Among the best Italian yacht brands we have to count Azimut in our top 5 list. The business was founded by Paolo Vitelli in 1969. The first yacht that defined the history of the brand was the AZ 43’ Bali one and it “was an immediate success”. One of Azimut’s sayings is ”Italian as a way of life” meaning their attention to detail in the production of every single yacht is impeccable.

Azimut’s products show elegance, luxury, and the best quality you could find. No wonder it’s at the top of the Italian luxury yacht brands. There are about 6 collections on the website. The founders are the Balducci family who came up with the Mangusta name in 1985. The name comes from mongoose, which is ”the only animal that can tackle and defeat cobras. At that time the best company for fast vessels used to be the Cobra by Tecnomarine.

So the Mangusta was a new challenge, to beat the existing company in the best Italian sailing yachts brands. Giuseppe Balducci’s history also begins in Viareggio when he was working in a historic shipyard. The innovations that came after these years are truly amazing and it’s still a well-respected company.

You’ll find three types of yachts, Mangusta Oceano, Gransport, and Maxiopen. I found the Maxi Open the most interesting. It is a luxury sports yacht, it’s designed to be spacious while still offering enough speed. The smallest model can still hold up to 14 people on board in total. While the 132E has 5 cabins for guests and the owner, plus another 3 for the crew. So in total, it can fit up to 17 people. You can bring a lot of your friends to this yacht.

Using Riva’s own words about its yachts ”Devil is in the details” and I couldn’t agree more. Out of the 10 Italian luxury yacht brands Riva is probably the most luxurious looking with so much detail. It was founded in 1842 by Pietro Riva. Today it is part of the Ferretti Group.

You’ll find three different yachts at Riva, the Sportfly, Open, and Flybridge. Sportyfly’s largest yacht is the 88’ Folgore. It’s an ”irresistible thunderbolt”, it’s fast, beautiful and the design is just magnificent. It has 4 cabins and two standard crew cabins. The interior has everything you ever need for your vacation on the Italian coast.

From the Flybridge collection, I like the 110’ Dolcevita the most. It’s their new fiberglass flagship. And it is also a collaboration between Officina Italiana Design and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department. The yacht itself is stunning, and aesthetically pleasing with the highest technology. It has 5 cabins and 3 standard crew cabins, so it’s quite spacious. Let’s see the last of the Italian yacht brands.

5. Sanlorenzo

The last on our list of Italian sailing yachts brands is Sanlorenzo. They have over 60 years of experience in this field, founded by Gianfranco Cecchi and Giuliano Pecchia in 1958. They have been building high-quality motor yachts that can be ordered on request. And their motto is ’made to measure’, meaning you can request them to be made in many ways.

There are 4 collections to note at Sanlorenzo. SL, SD, SX and SP Range. The SL yacht for example is elegant and well-balanced, available in 6 different models. All of them can be personalized based on the owner’s taste and passions. Let’s take the SL106 Asymmetric as an example. It is 32,38 meters long and can fit a total of 15 people on board.

Continuing our list of Italian luxury yacht brands, next up is Baglietto. The brand was founded over 160 years ago, in 1854 with just the dream of having small fishing boats. Its founder is Pietro Baglietto whose vision was so clear that even today Baglietto is a well-respected yachts brand. He created racing boats, cruising yachts, and standard boats. Over the year the family business has been passed down to generations.

Today they stand proud as a 160 years old business that creates the most amazing yachts in Italy. There are 4 distinctive ranges to look at. The Dom Line, Tline, Fast Line, and Superfast Line. But besides these 4 ranges, Baglietto also offers the possibility to custom make your own yacht.

In the Fast Line, there are 3 different models designed by Francesco Paszkowski. The Fast43 is a 43.65 meters long yacht that can hold up to 17 people, out of which 7 are crew members. Another designer for Baglietto is Stefano Vafiadis, whose range is the Dom Line. The Dom 133 – Hybrid, has an overall length of 40.60 meters and can hold up to 18 people. The interior design is magnificent. You can literally live on this yacht!

7. Ferretti

The Ferretti Group was founded by the Ferretti brothers in 1968. They were previously marketing motor boats for an American Firm but then decided to build their own ones. The first one was built in 1971 and was called a ‘motor sailer’. After this, a series of other motor yachts were built by the Ferretti brothers, and soon they expanded into a bigger company.

