It’s hard to imagine that changing a staircase can transform the interior of a superyacht , but in the case of the Westport 112, it became the turning point in its new design. The American builder’s entry-level boat is arguably the most successful superyacht in the world. Since it was introduced in 1994, 62 112s have been launched and three others are currently in build. No other yacht has had that kind of staying power or popularity among owners.

Therein lies a dilemma. Changing a superyacht’s look after a long, successful run can be a tricky proposition. But times change, designs come and go, and what was popular in 1994 can seem dated. Fortunately for Westport, American yacht owners tend to be relatively traditional in their tastes. That is, until recently.
“We had potential customers coming up to us with brochures from European builders, asking if we could do this or that with our design,” Alex Rogers, sales director of Westport Yachts , told Robb Report on a recent tour of Book Ends , the latest 112 to hit the water. “It made us rethink the entire design.”
The new interior includes murals to add an element of whimsy to hallways that are typically utilitarian. Courtesy Westport Yachts
Sylvia Bolton, Westport’s in-house designer, sees the design shift in even stronger terms: “ Book Ends is as different as it can be from the last generation without actually changing the layout.”
Westport’s naval architects added larger exterior windows, replacing the rows of portholes along the hull and the main windows in the superstructure, adding three inches to enhance natural light. That gave the exterior a more contemporary look. Bolton decided to go full monty with the interior, without changing the internal structure. Moving bulkheads and shifting spaces can be an expensive, complicated process, especially for a company that built its business model on an assembly-line process where changes translated to big costs for the owner. Besides, the 112’s hull has proven its worth for 27 years.
So, Bolton started with the staircase. “Originally it was a circular staircase with two radiuses extended into the hallway,” she says. “We changed it to a straight staircase. It was amazing how much it opened up that space.”
The country kitchen on the 112 is a favorite gathering point for owners, guests and crew, so the design included a flowing piece of marble on the island and large-screen televisions to add luxury to the galley’s inherent sociability. Courtesy Westport Yachts
Opening space across the interior was a key goal, so Bolton focused on simple things like straightening corners and removing wide cabinets that had been part of the 112’s layout for years. She also modernized the interior with new surfaces, stones and even wall sculptures.
A pair of life-sized reef sharks, extended on a hallway wall, seem to be swimming in a dark-blue coral reef. At the bottom of the stairway on the lower deck is a wall-sized photo of a school of reef fish. Sand dollars on the main salon wall also became part of the new standard design.
“I really like blue and started thinking about sea life,” Bolton says. “I thought it would make a good theme, and most times, clients resonate with them. We also make everything easily removable in case the client doesn’t like it.”

The owner of Book Ends came into the build process late, so he had little choice over the big features in the interior. But he must’ve liked Bolton’s design, because the only thing that changed were the big sand dollars in the salon, which were replaced with bright, colored glass spheres.
The last 112 I’d been on was about ten years ago, and boy, talk about a sea change. Instead of what I remembered as somewhat dated traditional American design, the 112 now had features like leather-covered handles on doors and drawers, a rich Rousseau finish on the oak walls (where the grain runs horizontally) and lots of natural light.
The two areas I liked best weren’t the main salon or main suite, both open and spacious, but the country kitchen and pilot house. Open kitchens have been one of Westport’s hallmarks over the years, showing the difference between European and American owners. Europeans tend to like small galleys where staff are confined to make meals, but the Americans use the kitchen much as they do at home, as social gathering points for owner, guests and crew.
Sweeping marble in the main suite displays the level of quality across the yacht. John Cantu/Westport
Bolton worked within the same layout as previous 112s, but modernized it with new colors and materials, including a beautiful piece of marble that flowed over one side of the galley’s center island and extended to the floor. It was clearly the room’s centerpiece. “Stone is something that we pay particular attention to,” says Bolton. “It’s an accent that can make or break a space. It can take several months to find the right piece, and the right stone can even make you change a design to accommodate it.”
The Calacatta marble down in the main suite’s bath and shower was also exceptional, a flowing, soft-grained stone that filled the space with a subtle luxury. The main bedroom was nice, but the marble ensuite made it extraordinary.
