sailboat charter greece

Are you planning to visit Mykonos and Santorini and thinking what the best and most fun way is? A sailing holiday/ yacht charter would offer the opportunity to visit not only these 2 most well known Greek islands but also a multitude of other incredible places and a few beaten path destinations that are still mostly untouched by tourism.

And you will probably end up liking these even more than the two cosmopolitan ones that were on your bucket list. While traveling from Mykonos to Santorini (or from Santorini to Mykonos according to what direction you follow) you will be passing close to some magical places:

Naxos, Schoinoussa, Tinos and Folegandros (together with many other like Serifos, Sifnos, Kimolos, Milos) are just a few examples of typical Greek islands you might want to add to your itinerary to have an authentic experience enjoying their fantastic sandy beaches and whitewashed villages without the hustle and bustle and all the tourist crowds at more known places like Mykonos and Santorini.

Sometimes our guests wonder if they can sail to Mykonos and Santorini during their time on board Albatross. The answer is : " Sure ... provided you have enough days on board to allow sailing that far out".

!

People planning a 2 week yacht charter need not to worry- there will be enough time to sail both to Mykonos and Santorini(plus another 10-11 islands in the Aegean archipelago) as you can see at .

1 WEEK TRIP

Starting from our Athens base

However groups planning to spend only 1 week sailing in Greece should have in mind that due to the distance, a sailing trip like Athens - Mykonos - Santorini - Athens is not really feasible in such a short time on board. Basically you would spend most of the time at sea, with no time left to explore the islands, stop in a bay, swim or enjoy the places you arrive at since most of the time will be transferring from one place to the next. And as fun as sailing might be, nobody can enjoy a "touch and go trip" where you just reach and island and you have to depart immediately.

But no worries: if your program only allows a 7 day yacht charter, you can sail Athens- Mykonos and back (with respect to weather conditions) - for possible sailing routes you can check 7 days sailing itinerary .

Upon disembarkation you can get a plane (multiple connections daily Athens-Santorini) and get to Santorini in only 45 minutes and for only around 50-60euro. Get a hotel on the rim of the Caldera and all is set for your romantic escape. For schedule/rates of air tickets please see Do Hop website.

Starting from our Mykonos base

Indulge yourself to the perfect sailing trip to Santorini! Lots of time for swimming and exploring, meals at delicious on shore taverns and anything you might dream of. The solution to explore the 2 most famous islands in Greece, plus another 4-5 in between, in just a week on board: embark at Mykonos and set sail for the adventure of a lifetime to popular Santorini as well as several off the beaten path island. Start right in the middle of the action -in the heart of the Cyclades - only a few hours away from so many amazing islands like Paros, Naxos, Syros etc.

Since many of our guests wish to visit both Santorini and Mykonos during a regular 7 day trip , the last years we have made special arrangements and set up a base in Mykonos as well in order to make all these dreams reality and be able to reach Santorini even during a regular 7 day trip. Please contact us for more details on hows / whats regarding your Mykonos - Santorini sailing adventure.

Reaching the embarkation point at Mykonos is extremely easy! Not only are there international flights landing at Mykonos airport ( IATA code- JMK ) but also getting from Athens to Mykonos is EXTREMELY easy. You can choose in between:

  • One of the many daily flights that connect Athens to Mykonos with a 45 minute flight. For the exact schedule please see Do Hop Planner after selecting your travel dates. Olympic Air, Sky Express and Volotea all have direct flight Athens - Mykonos- now you are in Athens and in no time you can be boarding the Albatross at Mykonos - it's really that easy!
  • One on the many ferry connections from Piraeus harbor - very convenient for the people planning to spend a couple of days in Athens before embarking their sailing adventure. Piraeus port is located only 9 kilometers away from the center of Athens. A regular taxi can get you from the center of Athens to Piraeus harbor in 10 minutes and for about 12 euro. We are happy to help you arrange a taxi or private transfer if you prefer.
  • One of the many ferry connections from Rafina port - very convenient for the people planning to come to Mykonos straight after their landing in Athens. Rafina port is only 15 kilometers (9 miles) away from Athens International airport. And there are tens of taxi waiting in front of the airport that can take you to the ferry terminal in about 20 minutes. Among others, ferry companies like GOLDEΝ STAR FERRIES and SeaJets operate from Rafina port.

Please note that the ferry schedule are announced a couple of months before the travel date - but rest assured there will be different options from morning till evening. Some of the ferry routes are announced ahead of time so for the summer period some sails might be announced as early as now - you might try and check Viva Travel for several of the options. And expect closer to the date more options/hours will become available as other companies decide to publish their schedule for the season.

Please inform us of your travel plans BEFORE booking so we inform you what and when is possible and also help you out with information on the easiest way of getting to the boat.

Due to logistics, after a trip has been booked, it will unfortunately no longer be possible to make such a major modifications on the embarkation point

Santorini Yacht Charter

private yacht from mykonos to santorini

Santorini is the ideal location for a yacht charter in Greece from the “what to see” perspective. The close distance to the islands of Mykonos and Delos makes for a packed itinerary.  Spectacular views, blue water, history of volcanic eruption on the ancient Thira island (Santorini) that provide unique terroir for the distinctive Assyrtiko grown here.

Nevertheless, the island in Southern Cyclades is a bit distant from Athens (over 130 nautical miles) , where majority of yachts are based. Not an issue on a 23 knots charter yacht, but quite an inconvenience on a 8kn sailboat. It is recommended to either deliver a yacht or charter from Mykonos . Note that both Mykonos and Santorini have an airport.

Your luxury charter in Santorini can start in Santorini itself, the nearby Mykonos or Athens.

Availability of luxury yachts in Santorini

Chartering from santorini.

The marina in Santorini is, as of 2023, not fully developed and the pickups are possible via kiss and go. Since provisioning on Santorini can also be more difficult, compared to Athens, the whole charter operation requires advance planing. There Santorini airport is quite international, including direct flights from London, Paris or Madrid.