The Ferretti Group also owns Riva, Custom Line, and CRN. So what type of “boats” can you buy from one of the best Italian yachts brands like Ferretti? According to the company, “the Ferretti Yachts fleet is a rich mix of comfort”. Let’s take the FERRETTI YACHTS 1000, which is a new concept of yachts. It looks and feels luxurious from the inside out.

The amount of time spent on designing and prototyping these yachts is over 15,000 hours. And to this day, it is their largest yacht built. The exterior looks premium with all of the details thought out carefully. The interiors look like the inside of an apartment. With sofas, tables, and chairs that make up a lounge and allow 20 people to be on board. The bedrooms and bathrooms are stunning too!

8. Rossinavi

The brand Rossivani is fairly new compared to the other Italian sailing yachts brands. Rossivani was founded in 2007 by Cantiere Fratelli Rossi. So many brands in Italy have been created by families and passed down to generations, working with the same passion. They create stylish yet simple designs which are made to last for years to come.

On their website, you can check out the fleets as they were made in each year, all the way back to 2000. The “South” was the first-ever made yacht by the Rossivani company and it’s 54 meters. The average speed is 15 knots with a maximum of 17, meanwhile smaller yachts go between 6-8. These yachts can accommodate up to 12 guests.

Looking at the newest model which is the “Piacere” one, was built for anyone in all types of sea conditions. It’s made in a way that both the internal and external spaces are optimized. The overall length is almost 50 meters. Although it doesn’t say how many people can fit into this yacht, however, you can choose to have a large garage on the bow. Simply said, it’s a pretty big yacht!

The story of CRN began in 1963 in Ancona which is in the Marche region of Italy. If you’re familiar with this region, then you know the Le Marche beaches as beautiful, so it’s only right that you need a yacht to discover all of them. CRN comes from “Costruzioni e Riparazioni Navali” which translates to “Shipbuilding and Ship Repairs”. Ancona has been a “strategic maritime hub” for 2400 years.

CRN is passionate about steel and aluminum, to bring their ideas to life and listen to your visions of how you imagine the yacht to be. They say “if you can dream it, we can make it”. Looking at the CRN Megayachts, they are definitely larger than the previous ones on our list. Mimtee for example is a beauty of 79 meters and it was designed for families.

Another beautiful 54,80-meter yacht is the Atlante. It’s quite huge and it fits around 13 guests. Although the exterior is more similar to the exterior of a ship, the yacht is still beautiful and functional for pleasure use. Other fleets CRN designed are Ciao, Rio, Voice, or Cloud 9. The Cia and Rio are the newest addition to the 2022 year. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for premium yachts!

As we have mentioned before, Custom Line is owned by the Ferretti Group. If you have seen the yachts they produce then you know you’ll only get the best quality. What does Custom Line promise to deliver then? Their fleets are “designed to fulfill every lifestyle and cruising need”. They have two main fleet lines, the Planing, and Navetta. All of these yachts were made with excellence in mind, so your sailings can go as smoothly as you can expect them to.

From the Navetta line, the 42 is the company’s largest displacement yacht. It is practical, it’s stunning and it blends into the sea. What’s even better is that this beauty is fully customizable. The birth and the history of Italian excellence in the yacht world: Sessa Marine company. Dynamism and innovation, design and technology, style and quality: these are the exclusive features.

The history of Sessa Marine is a perfect example of the Italian entrepreneurial culture, where entrepreneurship and technological approach allowed the company to achieve excellence. Recognized for features such as dynamism and innovation, Sessa Marine conceives and realizes exclusive boats that combine design and technology, quality and style, without ever losing sight of its ultimate goal: producing "emotions" to anyone owning a Sessa Marine Yacht.

Since the beginning

Sessa was founded in 1958 and the company was one of the first industry in Italy for the production of fenolic and poliester resin.

In 1968 the company enters into the marine industry with the first participation at the Genoa bot show and the beginning of a production diversification for the reinforced plastics.

The 70s years marked the production of small boats in Sessa Aurunca (South of Italy) factory and the construction of a new small shipyard in Cinisello Balsamo (North of Italy).

In 1972 the factory in Arcone near Milan was purchased and in 1973 , Sessa is the first Italian company to install the new Piaggio jets and to build the first small inboard jet units.

