With 2015 nearing the end, US car magazine Motor Trend has announced its “Car of the Year” finalists, in three separate categories. First off, we have the ‘2016 Car of the Year’ short list which includes a variety of vehicles, starting with the “hydrogen-eating” Toyota Mirai , going through the new BMW 7-Series and ending with the Mercedes-AMG GT S . Besides these, the list also includes the Mazda MX-5 Miata , the Honda Civic , the Chevrolet Camaro and the Audi TT , all brand new, of course.

The ‘2016 Truck of the Year’ finalists are dominated by General Motors with their Chevy Colorado and Silverado , and the GMC Canyon and Sierra . The Nissan Titan XD and the Toyota Tacoma are also found here.

Last but not least, Motor Trend added five different vehicles on its ‘2016 SUV of the Year’ nominees list which includes the Mercedes-Benz GLE / GLE Coupe , the Volvo XC90 , the Nissan Murano , the Honda Pilot and the Lincoln MKX .

Journalists from the magazine together with two special guest star judges, cast their votes, with each vehicle being evaluated against six key criteria: safety, advancement in design, efficiency, value, performance of intended function and engineering excellence. The winners in each category will be announced in a single red carpet event, on November 16, in front of an audience of industry insiders and celebrities.

10 Top Picks of 2016: Best Cars of the Year

The best cars on the market in America across 10 popular categories

Car shoppers always seek the best car. How they define it may differ, an d the buying decision certainly factors in price and pure emotional appeal.

For Consumer Reports, we define the "best" car as the one that excels in our extensive tests, as well as shines for reliability, safety, and owner satisfaction. Certainly, there are many good cars on the market today to choose from. But when a reader asks us to definitively name the best, the 10 Top Picks are our answers across popular categories. And we have the data to back it up.

What It Takes to Be Tops

Performance: To qualify, each model must rank at or near the top of its class in our road-test score.

Reliability: Models must have an average or better predicted reliability rating based on problems reported by subscribers for the 740,000 vehicles in our 2015 auto survey.

Owner satisfaction: We surveyed our subscribers about their happiness level regarding the 230,000 vehicles in their garages. Would they buy their car again?

Safety: Top Picks must perform effectively in crash or rollover tests conducted by the government and insurance industry (if tested).

10 Top Picks Over the Years

See the vehicles that made Consumer Reports’ annual Top Picks list in 2024 , 2023 ,  2022 , 2021 , 2020 , 2019 , 2018 , 2017 , 2015 , 2014 , 2013 , and 2012 . See the complete  2024 Autos Spotlight guide .

Best Subcompact Car: Honda Fit

Thinking about the first new car for yourself or someone in your family? This Honda may just be the perfect fit. It’s thrifty with fuel, returning a competitive 33 mpg overall, and yet its nimble handling never gives off a “compromise car” vibe. It has remarkable interior space for such a tiny footprint, with second-row seats that elegantly stow away or flip up to hold more cargo. A rear-view camera is standard. Road noise does boom in, and its rough ride can be tiring on long drives. Still, owner satisfaction is high, and its crash-test scores have improved over its predecessor. For just under $20,000, the Fit can be an easy-to-park runabout that keeps you smiling.

Honda Honda

Best Compact Car: Subaru Impreza

Despite its compact size, the car’s ride and overall comfort will surprise you. It has expansive window glass, lots of interior space for a car of its size, intuitive controls, a suite of available safety technology, great crash-test results, and an available hatchback version to haul bulky cargo. If you live where there’s heavy snowfall, you’ll appreciate its superb all-wheel-drive traction. The Impreza is a smart, practical car.

Subaru Subaru

Best Midsized Car: Toyota Camry

Sure, it might seem like vanilla, but vanilla happens to be the best-selling flavor of ice cream. The Camry’s no-fuss driving experience—great outward visibility, controls that fall easily to hand, a roomy interior—may not be the most thrilling in its class, but it’s far from plain. A quiet cabin, slick powertrains, a comfortable ride, and sound handling make it pleasant and capable. A Hybrid version delivers excellent fuel economy while remaining reasonably affordable. The solid Camry delivers year after year of outstanding reliability, which when combined with impressive crash-test results, make it a near-perfect sedan and one of our 10 Top Picks.

