How to Host a Yacht Party

A yacht party is a fantastic change of pace from dinner at a restaurant or a backyard cookout. Yachting isn’t a common thing for a lot of people, so there’s a natural excitement built into the event, even if the boat never leaves the dock. All you have to do as the host is play into that vibe, and you’ve got yourself a successful event.

One of the best things you can do when inviting guests to a yacht party is to inform them in advance about general etiquette aboard a boat. Friends who are landlubbers will not know, for instance, that it’s customary to leave your shoes in a dock box before boarding a boat.

Tell them ahead of time that their feet will be on display so they can get a pedicure, buy a cool pair of socks or invest in a little toe jewelry to feel comfortable throughout the party. They’ll also appreciate the pro tip of wearing shoes that are easy to slide on and off without having to sit down and deal with laces or straps.

And, for yacht parties during the day, encourage your guests to dress for the sun. Have sunscreen on board to use, and offer helpful suggestions like bringing a hat, a light shirt to cover easy-burn spots like shoulders and the back of the neck, and perhaps linen pants or a sarong for legs that don’t see the sun too often. Polarized sunglasses also help stay comfortable throughout the day on board.

Think bigger-picture about how people should dress: if your yacht party is during the day, then your guests might bring a small bag of clothes for later; you’ll need a place on the yacht to put those bags. Your yacht party may extend into the night, which means there could be a big swing in the temperature, so encourage guests to bring clothing that can be layered on and off.

If the party will include the boat leaving the dock, then advise your guests about the golden rule of remaining upright: one hand for you, one hand for the boat. Yes, you can carry a plate of hors d’oeuvres or a cocktail in one hand, but whenever the boat moves, you always want one hand free to grab a rail, a handhold, or anything else you might need to steady yourself. Helping new boaters stay safe underway should be priority one!

In terms of hosting, think about serving a steady array of finger foods instead of a big, sit-down meal. The little stuff is easier to store and cook quickly, and it’s a better option to offer people a variety of foods if the boat is moving since some people may be a bit more sensitive than others.

Skip the things that come on skewers (those little sticks never end up in the trash, and they can poke bare feet if they end up on deck ). Instead, think about crudites, bruschetta bites, and boneless wings that leave no refuse behind.

Also, have soft drinks such as ginger ale and lemon-lime soda on hand to help soothe any bouts of seasickness . Ginger is another well-regarded remedy and can be served as a chewable or in a cup of iced tea.

Sometimes, yacht parties are themed, with everything from steel-drum players to belly dancers aboard for entertainment. Swim parties are, of course, a go-to favorite, as are “Under the Sea” parties with a seafood spread. You can go with a color, or a lack thereof, such as an all-white party, or encourage people to wear Hawaiian shirts for a Polynesian night .

Music is a must. So don’t forget to create a playlist to go with your theme. It’s hard to go wrong with boating standbys such as Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley, and the Beach Boys. More than a few great singalongs have started with “Rock the Boat” by the Hues Corporation or “Banana Boat (Day-O)” by Harry Belafonte.

Yes, that last suggestion is about as polar opposite as you can get from “Under the Sea,” but that’s the beauty of a yacht party. It can be anything you want it to be.

Best of all: you don’t need to own a yacht to throw a party on one. You can rent a yacht for a half-day or full-day and host your party on the rental instead! boot Düsseldorf

Dates:  20 – 28 January

Location:  Messe Düsseldorf, Germany

The biggest indoor boat show in Europe. Boot Düsseldorf has around 16 halls filled with an array of sailing yachts, motor boats, superyachts, dinghies, and water sports crafts. The event encompasses not only surfing, diving, fishing, and traveling but is an excellent venue to witness captivating innovation and craftsmanship.

Miami International Boat Show

Dates:  14 – 18 February

Location: On-land part of the event is at Miami Beach Convention Center and Pride Park. In-water components of the show are at Venetian Marina, Herald Plaza, Museum Park Marina, and Yacht Haven Grande Miami

This event ranks among the world’s largest boat and yacht gatherings. A wide range of watercraft is on display, from outboards to superyachts, as well as the latest advancements in aquatic technology.

Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS)

Dates:  28 February – 3 March

Location:  Dubai Harbour, Dubai

Recognised as the foremost yacht exhibition in the UAE, the Dubai Boat Show presents a selection of stunning superyachts, cutting-edge innovations in the nautical industry, and an array of luxury lifestyle products. Building on the success of the previous year, which drew in 30,000 visitors and featured over 200 showcased boats, the Dubai yacht show boasts premier retail outlets – displaying everything from high-end watches and supercars to exclusive artworks by internationally acclaimed artists.