In 1986 the company moved from Arcore to Lesmo (Milan) and two days later the boat production was transferred to the province of Bergamo, thanks to the acquisition of Fyberstamp.

At this time, Fyberstamp was building boats wellknown all over the world like Riva and Ferretti.

It is from this moment that the production of the new range of boats begins and the brand turn decisively towards new horizons and bigger market objectives. It begins to build larger boats and starts to dedicate space to marketing activities and to product’s improvement.

Historical models from the 80s such as Mambo, Samba and Sunshine have been replaced by the new Key Largo, Oyster and Key West ranges.

In 1992 Fyberstamp merged with Sessa, founding Sessa Marine Spa , the company that we know nowadays. Lesmo plant closed in order to concentrate all the efforts to Cividate Shipyard that was modernized and increased in size in 1999 with the development of moulding and assembly department.

Around the world

In 2006 Sessa America branch in Florida is opened.

In 2008 with the launch of the new flagship C68 Sessa Marine enters the Yachts market of over 20 mt. C68 was also awarded in France as the “best boat design under 70 feet”.

In 2009 The model KEY LARGO 36 was awarded the title “Boat of the year 2009” from the magazine Motor Boating USA.

In 2010 The shipyard launched the first sport “Fly bridge” that will change the concept of its category.

In 2011 Sessa Brasil was founded with a new production plant in South America.

In 2015 Sessa Marine becoming Sessa International Srl.

In 2017 A new generation concept  is presented in world premiere, the new flagship Fly68 Gullwing.

In 2018 Some new models of Key Largo, Cruiser and Yacht range have been presented with new wide side windows that characterize the unique style and signature of the brand.

In 2020 the newflagship of the Key Largo range is presented: Key Largo 40.

In 2023 , a group of entrepreneurs, who are already owners of the Sessa Marine production line in Brazil, acquires 100% of the shares of Sessa Marine International, initiating a new era for the brand.

With a global focus and two factories operating in sync in Brazil and Italy, the goal is to continue producing with excellence, combining high expertise, technical capacity, and aesthetic appreciation, in order to maintain the essential value of the unmistakable “Made in Italy” style.

Sessa Marine considers each reached goal a starting point and not an arrival ones, with a view to do always better.

The Italy Charter Season:

Like most of the Mediterranean, the Italy season generally runs from April to the end of October. The summer season for Italy is in July and August. This is also the high season as far as yacht charter goes. Other good times to rent your yacht are generally on either of the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October), each side of the main summer season, as the temperatures are still comfortable, and the onshore tourists have yet to arrive in their largest numbers. Italy Yacht Charter Enquiry

Amanda, Jaco is a beautiful boat. Captain and crew is wonderful. The details of our trip were very similar to the itinerary you outlined with some minor modifications along the way. Our first night was in Ischia. We had dinner on the boat. We left early the next morning after breakfast for Capri. Capri was wonderful and tremendously fun. We hiked the Phoenician Stairs to Anacapri, hiked Mt. Solar, Villa Jovis and enjoyed the shipping now etc. dinner at Auroa one night. We spent two nights there. Upon departure, we had lunch at the lunch spot en route to Positano that you recommended. We spent one night in Positano and had dinner at a great hotel that MK can forward. We spent the night in Amalfi and had dinner on the boat. Next day we embarked for Sorrento. We spent two nights in Sorrento. Had dinner at Don Alfonso which is a truly special place. On our last Saturday we hit Pompeii, and mt. Vesuvius. Great day. We had the boat meet us back in Naples. Italy’s charter season runs between April and October. Peak season is in July and August, when the mercury’s at its peak and rainfall and wind levels are at their lowest. Savvy charterers looking to save some money should consider chartering a yacht in Italy during shoulder season, which is generally between April and May, and September and October. While these months aren’t as lively as peak season, you can still enjoy warm weather, fewer tourists, and less competition for slips.

Italy is one of the yachting capitals of the world, and certain regions are extremely busy during peak season.

You should start the booking process as early as possible, particularly if you’re looking to spend some nights in port. Marinas such as Marina Grande in Capri and Marina di Portofino are among the most in-demand in the Mediterranean, so be sure to let your broker know if you’d like to book a berth in either of these.