Toyota Toyota

Best Small SUV: Subaru Forester

We hear all the time that Subaru is “the official car of New England.” But the Forester is good enough to be the small SUV of Everywhere. It’s roomy, rides comfortably, and handles unflappably. Its AWD system routed the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V in our snow-driving evaluations. Fuel economy is among class leaders. It also has the best sight lines from the driver’s seat of any model on the market. Forward-collision warning and automatic braking aren’t standard, but they’re available across most of the lineup at affordable prices. Strong IIHS crash-test scores make it a safe cocoon.

Best Luxury SUV: Lexus RX

Lexus created the luxury crossover segment almost 20 years ago, and its dominance hasn’t diminished since. Origami styling and its “Predator” grille show that the RX has shifted from being an understated part of the Little League parking lot to a more extroverted design player. But don’t let its new edginess confuse the picture. You’ll still find a quiet and comfortable cabin, effortless power delivery, a smooth ride, and a tastefully done interior fit and finish. The hybrid version gets an impressive 29 mpg overall. It’s not a taut, high-performance machine of the German school; it lacks that razor-crisp handling, steering feedback, and sharp brakes. But what the RX does focus on—coddling well-heeled customers with reliable calmness—it does well.

Lexus Lexus

Best Sports Car Under $40K: Mazda MX-5 Miata

Nobody packs more fun-per-dollar into a pint-sized package than Mazda. The MX-5 Miata combines lithe, precise handling with a crisp manual stick shift and a zoomy engine—that gets an enviable 34 mpg—to create the perfect car for the enthusiast driver and weekend racer. An easy-to-stow soft top is the clincher. It’s reliable, too. With its jumpy, firm suspension, loud cabin, and tight quarters for taller drivers, the Miata isn’t a commuter car. But given a sunny day and a winding road, none of that matters. We love this car, and that's why it's one of our 10 Top Picks.

Read our complete Mazda MX-5 Miata road test .

Mazda Mazda

Best Large Car: Chevrolet Impala

Long relegated to the inglorious life of airport rental fleets, the newest version of the Impala puts the competition in its rearview mirror. It proves an American automaker knows how to make an outstanding car for the masses. The Impala is dynamic and comfortable, combining a cushy ride with responsive handling, beating some elite luxury sedans at their own game. The controls are refreshingly intuitive, without resorting to overcomplicated interfaces. There’s enough cabin space to fit five with plenty of elbow and leg room. Trust us: It’s impressively good.

Read our complete Chevrolet Impala road test .

Chevrolet Chevrolet

Best Midsized SUV: Kia Sorento

This is a great SUV hiding in plain sight. Most midsized crossovers often feel like uninspiring errand runners. But the Sorento offers class-above elegance at mainstream prices. It’s a shade smaller than its midsized competitors, but that allows the Sorento to be city-friendly while still offering the space and features of a larger vehicle. The smooth 290-hp V6 is responsive with competitive fuel economy, and the suspension absorbs the worst bumps and ruts with dignity while still giving you confidence in corners. The interior design is flat-out gorgeous. Well-above-average predicted reliability combines with good crash-test results. There’s a new king of the category.

Read our complete Kia Sorento road test .

Best Pickup Truck: Ford F-150

Is aluminum body construction macho enough for a big truck? You bet. By eschewing traditional steel body panels, Ford created a pickup that weighs less, enabling it to be quick off the line and fuel-efficient. The 2.7-liter turbo V6 has more grunt than truck traditionalists may expect. And it gets 1 mpg better than a comparable Chevy, which adds up over the life of a truck. The cabin is extremely quiet and spacious, with large windows and relatively narrow windshield pillars to aid outward visibility. The intuitive Sync 3 infotainment system is a welcome update from the bogged-down MyFord Touch setup. Top-notch crash-test results and the best predicted reliability of any domestic truck make the F-150 a solid workhorse and one of 2016's 10 Top Picks.

Read our complete Ford F-150 road test .

Best Minivan: Toyota Sienna

Most people don’t dream of minivans, but the Sienna is super-reliable transport with all of the modern features an active, connected family would want. Its spacious and multifunctional interior, with available seating for eight, mates well with the Sienna’s magic carpet ride and energetic powertrain. Available all-wheel drive removes the excuse for buying a less practical SUV. Let the neighbors poke gentle fun at your capitulation to family realities. Soon enough, they’ll be begging to borrow your Sienna to make a Home Depot run.