Mykonos is a windy island, docking your yacht in high season is an exciting event. You better hold on to your hats!

Chartering to Santorini from Mykonos

Apart from taking a flight from Athens and starting/ending the charter on Santorini , the next best option is starting on Mykonos – better marina and infrastructure. There are some luxury yachts, especially catamarans and smaller motor yachts, permanently available on Mykonos.

private yacht from mykonos to santorini

Chartering to Santorini from Athens

Athens – the most convenien t location to start a charter destined for Santorini. Athens are easy to get to, provision, refuel and there are no delivery fees involved in case the yacht does return to Athens, re-delivery fees are often waived if the charter ends in Mykonos or Santorini – especially in high season .

There are many charming spots in Athens, a Cycladic neighborhood of Anafiotika neighborhood is a great example.

Charter season in Santorini

The best time to charter is definitely the shoulder season – May or September.

The high season overlaps with Summer holidays and is different for different luxury yacht companies as well. Often, the high season is expanded by the more popular yachts or shortened by their counterpart to better respond to demand .

Chartering in Santorini is pleasant as early as March (crewed yacht availability needs to be confirmed, most yachts start April/May) and as late as October/November . In recent years, the charter season has been extending due to increased demand for charter in the Cyclades as well as the generally warmer climate.

The Red Beach on Santorini - wake up early and have the beach for yourself. Or just anchor close and have spectacular breakfast with sun reflecting off the cliffs.

Top 7 things to see on a charter in Santorini

Karavolades stairs – ride the cable car/donkey.

Santorini is a hilly islands , most of the panoramic views are from the top, where you need to get one way or another. You could walk it up, you can take the cable car or a donkey.

The cable car is a unique experience, the expansive view of the blue waters of the Aegean sea opens as the car gets closer to the town of Fira on top. Your yacht charter captain will be able to assess the best time to go , as especially in high season, the “attraction” can be crowded .

The donkeys are a controversial topic. The animal conscious groups have been trying to shut them down for years, due to concerns over animal labor. Helpful measures have been set in place, mainly a weight limit on the weight limit of the person carried – 100kg/22lb . It is awesome to see families where the parents walk and let the kids enjoy the donkey ride. Whatever you choose, the donkeys carry washing machines , fridges and construction materials so the limit on humans not as meaningful in the bigger picture .

Walking – especially walking down the hill is a great experience, as the curvy steps offer a unique view from every angle. If you decide to walk the 586 steps of the Karavolades stairs , you have our respect !

The Cable Car is a relaxing sightseeing experience that takes tou from the Old Port of Santorini to the town of Fira above

Order a wine tasting/visit a winery

The volcanic wine is one of a kind – few places on earth can produce vulcanic wine – from the lighter Assyrtiko , where the iron and potassium contained in sand and pumice deliver a salty sweetness matching the on- water experience to fuller red, where the full bodied wine can provide hints of pepper or tobacco.

  • have us arrange a tasting with your crew
  • have us arrange a sommelier who boards your yacht and sets up a tasting on the yacht
  • have us arrange a trip to one of the local wineries with focus on the view, process or history

Santorini wines have a unique quality and taste - try the local Assyrtiko, don't hesitate to try the rose or bubbly variations.

Akrotiri – is it the ancient Atlantis?

We do know that there was a thriving civilization in Santorini when the Minoan eruption , originated on Santorini, devastated the Aegean islands including Crete – where it lead to the end of Minoan Civilization . It is not hard to imagine that the island became deserted in the following years, giving rise to myths such as that of the Atlantis . Whether you choose to accept this version or not – the Akrotiri is an excavated bronze age settlement going back to 5th millenium BC, covered by volcanic ash in time corresponding to the Minoan eruption.

What to see in Akrotiri – Frescoes of animistic and naturalistic motives as well as depictions of the civilization at the time, well preserved houses , objects of worship , furniture and architecture of this civilization that has vanished 3,600 years ago.

Ruins of the ancient buildings from the Minoan Bronze Age at the archaeological site in Akrotiri, Greece.

Greece Yacht Charters Explained - ALL You Want to Know: Overview, Areas, Seasons

Anchor at hot springs and take a bath.

Having a charter on a luxury yacht has it’s advantages. In multiple places in the caldera, the sea water is heated with iron and sulfur rich geothermal springs . It’s a great experience and your captain will know just the right spot to match the water temperature to your expectation.

There are things to know – the sulfuric water will ruin your swimsuit (we usually sacrifice underwear or go commando), some hot spring can be too hot so you’ll want to test the water before jumping in.

Apart from that, the views from a hot spring – floating in the warm water with a drink in your hand , taking it the views of the cliffs of Santorini – priceless .

There is a number of hot springs sprinkled around the volcanic Nea Kameni. Your captain will know the less visited ones.

Hike Nea Kameni Volcano

There are only a few places in the world where you can see volcanic activity. If the renewed lava flow on Big Island, Hawaii is too much for you, Nea Kameni on Santorini is just the place. There is no lava visible, but you do come to the realization that you’re standing in the caldera (inner rim) of a sleeping volcano. After seeing random steam vents and hissing, there always is a “memento mori” moment of – what if this thing goes off now…

If you’re taking the trip to strengthen relationships and introduce the element of introspection, do the ca 90 minute hike . Get back on your yacht, have a short refreshment before you relocate to one of the hot springs.

View of Nea Kameni (island) from the Town of Fira. We recommend visitin after the crew ships have left and continuing with hot springs.

Explore the blue domed churches of the doric city of Fira

Most of the images of Santorini feature the blue domed churches and a view of the caldera. There are famous for many reasons, lately because a network of grocery stores Lidl decided to photoshop out the crosses on top of the Three Bells of Fira church, causing outrage in the deeply religious Greek community. Funnily enough, there is a Lidl in Thira less than a mile from the city center.

Walking on the street outlining the edge of the cliff is a pleasant experience, don’t forget to stop by in one of the cafes or restaurants to stop and fully take in the majestic view. Go to the Three Bells of Fira to take some pictures!