As with all popular travel destinations, Italy can be congested and touristy in the height of summer. Cultural sites and landmarks will always be popular attractions, but you can avoid the crowds by dining at exclusive restaurants and beach clubs, which you can find in our Points of Interest section.

In most European countries, VAT is charged on yacht charters. The percentage varies from country to country. Italy charges 22% on the cost of the charter, however, there are some instances where this can be reduced depending on time spent chartering in international (or non-EU) waters. Talk to your charter broker for more information. 

If you’re looking to explore one or two areas of Italy, we recommend a 7-day itinerary. However if you’re looking to explore multiple regions of Italy, you should plan a longer itinerary. Luckily, there’s plenty of room for flexibility and longer and shorter itineraries can be arranged according to the needs of your charter party.

For a mid-sized motor yacht during peak season, you can expect to pay anywhere between $90,000 to $300,000 per week plus expenses during peak season.

Bayesian superyacht which sank off Italy is an "unsinkable" vessel, Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, said.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.

Why this Italian bootmaker came to small-town Kansas to continue his craft

In a small workshop behind his Eureka, Kansas, home, a master shoemaker from Italy is quietly pursuing his craft. "I think you really have to like the culture to really understand how to make a proper cowboy boot," cobbler Sam Vasta says.

EUREKA, Kansas – Of all the businesses you might expect to see in tiny Eureka, Kansas — population 2,332 — a master shoemaker from Italy making custom boots is likely not one of them.

Yet, this is where you’ll find Sam Vasta — “rhymes with pasta,” he says — quietly pursuing his craft in a small workshop behind his home.

His journey here has included stops in four countries plus a stint in a refugee camp after an earthquake in 2009 destroyed his home and business in Italy.

Before coming to Kansas, he was in Vermont, which he found too expensive and too far from the work he wanted to pursue.

“One thing that I wanted to get into was … making cowboy boots, and so I knew that the area had to be … Midwest to West,” said Vasta, who lives in Eureka with his wife, Aga, and teenage daughters Nina and Abby.

“So, I knew that there was an area that we wanted to be in, and then we started just looking online for potential houses. And that's kind of a how it happened.”

Here’s a summary of Vasta’s journey to Kansas: He was born in Italy in 1968 and moved to Rochester, New York, when he was 11.

He met his wife while getting a history degree at SUNY-Brockport. They moved to her native Poland in 2001 and back to Italy a year later to start his apprenticeship as a shoemaker.

In 2005, they moved to Ireland but returned to Italy in 2006 to finish his apprenticeship.

An earthquake in 2009 in the Abruzzo region of Italy killed more than 300 people. It also damaged or destroyed thousands of buildings, including Vasta’s home and workshop.

“It was really apocalyptic,” he said. “You had first responders from all over Europe, army vehicles. It was just a scene from a movie, it seems.”

Speaking of movies, Aga met actors George Clooney and Bill Murray, who toured the refugee camp the Vastas were staying in. She even got Clooney to autograph her CD from his movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

Then it was back to Rochester in 2011 and Vermont in 2018 before finding Eureka on the internet.

“Pure coincidence, pure, you know, destiny, I guess,” Vasta said.

While landing in Eureka in 2021 was happenstance, Vasta’s love of the American West is not. He said he grew up reading the Italian comic book series “Tex,” which follows the adventures of Texas Ranger Tex Willer .

“ So the whole thing, the Westerns made in Italy, the whole culture of the cowboy. My father even wanted to, before we came to the States, he was dreaming of a ranch,” Vasta said. “So that's how much we were .. Italian cowboys, in a sense.”

And Vasta said learning and appreciating the culture of an area and its people is important to his work.

“I think you really have to like the culture to really understand how to make a proper cowboy boot because (of) … the flare that a lot of the Western gear had … back then.

“They really expressed this through their boots, especially because there's the whole culture of dying with your boots on. So, it's something you have to sort of empathize in some way with the culture, I think.”

Vasta said he always loved shoes and footwear, and he also likes working with his hands, as his father did. His father was a butcher, but Vasta said he considered himself an artist, using his knives to expertly carve cuts of meat.

Vasta said making custom shoes or boots is also an artistic statement, both for the customer and for him.

“Shoes are an individualistic expression,” he said. “I think that's probably the prime motivator for people to spend that kind of money … that you need to spend on a custom pair of shoes. They want them to reflect some part of them.

