Ticketed Bay Cruise

Our ticketed San Diego Bay cruises take place Wednesday-Sunday at 11 am, 2:30 pm, and 6 pm. Each bay cruise is 2.5 hours in duration and will take you through San Diego Bay to see all the major monuments such as the Coronado Bridge, USS Midway, Seaport Village, Cabrillo National Monument, and more!  On this 2.5 hour excursion, you will enjoy music from our professional sound system, custom cocktails, local tap beer, wine, and prosecco poured by our welcoming bartenders. All drinks are available for purchase. 

Alana’s private yacht rental is perfect for groups of up to 35 guests. Great for epic birthday bashes, corporate events, bachelorette/bachelor parties, and special occasions! Every private yacht rental includes a captain, crew, and bartender. Alana is equipped with a liquor-licensed fully stocked bar serving a variety of drinks for purchase. Enjoy 2 decks for optimum comfort, 2 below-deck modern bathrooms, seating surrounding the boat, state-of-the-art entertainment, and safety equipment. Once booked with us an event coordinator will reach to help plan all the details of your charter!

What's included on the Ticketed Bay Cruise & Private Yacht Rentals?

Alana will take you on a cruise through San Diego Bay. On Alana, you will have a captain, crew, and bartender assisting you along your journey. Expect great music, amazing cocktails and epic views of the bay!

Can we bring food?

Yes! Guests aboard Alana may bring their own snacks! If you are looking to have more than just a personal snack, we offer catering options on our private charters!

Can we bring our own alcohol?

Alana is a liquor-licensed vessel, which means there are no outside beverages permitted onboard.

Do we need to fill out a waiver?

Yes, all guests that board Alana must have a signed waiver. Once your group books, the person who booked the charter will get a custom link to fill out the waiver. Please use that specific link, as it ties your waiver to your group. If you are at our location and are unable to scan the QR code, you can use THIS LINK to complete your waiver. What is your cancellation policy?

Private yacht rental cancellation policy:.

Alana Yacht Rental requires all cancellations be made 14 days prior to the scheduled departure time to receive a full refund. Cancellations within 14 days of the charter will forfeit their deposit. Any cancellations made within 72 hours before the charter will forfeit the full amount of the contracted services and are non-refundable.

Ticketed Cruise Cancellation Policy:

You must contact us more than 24 hours before your charter time to cancel your ticket and recieve a full refund. If you cancel within 24 hours you will be charged a 20% cancellation fee but have the option to reschedule to a new day at no additional cost. Alana may cancel ticketed charters anytime for any reason for which our customers will receive a full refund.

Special Event Cancellation Policy:

For special or holiday ticketed events, our cancellation policy requires a 72 hour notice. You may receive a full refund if you cancel at least 72 hours before the departure time. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 72 hours of the event start time. You have the option to reschedule to a regular ticketed charter but please note we cannot refund the price difference from the special event when rebooking.

Christened in 1934

The Cloudia is a beautifully restored, rare example of a classic Norwegian double ended ketch. Inspired by the original designs of famed naval architect Colin Archer (1832-1921), from Larvik, Norway, the Cloudia is a Listerskøyte. The top-sail ketch is notable for durability and safety. Archer’s shipyard designed and constructed the famed  Fram,  which participated in a number of expeditions to the North Pole and later supported Roald Amundsen’s historic first expedition to the South Pole.

Archer’s designs became popular for commercial use and in the pleasure sailing market during the 20th Century, and remain so to this day. 

Welcome to SailCloudia

The Cloudia is rigged as a topsail ketch in the British or American style, which means there are 2 two-piece masts which allow the Cloudia to carry more sail than a traditional Norwegian rig with shorter single masts. The Cloudia’s main mast is 85 feet high including the top-jack.

Many different woods were used to craft the ship, including Norwegian white oak, sapele hardwood, Douglas fir, Alaskan yellow cedar, and Ipe Brazilian hardwood. 

The pilot house is fully equipped with modern maritime electronics, including state of the art radar and navigation systems.

On days with favorable weather conditions, the large sliding canvas roof and two sliding doors can be opened to let the elements in, creating an open and airy cabin space on this San Diego boat rental.

Epic Add-Ons

Your Aquata rental does NOT include a captain. You must choose your captain during the booking process. The captain’s fee of $50/hr is paid directly to the captain upon arrival at the dock.

How big is Aquata and what's the interior like?

Aquata is a 2022 37ft Axopar Cross-Cabin Cruiser. There are plenty of sociable seating areas with a table on the foredeck, along with a spacious sun-deck. Aquata has a minimum rental time of 2 hours. We recommend renting for 3-4 hours to get the most out of your experience!

Aquata allows our customers to choose the route that they’d like to take. Explore the San Diego Bay passing by iconic landmarks, relax in one of the many scenic coves while enjoying the wildlife, or speed out to the pacific ocean for a gorgeous view of the California coastline. With enough time you can do it all, the possibilities are endless!

What will we see during the charter?