Watch the sunset from your yacht

To fully appreciate Santorini – hurry less, not more. Ideally, just find a vantage point and appreciate where you are. Appreciate the 15,000+ years of history of this place from early fisherman to the fight of Greek Independence. Imagine how ancient boats from Egypt and Crete sailed into the old harbor to stock up on their way to today’s Istanbul (we recommend calling it Constantinopolis in Greece). Imagine the Venetian captains taking over the islands, imagine how pristine it must have been at the beginning of 20th century, when tourism was not a thing.

Also, imagine how Santorini will look like when your children take their families here the next time you’re here. Panta Rhei – it will not be the same island.

We’ve prepared a selection of crewed charter yachts below. We encourage you to not pick the boat, but pick the broker . Our brokers have access to more than 8 databases , including Yachtfolio and local Greek databases. Check our Trustpilot reviews . This is exactly a type of charter we do best!

Our Mykonos – Santorini private day cruise will travel you to one of the most emblematic and word famous summer destinations in Greece! The magical island of Santorini !

We will start our cruise from the Port of Platis Gialos. On our way to Santorini we will pass by the island of Paros . Paros manages to combine in a unique and enviable way the modern infrastructure with the traditional architecture. Meanwhile, it is always featured amongst the most popular holiday destinations in Greece. It attracts every year thousands of Greek and foreign visitors, as well as celebrities from all around the world.

Next to see is the island of Ios . This island is not only preferred by young people, who are looking for an amazing holiday experience, but also by young-at-heart visitors. Couples, dreaming of romantically beautiful island scenery for their vacations. Furthermore, the beautiful Chora of Ios has been declared as a traditional settlement. This is due to its typical Cycladic architecture, which is bound to impress you!

Suggested spots for a brief stop for swimming:

Kolimbithres / Paros : The exotic Kolimbithres is a sandy beach with crystal-clear waters and bizarre rocks that are forming small “swimming pools” that you will surely fall in love with. Located in Naoussa’s bay, this beach is definitely worth your visit.

Magganari Beach / Ios : Magganari is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches of the Aegean Sea for a reason; three quiet coves form an exotic lagoon, protected both by waves and wind. In this scenery, you will feel like you have found an earthly paradise away from the bustling crowds.

Then we will get to the island of Santorini.

The island is magically curved around the imposing Caldera, forming one of the most fascinating and mysterious destinations in the world. It’s an island where all your senses seem magnified, an effect of its many contrasts: black earth against whitewashed homes clinging to the cliffside, or wild volcanic sculptures against sleek Cycladic lines.

Any stay in Santorini island should always feature a yacht cruise to the three islets. They were violently created during the explosion of ancient times, named Nea Kammeni, Palea Kammeni, and Thirassia.

Their location at the opposite of the western part of Santorini gives one the opportunity to actually see the volcano and its magnificence. There, one can explore these rather barren, but nonetheless beautiful islets. With their rock formations and tremendous colors, they create picture-perfect scenery.

Grasp the chance to swim in their hot springs; only a few words can describe the feeling! The power of this volcanic island creates an energy that overwhelms the senses!

We will then start our cruise back to Mykonos and Platis Gialos Port. Our Mykonos – Santorini private day cruise is full of new, fascinating experiences, from one of the most amazing islands worldwide!

Santorini and Mykonos for an exclusive weekend on a charter

  • Yacht Itineraries

An unforgettable yacht cruise: Mykonos and Santorini Sail to Santorini and Mykonos on a luxury charter for a weekend among the typical postcard-like white houses overlooking the deep blue sea.  The two islands are ever more up to date, different and yet similar especially in the way they always live up to expectations.

A longer yacht cruise of the Cyclades Island would be best to fully enjoy the beauty of these charming locations, but if you are planning to spend a weekend there here are our recommendations on what to see in Mykonos and Santorini .

Santorini Mykonos Yacht Charter

Visit Santorini on a luxury charter

Even on a short holiday you cannot miss shopping at Santorini’s exclusive stores: from jewels made by contemporary artists inspired by modernized Byzantine art to fashion and accessory shops selling the collections of local artists inspired by the colors of the island, to art galleries and chic wine bars.

For those who would prefer not to dine on board Santorini boasts several top quality restaurants , offering a taste of the local cuisine improved by professional chefs who know how to delight the palate of demanding patrons.

The weekend is almost over but you cannot leave the island without first visiting Red Beach , the world famous beach of red sand: a cliff made of lava that plunges into the crystal-clear sea, a proof of its volcanic origin. This almost surreal site rests on the southern coast of the island inside a large bay, the result of the erosion of the mountain that towers above it.

The most magical sunset is in Santorini, the truly unforgettable one that your mind will keep going back to long after your yacht cruise in Greece is over. Sipping a drink on one of Oia’s exclusive terraces you will be enchanted by the sight of the sun disappearing in the sea in a flash of red light, spectacularly coloring the outline of the ancient caldera. And here, in silent, suspended moments of contemplation of a spectacle that repeats itself everyday, the same and yet a different one each time, you will understand why there is no other sunset in the world like this.

Visit Mykonos on a luxury yacht

If Saturday in Santorini was fantastic, Sunday in Mykonos will be just as great. The island has a double nature: during the day it lives off the life of unspoiled sites where the sweet scent of the green Mediterranean vegetation enfolds the transparent sea; at night exclusive clubs fire up nights that seems to go on forever.

The white houses covered in bougainvillea flowers make Mykonos the symbol of the  kind of Mediterranean lifestyle that today is very much sought after and loved. But this is also the island of blasting music, a heaven of techno, house, commercial, minimal and garage sounds, of eccentric characters, of tourists in search of exciting and extreme adventures, as well as of hopeless romantics that will be enchanted by its sunsets.

Devote your day to soak up the sun on your luxury charter equipped with the most exclusive amenities and visit Mykonos best beaches . The most famous and trendy ones are along the southern coast, which  in the summer months can be very busy. Wilder and more secluded getaways are instead found in the north, perfect if you wish to steer away from the island’s night life.