“So, I take input from them during the first consultation as to what they would like in terms of leather, in terms of design, and I sort of synthesize those, and I put a little bit of myself into them. So, just like any other … artistic object, it comes out to be a creative expression of the maker.”

The day we met, a window air-conditioning unit was humming loudly as it worked to combat the Kansas heat. The wonderful scent of leather filled the workshop.

Vasta was wearing a pair of luminous burgundy wholecut shoes that he made. They’re called wholecut, he said, because the upper of each shoe is made from a single piece of leather.

Like all of the shoes and boots he creates, they were stamped on the bottom “fatto a mano” — made by hand.

When he first arrived in Eureka, Vasta spent his time fixing up his house and his workshop. He helps pay the bills by doing leather repair work and by making the hour-long trip to Wichita five days a week to work as an Uber driver.

“It offers that flexibility that allows me to also fix the house, fix the garage, and get the business going,” he said of his Uber gig.

He said his challenge now is finding customers willing to pay north of $1,000 for a pair of handmade cowboy boots. Vasta said it takes 56 different steps and more than two weeks to make a pair of boots.

“It's a niche business, and so you struggle to get the clientele that buys the sort of product that's custom-made,” Vasta said. “So, you're constantly in search of these clients.

“And part of the trick to the business is to be able to network, attend gatherings, parties … of people who could be part of your clientele. And so there's always that balancing act between production and networking. So, if you're out networking, you're not producing, and if you're producing, you're not networking.

“So, it’s a little bit of a catch-22.”

Vasta said he’s had some people inquire about getting boots made. And he hopes to launch a website soon that shows off his work, which also includes women’s shoes with matching handbags.

In the meantime, he said he’ll continue to pursue a passion that has taken him around the world.

“There's something marvelous about the whole process where you see something come to life, so to speak, that was in your head initially,” he said. “And then … to see the satisfaction and the happiness in the eyes of the clients, of course, when they receive something that reflects them, and they feel that it speaks of them when they wear them.

“I really love it.”

A former captain of the Bayesian has described the terrifying obstacles facing those trapped in the cabins as the Bayesian superyacht overturned killing seven.

Stephen Edwards, who captained the Bayesian for five years until 2020, told The Telegraph : “Those who stayed curled up in bed were in the worst situation.

“The storm hit hard, placing them in the melee of flying furniture, glass and other items,” he said adding he had spoken to traumatised crew members.

“Inside the cabins, the only way to think of this is that people were lying in their beds one minute, and the next the room was on its side, totally dark, with the door now either in the floor or in the ceiling above.”

It came as divers race to retrieve Mike Lynch’s personal hard drives locked in a safe on the ocean floor, according to reports.

Italian newspaper la Repubblica reported that the tech billionaire, whose clients included MI5, the NSA and the Israeli secret service, didn’t trust confidential documents on the cloud and kept two encrypted hard drives in a safe which now lies 49 metres below sea level.

Work to recover the superyacht begins with 200m red zone established off Porticello

TMC Marine, a company specialising in “planning and executing high-risk maritime operations and investigating and resolving serious maritime incidents and disputes” have arrived in Porticello.

The delicate operation could cost as much as £15 million to raise the Bayesian superyacht will require barges with cranes as the locals complain about the impact.

“When will the recovery be carried out?” one fisherman asked workers according to La Repubblica.

“For us,” added another, “it is better that these operations end as soon as possible.”

He pointed towards a 200m radius which is still forbidden to sail on and is constantly monitored by the coast guard.

“The community is preparing for the feast of the Madonna del Lume,” added a nearby bar worker referencing an upcoming October holiday.

“That day the painting of the Madonna, symbol of the village, will be carried out of the church, passing through the hands of the faithful, and then hundreds of boats will pour into the sea.”

The deadly waterspouts thought to have caused Sicily boat tragedy

In Italy waterspouts can involve winds of up to 200 kilometres (124 miles) per hour, while downbursts can produce gusts of around 150 km per hour.

Statistics show that downbursts are becoming more frequent around the country, which Mercalli said may be connected to global warming.

Storms and heavy rainfall have swept down Italy in recent days after weeks of scorching heat.

“The sea surface temperature around Sicily was around 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), which is almost 3 degrees more than normal. This creates an enormous source of energy that contributes to these storms,” Italian climatologist Luca Mercall said.