Boat of the Year Finalists 2016

  • By Kevin Falvey
  • Updated: December 12, 2016

Regal’s 29 OBX wasn’t the only boat in consideration for Boat of the Year. Our selection process is ongoing; as each of our editors and contributors test boats that they feel deserve consideration — boats that stand out above the others in their category — a list is created, and discussion and debate occurs. The list is eventually winnowed down to a select few. Besides the Regal 29 OBX, here are this year’s finalists, in alphabetical order.

Boat of the Year: Beneteau Swift Trawler 30

Beneteau Swift Trawler 30 This boat impressed Boating ‘s Tech Team by combining the seaworthiness and voluminous accommodations of a top-notch trawler with the performance and high-style luxury of an express cruiser.

Standout Features: An emergency tiller steering system; transom gates; retractable dinghy davits.

Boat of the Year: Carbon Marine Paragon Super Sport 28

Carbon Marine Paragon Super Sport 28 The first-ever boat constructed of fully exposed carbon fiber, this boat is light and strong; as a result, it boasted phenomenal fuel economy, delivering over 2 mpg at 51 mph.

Standout Features: The carbon laminate possesses twice the strength-to-weight ratio of fiberglass boats; every fitting and fixture is top-of-the-line and gorgeous.

Boat of the Year: Monterey 378 SE

Monterey 378 SE The 378 SE likely has the most livable berths and head in any open-bow day cruiser available today. Yet, this 9-ton beauty proved quick and nimble under power. It looks great and pays better attention to detail than most.

Standout Features: Runs rough water as soft as a fish boat; integral tablet navigation; signature cockpit arrangement is most versatile.

Boat of the Year: Pursuit S408

Pursuit S408 This big center console offers bluewater readiness and luxury with fewer compromises than aboard similar craft. Pursuit’s build quality is second to none, and even our seasoned testers were wowed by the luxury fitments installed.

Standout Features: Patent-pending transom-reinforcement system; standard diesel genset; the helm station is glare-free, ergonomic, serviceable and functional.

2016 Motorcycle Of The Year

Motorcycle of the Year Winner: Triumph Bonneville platform

2016 motorcycle of the year

Triumph ’s efforts at reinventing the Bonneville platform (which includes the Street Twin and Thruxton along with the T120 Bonneville ) deserve huge kudos. It’s one thing to create a terrific new motorcycle that meets contemporary emissions and performance standards, but it’s another to do so while making the bikes look almost like they stepped out of a showroom from 50 years ago. They appear more authentically retro than the previous air-cooled generation, which is a massive accomplishment for bikes with contemporary liquid-cooled motors.

Redesigning this platform from the ground up was obviously a massive undertaking for Triumph, and all those efforts are proudly on display from first look to first ride. The fit and finish is excellent and makes us think that manufacturing the bikes in Thailand isn’t much – if any – of a penalty relative to building them at Triumph’s home base in England. Not only does the trio work well on the road, they also have a way of connecting emotionally with riders, helping bridge the gap back to Triumph’s historic glory years while never leaking oil or hatching the old Prince of Darkness electrical issues of bygone Lucas equipment.

2016 motorcycle of the year

We were highly impressed with the new Bonneville after riding it at its launch , and its sister, the new Thruxton, proved to be more exciting than expected from this air-cooled-appearing parallel-Twin platform. The Street Twin lies at the lower end of the lineup, but it also has stellar attributes and soundly trounced its rivals in this shootout . Amazingly, each of these new Triumphs has a personality distinct from the others.

The Street Twin is a classy and eminently manageable roadster, earning our Best Standard MOBO this year for its appealing coolness-per-dollar ratio. The Bonneville is a carefully manufactured modern icon that’s faster and better handling than the outgoing Bonneville without any gauche indication of its increased performance. The Thruxton is the cafe-racer version of the standard Bonneville with lower handlebars and the “High Power” version of the Bonnie’s parallel-Twin, looking the part of a ’60s-era cafe bike right down to its tank strap and Manx-style fuel cap.

