Kavas Yachting owns five cranes for lifting/launching yachts, as well as two travel lifts 70t & 150t and a unique hydraulic remotely-controlled self-moving trailer that can haul and place in position yachts of up to 85 tonnes each.

So, we couldn't be more serious when we say we are the experts for Yachting in Greece. We know all about boats. Needless to say, there is also a small fleet of trucks and trailers to support our numerous crane & shipyard activities.

Euro Series

The EURO davit system is primarily constructed from aluminum alloy making the system light-weight and resistant to corrosion. With a larger variety of Safe Working Loads (SWL) and boom lengths/options, these davits are the work-horse of the product line; ideal for wet locations with demanding duties. MCA-LY2 Class Compliance (vessels under 500-gt) is available with most systems.

Nautical Structures’ most recent crane design, the NS-Series crane, represents the latest state-of-the-art technology with regards to hydraulic motion and control. The key innovations for this series are the fact that the NS-Series crane provides a 2:1 strength-to-weight ratio, and is available in extensive configurations. The NS Series allows for greater reach and lifting power that stows in a small package, making this unit perfect for large sportfish yachts as well as motoryachts.

Deck Cranes

Cramm deck cranes are the ideal cranes to hoist your equipment such as tenders, jet skis and submarines to and from your super yacht. Our cranes offer maximum efficiency in that they can be used for cargo handling applications as well as rescue boat and life raft hoisting. All our yacht equipment products are designed to perfection to match the yacht design, in or out of sight.

Depending on your requirements and ideas, Cramm can supply a crane to match every need. For example, Cramm has engineered a fully custom-made deck crane with a hoisting capacity of SWL 15 tonnes and a teak gangway on top to show one of our customers our possibilities. To lower your equipment into the water or lift it on to the quay, our modular range of deck cranes have a reach from 3 metres up to 10 metres and can hoist up to 6.5 tonnes of cargo or 3.25 tonnes of MOB/rescue equipment. When a longer or heavy-duty deck crane is required, Cramm offers customised solutions to create any required fixed boom, telescopic or knuckle boom crane configuration.

If required, all deck cranes can be rotated 355 degrees to give maximum flexibility. Cramm offers two types of deck cranes: non-telescopic and single telescopic . The single telescopic crane offers a higher reach while requiring less deck space.

Wide Range of Options

The deck crane can be configured with a latch hook for cargo or a quick release hook for rescue operations. Special fibre rope is supplied as standard as the hoisting cable, as this offers more comfort and easy handling. However, this can be changed to a galvanised steel cable for extra strength, on request. Other options that can be installed include a jib light for extra safety and a radio remote control for increased flexibility.

Maximum Safety

During the final testing phase, an agent from a certified body witnesses that the crane is secure, safe and delivers the required capacity. All Cramm deck cranes satisfy uncompromised quality and design standards (ISO, LY2, LY3 and SOLAS).

To increase the lifespan of our products and provide the yacht equipment with a quality finish, all products are faired and painted with the highest yacht quality paint available.

All Applications

We make deck cranes for tenders, rescue boats, life rafts handling, MOB boats and for cargo handling applications. Our cranes are remote controlled at two speeds or proportionally. Rescue cranes are always equipped with cable controls, while cargo cranes have the option of radiographic controls.

Rescue cranes can be provided with certification from Lloyds Register of Shipping, Bureau Veritas or others if required. All our cranes are included with a design appraisel document (DAD) to guarantee maximum safety on deck. All deck cranes are also designed in accordance with LAME regulations.

Knuckle boom crane

A knuckle boom crane is the ideal crane for hoisting equipment over the bulwark of the yacht. A knuckle boom crane has an extra hinge in the crane enabling it to hoist equipment higher without the need for a longer deck crane. Furthermore, knuckle boom deck cranes can reach further away from the bulwark compared to a standard boom.

When new equipment such as a tender is being added to the yacht and the current deck crane is unable to lower the tender into the water because the bulwark is blocking the hoist, a knuckle boom crane is the perfect upgrade, providing the required hoisting without the need to make changes to the yacht or bulwark.