“So we can’t say that this is all due to climate change, but we can say that it has an amplifying effect.”

A similar freak storm killed four people, when their tourist boat sank on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy in May last year.

The country’s varied geology makes it prone to floods and landslides, while the fact it is flanked by rapidly warming seas means it is vulnerable to increasingly powerful storms.

The bodies of those who died after the billionaire Mike Lynch’s Bayesian superyacht sunk off the coast of Sicily have been flown back to their families by private jet.

Italian publication Giornale di Sicilia reported post-mortem examinations were completed at a Palermo hospital and the bodies have now been returned.

Four victims found with carbon dioxide in lungs

Tech billionaire Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah, 18, and five other people died when the Bayesian went down in a downburst, which is similar to a small tornado.

Chef Recaldo Thomas, Jonathan Bloomer, the Morgan Stanley International bank chairman, his wife Judy, and Chris Morvillo, a Clifford Chance lawyer, and his wife Neda, were the other victims of the August 19 tragedy.

Four of the victims are feared to have suffocated to death in air bubbles that filled with carbon dioxide, according to their autopsies raising the frightening possibility that they may have been conscious after the yacht sank, according to Italian news outlet La Republica.

Fifteen people, including Angela Bacares, Lynch’s wife, survived when they were rescued by a nearby yacht.

Former captain says surviving crewmembers all have PTSD from sinking

The former captain of the Bayesian superyacht says he has spoken to all of the surviving crew to hear their account of the sinking.

Stephen Edwards said all the crew members who were on deck rescued as many passengers as they could but that heading down towards the flooded lower parts of the yacht “would have meant certain death”.

“The dominant feeling is still one of shock from the event. They are dealing with what happened, how it happened and how quickly it happened.”

Bayesian yacht sinking: Banking boss among four victims who ‘suffocated in cabin air bubble’

Four of the victims of last month’s Bayesian yacht disaster died after oxygen ran out in an air bubble on the sunken vessel, it has been reported.

Autopsies over the past few days on four of those who died have revealed an absence of water in their lungs, suggesting they suffocated as the air became saturated with carbon dioxide, Italian publication La Repubblica said.

The outlet reported post-mortems showed four people died from “atypical drowning”, with “no water in their lungs, trachea and stomach”. There were no signs of external injuries.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is making the “difficult decision” to pursue Mike Lynch’s estate for £4billion in the interests of shareholders despite the tech billionaire being killed along with his daughter on the Bayesian superyacht.

Antonio Neri, the former engineer turned chief executive at HPE, told the Financial Times : “Obviously my job as a representative of shareholders is to make the difficult decisions.

“These are difficult decisions. But in the end, we are making decisions in the best interest of shareholders.”

Mike Lynch had been celebrating his acquittal from criminal charges on the superyacht when it overturned in a freak storm.

But HPE intends to pursue damages around an earlier UK civil trial in 2022 which found in favor of HPE’s claim that Lynch and ex-CFO Sushovan Hussain had inflated the apparent value of Autonomy during the acquisition.

Three crew members including the yacht’s captain are under investigation, with plans being discussed to raise the yacht from the ocean bed to assist enquiries.

Sources close to New Zealander James Cutfield, 51, the captain , told the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera that he is living through the darkest days of his life.

Among those killed were Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, who had been due to begin studying at Oxford University in September, the yacht’s chef and four other family friends and associates.

Mike Lynch’s co-defendant died from head injury after being hit by car days before yacht sinking

Mike Lynch ’s co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain died in hospital three days after being hit by a car on a country road, an inquest heard.

The 52-year-old, from Longstanton in south Cambridgeshire, was struck by a blue Vauxhall Corsa travelling between Stretham and Wicken on the A1123 at about 10.10am on 17 August.

Mr Chamberlain, a former vice president of finance at Mike Lynch’s software firm Autonomy, had been out running at the time, his lawyer Gary Lincenberg said.

Coroner Caroline Jones told the inquest in Alconbury that his medical cause of death was recorded as “traumatic head injury”.

Stuffed Zucchini Boats

If you have an excess of zucchini and want to prepare them in a delicious way, try these stuffed zucchini boats! Zucchini are scooped out and filled with a delicious Italian pork and fennel sausage and cheese. These are a delicious way to serve up this versatile vegetable for dinner and you can use this method to stuff all sizes of zucchini from small to huge!