Palm Beach International Boat Show

Dates: 21 – 24 March

Location:  West Palm Beach, Florida

As one of Florida’s premier boat exhibitions, this show unveils an extensive collection of yachts and yachting accessories, collectively valued at over $1.2 billion. Featuring displays ranging from inflatables to impressive superyachts measuring up to 90m, the Palm Beach boat show offers more than a visual spectacle. Attendees can participate in seminars and classes covering diverse marine topics and savour a culinary journey curated by top gourmet chefs. MYBA Charter Show  

Dates:  22 – 25 April

Location:  Marina Molo Vecchio, Genoa. 

Anticipation is high for the 2024 MYBA Charter Show, a pivotal event in the luxury superyacht industry. Tailored exclusively for trade professionals, this 34th edition brings together leading charter yacht brokers to assess premier yachts available for charter, connect with Captains and crew, and explore a diverse range of ancillary services. Set to unfold from April 22nd to 25th, 2024, this year’s edition marks a unique return to Genoa’s Marina Molo Vecchio, a departure from its recent location at Marina Port Vell in Barcelona. Despite the shift, the show maintains its illustrious legacy, drawing over 500 exhibitors for an unparalleled showcase of luxury yachts and industry events.

Palma International Boat Show (PIBS)

Dates: 25 – 28 April

Location:  Palma Superyacht Village, Palma

The Palma International Boat Show marks the beginning of the Mediterranean yachting season, featuring over three hundred companies showcasing a diverse collection of new yachts under 24m. The event also highlights the latest advancements in water sports, yacht equipment, and nautical services.

Singapore Yachting Festival

Dates:  25 – 28 April

Location:  ONE°15 Marina Sentosa Cove, Singapore

For a while, Singapore has been recognised as a pivotal gateway and hub for Asia’s marine industry. The Singapore Yachting Festival aims to strengthen the dynamic expansion of the yachting sector by offering a platform for premier yacht builders, water-sport toys, and lifestyle brands to exhibit their products to the growing interest of audiences in Singapore and across Asia.

Mediterranean Yacht Show  

Dates:  27 April – 1 May

Location: Nafplion, Greece

Bracing for another thrilling Mediterranean season, the yachting industry converges once more on the picturesque town of Nafplion in Greece. This show is extending a warm invitation to industry professionals and yacht brokers eager to explore the latest offerings in luxury charter yachts.

Hakvoort successfully launch 61m superyacht Project Asia

The Dutch city of Monnickendam witnessed a majestic launch over the weekend as 61m (200ft) Project Asia launched at the esteemed Hakvoort Shipyard , signaling the final outfitting stages before she sets sail to embrace the warmth of sunnier seas in the Mediterranean in the next few months.

Sporting premium levels of luxury and exceptional performance, Project Asia can embark on indulgent voyages of nearly 4,000 nautical miles, making her the perfect choice for long-distance adventures or extended cruises around yacht charter destination favorites like Croatia and the Balearics . Flying the American flag, she was last seen in May 2021 when she made her journey to Royal Hakvoort from the builder's subcontractor for hull and superstructure fabrication.

Also recognized by her build number YN253, motor yacht Project Asia stands as a marvel of modern engineering boasting luxurious accommodations for up to 16 guests, complete with an exclusive owner's suite situated on its own dedicated deck. This private sanctuary features a study, his and hers bathrooms, and sweeping views from the forward-facing windows. Additionally, the yacht hosts an impressive VIP cabin that spans the full width of the main deck, measuring a generous 11.6m (38ft) in width.

Project Asia is the perfect choice for long-distance adventures or extended cruises around yacht charter destination favorites like Croatia and the Balearics.

Under the meticulous guidance of Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, Project Asia has an ambiance that reflects the personal taste and style of her owners. Though the finer details of the interior designs remain under wraps at this time, the superyacht's social-centric spirit is undeniable.

Among its many lavish amenities, the sundeck is the crowning glory with a sparkling pool, ample space for large sunpads, and a convivial bar area. The skylounge looks set to continue the elevated social space seen around the exteriors with its own bar setup. Below deck, tranquility reigns with indulgent spaces such as a massage room and a hammam, all conveniently located near the spacious beach club.
