A GRACEFUL PALACE ON WATER WITH A HISTORY OF OVER 100 YEARS

A graceful vintage, Halas 71 is one of the most precious historic treasures of Istanbul. Built in 1914 as a passenger ferry by the Fairfield Shipping Co. in Glasgow, Great Britain, this beautiful motor yacht has served as part of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in the World War One before returning to the Turkish Republic to become a passenger ferry. She is now a highly sophisticated coastal cruiser with 12 elegantly decorated cabins and a crew of 16, available for chartering and special celebrations.

Halas 71 has a long and rich history which runs parallel to that of the final years of the Ottoman Empire and the founding of the Turkish Republic.

Initially called Reshid Pasha and purchased in March of 1914 by the Ottoman Government, for strategic reasons relating to the ongoing World War I, the British Government refused to allow her delivery. In November of the same year seized her and changed her name to the Waterwich. Then she was sent to Gallipoli.

It was only after the signing of the Armistice of Mudros in 1918 at the end of WWI that she arrived in Turkish waters. However, for the first four years she was in Turkey, during the Allied occupation following WWI, she was used by the British Allied Headquarters. On 6 October 1923, she was handed over to the newly established Republic of Turkey and her name was officially changed to Halas, meaning deliverance. Halas 71 was used as a passenger ferry on the Bosphorus for 65 years. She was the largest ferryboat with a capacity of 1053 passengers in summer and 961 passengers in winter.

In 1984, Halas 71 was bought by the Turkish publisher Haldun and his wife Çiğdem Simavi who rescued Halas 71 from the wreckers yard and refitted her as a 15 cabin luxury cruiser. In 2008 she was handed over to Mustafa and Caroline Koç who put her her through a two-year total renovation. She now has 12 cabins and is available for charters as a luxury cruiser and for special events and day cruises on the Bosphorus in winter, with a crew of 16 people.

Since 1988 she is a fully-licensed luxury coastal cruiser available in Istanbul and along the southern and western coastlines of Turkey. Halas 71 has hosted numerous international VIPs including members of the British Royal Family ranging from Prince Charles, Princess Margaret, the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, former French President François Mitterand, former US Presidents George Bush, Bill Clinton, then the First Lady Hillary Clinton as well as former Turkish presidents Turgut Özal, Süleyman Demirel and Abdullah Gül.

The rich and long story of HALAS 71

The yacht was built in 1914 by the British for the Ottoman Empire, however, the ship never made it to the empire because of the World War I. Instead, the British government used the ship named Waterwich at that time in Gallipoli.

Only in 1923, she became a truly Turkish boat after being used by the British Allied Headquarters. The same year the ship was named HALAS. For the next 65 years, it served as a passenger ferry on the Bosphorus carrying thousands of passengers daily.

In 1984 the famous Turkish publisher Haldun and Cigdem Simavi gave to the yacht a second life by purchasing it and transferring it into a 15-cabin luxury cruiser. The ship was literally rescued from the wreckers yard. HALAS became a top private luxury yacht in Istanbul.

In 2008 the cruiser got new owners. Famous Turkish Koc family, Mustafa and Caroline, purchased the yacht and put her through a major refit. In two year HALAS was transferred into a more luxurious yacht with 12 cabins that can be chartered for special events and luxury yachting holidays in Istanbul and Turkey.

Over the years LAHAS 71 hosted VIP guests from around the world including former US Presidents, George Bush and Bill Clinton, former French President Francois Mitterand, and members of the British Royal Family - Prince Charles, Princess Margaret, the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

Today you can charter the yacht in Istanbul or hire the boat in Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye. RATE DETAILS

Rate includes.

The Charter Fee includes the charter of the yacht with all its equipment in working order, tools, stores, cleaning materials, basic consumable stores for engine-room, deck and cabins etc.; the crew's wages, food; the insurance of the yacht for marine risk and third party claims and the crew for employer's liability.