This impressive new platform is of critical importance to Triumph’s future success, and not just because of these three bikes already on offer. There’s also a 900cc Bonneville T100 and Street Cup still on the way, not to mention the upcoming Scrambler . So, for the significance to Triumph’s long-term strategy and for their inevitable impact on the market, this new lineup of retro roadsters deserves our recognition as the most important additions to the world of motorcycles in 2016.

Motorcycle of the Year Honorable Mention: Aprilia Tuono 1100

2016 motorcycle of the year

MO ’s love for the Tuono goes back more than a decade, as it was love at first ride when we caned it in 2002 . It was exactly what we had hoped for from a naked and upright superbike – with the full monty of performance, not detuned and decontented like its period rivals. And that formula continues to reap dividends for Aprilia , as the V-4 Tuono 1100 proves to be one of the best sporting motorcycles ever created.

And we can say that confidently because we’ve put Tuonos to the test time after time after time. It slapped down a Speed Triple and MV in a 2012 comparison , and declaring our 2014 streetfighter champ had to wait until we were able to include a Tuono against BMW’s S1000R and KTM’s Super Duke , both which had previously vanquished other class rivals . The Tuono came up short that time around, but Aprilia gave it several significant upgrades the next year , forcing a rematch with the KTM , which had become our 2014 Motorcycle of the Year because of its stunning combination of accommodating ergonomics mixed with incredible performance and versatility.

2016 Ultimate Streetfighter Shootout

The shootout linked above between the $17,399 KTM and the $17k Tuono Factory couldn’t have been closer, with less than one-tenth of 1% between them in our scorecard. The Tuono gets the nod over the KTM on balance because it’s also available in $14,800 RR form, which has nearly equal performance to its high-end brother. Thrilling on the street, it’s also almost surely the quickest bike among streetfighters around a racetrack.

More recently we had the good fortune of riding a Tuono Factory with other naked sportbikes to Monterey and back for the World Superbike races at Laguna Seca. We feared the Aprilia’s hard edges would’ve started cutting after three long days on the road, but the highly engaging Italian thunder always had a line of very willing participants who wanted yet another crack at it, and it scored highest among our editors despite being docked points for its higher price. The updates in 2015 made the Tuono more comfortable and usable while raising its performance bar to stratospheric levels.

2016 motorcycle of the year

There are dozens of reasons to love the Tuono, but every conversation about it will include loving, yearning descriptions of one of the best and most soulful powerplants ever bolted between two wheels. Its V-4 sings an operatic MotoGP tune that surely brings a tear to the eyes of Honda engineers who were assigned to build nice parallel-Twins instead of another fierce V-4. Just the sound of its ignition is enough to increase a gearhead’s heart rate, and it just keeps getting better as it stretches for its 160 horsepower and 12,000 rpm. In fact, its 1077cc mill is vastly superior in street situations to any liter-sized sportbike motor, with the Tuono punching out power sooner and deeper.

We all really appreciate when a sportbike not only ticks all the typical sportbike boxes but also inflames desire in our hearts and in our dreams. That’s why it’s our 2016 Streetfighter/Hooligan of the Year , and why it nearly won our Motorcycle of the Year. We can’t get enough of this wonderfully wicked ultra-fighter, and it inspires lustful thoughts of ownership. That’s a genuine endorsement from the MO crew.

Jeff Jarrett Rings In On Motor City Machine Guns’ Legacy in TNA

The rock demanded $2 million in first contract renegotiation with wwe, aew dynamite was nearly sold out, a faction led by deonna purrazzo on the way.

The Motor City Machine Guns departed TNA Wrestling in March of this year and recently signed a deal with WWE.

As we previously reported here on eWn, the current plan is to have Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin debut in a tag team match during WWE NXT’s Chicago debut on October 1.

On a recent edition of his “My World” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett discussed the Motor City Machine Guns’ importance to TNA Wrestling.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On the Motor City Machine Guns’ importance to TNA:  “I’ve been excited to talk about this topic, because — if you’re a fan of wrestling, to hear these guys stories, and we’re going to get into it. But just kind of a correction right off the top: yes, I was responsible for bringing them in TNA. But they actually formed as a team for the first time I guess officially, it was in Japan. But they had instant chemistry, and that kind of morphed into [what they became].