During your private yacht rental, expect to see an array of gorgeous scenery and historic landmarks. Some of our favorites include the Coronado Bridge, USS Midway, Star of India, Sunset Cliffs, La Jolla Cove, Hotel Del Coronado, Point Loma Lighthouse and so many more! With a little luck you could see dolphins, sea lions and whales!

What do we need to bring?

Aquata Charters allows you to bring your own food and drinks (this includes alcohol).  Be sure to bring food that is easily accessible and easy to clean up! Please do not bring any red wine aboard, or glass cups. All liquids contained in glass will be put into plastic cups. Feel free to bring towels, sunscreen, and a big smile!

This was a spur of the moment last minute booking and Zach was super easy and friendly to work with! My group had the BEST time! They loaded all our stuff up for us to get to the boat, inflated our floaties, and provided genuine hospitality the whole time. (Even took drone shots of us and sent them after). We felt comfortable from the beginning to the end, and got to catch some amazing sunset views. Couldn’t recommend enough!

Great boat for my team of 12 people. We had a great time. Captain Lou took great care of us. We enjoyed our cruise around Mission Bay and stopped for some swimming and SUP. Water slide on the boat is great. With the upper deck area it didn’t feel cramped with 12 people. Ryan was super flexible for our scheduling requests and needs. Will book again!

Our day trip with a group of ten 13-year-old girls was a blast, due to the easy going and knowledgeable Lou. He navigated us to the warmest, safest spot for the girls and took care of all of the details for us (setting out and pulling equipment back in). FYI The boat we received was similar, but not the same boat pictured.

Jeff was great and very responsive with communication. His boat was so fun to be on as well as super comfortable and clean! Ralph was our driver and he was great. Let us load up a bit early so we could depart right as our time began. We went for my son’s 13th birthday and had a great time! Highly recommend!!!

Booking a sunset boat trip with Jeff is a MUST! This was the highlight of my friend’s bachelorette weekend. Jeff was super friendly and a fun guide around Mission Bay. The boat was beautifully kept & spacious for our party of 11. We played music, had snacks, drank, and even saw the SeaWorld fireworks at 9. We could’ve gotten into the water but it was a bit chilly. We really couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

I highly recommend Jeff and his boat for all of your yacht needs! He was fantastic and prompt in communication leading up to the outing so I felt fully prepared for the day. I had a 9 person group for a bachelor party and we had truly the best time. Jeff made a great timing recommendation (11-3) and we swam, tanned, ate, and drank. The views were gorgeous and the water was cold but refreshing. Jeff was a lovely host and made everything really easy and seamless.

This class is the perfect introduction to sailing. Through classroom instruction and on-the-water practice you will learn how to skipper your own single-handed Sabot sailboat. Plenty of practice time will give you confidence and a solid foundation in sailing to prepare you for sailing larger, more advanced boats.  

What Will I Learn?

By the end of this class someone with no prior sailing experience will be able to safely and confidently sail a small boat in protected waters without instructor supervision. Topics covered include:

• Sailing Terminology
• How sails work
• Points of sail
• Upwind Sailing
• Navigation rules

Topics are introduced in the classroom and then practiced on Mission Bay in a Sabot dinghy, the classic Southern California learn-to-sail boat. Upon completion of the class you will be qualified to rent the Sabot on your own so you will be able to keep sailing and practicing your skills after the class ends. 

Is this the right class for me?

Basic Sailing is one of two entry-level classes offered at MBAC, the other option for beginners being Basic Keelboat Level 1 . Basic Sailing is the right choice if you want the opportunity to sail a boat on your own and want to become eligible to rent sailboats from MBAC . Basic Keelboat Level 1 is a better choice if you hope to sail larger boats in the future or are interested in obtaining a US Sailing Basic Keelboat Sailing certification . 

Additionally, Basic Keelboat Level 1 may be a better option for students with limited mobility as the keelboat used in that class does not demand as much agility as the Sabot used in Basic Sailing. Another option is to book a private lesson on one of our larger sailboats like the 14-foot RS Quest or 16-foot Hobie Getaway. 

If you have some sailing experience but have never taken a formal sailing class, we suggest starting with Basic Sailing or Basic Keelboat Level 1 . Our experience has shown that people who learn to sail informally often have gaps in their knowledge that are best addressed by completing an entry-level class.

Requirements

• Basic Sailing is an entry-level class with no required prerequisites or prior experience.
• This class is open to all participants aged 14 and up.
• A general liability waiver is required to participate. Anyone under 18 must have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.
• Participants must acknowledge that they are water safe (able to swim 50 meters and comfortably tread water).

How to Prepare

Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers. The temperature can feel much cooler than expected once you are on the water, so it is a good idea to bring a jacket, even on warm days. We suggest comfortable closed-toed shoes. Sunglasses and a hat are highly recommended. Lifejackets are provided.

It is unlikely that you will end up in the water while sailing during this class, but it is possible, so we recommend wearing clothes that can get wet. It is likely that you will get a little bit wet from small splashes, handling wet lines, etc. anytime you go on a boat. 

