 hours). Arrive in the late afternoon and anchor for the evening. The next explore the island by land, visit the highest point on the island to view the lagoon and its amazing colors. In the evening, explore the inside of the reef by tender and watch the shark feeding. Depart on an evening flight to Tahiti.

How to charter a boat in Tahiti

SAIL Tahiti offers catamaran charter in Tahiti. Our catamarans are privately owned by individuals who have decided to offer their boats for charter.   Simply inform us for your group size, your dates and give us some ideas of what you’d like to do during your catamaran charter and we’ll take care of the rest!

How does a yacht charter work in Tahiti?

Boat rental in Tahiti begins with defining your requirements. You need to know how long you want your charter to last, how many people you’d like to take part in the adventure, what the dates of your stay are, and so on. With this information, you’ll be able to choose the catamaran that best suits your needs. For each catamaran, you’ll find a description of the boat to learn more about its equipment. In particular, you can find out how many berths are available.

You’ll also find plenty of photos of the catamaran, so you can see what it looks like inside and out. If you have any further questions about a particular catamaran, please don’t hesitate to contact our teams. We’ll be delighted to tell you more about our boats, and how boat rental in Tahiti works with our services.

What’s more, if you’ve fallen in love with a boat and would like to proceed with a yacht charter in Tahiti, you can book your stay by getting in touch with our teams. We’ll accompany you step by step to ensure that the catamaran you’ve chosen meets your requirements, and we’ll make sure you get a tailor-made offer. We can then take care of the administrative side of the booking, so all you have to do is enjoy your cruise afterwards.

What types of boats are available for charter in Tahiti?

In Tahiti, there are many different boats to choose from, depending on your budget. You could even consider cruising on a luxury yacht, but these vessels can be difficult to access and represent quite a budget.

A catamaran is an excellent choice to enjoy an adventure without sacrificing comfort,. With its roomy interior and large cockpit, you can accommodate bigger groups as needed.. There are even catamarans equipped to take advantage of certain activities to make your adventure all the more fun, live diving, surfing, paddleboarding, and wing foiling.

Charter Itineraries

How many cabins are there on our catamarans?

The number of cabins on a catamaran varies from model to model. What’s more, it’s important to distinguish between the number of cabins and the number of berths. A cabin can contain several berths. So, when it comes to chartering a boat in Tahiti, we recommend that you consider the number of guests that can be accommodated on each boat. This way, you can be sure that everyone will have a berth throughout the cruise. Then you can consider the number of cabins for logistical and privacy reasons, as well as the number of bathrooms on the boat.

Even if a catamaran has only small but cozy spaces for resting, it’s quite possible to enjoy a very comfortable stay. Take a look at the photos of our boats to see for yourself. Sleeping accommodations are comfortable and you can enjoy real privacy at night, despite the small size of the rooms, which is more than made up for by the outdoor relaxation areas.

How much does a yacht charter in Tahiti cost?

The price of a catamaran charter in Tahiti varies according to several factors, such as the type of boat chosen, the rental period and, of course, the duration. We offer preferential prices for early bookings and longer periods.

Boat size and model

The price of a yacht charter in Tahiti depends above all on the model chosen. Indeed, some boats are larger, more fully equipped or more luxurious than others, which inevitably means an additional cost for their reservation. We therefore advise you to choose a boat that suits your budget. Bear in mind that this is a holiday that you’ll be sharing with several people, so you may well want to consider splitting the cost of your Tahiti boat rental so that it’s less of a burden for you.

Charter period

The rental period also plays an important role in boat rental in Tahiti. In fact, there are certain periods that are more popular than others. This is particularly true of the so-called dry season, which runs from April to October. Hiring a boat during this period is generally more expensive than at other times of the year. That said, you’ll enjoy a mild, pleasant climate all year round, so you can make the most of your yacht charter in Tahiti.

Onboard activities

Some catamarans allow you to enjoy a wide range of water sports with dedicated equipment. Your yacht charter in Tahiti could be the perfect opportunity to try your hand at kiteboarding, foiling, surfing, diving, wakeboarding, paddleboarding or kayaking, for example. So don’t hesitate to opt for a boat rental in Tahiti that offers these services, and make the most of your stay to discover a multitude of activities in the most beautiful settings.

In fact, it’s entirely possible to benefit from the presence of a water sports coach on request. You’ll benefit from the expertise of a coach to help you learn how to use the different equipment and even progress during your stay. If you’re looking for a dynamic, sporty vacation, don’t hesitate to ask for a water sports coach and opt for a boat rental in Tahiti with a range of equipment.

Which are Polynesia’s most beautiful islands?

French Polynesia is a vast expanse of islands in the Pacific Ocean: 118 islands and atolls spread over a territory the size of Western Europe. The itinerary of your catamaran charter in Polynesia will therefore depend on the time you wish to devote to your cruise. Longer charters will take you to the Marquesas Islands, a wildly beautiful archipelago. You’ll discover the magnificent anchorages of Nuku Hiva, Hiva Oa, Tahuata and the famous Baie des Vierges at Fatu Hiva.

The Society Archipelago, made up of the Windward Islands and Leeward Islands, is Polynesia’s most densely populated archipelago. It’s the easiest in terms of navigation, with relatively short distances. The landscapes are varied, combining high volcanic islands and enchanting lagoons.

Don’t miss the famous volcanic island of Tahiti, home to the capital Papeete. Nearby, the neighboring island of Moorea is a veritable playground for fans of water sports and marine animal watching. You can then continue your cruise to the Leeward Islands, where you’ll find the wildest Huahine, vanilla island Tahaa, sacred Raiatea and the dreamy lagoon of Bora Bora.