The evening is spent at beach parties or exclusive clubs like Cavo Paradiso, Paradise or Skandinavian Disco Source where you will listen to the music of international DJs while sipping a cocktail to make your nights in Mykonos memorable. Or the clubs in Little Venice full of atmosphere and a touch of romance.

Ready to leave for an unforgettable weekend in Mykonos and Santorini on a luxury charter ? Contact us, our team of experts will choose the perfect yacht for you and recommend the right tour for your next memorable cruise of Greece .

Sail Greece: Mykonos to Santorini

8 days | sail from mykonos to santorini on this greek island adventure.

Sailing the Small Cyclades in Greece

Move between the boat, the beach and inviting Greek villages on this relaxing eight-day sailing adventure between Mykonos and Santorini. Spend your days swimming in turquoise waters, lazing on white-sand beaches, sampling mouth-watering local cuisine and exploring coastal villages steeped in history, mythology and beauty. Visit the beautiful islands of Amorgos, Naxos, Small Cyclades and Ios, watch a host of spectacular sunsets and enjoy Greek hospitality before returning to the boat to be rocked gently to sleep at night.

Trip overview

  • Tour the iconic Cyclades Islands by yacht – is there any better way? Swim in the Aegean Sea off the side of the boat and let the waves rock you to sleep each night.
  • Visit the chic waterfront bars that line the beaches of Mykonos, serving authentic Greek food and cocktails as the sun goes down. This is a great place to eat well and relax!
  • Explore the 11th-century monastery of Moni Hozoviotissis, wedged between the dramatic cliffs of Amorgos.
  • Pass the bleached-white villages that cling to plunging cliffs along the rim of a volcano –Santorini has some of the most distinctive and attractive landscapes in the world.
  • Head away from the tourist trail to the remote Small Cyclades islands, chock-full of tavernas serving fresh seafood and small villages to explore.
  • As the majority of this trip takes place on a sailing boat, you’ll need to feel comfortable with moving about the vessel, including the use of stairs. With that said, sea legs come naturally to some but not so much for others. Your friendly crew will be able to help with the effects of sea sickness if needed.
  • Our yachts have a small Zodiac on board, which is used to transport travellers to shore if we need to anchor in the bay. However, we will most often overnight in the small marinas on each island we visit, so the Zodiacs aren’t used. Zodiacs can sometimes be awkward to climb in and out of, but a sense of humour and a can-do attitude are all you need.
  • This is an adventure on board a real yacht, which means living spaces, cabins, bathrooms and showers need to be shared with other passengers. Sleeping quarters can be quite compact, but you will be spending the majority of your time above board in the open air.
  • Time on the water also means time in the sun. Remember to pack sun protection, such as sun screen and a hat, and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. See ‘Essential Trip Information’ below for a full packing list.
  • Please note that smooth sailing is dependent on the weather, so itinerary changes may occur at the last minute if the weather becomes unfavourable. If any changes are made, you can trust in your knowledgeable skipper to choose an alternative route or activity.
  • Due to the size of the yachts, sound carries easily from one side to the other and can wake your fellow travellers. If you’re planning to have a late night, it’s a good idea to head into town and experience the local night life.

View the itinerary for departures between 01 January 2024 - 31 December 2024

Kalimera! Welcome to Greece. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 4 pm at a restaurant (Cantina Mykonos). The first port of call is the local supermarket to buy supplies for your trip as a group. The starter pack will include provisions for some breakfasts, lunches and/or snacks. If you have any special dietary requirements, please make sure you notify us at the time of booking so we can accommodate your requests. Before or after the meeting, maybe head out to explore Mykonos or unwind on one of the island’s sandy beaches. Perhaps visit the Church of Panagia Paraportiani or browse the galleries, restaurants and boutiques. Tonight, why not grab your fellow travellers and wander down to Little Venice to enjoy a cocktail by the water at sunset.

  • Overnight boat (1 night)

There are no meals included on this day.

Your skipper will collect the trip kitty of EUR 100 at the pre-departure meeting today.

There is another business named 'Cantina' right at the big ferry terminal which is not our meeting point. Our meeting point is the 'Cantina' just besides Olia Hotel Mykonos at Tourlos Marina. There is 700 m distance between the two.

The beauty of sailing is that each day is unique and, while we have a destination to reach, if the weather changes or something takes the group’s fancy, we are flexible on the day's itinerary. The itinerary is subject to change and may vary depending on weather. Your skipper will make the final call to ensure your safety at all times.

This morning, head for the Bay of Gaidharos for breakfast and a swim, before making your way across the glistening water to Naxos – home to beautiful beaches, fragrant olive groves and the villages of Hora, the capital of Naxos. As the largest Cycladic Island, Naxos also has one of the most colourful mythological histories. The Old Town areas of Hora are perfect for a stroll and some nightlife. Visit the impressive Venetian Kastro, where mansions, monuments and churches all retain their medieval spirit in the winding laneways. Stop by the old Roman Catholic Cathedral in the square, and the nearby Archaeological Museum which is housed in the former Jesuit School of Commerce. The massive Portara stands as the gateway to the unfinished Temple of Apollo on the islet of Palatia, just to the north of the marina. You can also head into the countryside to see local rural life, visit one of the oldest temples in Greece, then chill out in the hills with lunch at a family tavern. Get a taste of the local brew with a shot of Kitron (best described as a lemon liquor) and top it off with a wander along the beach. Over the next few days, you’ll sail to Syros, the Small Cyclades, Amorgos, Ios, then you’ll return to Santorini.

Sail to the island of Syros, dropping by the Bay of Gaidharos along the way for a swim. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and neo-classical architecture, Syros’ neutral role during the Greek Revolution made it a safe haven for the persecuted. You can catch a bus up the hill to the fortress-like village of Ano Syros and explore the town’s stone archways and narrow alleyways (the views of the Aegean are stunning from up here). Sample authentic Greek food and culture in the capital of Syros and the Cyclades, Ermoupoli, and check out the town hall in the main square.