Seeing this new interior changed another perception I’d had about Westports—that the quality wasn’t as strong as some of the brand’s competitors. But I’d confused myself by comparing Westport’s older interiors with more modern European designs. Looking at Book Ends , I could see that the materials—and craftsmanship—were as strong as the European builders, and in some cases, better. It just took a new design to showcase it.
The exterior cockpit area has the same sense of open space as the adjoining salon. Courtesy Westport Yachts
My favorite spot on the 112 was the pilothouse, another large social area, with lounges and big windows surrounding the helm chair and navigation console.
Bolton added subtle touches here by lowering the height of a side lounge to allow more natural light below, while adding a school of swimming fish on the rear wall’s Lucite surface. “Lucite tends be clear during the daylight hours, so you don’t really see the mural,” she says. “But at night, it becomes vivid, and the reflects off the windows as well, so it feels like you’re surrounded by fish.”
The designer used Lucite beneath the stairs to the sky-deck to deliver a floating feel between stairs. “To me, the qualities of the materials are important,” she says. “Each can provide a different finish with a tactile quality that is also important visually. It adds to the boat’s overall feel.”
The new exterior includes larger windows along the superstructure and in the hull sides. Courtesy Westport Yachts
While Book Ends represents the new generation of Westport 112s, it’s just the start. Westport is working on another 112 now where the owners, concerned about sustainability, do not want any material that is not manufactured or recycled—in other words, no leathers, original woods or natural marble. Talk about a sea change .

112’ Westport Yacht Review
In the world of luxury yachts, the name Westport has become synonymous with elegance, craftsmanship, and uncompromising quality. Among its impressive lineup, the 112′ Westport model holds a special place. This magnificent vessel has delighted boating enthusiasts and discerning owners around the world, combining exceptional performance with luxurious amenities. In this blog, we embark on a journey through time to uncover the captivating history of the 112′ Westport model.
Comparing the 112’ Westport to other notable models
The 112’ slots in nicely within the Westport lineup as its 4-stateroom option that can accommodate 8 guests with about 4-5 crew. In comparison, the 125’ and 130’ Westports are the next step up, as they provide accommodations for 10 guests in 5 staterooms with 5-6 crew. While these yachts certainly have the same build quality and timeless design Westport is known for, there is no denying that the 112’ model has had more staying power being in production since 1994, while the larger models have been in production for a shorter period with the 125’ model eventually replacing the 130’ model.
Evolution of the 112' Westport
The 112′ model made its grand debut in the early 1990s, designed to cater to the desires of discerning yacht owners who sought a balance between spaciousness, performance, and luxurious features. With its sleek lines, graceful profile and timeless appeal, this iconic model captured the attention of yachting enthusiasts worldwide.
As of 2022, Westport has delivered a staggering 65 hulls from its Washington state based yard since 1994. This is a testament to the longevity of the model, and how forward-thinking the layout and design are. In 2008, the yard started offering this luxury yacht in an optional layout with a main-deck owner’s stateroom. The classic yacht originally featured an owner’s stateroom, a VIP stateroom, and 2 twin staterooms belowdecks. Additionally, a delightful country kitchen graced the main deck forward. In its new configuration, this vessel continues to provide exceptional accommodations with 4 staterooms below. However, the 4th stateroom has transformed into an upper/lower suite. The owner’s stateroom has been reimagined, occupying the space where the country kitchen once resided, now positioned all the way forward on the main deck. It boasts a spacious head, conveniently located a few steps down under the foredecks, thoughtfully utilizing the area previously occupied by the below-deck owner’s stateroom.
Apart from these enhancements, much remains unchanged in both versions of the vessel. A generously proportioned salon, a dining room, a well-appointed galley, and an open-yet-protected afterdeck adorn the main level, ensuring ample space for relaxation and entertainment. Moreover, the topside and forward areas offer expansive open spaces for leisure activities, ensuring a truly enjoyable experience for all on board.
Unmatched Luxury and Engineering
The 112′ Westport model boasted an array of luxurious features that elevated the onboard experience to new heights. Owners and guests were treated to sumptuous accommodations, stylishly appointed salons, and expansive outdoor spaces for relaxation and entertainment. With a focus on customization, Westport Yachts ensured that each 112′ model reflected the unique tastes and preferences of its owner while maintaining a consistent layout that reduces the yard’s planning and build time.