The Tuamotu Islands, Polynesia’s largest archipelago, is ideal for disconnecting from the world on its heavenly atolls and indulging in water sports. The atolls are veritable oases of underwater life in the middle of the vastness of the Pacific. The passes are among the world’s most famous diving spots. Here you’ll rub shoulders with tuna, bonito, king mackerel, trevally and various species of shark, from the harmless blacktip to the impressive and enigmatic great hammerhead.

When is the best time to sail in Polynesia?

The best time to charter a catamaran in Polynesia is during the dry season, from April to October, but you can sail in Polynesia all year round. Temperatures are warm, and the steady trade winds allow you to sail in peace in the magnificent lagoons of the Polynesian archipelagos.

The Marquesas, located closer to the equator, are an ideal archipelago for sailing from December to March, as the warm season here is less rainy than elsewhere in Polynesia.

Located in the middle of the Pacific, at 18 degrees south latitude, Polynesia’s Société archipelago, with its pleasant tropical climate, calm lagoons and magnificent seabed, is an ideal destination for a catamaran cruise. Sailing from island to island and through the lagoons is relatively easy.

Ask our team your questions!

I lived ‘below deck’ on a luxury yacht — here’s what you need to know.

Tahiti, St. Thomas and the French Riviera — I’ve yachted in all of these exotic locales, albeit from the comfort of my couch. And, millions of Americans are in the same boat.

In 2013, “Below Deck,” introduced the masses to the most glamorous mode of traveling: yachting. Since then, it’s become a Bravo mainstay with Season 9 of “Below Deck Mediterranean’’ premiering in June.

But how real is the reality show? I spent five nights on a yacht in Croatia to find out.

A woman in a bikini standing on the deck of the 'Adriatic Escape' boat, ready to experience reality TV drama on the high seas in Maldives.

A tip on tipping

My suitcase wasn’t bursting with Benjamins. An agency at your final destination provides cash for the crew’s tip money. While you’re expected to tip $30,000 for a two-night cruise on “Below Deck,” in real life you only have to tip 10% to 15% of your charter fee. That’s about $10,000 for a two-night cruise on a 180-foot charter yacht like Mustique (from $250,000 a week), which stars in the new season.

According to Zvonimir Androić, president of the yacht charter company Via Croatia, more often than not, the tip comes from what’s left over after provisioning.

So, shun the Dom Pérignon and skip the beluga caviar, and you’ll have money to spare.

What’s up, dock?

A luxury yacht, named Adriatic Escape, docked at Split Marina with a weekly rental price of US$52,800

In real life, “Below Deck’s” favorite commercial-break cliff-hanger isn’t nearly as dramatic. Docking in our yacht, Via Croatia’s five-cabin, 100-foot Adriatic Escape (from $52,800 a week), was breezy.

I asked the crew if they hated setting up the slide — a tortuous, Herculean task if you believe what you see on TV.

“It’s not that bad,” a twentysomething Croatian deckhand, as cute as his on-screen counterparts, told me. “That said, we’re definitely not sad if you don’t ask for it.”

Play it cool

Barbie Pascual arranging a table on the set of Below Deck Season 11.

Despite being served meat on more than one occasion, my vegetarian co-guests on board weren’t divas when it came to cuisine — a major source of chef-related stress on the show.

Tantrums aren’t the norm Barbie Pascual, the “Below Deck” stewardess famous for putting up with former “RHONY” star Jill Zarin’s demands for the perfect Diet Coke in the “Real Housewives of Grenada” episode, tells me. “Guests know they are being filmed so their reactions are more extreme than they’d be if the cameras weren’t around,” she says.

Pascual’s biggest tip for first-time yachters? Don’t go skinny dipping, like they do on the show, after dark.

“People forget about currents, sharks, etc.,” she says. “Jumping in the water should always be with the captain’s consent!”

Our humorless Croatian yacht captain was a far cry from “Below Deck Mediterranean’s” affable Captain Sandy Yawn. I think we only saw him twice over the course of four days, and he definitely didn’t join us for dinner.

That was fine by us because the stews and deckhands were always handy with anything we needed — including at chat.

Asking for it

A group of people on the Adriatic Escape boat, available for weekly rent at $52,800

“No” is a word you’ll never hear on a yacht, unless there is a safety issue, Pascual says.

While we didn’t ask our crew to do a striptease or decorate for ‘70s night (two recurring requests on the show), out-there demands aren’t out of the question, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

For example, Via Croatia is currently retrofitting one of its multimillion-dollar superyachts for an upcoming charter booked by a multigenerational Jewish family from Florida.

“In addition to paying the charter fee, the client is literally buying everything new: pots, pans, silverware, et cetera,” said Androić. “They’re even spending $30,000 on a new tender for the elderly mother-in-law.”

Now, I’m no reality show producer, but a picky primary trying to keep his wife, her elderly mom and their kosher kids happy at sea has the makings of an Emmy Award-winning episode.

Yachting on a budget

Agape Rose, an ultra luxury mini cruiser yacht with various amenities, sailing on Croatia's Adriatic coast.

Charters are cheapest at the beginning and end of a destination’s season. Via Croatia’s yuppiest yacht, the 160-foot, 12-cabin Agape Rose , fetches $200,000 a week in July and August. But it’s just $164,000 a week in April and October. Divide that by 24 of your closest friends and family and it’s just $6,800 a person.

If that’s still too much, consider booking a yacht club suite on one of MSC Cruises ’ Mediterranean voyages.

Sure, you’ll be on a cruise liner, but for $1,659 a person you’ll be treated to seven nights of private butler service with a private pool and restaurant that the pleb passengers don’t even know exists.