Sail to the Small Cyclades, where only Koufonisia, Iraklia, Schinousa and Donousa have permanent residents. Here, you'll discover clear waters, great beaches, friendly locals and sleepy tavernas all built around the fishing villages. Explore the town, maybe sampling some fresh seafood in a waterfront taverna – a great way to take in the magic of the Mediterranean.

Visit the rugged mountainous island of Amorgos is known as the location of Luc Bresson's film 'The Big Blue'. Amorgos has a history of colonisation and occupation with evidence of a functioning society back as far as 4000 BC. At Katapola, the island's main port, you'll see classic Cycladic architecture with windmills and an old Venetian castle. Stroll the waterfront, explore the ancient Minoan Settlement or visit the village of Hora (Amorgos town), which sits high on the rocky mountainside. Maybe drive up to the 11th-century monastery, Moni Hozoviotissis, built gripping the cliff face with panoramic views across the Aegean Sea.

Continue to Ios, an island inhabited since early Cycladic times, proudly claiming to be the burial place of epic Greek poet Homer. Ios has managed to retain some allure from the abundance of beaches and preservation of its classic cube houses packed around the laneways of Hora. A short walk from the harbour are Hora's shops, restaurants, nightclubs, bars and cafes. If you’re seeking a more authentic taste of the Old Town, explore during the day while the masses are beachside. The popular beaches of Gialos and Milopotas are also lively at night with a range of water sports on offer during the day. Valmas, Kolitzani and Tsamaria are all options if you're looking for something a little quieter. Sunset views can be enjoyed from the hill where Panagia Gremiotissa (the Church of the Virgin) sits. The distinctive single palm tree next to the church makes it an icon you can always see from throughout town.

On your penultimate day, you’ll sail back towards Santorini, spending the final night of the trip in Thirasia. Formed by a huge volcanic explosion, Santorini is instantly recognisable with its blue and white buildings, fascinating ruins and natural beauty. After sailing through the caldera, maybe head to the capital of Fira, sitting the edge of the caldera. Popular for its restaurants, shops and bars, you can make the most of the scenery on a walk along the rim to Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia. Santorini's volcanic beaches are also a must-see – head to Red Beach or the black beaches of Perissa, Vlhada, Perivolos and Agios Georgios.

  • Overnight boat (6 nights)

Your sailing time on Day 2 will be approximately 3 hours. Your sailing time on Day 3 will be approximately 5 hours. Your sailing time on Day 4 will be approximately 3 hours.

Your adventure comes to an end this morning in Santorini at Athinios Port. If you plan to depart today, make sure your flight doesn’t depart until after 4 pm. Your skipper can assist with organizing a taxi to drop you off at your hotel or Santorini Airport. It’s recommend booking a couple of extra night's accommodation to see all the sights that Santorini has to offer – if you do have the time to extend your adventure, just get in touch with your booking agent ahead of time.

Depending on the weather conditions and berthing availability, you may cross from Ios to Santorini by ferry on the last day. This will mean you’ll arrive in Santorini by approximately 12 pm.

Overnight boat (7 nights)

Dates and availability

Important notes.

START TIME: The trip commences on day 1 in Mykonos at 4pm.

ACCOMMODATION ON BOARD THE YACHT This trip is accommodated entirely on board a yacht of between 54ft to 56ft. A typical yacht for 11 travellers is equipped with a mixture of 2 x double cabins, 2 x twin cabins and 1 x triple cabin. There are 5 shared bathrooms. Our boats are real yachts and this is a real sailing trip. Yachts are designed to keep sleeping areas to the absolute minimum of space, while maximising common areas as much as possible.

Rooms are allocated on arrival by our skipper according to group composition, which means it is not possible to reserve or guarantee any specific berth or cabin. Single passengers will be paired up with another passenger of the same gender, this may mean sharing a double cabin with a double mattress. If you’d prefer not to share a cabin, a single cabin supplement is available at an additional charge. Everyone including the skipper shares the bathrooms on board.

While not everyone may feel entirely comfortable living in such close quarters, those who are looking to revel in the adventure and exhilaration of an authentic sailing trip usually find any discomfort from cramped living conditions is more than made up for by the whole experience.

HOT WEATHER: Summer temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, which can be uncomfortable for those not used to the heat. Please consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.

MINIMUM AGE: The minimum age on this trip is 15.

PASSPORT DETAILS: Please provide full passport details at time of booking including exact name as per passport, date of birth, nationality, issue and expiry dates as these are essential for booking services on this trip.

ADDITIONAL ACCOMMODATION: Please note that the majority of our sailing trips start and/or finish at a marina or port. If you have pre-booked any additional accommodation through us, you will need to make your own way to the joining point on day 1 and from the finish point on the final day. We do not provide transfers between hotels and the port/marina. Please check the 'Joining Point Description' in the Essential Trip Information for details.

SNORKELLING There are many opportunities for snorkelling during this trip. Diving masks, snorkels and fins are provided onboard the yacht and are for use by all passengers. They are disinfected prior to use. Some customers may prefer to bring their own diving mask and snorkel from home and just use the fins available on board.

TRIP KITTY: On this trip we highly recommend that you contribute to a kitty of EUR100 per person. The kitty is an on-ground payment put into a central fund managed by travellers. It helps fund for breakfast and lunch on the boat and other small items such as ice, water, snacks and drinks. Travellers are responsible for the preparation of these meals onboard and to shop at port where supermarkets are often very close to the mooring. Kitty amounts are subject to change to reflect local price increases. On day 1, the skipper will talk through the kitty and how it will be managed (by yourself or fellow travellers) The kitty will be collected when you arrive at the welcome meeting or in stages throughout your trip.

** Please note, the kitty amount should be used as a guide. More than likely you will not spend the full amount recommended however it's advisable to budget for this amount **

Want an in-depth insight into this trip? Essential Trip Information provides a detailed itinerary, visa info, how to get to your hotel, what's included - pretty much everything you need to know about this adventure and more.