Beyond its opulent amenities, this yacht delivered exceptional performance on the water. One of the hallmarks of the 112′ Westport model is its exceptional design and engineering. Collaborating with renowned naval architects, Westport Yachts has crafted a vessel that offers the perfect blend of functionality and seaworthiness with a hull design that ensures a smooth ride even in challenging conditions. Powered by robust engines and advanced propulsion systems, these yachts cruise effortlessly at impressive speeds providing a memorable and exhilarating yachting experience. The 112’ Westport also has an impressive 23’ 10” beam, while having a shallow 5’ 6” draft that will allow you to take this yacht through the shallowest of Bahamian waters making this an extremely versatile vessel.
Continued Innovations and Success of the 112’ Westport
Over the years, Westport Yachts continued to refine and enhance the model, incorporating the latest advancements in technology, materials, and design. With each iteration, the yacht evolved, elevating the standards of luxury, and setting new benchmarks in the industry. This commitment to innovation and excellence has solidified Westport Yachts’ reputation as a leading yacht manufacturer. Today, the 112’ Westport has stayed true to its original design and layout, while adding a modern flair giving the model a more contemporary look. Westport’s naval architects have added larger exterior windows, which create more natural light throughout the yacht, and adjusted areas within the interior to give the yacht an open feel. These adaptations, while staying true to the original blueprint have made the 112’ Westport a timeless classic in the world of yachting.
The 112’ Westport – An Icon of its Time
This iconic model stands as a testament to Westport Yachts’ unwavering dedication to crafting exceptional yachts that blend performance, luxury, and style. From its humble beginnings as a commercial fishing boat builder, Westport Yachts transformed itself into a global icon of yachting excellence. The 5 tragic minutes that sank a superyacht
PORTICELLO, Italy — Survivors of a storm that sank a superyacht off Sicily recounted their ordeal to one of the doctors who rushed to their aid, with some saying it took mere minutes for the 180-foot ship to go down.
Dr. Fabio Genco, head of the Palermo Emergency Medical Services, told NBC News on the phone Thursday that he arrived in the seaside village of Porticello before dawn Monday, about an hour after the $40 million Bayesian sank in the violent and sudden storm.
Of the 22 people onboard, 15 survived despite storm conditions and darkness, climbing onto a lifeboat before being rescued by a nearby sailboat. The crew members have made no public statements so far, though some have been interviewed by investigators.
“They told me that it was all dark, that the yacht hoisted itself up and then went down,” Genco said, recounting what the survivors told him. “All the objects were falling on them. That’s why I immediately made sure, by asking them questions, if they had any internal injuries,” he said.
It appears they had just minutes to abandon the sinking ship, Genco said.
“They told me that suddenly they found themselves catapulted into the water without even understanding how they had got there,” he said, “And that the whole thing seems to have lasted from 3 to 5 minutes.”
Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, which owns Perini Navi, the Bayesian's shipbuilder, told Sky News that there were no flaws with the design or construction of the yacht. He said their structure and keel made boats like that “unsinkable bodies.”
In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, he disavowed responsibility, blaming instead the actions of the crew. “Mistakes were made,” he said.
Genco said one of his colleagues who arrived at the scene before him initially thought that only three people survived, but the coast guard reported there were other survivors and more emergency services were called in.
When Genco arrived, he found scenes of panic and despair.
“Unfortunately, we are used to such panic scenes because we are used to the shipwrecks that happen on Lampedusa ,” Genco said, referring to the island southwest of Sicily, where the wreckage of boats carrying migrants on the sea journey from North Africa to Italy are often found .
Six of the passengers were declared missing Monday, and by Thursday, the bodies of five had been recovered from the wreck , some 160 feet underwater.
Among those who survived is Angela Bacares, wife of the British tech mogul Mike Lynch , whose body was recovered Thursday.
Another survivor has been identified as Charlotte Emsley, 35. She told the Italian news agency ANSA that she had momentarily lost hold of her year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but managed to retrieve her and hold her over the waves until a lifeboat inflated and they were pulled into safety.