Confession: I LOVE stuffed and roasted vegetables. They're such an easy way to serve up veggies in an appetising way and zucchini are particularly good for it as they are a milder tasting vegetable that can take on other flavours well. This was inspired by Yemista or Greek stuffed vegetables.

Tips for Making Stuffed Zucchini Boats

1 - I have a really handy little zucchini corer that makes fast work of coring the zucchini. You can find these at Middle Eastern stores.

2 - If you don't have pork and fennel sausage, you can sub with your other favourite sausage or you can also use mince like chicken, turkey or beef mince. You may just add a bit more seasoning as sausages have seasoning added to them.

3 - I actually recommend doubling the quantity and doing this in two trays. The leftovers are really delicious the next day and they reheat very well.

4 - Some recipes call for you to scoop out the seeds in the centre and discard them. We use them in the stuffing, especially with smaller zucchinis where the seeds are tiny and cook down well in the filling mixture.

5 - I cover these with foil for the first part of the cooking so that they don't dry out.

6 - Only add the cheese in in the last 10 minutes once you have uncovered the zucchini otherwise the cheese will brown and dry out.

Although zucchini aren't really my favourite vegetable and I wouldn't ever really buy them I get them in my vegetable box and every fortnight it's a mad scramble to use everything up. There are some vegetables that I love like salad leaves, tomatoes, broccolini and snow peas and there are some that I just want to use up. I don't think I've ever really thrown anything out because it has gone off because the vege box isn't cheap and I don't like to waste money or food.

I came across this phrase recently that I have started using. It's when someone is cheap they have "short arms". Like their hands can't reach to their pockets to pay for anything. Most of my friends don't have short arms. My friends and I are always giving each other things and we would honestly give the shirts off our own backs.

My friend Agatha (not her real name, she wants to stay anonymous on this in case her friend read this!) has a friend called April. Agatha is always doing things for April and April is not shy to ask for things.

"Could you pick me up?" April will ask even though she lives in the opposite direction and has a car. Agatha always drives them and when it comes to parking Agatha always ends up paying (and parking in Sydney isn't cheap). April stands there with her hands in her pockets or dawdling when getting out of the car. And when it comes to paying for dinner April often forgets to pay Agatha for her portion of the bill and she has to hassle her to get the money. She is fond of April and she does of course have a good, fun side but her attitude towards money is annoying for Agatha.

Every time I see Agatha she tells me about another instance where April has cheaped out. "She has short arms!" I told Agatha. She laughed and pointed out that April's arm length was standard but I explained the saying of short arms to her. And from now on, we both use that phrase to describe someone that juuuust can't reach their pockets to pay for their share!

An Original Recipe by Lorraine Elliott

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 50 minutes

Serves: 2-4 people with a side dish

• 4x 170g/6oz zucchinis or courgettes
• 2 teaspoons oil
• 1 white or brown onion, peeled and diced
• 200g/7ozs pork and fennel sausage, cases removed, chopped
• 2 cloves garlic, peeled and diced
• 2 cups/500ml/1pint marinara or red pasta sauce, divided
• 2 teaspoons Italian herb mix
• 3 tablespoons water
• 50g/1.7ozs parmesan cheese, finely grated
• 150g/5ozs mozzarella, grated

Step 1 - Cut the zucchinis in half lengthways and trim the tops off. Scoop out the centre with a teaspoon or a zucchini corer - you want to dig out enough to fit in a lot of the flavoursome filling but don't go all the way to the edge, leave a border (as shown). Fit them snugly into a baking dish. Finely chop up the zucchini centres.

Step 2 - Add oil to a saucepan and sauté the onion on medium heat for 3-4 minutes or until soft and fragrant. Add the sausage meat and brown until almost completely cooked making sure to break it up with a wooden spoon. Add the garlic and saute for 1 minute. Then add 1.5 cups pasta sauce, chopped zucchini centres and Italian herb mix and sauté for 10 minutes. Take off the heat. Spoon this mixture into the zucchini and then spoon the extra pasta sauce on top of this. Add 3 tablespoons of water to the dish and cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and sprinkle the parmesan cheese and then the mozzarella on top and bake for another 10 minutes or until melted and starting to brown.