From Mykonos to Santorini

YACHT CHARTER GREECE | SAIL FROM MYKONOS TO SANTORINI

Day 1: Mykonos

One of the most cosmopolitan of all the Greek islands, Mykonos has an international reputation and justifiably attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world. The capital Chora, with its colourful harbour in which little fishing boats nest happily side by side with luxury yachts, presents quite a different picture from that of the majority of Aegean island towns. One of the most charming districts of Chora is Little Venice with the picturesque houses of the island's sea captains, built right on the rocks lashed on by the sea. The mascot of the Island is a Pelican, called Petros, which can be seen trying to bite tourists at the port. Mykonos is also famous for its beaches. The most famous ones are located in the southern part of the island. Psarou beach with its pure and clean white sand is considered a VIP place. You will often see here beautiful yachts at anchor and people enjoying the gorgeous sea. It is also an ideal place for water sports activities. The water is usually calm as it is protected with the mountains around. Other famous places similar to Psarou are Elia, Kalafatis, Paranga located south. When in Mykonos, remember to taste delicious pepper flavoured kopanisti, a soft cheese seasoned with pepper. It is the gastronomic trademark of the island. Cooked pork filet with spices known as “louzes” is perfect for meat-eaters, as well as local sausages sprinkled with pepper.

Day 2: Paros

Sailing from Mykonos to Paros (Naousa bay) after breakfast Paros, the third largest of the Cyclades after Naxos and Andros. Gently rolling hills surround the centre and southeast of the island, which is occupied by endless vineyards. Paroikia (or Paros),the island's capital and port, stands on the site of an ancient city. There are a picturesque and ruinous Venetian castle and the courtyards of the houses of the town - all of them painted white - are full of hanging pots of basil, jasmine and honeysuckle. Walk around the village before cruising to Langeri, a secluded sandy beach, or Drios beach, which happens to have a fabulous fish taverna. In general, Paros looks like the vibrant life has not stepped on shore, however, you’ll find here both, tranquil and vibrant atmosphere. The main village of the island is Paroikia, whereas Naoussa is famous for having cosmopolitan vibes. Both have whitewashed houses that look like sugar cubes, ouzeries, restaurants, potted geraniums, clouds of bougainvillaea, and fine restaurants. The picture-perfect scenery is completed with little colourful caiques - traditional fishing boats. Kolymbithres Beach located near Naoussa is one of the most beautiful spots on the island. And it is also one of the most popular ones in the area for its strange rock formations. In summer it gets crowded so you may not want to stay there long. Let your captain choose a nice bay nearby for an overnight stay and dinner on board.

Day 3: Antiparos, Schinoussa, Kaoufonisia

Sailing from Paros to Antiparos after breakfast. Antiparos is famous for the off-the-beaten-track vibe. This is a nice destination if you want to escape the crowds and just stay away from the developed towns. Maybe this is one of the main reasons why the Hollywood star Tom Hanks owns a house in Antiparos and comes here for a vacation with his family. Other celebrities as Matthew McConaughey, Whoopi Goldberg, Nia Vardalos also come here for a real Greek holiday. The most popular activity in Antiparos island is swimming. Many sandy beaches with crystal water are found in close distance to Chora. There are some interesting reefs and old wrecks to be discovered. You can also visit the Cave of Antiparos, one of the largest in Europe. It takes more than 400 steps to reach the heart of the cave and see its impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Locals recommend Sifneiko beach for an amazing sunset experience. Sailing from Antiparos to Schinoussa for lunch.

Schinoussa, or the Island of the Rising Sun, is a little remote land that belongs to the community of Small Cyclades. Forbes picked it as one of the must-visit places in Greece. This island suits best to those who wish to escape crowds, all-inclusive developments on the most popular islands, who appreciate privacy, unspoilt natural settings, calm and isolated destination, the unhurried path of life and absence of the modern world disturbance. Those who’ve been to Schinoussa say it is as if you’ve travelled in the past. The villages of the island reflect the atmosphere of the old Greece in the 1950s. The main reason to visit is to enjoy its secluded beaches (Almyros, Lioliou, Tsigouri), wild landscapes and meet the friendly locals who call themselves as the descenders of the pirates. There are no sightseeing options except the church of Panagia Akathi - the protector of Schinoussa. One of the few places to savour local foods is Harama. It’s a family-owned restaurant with a large terrace overlooking a local village and the sea. Traditional Greek food is served here from the ingredients that grow in the garden of the restaurant. There’s also a little vineyard nearby. Sailing from Schoinousa to Kaoufonisia for the night.

When ready, set sail to your next destination - Koufonisia. Koufonisia is not the name of one island. It is a community of three small islands - Pano Koufonisi, Kato Koufonisi, and Keros. This island complex is one of charming Greek summer Edenic spots where you won’t meet crowds of tourists. Inhabited Pano Koufonisi is where all the touristic facilities are located. Kato Koufonisi is a paradise with crystal-clear turquoise seawater. Upon your arrival swim in a picturesque anchorage and then spend the evening wandering in the old town, Chora Koufonisia. Sample some delicious local specialities. Once being back on board, opt for a quieter night in a nearby bay.

Day 4: Pano Koufonisi, Nikouria, Amargos

Sailing from Kaoufonisia to Pano Koufonisi in the morning. It is a very quiet and charming place where approximately 300 people live permanently. It is indeed the smallest inhabited island in the Cyclades. It is easy to imagine that it’s a real paradise without cars and traffic jam where travellers can relax by swimming, sunbathing, walking, eating, drinking and swimming some more. The most beautiful beaches include Ammos and Pori covered with the sand coloured in the golden tones and washed by the crystal clear shallow sea waters. Next to Pori some large caves are found to impress the visitors. As for dining options, there’s Capetan Nikolas famous for great seafood, Mellisa offering traditional homemade Greek meals, and Mixalios considered to be great for meat lovers. Sailing from Pano Koufonisi to Nikouria for lunch.