Bring sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and snacks or lunch (for all-day classes). MBAC has a water bottle refilling station and there are a number of restaurants nearby, but keep in mind that food and drink are not available for purchase at MBAC.

What's Next?

Upon successful completion of Basic Sailing you will be qualified to rent Sabots at MBAC and will be ready for  Advanced Sailing .

We had a wonderful experience with Captain Bri for the sunset cruise! Weather was amazing and the boat was beautiful and clean. The water was smooth and calm. We brought our own drinks that we picked up from the store, they also had some water if we needed. Captain Bri was knowledgable and so nice. They sent clear information about where to meet beforehand and everything was on time. Definitely worth it!

Captain Nick was charming and very knowledgeable! We had no idea how important San Diego was as a national/ international port! The boat was spotless, wine and chocolate was plentiful and the sunset was spectacular. We would highly recommend this adventure.

San diego bayfair returns to mission bay for 60th year.

The three-day, family-friendly beach festival runs from Sept. 13 to 15. It has been hailed as the perfect way to end the summer for thousands in Southern California.

Stretching from Fiesta Island to Crown Point Park and East Vacation Island, in addition to powerboat racing, attendees can enjoy beach-based family entertainment, including extreme aquatic sports, live music, a car show, a cornhole tournament, beer gardens and local food vendors.

“This year’s event will be a larger, diverse festival. There will be a variety of events and activities to keep everyone entertained,” said spokesman Gregg Mansfield. “We really look forward to everyone having a good time and enjoying Mission Bay.”

This year’s event marks the return of H1 Unlimited Hydroplane racing, the top-tier powerboat series in the country, as well as Grand Prix World piston boats and American Power Boat Association limited classes.

Once known as “thunderboats” because of the thundering noise of their post-WWII engines in the 1960s and ‘70s, unlimited hydroplane races were first held on Mission Bay in 1964.

“This year they will be competing for the 119th Gold Cup, the oldest active trophy in motorsports,” Mansfield said.

Unlimited hydroplane driver J. Michael Kelly, who won Bayfair in 2019 and 2021, said it is one of his favorite race courses.

“Not only (is it) a very fast race course that I’ve had success on, but also a beautiful place to visit,” Kelly said. “It’s like a mini-vacation before and after a serious weekend of racing on Mission Bay.

“I’ve always looked at the season ending race to reward my teammates after a long, hard-fought racing season,” he added.

The Unlimited hydroplanes can reach speeds of nearly 200 mph, and produce “rooster tails” — 60-foot-tall, 300-foot-long walls of water behind them.

Grand Prix hydroplane racing also takes place at the event. The GP boats feature supercharged big-block V8 piston engines, and routinely attain speeds in excess of 170 miles per hour.

“The APBA are also really fast and really loud; these are the smaller runabouts that most people would own,” Mansfield said.

There is always action happening on the water. Friday is generally a light shake out day with some racing, with the majority of the action on Saturday and Sunday.

“Saturday is the busiest day with all the racing, while all the groups race for their championships on Sunday,” he said.

Race times are generally 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Extreme sport hydro-games also draw large crowds at the festival.

“The hydro games are youth-oriented water sports, where the participants use water powered jetpacks to do aerial acrobatics and tricks — it attracts an X Games type crowd,” Mansfield said.

Another attraction will be water rescue demonstrations by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The inaugural cornhole tournament on Sept. 14 is expected to draw crowds ($40 per team, register at southerncaliforniacornhole.com), as is the car show.

“We’re working with Soliva Car Club on Saturday, and we expect 100 lowrider classic cars to be on Crown Point. Although most of the cars are San Diego-based, some will be coming from as far away as Los Angeles and Phoenix,” Mansfield said.

Mansfield said the music schedule and some of the events are still being finalized.

More than 50 vendors, from food to merchandise, will be scattered among the three islands for the event.

The annual festival attracts more than 70,000 regional and national visitors. It was canceled last year, after losing its longtime title sponsor.

This year’s Bayfair is supported by the San Diego Tourism Marketing District and All Access Services.

The largest man-made aquatic park in the United States, Mission Bay was created by a massive dredging project beginning in 1958. East Vacation Island and Fiesta Island were created by the project, and a race course created between the two.

The shorelines were designed with curves to accommodate a 2.5-mile oval race course and beaches were engineered with a gentle slope to dissipate waves from recreational boats and hydroplanes.

“With San Diego Bayfair celebrating our 60th year as an organization, we are working on making 2024 San Diego Bayfair the best event yet,” said Bob Davies, race director. “We couldn’t be more excited for our fans and competitors to join us.”

Bayfair is the one time each year when RV owners can rent a space for the weekend on Vacation Isle East. Overnight spots are also available on Fiesta Island and Crown Point.

“Having the RVs on-site has always been a big tradition — people have family reunions, meet their friends and just really enjoy it as part of the event,” Mansfield said.