RATE EXCLUDES

VAT according to the cruising area

Advanced provisioning allowance (APA): the charterer is charged extra, at cost, for the charter expenses: fuel for the yacht, RIB or other tenders; food, soft drinks, wines, beers, spirits for the charterer, other consumable stores, berthing dues and other harbour charges away from the yacht's own berth, including pilotage fees and charges for water and electricity taken from the shore, laundry, telephone, fax or telex via radio or Inmarsat, as well as the hire costs of any special equipment placed on board at the request of the charterer. 25-40% APA is given to the yacht prior to the charter to allow the captain to buy fuel and provision the yacht as per the charterer's demands. At the end of the charter, the captain presents full accounts of all expenditure. The charterer is either refunded any money not used or asked to pay any additional costs not covered by the APA.

Her delivery was withheld by the British Government when she was requisitioned into service as the service ship ‘Waterwitch’ in World War 1. She remained as a passenger ferry on the Bosphorus until 1984, accommodating up to 1053 people. She was then purchased as a luxury private cruising yacht and refitted, with a further refit in 2010. Motor yacht HALAS can now accommodate up to 24 yacht charter guests, in 12 double cabins. She now charters around Istanbul and along with Southern Western Coastline of Turkey.

Crewed charter yacht HALAS features a period décor, of refined elegance and opulence. Offering a spacious lounge, with well-appointed brass wrapped wet bar, private library and fine dining for up to 60 guests, M/Y HALAS boasts an impressive interior layout and fabulous entertaining venue. The social areas are flanked by large windows, as are the guest cabins, allowing for optimum viewing and ample natural light. The finest in joinery and fabrics enhance the yachts allure; she is a true marvel in historical features, retaining much of the originality seen in the era of her launch.

Exterior living is on a luscious teak upper deck, ideal for socializing and entertaining, offering a large sunbathing area, covered alfresco dining space that can seat up to 42 guests, full wet bar with seating, plush sun pads and idyllic views.

HALAS 71 Specifications

Upon request, the HALAS crew can arrange for a hairdresser to come onboard and work out of the specially-equipped hairdressing room. Two elliptical cross trainers are also available for cardiovascular exercise and can be moved on deck if desired. In addition, a selection of weights and Yoga mats are available.

Powered by 2 x CAT 540hp engines, the HALAS yacht cruises at 13 knots.

Presented by DMA Yachting, the astonishing charter yacht HALAS 71 is a 171 ft motor yacht. HALAS 71 spends the summer season in Greece. She was completed by recognized shipbuilder . in 1914. A succesful refit was fulfilled in 2016. The well-planned yacht layout features 12 cozy cabins and easily accommodates up to 24 guests.

HALAS 71 is classified as a superyacht. The generously sized aft deck is right next to the the heart of the yacht - the main saloon. The main saloon is a friendly space to spend time when the aft deck might not be as desirable (at port, private conversations) and serves as a location of entertainment. 12 elegant cabins are purposefully laid out with vison for maximum room, access, comfort and privacy.

The motor yacht features Engines: 2 * 375 hp Caterpillar Generators: 1 * 142 KW Caterpillar & 1 * 159.9 KW Deere engines .

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). HALAS’ colourful history begins in 1914 when she was purchased by the British Government. However due to the outbreak of World War I, the British Government refused to allow her delivery.  She arrived in Turkish waters in 1918. In 1923 her name was officially changed to HALAS (meaning deliverance), and she was used as a passenger ferry on the Bosphorus for 65 years. 1984 saw her sold into the private sector and converted into a luxury cruiser.  From 2008 to 2010 she was entirely and extensively renovated, and since this time she has been serving as a fully–licensed luxury coastal cruiser available in Istanbul and along the south-western coastline of Turkey.