“But man, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin were two guys that were — I’ll call them X Division super, super standouts. And so this topic is going to be fun to talk about, to kind of hear how they started, how they got together, and then the success. And really, when you look about the history of — I call it the TNA years, and I know we’re into some new TNA years. And I’m saying that before it became Impact Wrestling. How integral they were to, really, the X Division, and then to the tag division. Those guys, super talented man, super super talented.”

On his first impression of Sabin and Shelley : “I’ll say the recommendations from him — not only Scott D’Amore but another talent —- they’re like, ‘Yeah, this guy [Shelley]’s pretty damn good. He’s really crisp,’ would be maybe a word. Or, ‘He can do chain wrestling. He can do chain and mat wrestling, and he could just do this style. You ought to take a look at him.’ Those are the type words that I heard. And when you hear it from enough folks — because I’ll say this. When you hear different pitches from different guys, and I heard so many in those early days. This is the thing that can kind of get you, I don’t know, cynical. What’s behind it? Why does this guy want this guy in, and this and that, and what’s the motivation? But Alex and Chris were both guys who had just come highly recommended for their in-ring work. Nothing more, nothing less.”

MOTOR TREND Announces 2016 "Of The Year" Winners

LOS ANGELES , Nov. 16, 2015 --Today, for the first time in the brand's 66-year history, MOTOR TREND announced winners of the Golden Calipers for Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, SUV of the Year, and Person of the Year at a red-carpet gala in front of an audience of industry insiders and celebrity guests. The awards show was also streamed live on the MOTOR TREND Channel on YouTube, with 3.5 million subscribers the world's largest automotive video channel, and on MOTOR TREND OnDemand, the brand's new subscription video on demand (SVOD) channel. A replay of the event broadcast is available for free at motortrendondemand.com.

"What an amazing evening! We made history tonight with our announcements of Car, Truck, SUV, and Person of the Year," says Edward Loh , editor-in-chief ofMOTOR TREND. "We are honored to present these coveted awards to the well-deserving winners."

All vehicular "Of the Year" contenders were selected by MOTOR TREND judges and evaluated against six key criteria: advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value, and performance of intended function. The Person of the Year was chosen from MOTOR TREND's annual Power List of the automotive industry's 50 most influential people.

The awards in detail:

2016 MOTOR TREND Car of the Year Winner: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro

Fifteen all-new or significantly updated cars were eligible for MOTOR TREND'S2016 Car of the Year award. After a week of instrumented testing at Hyundai's California Proving Grounds, seven finalists were selected: Audi TT, BMW 7 Series, Chevrolet Camaro, Honda Civic, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mercedes-Benz GT S, and Toyota Mirai. These vehicles were then subjected to hundreds of miles of real-world road loops before MOTOR TREND's nine judges voted the all-new Chevrolet Camaro the 2016 MOTOR TREND Car of the Year.

Based on General Motor's stellar Alpha platform architecture, the completely redesigned sixth-generation Camaro is sharper looking inside and out and has the latest in technology, including Apple CarPlay and 4G LTE Wi-Fi. It's a car built for driving enthusiasts, one that is hundreds of pounds lighter than the previous generation and available with a new, high-tech, turbocharged 275-horsepower four-cylinder engine, a sporty, yet fuel-efficient 335-horsepower V-6, or a blistering 455-horsepower V-8.

"Our 2016 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Camaro, is one of the finest driving vehicles in the world at any price," said Loh, "though its price is well within reach of the average consumer."

2016 MOTOR TREND Truck of the Year Winner: 2016 Chevrolet Colorado

After a week of on-road and off-road evaluation, plus instrumented testing with payloads and trailers attached, MOTOR TREND judges named the Chevrolet Colorado the 2016 MOTOR TREND Truck of the Year for the second year in a row. The 2016 Colorado stood out from a field of six finalists for its effortless performance in every towing, payload, and driving test MOTOR TREND's judges threw its way. Even when loaded with hundreds of pounds of payload, towing thousands of pounds, or climbing steep grades, the Colorado felt calm and relaxed.

For 2016 Colorado features an optional class-exclusive 2.8-liter inline-four Duramax diesel, which gives it best-in-class towing of 7,700 pounds and phenomenal fuel economy; 31 mpg highway according to the EPA test cycle.