Dr. Domenico Cipolla at the Di Cristina Children’s Hospital in Palermo is also part of a team of medical professionals treating the shipwreck survivors. He told the BBC on Wednesday that Emsley and her daughter, as well as the father of the child, who Cipolla said also survived, are continuing to receive psychological help.
“Psychological support was constant and is constant even today, because basically it is the wounds of the soul that are the most in need of healing in these cases,” Cipolla said.
Genco also told NBC News that he was especially concerned about the child. “She did not understand anything. She was soaking wet and cold,” he said.
Karsten Borner, the Dutch captain of the Sir Robert Baden Powell, a yacht that was anchored near the Bayesian, said by phone Wednesday that he saw a thunderstorm come in at around 4 a.m. local time (10 p.m. ET) Monday, followed by what looked like a waterspout, a type of tornado that forms over water.
The International Centre for Waterspout Research noted on X that there was a “waterspout outbreak” off Italy on Monday, the day the Bayesian sank.
“I turned on the engine and made maneuvers so that we wouldn’t collide with the Bayesian, which was anchored about 100 meters from us,” Borner said. “Then all of a sudden it disappeared. Then the wind calmed down, we looked around and saw a red flare.”
Borner said he got into his boat’s tender and saw a life raft with 15 people on it. Members of the crew were administering first aid.
“I don’t know why it sank so quickly, but it may have something to do with the mast which was incredibly long,” he said. Questions have been raised about whether the mast was to blame for the accident as tall masts, even with the sails down, have more surface area exposed to the wind, which can contribute to tipping a vessel in a storm.
The CCTV footage that emerged Tuesday showed the yacht’s 250-foot mast, believed to be one of the tallest aluminum sailing masts in the world, lashed by the storm as it appears to tilt to one side before disappearing.

Experts puzzle over why Bayesian yacht sank. Was it a 'black swan event'?
The Bayesian set off on a leisurely cruise around Italy's southern coast on a sunny day in late July.
The luxurious super yacht − which boasted one of the largest masts in the world and carried a crew of business moguls, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his family and a chair of Morgan Stanley − set sail from the Amalfi Coast, bound for Sicily.
Less than a month later, the ship had sunk 160 feet under the water , leaving its cook dead and six of its passengers, including at least two Americans, missing and prompting a massive search that has drawn international attention.
Now, experts are trying to piece together why in the early hours Monday the Bayesian was quickly pulled under the waves amid a storm that saw at least one tornado spin up over the water.

A perfect storm led to Bayesian sinking, experts say
The combination of unlikely factors that could have contributed to the ship's fate constituted a "black swan event," Matthew Schanck, chairman of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, told USA TODAY.
The Bayesian was well-built: A 2008 product of Italian ship maker Perini, it was constructed in accordance with international maritime standards and commercially certified by the U.K.'s Maritime and Coastguard Agency, according to Schanck.
The bout of bad weather that swept the area when the ship went down was also out of the ordinary in the northern Mediterranean, "which isn't renowned for prolonged, significant stormy weather," he said.
"The fact that those two elements have then resulted in the foundering of a super yacht is pretty extraordinary," Schanck said. "These things don't happen every day."
After the ship sank just before 5 a.m. local time, 15 people, including a 1-year-old, were pulled from the water. Some were rescued from a life raft by the crew of a ship docked nearby.
Ricardo Thomas, the ship's cook and a native of Antigua, was found dead, according to authorities.
As of Tuesday, six people were missing, including Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter. Several missing passengers were involved in Lynch's trial on fraud charges, including Jonathan Bloomer, a Morgan Stanley chair who served as his character witness, and one of Lynch's attorneys. Lynch, accused of fraud after he sold his company to electronics giant Hewlett-Packard, was acquitted of all charges weeks ago.
Who is Mike Lynch? UK entrepreneur among those missing after superyacht sinks off Sicily
Tornado formed over unusually hot water
Storms in the area that night may have whipped up a water spout, a tornado over the water , according to local meteorologists.
It was likely triggered by the water's unusual warmth, said Rick Shema, a certified consulting meteorologist who served in the Navy.