With her idyllic setting and impeccable services, HALAS offers the perfect atmosphere for exclusive weddings or corporate events for up to 120 people. 12 luxuriously appointed cabins accommodate up to 24 guests, while the principal indoor dining room can seat up to 60 people, with additional outdoor space for another 42 people. Her weekly tariff includes full board and beverages like soft drinks and water. Fuel, berthing dues, harbour charges, alcoholic beverages, customs formalities, charges for water and electricity taken from shore, and agent’s fees are at charterer’s expense. Any additional guests invited for a meal will be charged additionally.

This classic example of a Jack Hargrave designed Hatteras motor yacht is in very good condion for her pampered service since 1996. Her four stateroom four head layout, full beam salon, enclosed fly bridge with hardtop, and forward exterior decks make her open and roomy. 

Powered by 12 V 92 electronic Detroit Diesels coupled to ZF gears. She is economical at displacement speeds yet capable of planing speeds of 20 knots. Bow and stern thrusters and NAIAD stabilizers make operating her smooth and pleasurable. Twin Onan 21.5 KW generators provide ample power while away from shore anchored at your favorite cove with an abundance of water supplied by your Cruise/RO 60 GPH watermaker!

PORT main hours 2748 ( appx. 1500 SMOH) STBD main hrs 2813    ( appx 300 SMOH ) . Fwd Gen hours 1912.5 Aft Gen hours 2411.5 All have just undergone complete services. Oil, with synthetic blend in the mains, filters, fuel filters, racors, impellers, and zinc’s. Both generators also had heat exchangers rebuilt and new belts installed. Carry On is currently moored in one of Bay St Louis Marina’s premier slips. This slip has been customized and is assumable. Delivery is available.

This is a highlight of the major upgrades done under current ownership. It is by no means a complete list of improvements.

-A/C System Upgrades Remove factory strainers from under mid-cabin floor and install larger thru hull valves and larger strainers in the engine room. Fabricate all new manifolds both intake and discharge of schedule 80 pvc at the compressors with new hoses, and both circulating pumps being rebuilt. New a/c compressor was installed for the Galley. New Flagship Marine all in one ac units with heat strips were installed in the forward and mid staterooms. These units eliminate the reversing valve and the compressor running on the heat cycle extending their life span.

- Machinery Space Replaced the bulky air compressor with new compact ultra-quiet aluminum air compressor by California Air. This was installed on a new shelf over the transformers creating extra space.

- Removed old storage box from floor and moved the generator wet mufflers back creating more accessibility to the engine space.

- Updated black water sewage system, by eliminating the overboard discharge thru hull valves with new hoses straight to the holding tank. The thru hulls were then capped. The pump for the bunk room head was moved into the machinery space from under forward bunk to minimize the length of run. The pump out and vent hoses were also replaced at this me.

- Electronics, A major electronic upgrade was completed in 2020. This included a new Garmin 8616 XSV touchscreen in pilot house, Garmin 8624 GPS on flybridge, SIMRAD 8648 autopilot, and Garmin 18-mile radar dome. Eight new high-resolution cameras and a monitor were installed with enhanced night vision on the forward and the center units.

- Hall Out 2021 Wet blasted old bottom paint and repaired fourteen blisters. Applied two new coats of bottom paint, three from the chine to the water line. Removed stabilizer fins to install new seals. The five forward pilot house windows were removed and resealed. Additionally, stress cracks in the vertical supports were repaired and the area was repainted.

- Misc Improvements 2022-2023 New canvas installed on deck chairs. New isinglass/canvas surround installed on fly bridge. Replaced battery charger with new three bank electronic unit and four new starting batteries. Rebuilt steering cylinder. Replaced fresh water pump. Rebuilt Hatteras systems monitor board. And yes, we have every receipt down to every nut and bolt! Many of the previous owner’s records are also on board. As is, all the factory supplied manuals including the blueprints.

The 67' Hatteras Cockpit Motoryacht features a 3 stateroom, 3 head, full beam galley down layout with a spacious aft deck and over-sized factory cockpit.