"Our Truck of the Year is not only stylish and capable on-road and off, it recorded the highest fuel economy numbers we've ever seen, when equipped with its class-exclusive diesel engine," said Jason Cammisa , senior features editor and presenter of the award.

2016 MOTOR TRENDSUV of the Year Winner: Volvo XC90

For the first time ever, there were more SUVs in contention for SUV of the Year than cars for Car of the Year, a fact that speaks to the caliber of this year's competition. After days of on-road and off-road evaluation, our judges pared a field of 16 all-new or significantly updated SUVs to five finalists. Longer drive loops and closer inspection confirmed the 2016 MOTOR TREND SUV of the Year to be the Volvo XC90.

The XC90 impressed with its all-new chassis and powerful, yet efficient, gasoline and hybrid powertrains. MOTOR TRENDjudges also gave the XC90 high marks for its stunning exterior and interior design and full complement of high-technology entertainment and safety features.

"The Volvo XC90 is one of the most handsome SUVs on the road," said Jonny Lieberman , MOTOR TREND senior features editor, SUV of the Year judge, and presenter of the award. "And it's as capable off-road as it is a delight to drive on-road; seven-passenger people movers aren't supposed to drive like this."

2016 MOTOR TREND Person of the Year Winner: Thomas Doll , Subaru of America President and Chief Operating Officer

Since his start at Subaru in 1982, Doll has transformed the Subaru brand from a once-quirky car company to a now mainstream lifestyle choice, amplifying Subaru's focus on affordable, well-equipped, and quietly capable symmetrical all-wheel-drive cars and crossovers.

Under Doll's leadership, Subaru of America is entering its eighth year of consecutive record sales and has tripled its U.S. sales since 2007. Subaru of America is expected to reach close to 600,000 sales in 2015, with only a lack of inventory preventing the company from selling more. Doll has led the company from 19th in industry sales to the top 10, now outselling brands such as VW, Mazda, BMW, and Buick.

"By any measure, the business Tom Doll leads is an outstanding success," said Angus MacKenzie , MOTOR TREND editor-at-large and chief content officer for TEN: The Enthusiast Network. "And he is the person whose unique vision and quiet leadership made it happen."

Teamsters union declines to endorse in presidential election, breaking decades of precedent

The Teamsters on Wednesday declined to endorse a candidate for president , the first time in decades that the union hasn't backed a candidate in the presidential election.

"Neither major candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business," Teamsters General President Sean O'Brien said in a statement.

He added, "We sought commitments from both [former president Donald] Trump and [Vice President Kamala] Harris not to interfere in critical union campaigns or core Teamsters industries—and to honor our members’ right to strike—but were unable to secure those pledges."

The union's decision comes two days after senior leaders met with Harris as they weighed whom to endorse.

The Teamsters, which represents truck drivers, freight workers and others, held similar meetings with Trump  and  President Joe Biden  when he was still seeking re-election.

The union, which at 1.3 million members is one of the largest in the world, collected input on an endorsement from its members through straw polling and a QR poll from a code printed on a union magazine, a vice president at large of the union, John Palmer, said.

On Wednesday, the union released the results of i t s s urvey , which was conducted after Biden dropped out of the race. It found that almost 60% of rank-and-file union members preferred to endorse Trump, while 34% backed Harris, according to an electronic member poll. A phone poll indicated similar findings, with 58% supporting Trump and 31% supporting Harris.

The union has not released the number of poll participants or the margin of error.

The Teamsters have for decades endorsed Democratic presidential candidates. The union supported Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020. It also backed Barack Obama in both of his presidential runs , John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000.

In an email Wednesday, the Trump campaign highlighted the Teamsters polling.

"While the Teamsters Executive Board is making no formal endorsement, the hardworking members of the Teamsters have been loud and clear— they want President Trump back in the White House!" said campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt in a statement. "These hardworking men and women are the backbone of America and President Trump will strongly stand up for them when he’s back in the White House."

Trump told reporters Wednesday that the union's decision not to endorse a candidate was "a great honor."

"The Teamsters carry a lot of weight. The Democrats cannot believe it," Trump said. "Look, it was always automatic that Democrats get the Teamsters, and they said, 'We won’t endorse the Democrats this year,' so that was an honor for me."

Harris campaign spokesperson Lauren Hitt pointed to local Teamsters chapters that endorsed the vice president.

