Welcome to the Parker & Seal Sailing Association (PSSA)

The Calendar of events for 2024 is now on the website. Some events still need organisers so if you can help please contact the committee.

As we have to book marinas and restaurants in advance, please see the rally details for the date to register /enrol for the rally.   This also helps the organiser manage the attendees with information. Remember you must be logged on to enrol

As you will have now been on your sailing adventures for the season, don't forget to submit you photos for the 2024/2025 Photo competition, Theme ' Distant shores '

Next events

The visit to Fareham SMBC (sailing & motor boat club) is actually on,  so long as Covid regulations do not change.  The plan is to have a ‘bring your own grub’ BBQ as before.  Fareham will provide the BBQ and Carol will do the salads and hot potatoes; you bring meat, fish or whatever you want to cook.  The additional attraction this year, by popular request, will be a ‘wine whist’. Please bring a bottle of wine per couple if you wish to partake.  If possible, bring a selection of red, rosé or white but only one will be used.  Last time we ended up with nearly all red wine so it would be good to have a variety.  Please know the price you paid for the wine.

It is a Bank Holiday weekend so avoid the traffic by coming by boat but if the weather is foul or for other reasons, please do not hesitate to come by car.

Mooring and showers are free at Fareham so long as you spend enough over the bar.  Please note the bar is card only .  Mooring is available on the club pontoon but please keep the yellow section, the north end, free for club members.  Alternative moorings will be available at the Salterns pontoons downstream.

Saturday: HW Portsmouth  16.15  (4.4m),  LW 21.16  (1.5m)

Bar will open (c/o Nondikass) from 5.00 to 7.00pm for

drinks on the balcony whilst BBQ cooking.

Sunday:   HW Portsmouth 04.21  (4.1m),  LW  09.30  (1.6m)

                HW Portsmouth 16.47  (4.2m)

Notes:     If approaching from the west,

tide changes at Gilkicker 2 hours + before HW.

Allow 45 mins  to 1 hour for Fareham to/from harbour entrance.

Tides are running into neaps and there should be sufficient

water for lift-keelers better than 2 hours either side of low

                water.

Please contact Phil & Carol (OC, Macoma) if you are intending to come so numbers for berths and catering can be estimated.

The PSSA is the class association for Parker and Seal lift keel yachts and other types of shallow draft yachts. As an active, friendly club with almost 350 members, it organises rallies, social events and an annual race around the Isle of Wight. Seals and Parkers are British-built yachts, ranging in length from 21' to 33', mostly with lifting keels. They started with the Seal 22 in 1970, built by John Baker, and followed by the Seal 28 and Super Seal 26. In 1981, Bill Parker took over the range and added the Parker 21, Parker 27 and Parker 31. These then evolved into a high-quality range of cruiser-racers built by Parker Lift-Keel Yachts - the trailable Parker 235, the Parker 285 and the Parker 335. In 2009, Parker Lift-Keel yachts ceased trading.

Fareham Sailing and Motor Boat Club

Founded Year

Fareham Sailing & Motor Boat Club was founded in 1850 as a rowing club and has evolved over the years into a family-friendly club with a mix of cruising, racing and social members. The club has an active fleet of small luggers and these can be seen racing on Thursday evenings and on week-ends. The Clubhouse is a characterfull listed building with an interesting history dating back to Napoleonic times when it was used as a prison hospital. In common with most sailing clubs FSMBC has a thriving bar which is open to its members, their guests and visiting yacht crew.

Chippendale Centenary: Calling all boats built by Jack Chippendale

fareham sailing and motorboat club newsletter

To mark the 100 th  anniversary of the birth of renowned master boatbuilder Jack Chippendale, Fareham Sailing & Motor Boat Club is hosting a one day, three race handicap event and celebration on Saturday 11 th  May 2024, to honour Jack’s life and work.

Renowned for building the finest racing dinghies, Jack and his company Chippendale Boats in Fareham were at the forefront of wooden boatbuilding in the 1950s and 1960s, building National 12s, Merlin Rockets, Cadets, Flying 15s, Fireballs and Folkboats, all to meticulously high standards. Later, Jack established Chippendale Craft in Norfolk, making stitch-and-tape boat kits and running short boatbuilding courses.

Passionate about training, Jack was instrumental in setting up the Wooden Boatbuilders’ Trade Association and developing the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis. In 2010, he was appointed MBE for his services to boatbuilding.

The centenary event is open to all Chippendale built boats and is free to enter, including evening entertainment at the club and a chance to meet some of the people who built the dinghies at the Chippendale Boats Fareham yard.
