Conceived in 1947, by Drake H. Sparkman, head of the New York designing firm of Sparkman and Stephens, as a “baby Lightning” one-design, sloop-rigged sailboat. Used in Novice, Teen, and Men’s and Women’s sailing events, and originally constructed in wood, and since the early 1960s in both wood and fiberglass. Total number of boats constructed over 7,200 worldwide. The Blue Jay is currently being phased out at a few yacht clubs and being replaced by the Pixel.

I own a plywood Blue Jay, serial number 3348. Does anyone have any idea of when it might have been made? I know fiberglass Blue Jays were introduced in the 1960’s, but I believe they continued to make them out of wood as well. I’m just curious to know how old my boat is if anyone out there has any leads!

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The Blue Moscow Guppy ( Poecilia reticulata var. “Blue Moscow”) is one of the most striking and popular guppy varieties. This beautiful guppy displays bright blue coloration with elegant, long tails in males and is sure to be a standout in any aquarium! We are pleased to now offer male/female pairs of this fish so that you can start your own little colony if you wish. Females of this variety are extremely rare and can often command a hefty price.
Guppies typically occupy the top level of the water column, although they can often be seen swimming and feeding in the middle and bottom levels as well. They are also not afraid to jump, so they must be kept in an aquarium with either a lid/hood/canopy or at least a significantly lowered water level. They will not eat or bother plants. They are safe with other peaceful fish as long as the other fish are not known to nip at the long tail of the guppy. Adult dwarf shrimp are generally safe as well, but guppies may eat shrimp fry. Larger, peaceful invertebrates can also make good tankmates. Guppies are best kept in groups.
While not a picky eater, the Blue Moscow Guppy will thrive and remain very colorful on a varied diet of meaty foods. High-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen or freeze-dried tubifex and bloodworms will all be readily accepted.