"The water spout was an uncommon occurrence," he said. "But again, these things happen, especially in warmer water."
At 83.7 degrees, water in the area was more than 3 degrees hotter than average on the day the Bayesian sank, likely the result of climate change, Shema said.
"Hurricanes can form at 80 degrees. This was almost four degrees higher than that," he said.
The water spout may have spun up when cooler air dropped from mountainous places nearby onto the hot water, he said. "A water spout is a vortex, basically like a tornado, spinning real fast, sucking up water and moisture as the column rises," he said.
Although water spouts only reach around 120 mph, as compared with tornadoes on land, which can reach up to 300 mph, "you don't need 200 mph to sink a ship," he said.
"Even an average tornado, 120 miles an hour, that's a lot of wind," he said, "which would heel the boat over for sure."
Water spouts spring up suddenly, Shema said. Before they strike, winds can be slow, but "once the water spout comes over, bam, it's on," he said.
Before sunrise, the ship's crew may not have seen the water spout coming. "The visibility was probably a big factor," he said.
With the windows of the yacht opened, as they likely were in the hot weather, the water spout could have triggered water that flooded through the portholes, Shema said, causing the ship to sink.
Tragedy strikes: Scramble to find survivors after Bayesian yacht sinks off Sicily coast
Search continues, but shift to recovery phase approaches
Italian authorities said the Bayesian was probably at anchor when the storm struck, meaning it couldn't maneuver and ride the waves, according to Mitchell Stoller, a captain and maritime expert witness. Other ships in the area that turned on their engines rode out the storm, he said.
"When you're at anchor and you see weather, you start your engine and you put the wind on the bow. You don't let it get on the side," he said.
Schanck said another key question concerns the position of the keel, a heavy weight underneath the boat that acts as a counterbalance to keep it upright, when the ship sank. When lifted, "that's going to affect the stability of the vessel, because, obviously, you've now raised the center of gravity of that vessel," he said.
The Bayesian was floating over 160 feet of water at the time, deep enough that the keel would likely be deployed. But the fact that "the vessel heeled over so heavily makes me question that," Schanck said.
The cause of the disaster may not be known until the ship can be examined in more detail, experts say. Prosecutors in a nearby town have already opened an investigation.
Schanck said investigators will have plenty to work with once the operation moves into a recovery phase.
"The vessel is intact and in good condition on the seabed," he said. "There's a lot of eyewitness accounts from other vessels in the area and the shore."
As the search entered its second day on Tuesday, the rescue effort may shift in that direction soon. "I suspect, later on, today or tomorrow, we'll probably see some mention of a recovery operation being stated," Schanck said.
The decision to would depend on whether rescuers find signs of life in the ship and air pockets or survivable spaces, Schanck said. At this point, survivors on the water's surface looks unlikely. "My professional opinion is that the casualties will be located within the vessel," he said.
"There is a risk versus benefit in all maritime search and rescue incidents," he said. "Where we start transitioning to a recovery phase, that line shifts."

Deep seas and tight spaces impede search for 6 missing after yacht sinks off Sicily
P olice divers resumed searching Tuesday for six people believed trapped in the hull of a superyacht that sank in deep seas off Sicily, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch, who was celebrating his recent acquittal on fraud charges with the people who had defended him at trial.
The luxury sailboat, off Porticello near Palermo, was some 165 feet underwater — far deeper than most recreational divers are certified for and a depth that requires special precautions. Recovery crews could only stay for 12-minute shifts, a measure that slowed efforts to reach the cramped inside of the wreck.
Divers tag-teamed the shifts and were using a remote-controlled underwater vehicle, or ROV, to help in the search. They hadn't been able to access the below-deck cabins because they were blocked by furniture that shifted during the violent storm that struck the vessel early Monday. Rescue crews said they assume the missing six are in those cabins because the storm struck when most would be sleeping, but the teams haven’t verified their presence there through portholes.
The Bayesian, a 184-foot British-flagged yacht, was moored about half a mile offshore when a storm rolled in before 4 a.m. Monday. Civil protection officials said they believed the ship was struck by a tornado over the water, known as a waterspout.