Specifications

Cramm offers a wide range of modulair deck cranes, our modulair deck cranes series are: 3000, 5000, 8000, 12000 and 16000 kg/mtr. This means when 1000 kg needs to be lifted over a 5 meter reach a 5000 series crane is needed. When 1200 kg needs to be lifted over a 5.5 meter(6600 kg/mtr), a  8000 series deck crane is needed because the 5000 series crane would not be sufficient. Other moments or special cranes can be custom made.

 We work with electronics from all the major manufacturers. Our staff can provide installation, technical support, training and repairs. We customize the systems to the exact needs of our clients and the type of boating they want to accomplish.

With the help of our on-site crane, we are able to perform out-of-water work to all outboard motors. We can provide yearly services, electronics installations and underwater light installations to name a few. 

Metal Fabrication

We have helped design and pattern many different pieces including anchor rollers, guards and crab pot puller mounts. Our fabricator does terrific work and is capable of creating custom pieces for many applications. Some of the work he’s done for us includes; custom masts, alternator brackets, tender chocks, kayak brackets and outriggers. 

Woodworking & Wood Finishing

Geoff & Steve perform the large woodworking projects on our team. They have years of experience in custom woodwork. The quality of their work is professional and detailed.

Local News | Second crane arrives at capsized LoveBug yacht site, salvage expected to begin this week

The Columbia NY, a 250-foot crane barge with 140-foot boom, and the Thomas D Whitte, a coastal towing tug, arrived on Saturday, according to VesselFinder, a marine traffic site. Recovery efforts are expected to begin as early as Wednesday, according to Steven Newes,  senior vice president of Donjon Marine Co., the New Jersey-based firm contracted to salvage the LoveBug and deliver it to underwriters and its owner.

The tug boat’s arrival comes three weeks after the LoveBug overturned sailing south on the Chesapeake Bay from Annapolis. The yacht currently rests in about 10 to 12 feet of water on its starboard, or right, side between Beverly Beach and Shady Side.

The Farrell 256, a 200-foot crane barge with a 120-foot boom, and the Meagan Ann, a coastal towing tug, were the first vessels to arrive last week. The Farrell 256 will be used to rig the LoveBug with slings, Newes said last week. The Columbia NY will then roll and lift it to an upright position. Water inside the yacht will need to be pumped out.

The Italian-built yacht, which could be chartered at a weekly rate ranging from $110,000 to $125,000 , was not operating as a charter when it overturned, Hunter Dortenzo, spokesperson for the Maryland Natural Resources Police, said earlier this month. Following a mayday call, the Coast Guard found five people safe when they arrived.

Both the Natural Resources Police and the National Transportation Safety Board are conducting separate investigations. When the results will be released is unclear, Dortenzo said. The NTSB’s investigation is underway, according to Keith Holloway, a spokesperson for the board.

In the days after the LoveBug capsized, a slight oil sheen was visible on the water around the vessel. Two oil booms were placed around the yacht. No additional pollution has been reported, Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Bokum said on Aug. 9.

Product introduction

Yacht Handling Crane is usually used to transporting boats or yachts into or out of shore side water channel to maintain or launch, cranes composed by hoisting mechanism, steering mechanism, wheelsets, electrical control system and hydraulic transmission system. It adopts structure form is open box shape and able to transport boats that are higher than the crane itself.

The Yacht Handling Crane includes the following items: main structure, traveling wheel block, hoisting mechanism, steering mechanism, hydraulic transmission system, electric control system, the main structure for the “U” type, it can transfer the boat which the height surpass its height.

According to different requirements, the Yacht Handling Crane can handle different tons boat or yacht (10T-800T) from the short side, it can be used for the maintenance on the shore side or can put the new boat inside the water. It adopts the soft and firm belt to lift the boat, yacht; it will never hurt the surface.

Who are Mike Lynch and the other people missing after a yacht sank in Sicily?

Search teams are scouring waters along Italy’s southwestern shore, where a luxury sailing yacht sank early Monday. Six people are known to be missing, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter, and Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife.

Faced with the possibility that some people might have been trapped inside the ship when it sank in a storm, dive teams (including cave divers from the local fire brigade) have been looking for ways to enter the vessel.

Divers recover at least 1 body during search of yacht wreckage off Sicily

The Palermo Coast Guard told NPR on Tuesday that such an operation is complicated by the depth and position of the hull, which lies on the seabed at a depth of around 50 meters, about a half-mile from the port in Porticello, Sicily.