Nikouria is an uninhabited Island of roughly 5 km long. This is a nice place for a quick stop for lunch and some fun water activities, as well as visiting beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches. The island is known for the production of coins in the antique times. Sailing from Nikouria to the center of Amargos island for dinner. When ready, set sail to Amorgos famous for its white monastery of Hozoviotissa, the second oldest in Greece. Embedded into a sheer orange cliff face, it looks surreal at a height of more than 350 meters. Save a visit for the next day, perhaps right after breakfast. Tonight walking up to the Langada hill is a beautiful option for those loving active vacation. There you can have dinner with the view. If you don’t favour a long walk, it is also possible to take a taxi. The island is also much loved for its marvellous beaches with azure waters, caves, diving spots, scenic bays and ancient footpaths through steep rocky terrain. An interesting fact is that Amorgos served as the filming site of the 1988 movie "The Big Blue" by Luc Besson.

Day 5: Drima, Ios

Sailing from Amorgos center to Drima for breakfast. Drima, also known as Kato Antikeri is located in the northwestern Cyclades, and it is a private island. It is also listed for sale and open for the development. Right now the island looks like uninhabited paradise surrounds with the green and turquoise crystal clear sea, perfect for snorkelling, swimming and enjoying dolce far niente time. Sailing from Drima to Ios (Manganari beach) for lunch. After lunch set sails to the Manganari beach on the island of Ios. Usually, this place is kept undisturbed by people as it’s quite remote and located quite far from the main town. So for those who like peaceful and charming beaches with golden sand and clear water, it is the right place to be.

Some of the scenes from the "The Big Blue» movie by Luc Besson were also filmed here. Sailing from Ios (Manganari beach) to Ios center for dinner. Ios, which is locally called Nios, is an island whose history goes back to prehistoric times. According to Herodotus, the “poet of poet’s”, the ‘godlike’ Homer was buried at Plakotos, in the north of the island and Pausanias tells us that there was an inscription at Delphi confirming the poet’s interment on Ios. The sites of Ios include a Hellenistic tower and the remains of an ancient aqueduct at Agia Theodoti, traces of an ancient temple at Psathi, a ruinous Venetian castle at the spot known as Paleokastro, and the Hellenistic tower of Plakotos. Ios is loved for its vibrant nightlife that’s why it’s usually visited by young travellers from all over the world who come here to enjoy buzzing local bars, clubs, restaurants, and cafes. If you’re not a fan of local party scenes, then enjoy a leisurely walk around the village or visit the church of Panagia Gremiotissa and savour the imposing views.

Day 6: Santorini

Sailing from Ios to Santorini (Red beach) for lunch.

As you approach Santorini, it's easy to imagine the cataclysm that gave birth to this astonishing Greek Island that has become such a popular tourist destination. Your yacht edges between bare islands of volcanic rock and the crescent-shaped remains of the volcano. Santorini, with its sheer black cliffs rising 200 meters out of the sea, actually consists of three islands: Thira, Thirasia and Aspronisi.

First stop is at the“Martian” beach, where the “sand” is red. It’s not the sand, but a mineral crumb of terracotta hue, which appeared here after one of the rocks cracked. It is one of the most popular beaches in the area due to its colour.

Sailing from Santorini (Red beach) to Santorini (Thira) for dinner.

For dinner you cam travel to Pyrgos, a village where locals go for dining experience away from the crowds in Fira or Oia. Tavernas here are famous for serving super delicious food. Mythos taverna has a great variety of dishes and wines, and it does feature a beautiful panoramic view, as it’s located on the hill. One more option is Metaxy Mas, where they serve “fillet with Vinsanto sauce or boneless pork chops with orange sauce and jacket potato” or risotto-like seafood dish called 'Giouvetsi' featuring mussels, prawns, saffron, olive oil. Food lovers must visit the world-famous “Selene” restaurant also located in Pygros, as not only it has creative Greek and Santorini cuisine, but because it has an incredible story behind.

The restaurant was opened more than 30 years ago by Mr Giorgos Hatzigiannakis, when Greek food wasn’t very popular. Who knew that was the case, right? Local dining places in Greece were offering more of foreign dishes, specifically focusing on French cuisine. It was because locals thought they had nothing to impress tourists with, thinking that their own recipes “represented the poverty of the old days”.

The family of Hatzigiannakis thought the other way. So they started to do the magic by renovating the old recipes, promoting local ingredients, experimenting with food, and thus developing Santorini’s cuisine and inspiring others. This all was more than appreciated first by travellers, and then by locals as well. So it is fair to say that “Selene” was the pioneer of the famous modern Greek cuisine and it contributed to the fact that Santorini is not only a romantic destinaiton but also a popular gastronomic stop.

Day 7: Santorini

Santorini Center Thira what most travellers know as Santorini has a reputation of one of the most romantic spots on Earth. Couples who want to celebrate their love, have a wedding ceremony or a lovely photoshoot against the beautiful backdrop of the island, adore this destination. The most visited towns on the island are Fira and Oia. More than half a century ago they were destroyed by a massive earthquake, and locals managed to fully rebuild them and turn into travel Mecca. Steep balconies and terraces, narrow cute streets, blue domes, whitewashed Greek houses, craved in the cliffs, neoclassical building, cave-like hotels, authentic souvenir shops – those are just a few things why you’d love a walk around Fira and Oia. The Balcony of Santorini is the name of a cliff survived after numerous earthquakes. It is located at one of the highest points of the island where a picturesque village of Imerovigli stands. Couples usually choose this place for their wedding ceremony. While driving around the island on a quad bike or with a car you’ll think that soil here is not capable of producing any fruits and vegetables, as it looks very dry. However, if to pay attention you’ll notice wine and olive groves here and there, and vegetables and fruits growing. For wine lovers, there’s even a museum of wine located near Kamari. It’s founded at the end of the 19th century by two brothers. You can taste various sorts of wine here, visit a cave with wine stock. Winemaking is one of the most favourite things to do among locals. They’re very proud of their wines produced from the special grape – asiritico. And they should be as it tastes amazing. Between Skala (the main port), at the base of the cliff, and Thera (the main town), a narrow path has been etched into the cliff-face in a series of zigzags. To the left of the path, there are the prosaic lines of a cable car, the first hint of the island's connection with the twentieth century and tourism. There are three ways to get from Skala to Thera - mule, foot or cable car. The most popular is by mule. Besides the interesting architecture of the houses in Thera, it is worth visiting the two cathedrals (the Orthodox and the Catholic) and the Monastery of the Dominican nuns. The Catholic monastery of Panagia of Rodari, which was built in the area of Skaros where the medieval capital of the island used to lie surrounded by a strong fortress on the edge of a steep hill, and the Venetian building Gizi are worth a visit. The best places to watch the sunset in Santorini are from the deck of a yacht if you are seeking for privacy, Imerovigli village on top of Thira, and Oia if you don’t mind hundreds of people standing next to you, and from Santo Winery where you can also enjoy some local wines while watching one of the most beautiful natural phenomena.