The forward stateroom features upper/lower berths, hanging locker, recent television, head and shower.

Up two steps is the large U-Shaped galley with dinette. Continuing aft and down is the pantry and laundry with stackable apartment sized washer and dryer.

Further aft, the guest stateroom is to port with a custom queen berth, hanging locker, and recent television. Opposite is the guest head and shower stall.

The master suite also boasts a new flat screen television, window treatments, and refinished wood surfaces. On the main deck you will notice the very tasteful custom etched glass which separates the pilothouse from the salon. The salon features an L-Shaped sofa, coffee table, 2 swivel chairs, end table and large chest of drawers. The window treatments are renewed and the carpeting is fresh. 

The entertainment center include a new flat screen television, Bose surround sound and Sony receiver. All three staterooms have updated TV.

Entering the salon from the aft deck through the hinged door one finds two barrel chairs to starboard and an L-Shaped leather sofa to port. Forward is a 4 place circular dining table and further forward is the helm station which is separated from the living area by an etched glass panel with the TV inset into. Wall to wall carpeting, custom halogen lighting with wood mini-blinds create a warm yet modern look.

Recently upgraded galley features high-end stainless appliances and new teak and holly galley sole. Galley is down from the salon.

There are 3 staterooms, 3 heads.

The master is aft with a centerline King berth. There is a tub shower in the head and a newer Tekma quiet flush head. Newer flat panel TV.

Moving forward past the two engine rooms, one finds the midship guest stateroom to port. Originally this was a twin berth stateroom. It has been modified to a single queen berth mounted athwartship and features a newer flat panel TV. Across to starboard is the guest head that also serves as the day head for the boat. There is a separate shower stall here.

All the way forward is the third stateroom featuring two over under single berths and a private head with a separate shower.

The side decks are covered by the flybridge overhangs, and access is by the two aft wing doors and the port and starboard pilothouse doors. Decks are fiberglass non skid.There is a sun pad for the bow as well as guest seating.

The most popular feature of the vessel may well be the aft deck. It is under the cover of the extended hardtop and features port and starboard wing doors and a center access door leading to the custom ladder to the cockpit.

Forward is a large wet bar with a full sized ice maker, sink and great cabinet storage. There are stereo speakers and a clock and barometer.

By placing the aft door to the cockpit in the center Hatteras has allowed for 2 large matching L-Shaped settees port and starboard each with their own cocktail table.

The salon opens to this area with a swinging door to create on great open space all the way to the lower helm. This aft deck area is further protected by an Eisenglass enclosure.

This is a factory 7' cockpit which is bigger than most others built by Hatteras. Features include cockpit engine controls, a transom door with boarding gate, cockpit coaming pads  and fiberglass non skid decks.There is generous below deck lazarette storage where the spare props and shaft are stored. There is a custom center ladder leading up to the aft deck.

There are matching fiberglass cabinets port and starboard on each side of aft deck ladder. The port side cabinet has the cockpit controls and two cabinet storage areas below. The starboard side has two matching Wolf electric grill tops and two storage cabinets beneath. Between these two there is a Frigibar freezer chest.

Aft there is a hot and cold shower, and a raw water wash down. The fiberglass swim platform has a 4 step dive ladder and receivers for dinghy whip standoffs. There are rod holders in the gunnels.

The flybridge is accessed from the pilothouse by a modern sloping ladder/staircase. The helm is forward and center with 2 Pompanette helm chairs. To starboard is a fiberglass cabinet with storage beneath and a sink on top.

Aft there is a full U-Shaped seating arrangement with full cushions and a fixed table.  Aft of this seating area is the boat deck with a Marquip Dinghy Crane and  Dinghy Chocks (The dinghy is excluded from the sale of the vessel).

Twin 12V-71 TA Detroit Diesels. These are the wet turbo motors with Walker Airseps. Engines are clean and dry and start with minimal smoke. They have been professionally maintained and just recently had a all fuel injectors replaced.