Lynch, a mathematician and longtime tech entrepreneur, was on a vacation voyage that apparently doubled as a celebration of his recent acquittal on federal fraud charges in the U.S. At least two members of his legal team were reportedly on the boat.

Here’s what we know about Lynch and the tragic situation off Sicily’s coast:

Who is Mike Lynch?

Lynch, 59, made his name as the founder and longtime leader of Autonomy, a search engine and software company that helped companies manage information. Hewlett-Packard bought Autonomy for $11 billion in 2011, but Lynch then faced accusations — and then federal charges — that he had misrepresented his company’s financial health and prospects. Lynch denied the claims, saying HP was blaming him for its own problems.

Lynch was indicted on multiple fraud and conspiracy counts in late 2018, months after Autonomy’s former chief financial officer, Sushovan Hussain, was convicted of fraud (he was later sentenced to five years in prison).

Lynch successfully delayed extradition from the U.K. until May 2023 . Earlier this year, the case finally culminated in a lengthy trial in San Francisco that ended with Lynch’s acquittal of all charges against him in June , after he testified on his own behalf.

Also acquitted was Stephen Chamberlain, Autonomy’s former finance VP. But on Saturday — just two days before Lynch was caught in a boating catastrophe — Chamberlain was killed in a car accident , after he was struck while out for a run.

Lynch earned a Ph.D. in adaptive pattern recognition from Cambridge University. In 2006, he was awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) honor for his work in the U.K.’s tech industry. After selling Autonomy, he founded an investment group focused on startups emerging from Cambridge University.

Who else was aboard?

Survivors include Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, along with Charlotte Golunski, who works at Invoke Capital, Lynch’s venture capital firm. Golunski was on the ship with her daughter, Sofia, who had just celebrated her first birthday. In an interview with La Repubblica , Golunski said she held her little girl as she floated in darkness, using all her strength to keep her arms up and prevent Sofia from drowning. Sophia’s father was also onboard and survived.

Ayla Ronald, a lawyer who worked on Lynch’s fraud case, and her partner also escaped the wreck. Other survivors include several crew members, including two women in their early 20s who were part of the ship’s staff.

Missing along with Lynch and Bloomer are Lynch’s daughter, Hannah, 18; Bloomer’s wife, Judy; a lawyer for Lynch named Chris Morvillo; and his wife, Neda, according to local newspaper Giornale di Sicilia .

Bloomer was a partner at Arthur Andersen for some 20 years, until 1994, according to his LinkedIn profile . He then led the financial services company Prudential before taking on a number of chairman roles, including at the legal services firm DWF.

Bloomer is also currently chairman of insurance company the Hiscox Group.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event,” Hiscox CEO Aki Hussain said in a statement sent to NPR. “Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our Chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing, and with their family as they await further news from this terrible situation.”

What happened to the yacht?

The gathering took place aboard a massive sailing yacht called Bayesian — a term that, in mathematics and statistics, refers to probability and uncertainty. The yacht’s overall length is listed at 55.9 meters (183 feet).

The Bayesian was off the coast of Porticello when it was swamped by a violent storm before dawn on Monday morning. Numerous eyewitness accounts cited a waterspout — a highly localized spiraling storm that’s essentially a marine tornado. Around that time, the Bayesian was located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, according to the Marine Traffic tracking site.

The ship, which had 22 people aboard, sank. In the aftermath, 15 people were rescued, but one died and six were unaccounted for.  

What about the rescue effort?

Helicopters and marine craft have been searching for any sign of the passengers, hoping to find more survivors. Sea and cave divers have also been part of the effort.

Italy’s fire brigade, Vigili del Fuoco, says it is working on a plan for divers to enter the sunken vessel. An initial attempt on Monday was cut short after divers were able to gain only limited access , citing furniture that blocked a passageway.

When asked about the possibility of finding any other survivors of the calamity, Comandante Vincenzo Zagarola of the Italian Coast Guard told radio station RTL 102.5 on Tuesday that given how much time has elapsed, it’s difficult to imagine a good outcome for the missing passengers. But, he said, the search will continue.

British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, his lawyer and four other people are missing after a superyacht carrying 22 people sank off the coast of Sicily, authorities say. 