Grainy film from closed-circuit cameras from shore, broadcast on the website of the Giornale di Sicilia, showed the illuminated 246-foot mast of the Bayesian weathering the storm and then disappearing over the course of a minute.
Fifteen of the 22 people aboard survived, including a mother who reported holding her 1-year-old baby over the waves to save her. One body has been recovered, identified by officials as the on-board chef. The rest of the 10-person crew survived, including the captain, whom prosecutors reportedly sought to interview.
The survivors were rescued by a nearby sailboat after getting into a lifeboat.
Lynch, who was once hailed as Britain’s king of technology, was cleared in June of fraud and conspiracy charges in a U.S. federal trial related to Hewlett Packard’s $11 billion takeover of his company, Autonomy Corp. His wife, Angela Bacares, survived the sinking. Hannah Lynch, the couple’s 18-year-old daughter, is reportedly unaccounted for.
Also unaccounted for are Christopher Morvillo, one of Lynch’s lawyers, and Jonathan Bloomer, a chairman at Morgan Stanley International and the former head of the Autonomy audit committee who testified in Lynch’s defense.
Karsten Borner, the captain of the Sir Robert Baden Powell, which rescued the survivors who managed to get into a lifeboat, said he was close enough to be able to see the Bayesian as the storm came in.
“A moment later, she was gone,” he said. “They said they went flat on the water and were sunk in two minutes," Borner added, quoting the survivors.
Luca Cari, a spokesman for the rescue teams, said the search was proceeding much more slowly than another big shipwreck in Italy, the 2012 Costa Concordia cruise ship that flipped on its side off Tuscany's coast, because of the depth of the wreck and the space divers have to maneuver.
“That was much simpler. Here everything is more tight," he said.
The outing was intended at least in part as a celebration of Lynch's acquittal and a “looking forward to what was coming next,” said Reid Weingarten, a Washington attorney and a member of Lynch’s defense team who was not on the yacht.
Among the survivors, the Emslie-Golunski family was released from Palermo's pediatric hospital on Tuesday. Charlotte Golunski had reported that she momentarily lost hold of her 1-year-old daughter, Sofia, in the water but then managed to hold her up over the waves until they were both pulled to safety, doctors said.
The father, identified by ANSA news agency as James Emslie, also survived.
“They don't talk much, primarily because they consider themselves survivors and they don't understand why they survived given what they went through,” said Dr. Domenico Cipolla, head of the emergency room at Di Cristina pediatric hospital.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Cipolla said the parents had been in touch with other survivors, who are being housed at a nearby hotel and were waiting for other family members to arrive in Sicily.
The Bayesian, built in 2008 by the Italian firm Perini Navi, is registered to Revtom Ltd., according to online maritime database Equasis. Bacares, Lynch's wife, is listed as Revtom's sole owner, according to corporate registration documents from the Isle of Man.
According to online charter companies, it had been available for charter for about $215,000 a week and was notable for its massive aluminum mast, one of the tallest in the world.
The coast guard said to date there was no trace of fuel leaks from the wreckage.
In a separate event, Lynch's co-defendant in the Autonomy trial who was also cleared, Stephen Chamberlain, was killed Sunday when he was hit by a car while running in Cambridgeshire, England, said Chamberlain's lawyer, Gary Lincenberg.
Associated Press writers Stellacci and Rosa reported from Porticello, Winfield from Rome. AP writers Eric Tucker in Washington and Danica Kirka and Kelvin Chan in London contributed to this report.

For Sale: Recently Refit Westport 112

“Yacht design can be a tricky thing, especially if a brand has been successful with a style it calls its own,” Yachting previously wrote. “Since 1964, Westport has been catering to an American clientele whose tastes lean more toward the traditional than most European yacht owners. Think homey, warm and unapologetically conservative at a time when European interior design has trended contemporary, minimalist and avant-garde.”
The Westport 112 has long been the builder’s most popular model, with 65 hulls launched from its Washington state shipyards since 1994.”
Worth Avenue Yachts has Natural 9 , a 2008 Westport 112, listed for $6.15 million. The 112-foot motoryacht underwent a refit in 2021 and has gotten a number of upgrades over the years.