Day 8: Santorini

Farewell to the crew and departure after breakfast.

One of the defining features of Santorini is its unique landscape. The island was shaped by a massive volcanic eruption thousands of years ago, resulting in steep cliffs, rugged coastlines, and the famous Santorini caldera. The caldera, a large submerged crater, provides stunning panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and is a sight that should not be missed.

The island’s main towns, Fira and Oia, are postcard-perfect with their white-washed buildings, blue-domed churches, and narrow cobbled streets. From these towns, you can wander along the cliffside paths and indulge in breathtaking views of the sea and the iconic Santorini sunset.

Planning Your One-Day Trip

Planning a one-day trip from Mykonos to Santorini requires careful consideration of various factors to ensure you make the most of your limited time. Here are some tips to help you plan your itinerary:

1. Time of Year:

Consider the time of year when planning your trip. The peak season in both Mykonos and Santorini is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warmest and the islands are buzzing with tourists. However, visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) can provide a more relaxed experience, with fewer crowds and milder temperatures.

2. Transportation:

Research and book your transportation options in advance. There are several ways to travel from Mykonos to Santorini, including by ferry or by plane. Ferries are the most common mode of transportation and offer a scenic journey across the Aegean Sea. However, keep in mind that the ferry ride can take several hours, so plan your time accordingly. Alternatively, taking a domestic flight is quicker but may be more expensive.

3. Itinerary:

Create a well-planned itinerary to make the most of your day in Santorini. Start by deciding which sights and activities are a priority for you. Some must-see attractions include the beautiful village of Oia, the stunning Santorini caldera, and the ancient ruins of Akrotiri. Consider whether you want to spend more time exploring the towns or relaxing at the beaches, and allocate your time accordingly.

4. Early Start:

To maximize your time in Santorini, start your day early. Depending on your chosen mode of transportation, aim to catch an early morning ferry or flight from Mykonos to Santorini. This will give you a head start on your day and allow you to make the most of your limited time on the island.

5. Pack Essentials:

Ensure you pack the essentials for your day trip. Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, comfortable walking shoes, and a swimsuit if you plan to visit the beaches. Additionally, carry a small backpack with water, snacks, and any necessary medications.

6. Remain Flexible:

While having a well-planned itinerary is important, it’s also essential to remain flexible. Unexpected delays or changes may occur during your trip, so be prepared to adapt your plans as necessary. Remember to relax and enjoy the experience rather than sticking strictly to a rigid schedule.

By taking these factors into account and planning ahead, you can make the most of your one-day trip from Mykonos to Santorini, ensuring a memorable and fulfilling experience on both islands.

Transportation Options

When it comes to traveling from Mykonos to Santorini, there are several transportation options available to suit different preferences and budgets. Here are the main modes of transportation to consider:

The most popular and scenic option is to take a ferry from Mykonos to Santorini. The journey takes approximately 2-3 hours, depending on the type of ferry chosen. There are both high-speed ferries and conventional ferries available, with varying ticket prices and amenities. The ferries typically depart from the old port in Mykonos Town and arrive at the Athinios Port in Santorini.

The ferry ride offers stunning views of the Aegean Sea and the opportunity to enjoy the fresh sea breeze. Onboard, you’ll find comfortable seating areas, cafes, and sometimes even outdoor decks where you can relax and soak in the atmosphere.

2. Domestic Flight:

If you’re short on time or prefer a quicker mode of transportation, taking a domestic flight from Mykonos to Santorini is an option to consider. Several airlines operate daily flights between the two islands, with flights typically taking around 30 minutes. Flying allows you to save time and reach your destination swiftly.

Keep in mind that flights tend to be more expensive than ferry tickets. Additionally, there are luggage restrictions that may apply, so check the airline’s policies before booking your flight.

3. Private Yacht or Speedboat:

For those seeking a more luxurious and personalized experience, chartering a private yacht or speedboat is an option worth exploring. This allows you to travel at your own pace and enjoy the stunning views of the Aegean Sea in utmost comfort and privacy.

Private yacht charters offer flexibility, allowing you to customize your itinerary and make stops at secluded beaches or other nearby islands along the way. However, it is important to note that this option can be quite expensive and may not be feasible for all budgets.

4. Guided Day Trip Tours:

If you prefer a hassle-free and guided experience, joining a day trip tour is a convenient option. Several tour operators offer organized day trips from Mykonos to Santorini, providing transportation and guiding you through the main highlights of Santorini in a limited timeframe. This option is particularly useful for travelers who want a pre-planned itinerary and the expertise of a local guide.

Before booking a guided day trip, ensure that the tour operator offers the activities and attractions you’re most interested in and that the tour schedule aligns with your preferences.

When choosing your transportation option, consider factors such as cost, travel time, level of comfort, and personal preferences. Regardless of the mode of transportation you choose, each offers its own unique experience, and the journey itself will surely leave you in awe of the beauty of the Greek islands.