Fifteen people, including Mr Lynch's wife, have been rescued after the boat was hit by a violent storm at sunrise, according to the Italian Coast Guard. 

What's next?

Divers had located the wreck 50 metres underwater and search operations are continuing.

Mr Lynch's wife and 14 other people were rescued, including a one-year-old girl, and one person has died.

A person familiar with the rescue operation confirmed to Reuters that Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah has not been accounted for.

The British-flagged, 56-metre Bayesian had a crew of 10 people and 12 passengers, representing British, American and Canadian nationalities, the Italian Coast Guard said.

Managers of the sailing yacht Bayesian, Camper & Nicholsons, confirmed to the ABC that the Bayesian encountered severe weather and subsequently sank near the Sicilian capital Palermo, Italy, at 4:30am Monday, local time. 

"Our priority is assisting with the ongoing search and providing all necessary support to the rescued passengers and crew," they said. 

Fifteen people were rescued and taken to shore at Porticello, where eight were receiving treatment in hospital and remain in a stable condition, the Italian Coast Guard said.

One body has been recovered and police divers were trying to reach the hull of the ship, which was resting at a depth of 50 meters where it had been anchored.

British Bill Gates missing

Mr Lynch is often dubbed by UK media as "the British Bill Gates" and the BBC confirmed the luxury yacht was tied to his wife, Angela Bacares.

According to maritime data service Equasis, the owner of the the Bayesian is listed as Revtom Ltd, the BBC reported.

Additionally, the yacht's name would resonate with Mr Lynch because his PhD thesis and the software that made his fortune was based on Bayesian theory.

Mr Lynch was acquitted in June by a jury in San Francisco of fraud charges linked to the sale of his software company, Autonomy, to Hewlett-Packard for $US11 billion ($16.4 billion) in 2011.

He said at the time that he was "elated" to be cleared in the criminal trial in which he denied any wrongdoing, and blamed HP for botching the integration of the two companies.

In a separate incident, Mr Lynch's co-defendant in the trial, Stephen Chamberlain, died on Monday after a road accident left him critically injured.

Mr Chamberlain — Autonomy's former vice-president of finance alongside Mr Lynch — had been placed on life support after being hit by a car in Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning.

Rescued baby held above waves 

The coast guard said that rescue efforts had located the wreck at a depth of 50 metres underwater. 

The Italian fire and rescue service agency said search operations at sea were continuing with the coordination of the Italian Coast Guard, in a translated post on the social media platform X. 

One of the survivors, identified only as Charlotte, said she had momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter Sofia in the water, but then managed to hold her up over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were both pulled to safety, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

A spokesperson for the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said they were providing support to British nationals.

"We are providing consular support to a number of British nationals and their families following an incident in Sicily, and are in contact with the local authorities"

Captain of nearby boat helped rescue passengers

The captain of a nearby boat that helped to rescue passengers from the Bayesian said that when the storm hit he turned his engine on to keep control of the vessel and avoid a collision with the Bayesian.

"We managed to keep the ship in position and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone," Karsten Borner told Reuters.

He said that his crew then found 15 survivors on a life raft, including three who were seriously injured and took them on board before the coast guard picked them up.

"There were 15 people inside," he said.

"Then we communicated with the Coast Guard and after some time, the Coast Guard came and later picked up injured people, and 2 hours later they picked up the other people."

Mr Borner said "a little baby and the wife of the owner" were among the survivors, while the owner of the sunken ship and another child were among those missing.

He described the conditions as "very strong" and said that his vessel was "heeling" but the Bayesian "went flat on the water and then down".

"There was a light and we saw that the ship was aside and then we saw a triangle," he said.

"So I think she went back down."

Storms and heavy rainfall swept Italy in recent days

Prosecutors in the nearby town of Termini Imerese have opened an investigation to look into what had gone wrong.

"The wind was very strong," a coast guard official in Palermo told Reuters.

"Bad weather was expected, but not of this magnitude."

After weeks of scorching heat, storms and heavy rainfall have swept down Italy in recent days — with floods and landslides causing major damage in the north of the country. 

Local media said a fierce storm, including water spouts, had battered the area overnight but skies were clear and seas calm by Monday morning.

The ANSA news agency said the yacht, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, had been moored off the port at Porticello.