“ Natural 9 exudes a modern ambiance with its light and airy color palette,” Worth Avenue Yachts says. “It presents an exceptionally crisp, clean, and elegantly appointed vessel.”
Stepping into the salon guests will notice the cherry wood interior joinery and waist-to-ceiling windows flooding the space with natural light. The formal dining area forward features a veneered table base with lacquer and a three-quarter-inch oval tempered-glass top that accommodates eight guests.
Past the forward bulkhead is the main deck country galley which features a U-shaped granite countertop with a peninsula bar that backs up to a U-shaped dinette and inlay cherry cabinets.
The galley has an array of meal-prep amenities, including:
- Stainless Kohler extra deep double sink with Grohe faucets
- SubZero stainless steel refrigerator
- Dacor five-burner touch top cooktop
- KitchenAide 30-inch convection oven
- Sharp microwave/vent hood
- Krusher trash compactor
- Fisher Paykel two-drawer dishwasher
The sense of luxury on board Natural 9 carries throughout, with spaces like a guest foyer adorned with an overhead bronze mirror and cherry trim, marble flooring and a cherry cabinet console with a marble top.
Belowdecks, the four-stateroom layout can sleep up to eight. Amidships, the master stateroom has a California king berth, a Samsung flat-screen TV and an en suite head. The forepeak VIP stateroom has a centerline queen berth with desk.
When it’s time to catch some sun guests can head to the foredeck, where they will have their choice of the bow sun lounge forward or twin chaise-style lounge pads aft.
The after section of the flybridge is for the 15-foot AB tender stowage, which includes the davit. Forward, open space can support loose furniture while an L-shaped settee, fixed table and hot tub sit amidships. Under the hardtop, which has a new three-sided EZ2CY enclosure, a four-stool bar is to port.
Twin 2,000 hp MTU 16V2000 diesels give Natural 9 a 24-knot top hop and a 21-knot cruise speed. Slowing to a 12-knot cruise gives the 112 a 2,600-plus-nautical-mile range.
Some other notable features on board Natural 9 include:
- Two 65 kW Northern Lights generators
- KVH HD7 (2013)
- Three Nauticomp monitors in pilothouse; some screens are interchangeable
- Two Furuno FAR2117 radars with 18-inch LCD display
- Furuno depth sounder with 15” LCD monitor FCV1200L
- Nobeltec Times Zero navigation/electronic chart system with 21-inch LCD display
- Three Icom M602 VHF radios
- Icom M604 VHF radio
- Simrad AP50 autopilot with AP26
- NAIAD Multisea 2000 stabilizers
Where is Natural 9 located? The yacht is currently lying in Palm Beach, Florida.

Sicily prosecutors open manslaughter probe after yacht sinking.

Termini Imerese, Italy: Sicilian prosecutors said Saturday they were investigating potential crimes of negligent shipwreck and manslaughter after a superyacht sank killing seven people, including UK tech tycoon Mike Lynch.
Prosecutors stressed the investigation was at an early stage following the sinking of the British-flagged sailing boat Bayesian off the north of the Italian island in a storm early Monday.
"The Public Prosecutor's Office of Termini Imerese has registered a file with the state against unknown persons, hypothesising the crimes of negligent shipwreck and multiple negligent manslaughter," state prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio told reporters.
But he cautioned that with last body -- of Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah -- having only been recovered on Friday, the probe was at an early stage.
"We are only in the initial phase of the investigations... At this stage, precisely because the investigation could develop in any way, we are absolutely not ruling anything out," he said.
Lynch, 59, had invited friends and family onto the boat to celebrate his recent acquittal in a massive US fraud case.
But the 56-metre (185-foot) yacht was struck by a waterspout -- like a mini-tornado -- before dawn on Monday as it was anchored off Porticello, near Palermo.
Fifteen people were rescued and the body of one man, confirmed Saturday as the yacht's cook, was found shortly afterwards.
A major search operation including specialist divers subsequently identified the bodies of four of Lynch's friends on Wednesday, then Lynch himself on Thursday.
The businessman had been acquitted on all charges in a San Francisco court in June after he was accused of an $11 billion fraud linked to the sale of his software firm Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard.