“The Vice President’s strong union record is why Teamsters locals across the country have already endorsed her — alongside the overwhelming majority of organized labor,” Hitt said in a statement. “As the Vice President told the Teamsters on Monday, when she is elected president, she will look out for the Teamsters rank-and-file no matter what — because they always have been and always will be the people she fights for.”

Over the course of his presidency, Biden has promoted his support for organized labor and has frequently weighed in on disputes between union workers and corporate leaders. In 2021, he expressed support for the right to unionize in a direct-to-camera video as Amazon workers in Alabama were about to vote on whether to organize.

Then-Teamsters President James P. Hoffa in 2021 credited Biden with including an $83 billion pension-fund bailout in the American Rescue Plan Act, which boosted the Teamsters' Central States pension fund.

In 2023, Biden became the first sitting president to join a picket line when he visited striking autoworkers in Michigan.

But despite calling himself “the most pro-union President leading the most pro-union administration in American history,” Biden drew criticism from organized labor two years ago when he worked with Congress to pass a law that averted an impending rail strike .

The law forced union workers to accept a union contract that had been brokered by the Biden administration. At the time, four of the 12 unions involved had rejected the deal.

As he signed the legislation, Biden called it “a tough [vote] for me,” but cited the need “to keep the supply chains stable around the holidays.”

The International Association of Fire Fighters is the most prominent union that has not yet endorsed a presidential candidate this year. The union endorsed Biden in 2020.

The AFL-CIO, which represents dozens of unions and millions of workers, and the United Auto Workers union have each endorsed Harris.

Transportation Costs Slow Inflation for First Month Since July 2023

In August 2024, transportation dampened inflation by 8.1%, for the first time since July 2023, due to year-over-year declines in the price for most transportation goods and services (Figure 1). Motor vehicle insurance, however, continued to positively contribute to inflation, at 17.6% in August 2024 – the greatest contribution since July 2016 (with records beginning in 2012). Excluding motor vehicle insurance, transportation would have dampened inflation by 25.7% in August 2024. Motor vehicle maintenance and repair and motor vehicle fees also positively contributed to inflation in August 2024 but to a lesser extent at 2.0% and 0.6%, respectively.

SOURCE: U.S. Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Statistics' calculations from U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Consumer Price Index, available at www.bls.gov/cpi as of September 13, 2024.

Motor vehicle insurance became the top transportation contributor to inflation in December 2022 and as of August 2024, remains the top contributor. From June 2021, when transportation costs reach an all-time high and contributed the most on record to inflation, to November 2022, gasoline contributed more to inflation than any other transportation good or service. In 4 of the 18 months from June 2021 through November 2022, the contribution of used cars and trucks to inflation differed from the contribution of gasoline by less than 2 percentage points, making used cars and trucks the second largest transportation contributor to inflation.

Justin cooper re-signs with star racing yamaha in one-year deal for 2025.

Justin Cooper confirmed he has renewed with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing for 2025 to compete alongside Eli Tomac and Cooper Webb. Cooper has raced with the team since he turned professional in 2017.

Cooper ran a handful of 450 races in the 2023 Monster Energy Supercross (SX) series before returning to the 250 division for the Pro Motocross campaign, and has shown consistent development in the premier class this year. Earning top-10s in five of the first seven SX races, he scored his first top-five in Birmingham, Alabama. He swept the top 10 in his next seven races and came one position short of winning the SX season finale in Salt Lake City.

“Just one more year with them for now,” Cooper said on Steve Matthes’s PulpMX podcast . “It’s been a really good year. They’re pleased, I’m pleased. We have a good base going into next year. It’s been all good, no reason not to do it again.”

While this is a one-year deal for now, it is notable that Tomac will leave the team at the end of 2025 , creating additional space in the Star Racing hauler.

Cooper was immediately successful in the Pro Motocross outdoor series, scoring his first podium in his third start. He was third at Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colorado. He finished in the top 10 overall in 11 rounds and worse than sixth only once.

Cooper finished fourth in the 2024 Pro Motocross championship as a rookie and has one moto top-five in the SuperMotocross World Championship this year.

Cooper crashed heavily in the first moto at Texas Motor Speedway but is expected to mount for the season finale in Las Vegas, Nevada, this week.