The yacht had won a string of awards for its design and can accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites and a crew of 10, according to online specialist yacht sites.

The Bayesian was known for its single 75-meter mast, one of the world’s tallest made of aluminium and which was lit up at night, just hours before it sank.

-The design of the yacht

Bayesian has a mast measuring 72 metres, making it one of the largest in the world among sailing yachts.

Sam Jefferson, editor of the magazine Sailing Today, told the PA news agency the mast “acted almost like a sail” when severe weather hit the vessel, causing it to be “pinned over on its side”.

– Were windows and doors left open?

Mr Jefferson said he suspects “all the doors were open because it was hot”, causing the yacht to fill with water “very quickly”.

Weather records show temperatures reached around 33C the day before the sinking, which may have led to the vessel’s occupants keeping access points open overnight.

– Obtaining video footage of the sinking

The Italian coast guard has reportedly visited homes and organisations in the local area to obtain footage of the sinking from surveillance cameras.

One clip available online shows the boat being battered by severe weather before disappearing into the water.

– Interviewing survivors

Interviews with the 15 surviving crew members and passengers will be crucial to finding out what happened.

The ship’s captain, James Cutfield, has reportedly already been questioned by police for more than two hours.

– Was the keel a factor?

Italian media reported that divers found the Bayesian’s keel – a flat blade on the bottom of yachts that sticks down into the water to boost stability – was partially retracted.

Some yacht safety experts believe that may have contributed to the sinking.

But the Telegraph reported that a spokesperson for Italian Sea Group, which owns the company that built Bayesian, said: “Even without the keel completely out, the ship is stable and only a massive entry of water could have caused the sinking.”

– Will the yacht be salvaged?

Nick Barke, head of salvage operations at Boats.co.uk, a boat sales and services company, told PA that the “only real way of knowing” why the yacht sank will be to lift it to the surface, but that would be “expensive and complicated process”, likely to involve a crane barge.

He said divers would attach straps to the boat before it is lifted upright and then hauled out of the water.

He predicted this would be “time-consuming” as “they have to do it in such a way that they don’t damage anything too badly.”

– What is the UK’s role?

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) – a branch of the Department for Transport – has sent a team of investigators to the scene of the sinking, as Bayesian was British-flagged.

It will produce a report into why the sinking happened and may provide recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

The MAUB does not apportion blame.

About JTA Yacht Delivery & Consulting

Our History

Founded in 2019, JTA Yacht Delivery & Consulting has grown into the leader in Yacht Delivery and Transportation into and out of the Great Lakes and beyond.  We concentrate in "on water" transport for Yachts of all sizes as well as coordinate with shipping Yachts to and from the Great Lakes and Worldwide via cargo ships.  JTA Specializes in operating all types of propulsion from Surface Drives, Waterjets, Pods and traditional Propellers.  Our experience lies throughout the Great Lakes and Canals, Eastern Seaboard, Bahamas / Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, Austrailia and Central / South America.  

Meet the Founder / Owner.

Jordan Tilton obtained his Captains License in April 2003 while working on a high speed ferry in Lake Erie and attending college.  Upon graduation, immediately moved to Charleston, SC and began working onboard Yachts and continues working alongside some of the largest Yacht builders in the world.  He's held a variety of application engineering positions with engine and propulsion OEM's and is well versed in the mechanics and inner workings of Yachts. He has been able to operate yachts in Europe, Middle East, Austrailia, Central /South America and all over the United States.   Today,  JTA Yacht Delivery works directly with manufacturers, brokers, insurance companies and private families and he is also a licensed broker with Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales.  

General Manager Drew Smercina

JTA Yacht Delivery has a complement of Captains on staff, as well as our General Manager Drew Smercina.  Drew joined the JTA Team in August 2020 and has steadily built himself into being able to manage day to day operations / logistics and can operate a variety of yachts of all sizes and specializes in Waterjets and Surface Drives.

At JTA Yacht Delivery & Consulting we believe in being fully familiar with the machinery systems that are installed into your Yacht.  Our average delivery covers over 1,000 nautical miles, and we like to be able to work our way through issues if any arise to keep moving and stay on schedule.  We have attended training sessions by MTU, CAT, MAN and Volvo as well as familiar with all the major Navigation Systems and Propulsion Systems installed into today's Yachts.
